“You can do hard things” embodied so well here. Great job doing this, and even more special having done it together. Lifelong accomplishments with friends are all the more sweet! Thanks for the inspiration, guys!
This looks amazing. I had no idea that these foils are even capable of that amount of speed and endurance. I thought 1-2 miles and your exhausted. What an amazing adventure and achievement you guys had.
@@SirJustonian I lived on Maui for 10 years. Favorite spots Launiupoko on a south and S Turns on a north. Prior to that San Onofre, we would drive down from Redondo Beach CA. I live in AZ now so doubt I will be paddling out. You guys keep on trucking, look forward to seeing you guys tackle other amazing runs.
I'm an avid paddler and typically do 2 hours one way and 2.5 hours back, with a 10-15 minute rest in between. Four hours without a break is a long haul, especially with the constant pumping. For me, the challenge is the pins and needles and lack of foot movement, which eventually gets me on a paddleboard-but on a foil, there’s no room for error, or you’ll fall off! Well done, guys-impressive effort, even with a chase boat!
Congratulations! What an accomplishment! I live on Kauai and just learned to wing foil! What a great sport. Wish we would have known these boys were headed our way as we would have greeted them with leis and fresh tangelo juice!
This gives me a renewed faith for this generation. I've known Malae for a while and he's a solid human with a superhuman dad who's done an amazing job raising him. well done!!
Why would you have no hope for this generation? You have absolutely no control over what the next generation will aspire to. Literally no control whatsoever. You’re just seeing them and holding them to standards YOU yourself set. Which is totally worthless. A useless mental masturbation exercise. Maybe this generation isn’t the problem. Maybe it’s you.
@@haveaday1812 you have quite the ability to state the obvious, thank you for clarifying that for me. I am so fortunate that you took the time out of your busy schedule to educate me #blessed
Never underestimate the power and motivation of the "grooms" in this world. To have the respect, of course, of the Florence Bro's is huge. Probably thinking how much they would hurt during that LONG crossing. Go Team Lift! Way to support the youngsters out there. Within 2 years I will, The Flite vs. Lift controversy, leaning more towards Lift everyday.
I've sailed this channel many times. Once back from Kauai in a massive north storm. When I was young like these guys I sailed a Hobie 16 from Maui to Oahu in gale conditions. Lost the escort boat early on. Good for you boys! Geev um!, as we used to say.
wild... this, like everything else will progress... add a little battery assist as they get lighter and the electric motors get more powerful, you'd want it down on the foil i'd think somehow. good for these two!
No these are sup foil boards aka stand up paddle foil boards so no motor what so ever, it’s all about using the wind and pumping the swells to propel you forward. It’s actually similar to a pump track for bmx or skating etc.. except in this case the pump track are the swells/waves of the ocean and are obviously in constant motion/change/flux. Sup foiling has revolutionized foiling since no motors or wing are necessary, all you need is the wind which works two fold, as it creates the swells in the ocean which you use to pump and your body acts as a poor mans wing but nonetheless helps impart some momentum onto you as well.
Thank you @metatron5199. 100% correct these are non powered foils. The boys are riding the energy of the ocean swell. Reason why this crossing is so incredible and ground breaking!

@@SirJustonian 78. Started surfing in 1961. Last time out I was 70.
@@michaelchisholm5108 Amazing. What was your favorite surf spots if you could pick 2? At 78, do you think you’ll paddle out again?

They didn’t have to pump at all for 95% of it, they just rode the wake of the boat.
Gully boy hitting da pinnacle!

Did you eat anything while out there? I'd be starving
Impressive
SImply mind boggling for those of us that are whipped after a 1/2 hr ride.
What size foils and stabilizers?
FOIL SET UP:
Front Wing: Florence 110 X
Tail Wing: Florence 21 X
Mast: 32” M2
Stupid question but do these things not have motors? Ie. Do they not need to replace the batteries or do they use gas?
