    Musical progress is always the result of breaking boundaries. You can't break boundaries without establishing them before, though. That gives genres some legitimacy in my eyes. Genres establish the boundaries, they define the tools, they teach the craftsmanship.

    I didn't stop. I got the free Ozone EQ today and tried to analyse Directions. Wow! That is so rich in sounds! The high-hat is the only part I could clearly distinguish. Everything else is so organic and fluent like an organism, yet absolutely harmonic. After all it's not different instruments but always a synthesiser.

    The Secret making a hit is to experince a special feeling and translate the feeling into music. You have no stories to tell you will never have real success.
    This is also the reason why no new genre is upcomming - because no one is experincing real things anymore, most people experince everything threw the internet.

  • @Coddlesworth
    @Coddlesworth 10 месяцев назад +1

    Seriously, though... in so many cases, the nuances between genres can often be really hard to pin down, especially with so many traits that crossover from one genre to another.
    I once made an observation that many people would argue that a song was from a particular genre based on the DJ they first heard play it and the genre that DJ was known to play or, in some cases the label it was released on (late stage Hooj Choons was confusing for a lot of dance music amoisseurs).
    This was especially true of late 90s, early 00s "Progressive House."
    Take Silone Soul's "Chic-O-Laa (H-Foundation remix)." A lot of Prog House DJs had that record in rotation and so many people swore it was a Progressive House tune.
    Maybe the most egregious I experienced was this group of kids who were absolutely certain that "Pumpin" by Novy and Eniac was trance because Dave Ralph played it it at this huge rave in Washington D.C. (never mind Donald Glaude also played it later that same day).
    Anyway, just musing on the nature of genre labeling and why, at the end of the day, EVERYTHING is trance.

    Ok, Alice, so I know that you are gonna know what I'm talking about: as a producer, or engineer, specifically as one who either (1) works with clients in the presence of clients and/or (2) alone, but makes content that is viewed by others, there is an important creative decision that we all realize we must make: What is my default "Playback-Posture" - i.e. "what the hell am I going to 'do with myself' during sessions, when I'm playing back tracks??" LOL, I know, but it is an important style choice, a branding decision, and it matters, for the producer, and the clients. Some people have a confident nod, some people groove or tap, etc. And I suppose, yes, there are some famous producers and mixers who have made "do nothing. like, nu... thing..." into an option, but I think that it's not a great one.
    All this is just to say: Alice, I think your Playback-Posture / Production-Chair-Dance is excellent. One of the best I've ever seen in fact. You really managed to nail it. And, also, your videos and music and skills and stuff are pretty polished as well. Keep it coming.

    Lol that split second bit about using loops... I wonder how often top producers like Anyma for example use premade loops with hats or other elements?

    • @Alice-Efe
      @Alice-Efe  11 месяцев назад +1

      It is hard to know how much Anyma uses unfortunately I have never met him but a lot of top of the top producers use loops, EXTENSIVELY. I personally know some big names do it.

  • @olartio2185
    @olartio2185 10 месяцев назад

    Even though you might not agree anyma approach to techno is a little influenced by trance. More so the psy trance genre since it is more sound design oriented . Even the pre drop melodic themes are a little reminiscent of the astrix style of progressive psy.
    A thing that "bothers" me is that i think what afterlife did to techno is like what swedish house mafia did to progressive house. You couldn't even search progressive house online without being bombarded with that edm style of big room house.
    Thank god pro house was saved by Nick Warren , Hernan , Guy J and co.
    A similar thing is happening now when you search techno .
    Anyways great content and very nice track . 👏

    Indeed the entire producer world seems to copy/paste Afterlife style music these days. Even to the point where it gets pretty boring. Generation Z producers I guess. Then again, isn't recycling old proven hits and calling them "Nostalgia" another form of lazy, "hey look at me" producing? Just wondering.

      It’s because they wanna get famous at any cost and quick. The whole techno scene feels like this now with a few exceptions. Luckily, there are still amazing artists outside that keep it real, we didn’t discover yet or maybe never will because they don’t care about socials or becoming famous copy cats.
