      When the outbound angle must be shortened as is shown on this frozen rail shot example, both speed and inside spin are required when the object ball is one diamond or less, up from the intended pocket.
      For instance; it is impossible to bank any frozen ball from the first diamond (or less) into the opposite pocket without inside spin and pace.
      Shot speed:
      Speed is required in order to compress the cushion so the cue ball can clear the double kiss.
      Additionally; inside spin is also required, in order to shorten the outbound angle so the shot can then be pocketed.
      Thank you for your question Leinsterken and hope this helps in the future when these shots come up for you.
      Have a great day 👍🏻

      Thanks Brian, it’s the only way I can really make that shallow angle bank shot. This said, I’ve also come to realize that inside spin, can make a big difference even on banks that don’t require it.
      I shoot with a player that was once #8 in the world in terms of bank Pool. (2008)
      He often uses inside spin on his side rail banks I’ve noticed.

      Btw, when you setup at the first diamond, it’s only possible to make this bank shot with inside spin. If you use bottom, you’ll double kiss every time.

    As with kicks, spin is king. Play with soft(pocket speed) shots that get the most out of the gearing effect and you will see that the fast shot will not shorten as much. The ball does need to be farther off the rail giving time and distance to avoid double hit. A time and place for every different scenario.

    Inside kill makes banking tougher to make sure you cut it enough or not to shorten the bank too much. But also needed at times to avoid the kiss or to help get better shape on the following ball. Cheers

    Ron, when you are shooting from the middle diamond, where is your aim point? The first diamond you aimed at the diamond. That's good to know, I usually use "feel" to make the same shots, but I like to aim if possible. With some of my understanding of the shot, a double kiss needs to be avoided, especially when the shot is straight into the rail. So, yea, we have to hit with speed to drive the object ball into the rail allowing the cue ball to clear. You can see it in slow motion, as well as the imparted english.
    I use a similar center ball system. The diamonds are numbered 4 (first from the corner), 6 (middle), and 8 (third - to pot the corner). The half diamonds between them are 5 and 7. The aim point on the object ball corresponds to the rail position. The edge of the ball is aiming position 4 when the object ball is on the first diamond, and half a cue tip outside is 5 for the half diamond between 4 and 6. The aim point 6 is a full cue tip outside the ball on the middle diamond, etc.
    We compensate for shots not straight by changing the aim point depending on how far off line the cue ball is. Half a diamond on the far rail changes the aim by one point on the cue ball. But it's a complicated system, and it takes time to think it through as the shot clock winds down. I think I prefer easy. Inside english and aim at some point on the rail. We should be able to do that same shot anywhere along the rail, then, of we can imagine an aiming point on the rail relative to the cue ball. Just wondering where that aim point would be.

    • @ronthepoolstudent
      @ronthepoolstudent  3 месяца назад

      Middle diamond position when the cue ball is straight out is slightly more than a center to edge hit Norman.
      If the shot is aimed exactly at center to edge (half ball hit), the object ball will hit short of the pocket.
      Btw, I totally agree that the system you have described is complicated. I have no idea how it should be calculated.
      I prefer methods and techniques that keep me in rhythm. For this reason, I will practice shots until I develop a feel for them based on experimentation of various angles. From there, eventually memory/feel kicks in during actual match situations and I simply commit to the shot based on what I experienced at practice.
      This has served me well in that I don’t have to stop my momentum (mid match) to make complex calculation that may actually shark my rhythm.
      Hope that makes sense 👍🏻

    • @RoobieRhoo
      @RoobieRhoo 3 месяца назад

      @@ronthepoolstudent Yes, makes sense. Adjusting for a shot that is either not straight or not on a diamond takes a feel, too. I rely on diamonds to set up my basic shot, then "feel" the adjustment necessary in speed, spin, and aim. My team mates tease me by spouting out random math equations. LOL
      Last night, after a huge come back, we already won the match and we're in the last game. The 8 ball was near the corner pocket. I was reminded I could just pick up the 8 ball and toss it in the pocket so we can go home. I'm not afraid to try the 2 rail kick, so they yammered as I was looking it over. I practice those shots. They don't. But we have a lot fun.

    Was excited to try this. I just did and I made it a few times but most often the sound was like I had a kiss shot, and most often the object ball went to the first diamond from the top at the end. When I made it I was trying to focus on what I did, but both times wasn’t sure after.
    So mainly asking here, I’m thinking you have to hit the object ball slightly to the left, with right English? Medium or hard speed? I’m not getting it to work. I’m sure it’s just me misunderstanding something.
