    My red ear slider has pretty bad shell rot. Her tank is clean and our filter is good and was recommended by the vet. Her water is changed out every 7-10 days. She refuses to bask unless dry docked. Do you know why a turtle would refuse to bask and how to encourage them to do so?

    • @Snakue
      @Snakue 8 месяцев назад +1

      My turtle refuses to bask on his rock but, he climbs out of his pond then goes for a 30-1 hour walk then goes back. I honestly thing your turtle needs more sunlight / heat

    My RES turtle shell be drying out, I believe it's the water & not shell rot, because it dries my skin out, SMH. I use the Repto guard turtle conditioner things when I change the water & I wipe her shell off in the old water before putting her in the clean water. And I have that turtle VitaShell cream I use when she's on the floor in her shelter box. I live in Detroit, Michigan so she can only take her out for sun when it's nice out. And I've learned she doesn't like light, LOL. She likes darkness. When I let her run around she heads for the dark places, LOL. When she's sleeping at night & I turn the light on & leave it on, on purpose she starts splashing in the water for me to turn it off. She likes natural daylight🌞. She's preparing for her hibernation season since it's getting cold here in Michigan. She's 11 years old now. I take good care of her. I love your videos. You seen the pics I sent you!! ☺☺🐢🐢

    Hi Dan, I have a African sideneck that has a flexible plastron high up towards her neck (that first section of shell) She's in a new area- aquarium & she won't bask for some reason. There doesn't seem to be any rot areas just the softness of that part. I've been taking her out of water, in a bucket with small towel & under UVB light & heat lamp (3-4 hrs) & over night just in bucket. Can you give me any other ideas or am I doing the right thing? Thank you so much

      With my turtle I just kept him warm depending on what turtle you have they need a specific water temperature and my turtle doesn’t really like water so he spends most of his time on my bed and goes under my blanket he usually stays there for a few hours and sleeps but it actually helps him a lot his shell rot started healing faster that way

      Well heres my shell care routine for my turtle:
      -Gentle Brushing with mild soap monthly
      -Adding antifungal / bacterial fish medicine( such as methylene blue) to the water
      -Basking
      -calcium foods like (snails, shrimp)

    What product did you use on Bean?
    I know you recommended Betadine for ‘shell rot’. Is this what you used on Bean as well?
    Sunlight and being in the pond helped Bean (I do not have a pond, and it is pretty cold during the fall/winter/early spring where I live) as well as some sort of anti fungal cream...but what exactly did you use and how long did it take for Bean’s shell to return to the pretty, vibrant colors?
    My turtle has gone through the same thing. Her shell is all light and ‘garbage’ looking.
    Looking for a Bean transformation/miracle.
