Michael Schenker(Guitar)
Gary Barden(Rhythm Guitar)
Chris Glen(Bass)
Paul Raymond(Keyboards/Rhythm Guitar/B.Vocals)
Cozy Powell (Drums) [RIP]
Michael Schenker, the most underrated lead guitarist the last 4 decades bar none. He is and always will be a musician's musician.
Hi Angelo, some interesting guitar players have said Michael was an influence: Kirk Hammett, Dave Mustaine, Dave Meniketti, Rory Gallagher mentioned him, Slash loves him, Warren DeMartini & George Lynch were influenced by him, Billy Corgan ...John Norum, Yngwie Malmsteen tipped their hat to him. Not bad, eh ?!
@@mc5869Absolutely agree,Michael Schenker is not underrated by true hardock and heavy metal musicians and fans ,but by mainstream massmedia bulshiters!!!!!!!
underrated???????????????????????????
I saw him at a club in vancouver 5 years ago he had all 3 singers from the 5 albums..needless to say it was most entertaining..no more then 200 people and i got my ticket for 20 ducks..sweet deal..saw the black crows for 40 buks 3 weeks later ...then 2 months later mr biff bifford came saxen shenker n the crows 100 buk..alchohol 300
"Underrated" LMAO. You contradict yourself. How could he be a "musician's musician" and be underrated at the same time? You are either fantasizing that you are in possession of some secret knowledge and special insight the rest of the world lacks, or you haven't got a clue what the word "underrated" means.
It's not just as if Schenker is a great guitar player (maybe the greatest guitar player in rock/metal history), he's a phenomenal composer/songwriter as well. This is what sets him apart from greatly skilled guitar players, who couldn't write more than 2 captivating solos in their life, and what puts him at the level of a guy like Ritchie Blackmore. In fact, I would also say Schenker is one of the greatest composers/songwriters in rock/metal history. I feel as captivated while listening to Into The Arena, Lost Horizons, On And On, and Captain Nemo as I do when listening to great classical music.
I agree with you & He plays with 3 fingers 95 % of the time , my number #1 for me & I heard 98 % of most of the Guitarists in different music styles !
oooh I want your drug dealer's name.....
@@victorhanson1475 Look in the mirror. There he is.
何回も何回も見たけど見飽きない。やっぱりマイケルはすごいな~
michael schenkar is who inspired me to play guitar
"Michael Schenker is truly a guitar virtuoso, and this performance is a testament to his unparalleled skills and musical genius. From his early days with the Scorpions to his time with UFO and then forming the Michael Schenker Group (MSG), Schenker has left an indelible mark on the world of rock and metal. His unique style, characterized by melodic solos and innovative riffs, has inspired countless guitarists around the world. Watching him perform 'Into the Arena' live in 1981 brings back so many memories of the golden era of rock. Kudos to the entire band for such an electrifying performance, and a special shoutout to Cozy Powell, whose drumming legacy will forever remain unmatched. Rock on, Schenker! 🎸🤘

胸が熱くなります‼️
Schenker was, and still is, absolutely brilliant - instantly recognisable!
RIP Cozy Powell and Paul Raymond.....
素晴らしいです。カッコいいです。❤️🔥🙏
🥲🥲🥲😿
Michael is probably the most underrated rock guitarist ever. He's an absolute beast. Blowing the doors off most his contemporaries.
"Underrated" LMFAO. Rock's greatest players cite him as an influence. You either know nothing about the world of rock guitar, or you're confused as to the meaning of the word "underrated."
Who's the bassist? He's kicking ass.
That's Chris Glenn from the Alex Harvey Band ! @@reggaefan2700
one of the greatest heavy metal instrumentals
俺の青春だぜ!マイケル最高だぜ。彼が居なければここまでギターにのめり込む事は無かったかもね!
Best first and second finger stretch and trills still with us, Gary Moore had the same RIP Gary, no one else close
It's cool that you bring this up. The first few times that I saw him. I couldn't get over how much real estate he could cover with 3 fingers. Definitely the king of his kind.
For me, this era of MSG is hard rock at it's best! Is their any band Cozy Powell doesn't make WAY better? What a great drummer. And this era of Schenker is my favorite. His playing, writing, and his cool factor, are at his all time career high.
My youth! Rainbow, MSG, Sabbath with Dio and Ozzy with Randy/Jake e lee/Don Airey was what kept me in my Room toll mid 80s. After that it was pretty much over!
Possibly Randy Castillo could have been dangerous for Cozy Powell....
Whitesnake maybe? Did he improve them compare to Iain paice, and did Ansley Dunbar improve on cozy? Also Sabbath? Not hating on cozy I think he's amazing. Rainbow and msg he definitely improved
Cozy's playing here is below par. If you compare it to Simon Phillips brilliant performance on the original studioversion.
Schenker is a true legend.
But hardly ever mentioned - shame
Richard Bird He deserves more.
Now I know Dave didn't lie when he says he was inspired by Michael
Listen to UFO‘s Stranger in the night and you get the full dose of MS and his art on guitar
EVERYONE wanted Schenker in the late 70's. That included The Ro.ling Stones, Aerosmith and Ozzy Osbourne.
Michael Schenker - one of the best guitarists in Rock of all time, monster musician with the Gibson Flying-V
I will never forget the first time I heard about MSG. I was just starting to really get into music, and it was a very exciting time. I started buying Metal magazines like Circus and Hit Parader. I was reading a mag and there was an ad for MSG's 2nd album, the logo with the V and red MSG was so cool I ran out and bought it. I have been a huge fan ever since.
¡Toma ya!
平成生まれの私ですが本当にカッコいい曲。日本のゲーム音楽にも影響与えたグループだと思う
I love that slightly melancholic tone Schenker has, it makes him unique amongst heavy rock guitarists. It's that trademark sound that raises him above the pack, up there with Blackmore and Uli Jon Roth
What that is, he is using minor scales, some arpeggios, mixing that in with blues scale, major. He does not really use effects pedals much, Just a wah pedal and a wall of amps, most of the time. He never mindlessly shreds, he does not ever sound like boring shred olympics, like some guys do.
The German Soul....
Cozy Powell was a great drummer - maybe one of the best ever
+James Raymond Sanduski Too true.
first time i see a metal drummer play traditional style .. for those jazzy rolls
I Agree
Yes - if you think about it, he was always in demand and played with some of the best outfits on the planet, all of whom were happy to have him in their lineups. RIP Mr Powell.
Rami Bahrani listen Megadeths gar samuelsons drum tracks
Michael Schenker is one of those unique players that you can immediately tell who it is. Many have tried, but none will ever sound like him.
My eternal guitar hero. His melody have the element of courage and sorrow.
I like very much. Much respect from Japan.
My fave flying v guitarist.. Michael Schenker and Randy Rhoads.. 🤘🏻
Wolf Hoffmann!!
Смотрю не первый раз-- самый талантливый, самый прекрасный, лучший из лучших!! Люблю его! ❤
Schenker is too Perfect 🤘
What a great band this was Chris Glenn was from the Alex Harvey band who never made it big in the U.S. but we’re a great Scottish band and there guitar player was great and played with Nazerath after Alex Harvey band. But just like this band they were all good musicians
What a piece, powerhouse stuff!
マイケルのヘッド折れする前のV、この映像で初めて見ました。
この時分のマイケルは自分にとって憧れの存在でした(今もですけど)。
I like how Paul Raymond introduces a legend.- "On the drums, the man behind The Jeff Beck Group, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and now we got him: COZY POWELL!".
This singer is fantastic, watch the whole show, these guys are in their 20's
I love this song. Michael Schenker is definitely one of the most under-rated guitarists ever. Both Guitar World and Rolling Stone magazines left him out of their top 100 guitarists of all time, which goes to show you their lack of credibility when it comes to discussing guitar.
When Cozy Powell passed away, I was really absent-minded. The unique way of hitting his drums impressed him. I was a genius. He will be reborn and become a genius drummer. 💖☺
What the fuck?
@@cozycooke2040hahahahaha!
How he died was indeed very tragic.
How the hell can anyone even do that? Amazing guitar.
Why haven´t I heard of this?? I normaly listen to this kind of music, but never heard of the Michael Schenker group!!!??? Were have I BEEN??????!!!!! This is Epic!
Cozy Powell is a great great drumer much endurance and he played in 3 of my favorite bands .
Remember digging this one in 85'...
That was a piece of history...
Best guitarist ever!! I've had the honor to meet him twice!!! He is such a humble and wonderful man!!!! "The Max-Ax" Man!!!!! Michael Schenker!!!
It's "The Mad Ax Man" not Max Ax Man.
Michael schenker made real heavy sound and so beautiful melody.
I saw this tour in Bristol. Then the tour for the second album. Still got them and the live album that followed. Brilliant.
My favourite Michael piece. I want to play this properly its fantastic.
A stellar guitarist with a stellar band supporting him. Chris Glen and the late Cozy Powell were an amazing rhythm section.
You are so right
Rockpalast WDR TV, Germany Hamburg early 1981.Gladly available on CD and DVD. I have it both. Legendary phenomenal Concert.Rip Cozy Powell and Paul Raymond🙏

He is the reason I started playing guitar back in 1983, him and Metallica’s first album came out then as did Slayers and guitarist were everywhere you turn your head, it was an incredible time, heavy metal was literally main stream around then and it was awesome to be a teenager who loved guitar. From my parents generation of music and then mine it was great. Micheal Schenker has to be the most gifted guitarist in History and that song proves it, it is identical to the album so he must construct these solos cuz he knows them by heart, I only wish I can play close to what he does one day as I’m trying like hell but the fast stuff is so tuff😡 I truly love this guys playing 🤟🏻
There just aren't enough words in the English language to describe how great MICHAEL SCHENKER is!
RIP COZY POWELL and PAUL RAYMOND!🤘✌️👍 We'll Not See Their Like Again!!Unfortunately to our Eternal Sorrow and Regrets!😢🤘✌️👍🤙
What a line-up ... Paul Raymond & Cozy Powell RIP
Looks like Paul stole Pete Way's pants!!!🤣🤣🤣😃😃
Here's An Underrated Man.
As A Guitarist And A Musician..
He Deserves A More Fair Evaluation..
His Position Is Not Here.
He Needs To Be Go Up A Lot.
No Matter What Anyone Says,
It's Always The Best For Me.
I agree with you 100 % plus !
2018, Michael Schenker, one of the most underrated, underappreciated, and oft-ignored guitarists from the era that spanned the 70's right through until today.
I have never seen him on the top 100, let alone top 200 best guitarists of all-time.
Where would I place him? I'm not sure but he would be surrounded by names like Carlos Santana, Slowhand Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, and even Mark Knopfler.
Yes...he IS that fucking good.
Naw, he's waaay better than those fools. He is in the Satriani, Lifeson, Rhoads, Demartini, Petrucci level.
@@RogueReplicant Michael Schenker is a real innovator, so he was way ahead of her time.
Schenker was quite influential to a lot of metal and hard rock players growing up at the time...to me he was a European version of Randy Rhoads.
The Albert Einstein Of All Guitar.. Let Me End The Debate... Greatest Who Ever Lived !!!
Michael is, and always will be the IDOL, inspiration, and Virtuoso, Guitar Hero for all the others we hold in Reverence Today like Ed Van Halen,Randy Rhoades,Joe Satriani, Steve Vai,Yngwie Malmsteen, and all the others in their Electric Glory! Just as he was the successor of the legacy of Beck, Clapton, Page, Blackmore,Trower and of course""THE G.O.A.T. JAMES MARSHALL HENDRIX! LONG LIVE ROCK and ROLL!
Check out that vintage KSHE-95 t-shirt the bass player has on!! Real Rock Radio-St. Louis, MO. And how cute is Michael!! I saw him with UFO in the 80's, love that band!! Sherry from St. Louis says "Hi!"
if it was in the 80's it was Paul Chapman with UFO !
このフライングVに革ジャンとマイケルとギター🎸フレーズ、
かっこ良すぎる☺️
Geez, Schenker is the terminator on guitar. Can we also give some love to Glen for his bass playing?
R.I.P Paul & Cozy .....
マイケルシェンカーのギターとコージーパウエルのドラムの組み合わせは最強です👍
Simply pure music gem, amazing musicians! 80's Hard rock and heavy metal forever! Schenker is pure talent!!!!
Cheers from Italy
このメンツでのこの曲が最高です!
This makes me so happy
Perhaps it is JUST me....but does anyone else see the utter SIMPLICITY in Michael's playing (esp when U compare it to others in his class)...but there is MORE RAW emotion in it? What do you think...is it just me...or does anyone else see and hear what I do?
Agreed - raw emotion is right. Fantastic!!
What a brilliant rock instrumental - stands the test of time!
Great bass playing too. It really comes across in this live version.
Some ridiculous across-the-board mastery playing by every musician on that number. Especially Mr. Michael Schenker!
Some of the finest musicians in that line up boys and girls.
Two for sure. Michael and Cozy.
Schenker is one of the top 5 most underrated guitar gods of all time along with Alex Lifeson.
While Michael Schenker is most definitely under-rated, Alex Lifeson is not. Lifeson has received all manner of notoriety and accolades. Schenker on the other hand...who, IMHO is far more talented than Lifeson, has not.
@perryhvegholm2941 indeed.
Best Schenker line up👍
MICHAEL SCHENKER - Is one of the GREATEST!!
Uli Jon Roth is legend!!!!
He’s the king! We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!
Without a doubt,he's up there with EVH...Both of them got it all, iconic guitar, moves on stage, killer riffs, solo and most important, great songwriter!!! Timeless songs they are. I would even dare to say that the yankees didn't have the advantage to invente classical music but just blues ans that's about it...and they were blackman lol Hi from France :)
There is a little mustaine into his solo style.....
If you dont like this video screw you. Nobody can play like Mike can. He is by far one of the best guitar players in the world.
That guitar lick at 2:39 is AMAZING and complex and Schenker made it look so easy
The way this video was shot is genius. It gets right to the centre of the action at every turn, especially Michael's playing, and the angle of the camera on Cozy's drumming is a masterstroke!
I loved him in UFO and hated that he left but was extremely satisfied when he produced this! I can't wait to see him when he comes to my town in April....❤

I wish you would do a reaction video watching this!
What a beast on the axe 👏🏻
My head always explodes at the epicness of that last slow section. Especially on the album.
No one touches his melody. He transitions from explosiveness to sublime like no one else.
@@stevesalinas3019 spot on.
😂
👍
my favorite guitarist of all time...
Wonderful guitar playing...and don't forget the band behind mr Schenker .....awesome!
I agree with you!! :)

The whole thing just spews with talent. 🤘
Always loved this band. What a bad ass guitarist he is
Paul Raymond.R.I.P.
My all time favourite song from MSG. I was 13 years old, now 45. Love it
You couldn't make a movie about Michael's life because no producer or director would believe the script.
It would be a hell of a movie though.
What an incredible mix Schenker's guitar work and Cozy's drum work - just brilliant!
I will never forget the first time I heard the live at budokahn album💥🤯
One of the true greats.
People do have the ability to love each other and create greatness but for some reason it does not always happen
love how the cameraman stays focused on his hands.amazing those were the days.thanx.
He always sounds classical to me, he has that background, in training or listening.
This song is absolutely amazing!!! This performance is outstanding.
Great! I was fiveteen in 1981 and i was a big fan to MSG.
Michael Schenker the god of Guitar Rock!!!!!!! EXCELLENT !!!!!!!!! WoWWWWWW!!!!!!
The 1st time I saw MSG was in Stuttgart Germany 1982.
It was an all day festival & they rocked out !!!!
2020 and I'm still here \m/
And in 2024 plus Infinity!!!
michael schenker is one of the most famous guitarists
That's one badass introduction for the band. A perfect intro for a mind blowing performance.
Wow! Cozy Powell is fantastic! Rock On!
Saw this tour at The Ritz, NYC. Absolutely incredible!
Gary Barden (vocalist) plays rhythm guitar which is very rare, probably the only song & on this gig that he played, never saw him playing the rhythm guitar again!
This one of my fave riffs of all time! Michael Schenker bends strings to ultimate rhythm and solos beyond perfection!
I for 1 agree all the way with you, there will never be another Schenker ,ever!
Saw them at Hammersmith the night before this concert was recorded (missed out on Klause and Rudi coming on as special guests for this one - natch) . Still one of the best gigs I've ever been to.
I was there that night, incredible
This is a fun riff to play on guitar. Love that first record by MSG. Great bass player. I'd say he's the "find of the 80s" lol. Love Simon's drumming on the record, but man Cozy is a beast. Beautiful synth interlude from Paul.
Bravo❤. Michael. ❤...eres. Otro. Genio. De. Las 6. ❤ Cuerdas.❤
Used to love these. Pretty sure I saw them at the Liverpool Empire on this tour . Looking back now and watching him play reminds me of just how good Ritchie Blackmore was
So, sometimes when someone tells me something is good and I'd like it, I don't listen to it. Not because that person doesn't know my taste, but because I want to tuck it away and wait years to discover it. I've been into guitar players since I was 9 -- I turn 40 this year and have been hearing about Schenker for decades. Just now taking a listen...glad I tucked this one away so that I didn't burnout on it 25 years ago lol! He's pretty rad!
Now that you've discovered Schenker - you must MUST! hear 'Assault Attack'. Monster album ('Ulcer' is the mindblowing instrumental on that one). Phenomenal guitar playing.
Awesome! Total salute for posting this vid for the rest of us to enjoy!
Who the f*n hell in their RIGHT MIND would choose "todays" rock musicians over this stuff?!?!
Not.. even.. close.
~JSV
I saw MSG on this tour! Schenker wore that leathe, sleeves pulled upr, had the white Flying V and looked cool as fuck! He looked like Sting. It was either at Newcastle or Leeds. Brilliant gig.
