    There is something many people are not taking into count - being in the comfort of your home, being "prepared" that something will happen next couple of seconds, being able to rewind, watch it again, rewind, watch it again and then analyze - this is not how the real life works. You have one chance, many more "inputs/distractions" and have to analyze way more data, you are usually not prepared and have way less time to react.
    I often check some situations on my camera and they are so different than what I "saw" and "remember".

      At my local track days it's often very quiet at the end of the day. Just last weekend I could have gone out and had the whole track to myself.. but I'd already hit a new personal best and decided to call it a day. That's the kind of moment where you let your guard down and you _might_ come unstuck. Not guaranteed of course, but a higher risk. I'd had my fun, I went home in one piece..

    2:48 dude, you were able to brake and start manouvering before your mouth started to move - even if it was a "late" reaction it was an absurd godspeed fast move you performed. At 1:56 you can see flashing indicators exactly in the moment the "wowowo" starts, which means the pedalwork and decision to steer was done way before all of that. That's awesome!

    • @kathleenmacdonald2843
      @kathleenmacdonald2843 Месяц назад +11

      And because he was already at/close to the limit of his steering he had to wait for the car to slow to allow him the extra amount of steering to avoid the car. Had he instinctively tried to steer away at that speed he would’ve had the back end flying out and almost definitely would’ve crashed. He’s an Insanely good driver

    With the massive windshield pillars that are typical of modern vehicles, there's no way most drivers would have seen that car until they were less than 30 meters away. The GR Yaris is an awesome car but does not have great forward visibility.

    • @MikkoRantalainen
      @MikkoRantalainen Месяц назад

      Yes, you have to intentionally peak around the pillar to see if there's anything worth knowing. I hate it but I understand that even with high strength steel you have to make those pillars pretty thick to be able to contain both strong enough windshield pillar and one or more airbags. And sometimes even ventilation piping. I'd rather have a car without air vents in the pillar if I can get better visibility in return.

    I'm reading a lot of comments on the gu leaving his stranded car.
    I've done quite a few laps on the Nordschleife, approximately 500. It might be stupid to get out the car in that exact moment (when cars are coming at you, which you can definitely see and hear), but on the other hand I would totally not wait in the vulnerable car til a yellow phase or whatever. This is NOT a race with marshalls everywhere and knowledgeable drivers. I would wait til I see/hear nobody and run behind the barrier. Or at this spot even on the grass side as there is a lot of space there.
    Just my 2 cents with common sense.

      I know getting out doesn't take long, but it can be long enough to have a horrible accident.
      I know it is easier said than done, but staying in the car with seatbelt on and just bracing for impact is A LOT safer. (also hands off the steering, might break your fingers)

    The driver sits on the left, in that corner using your head and shifting your upper body position to accommodate it [if needed] the side window allows you to see a little bit more on the left than what a centre mounted camera would but saying that, I don't know how the A pillar is affecting 1/4 vision in that car.
    However one thing is clear if you lowered your speed a bit more to make sure that Toyota isn't going to drop into the Karussell in front of you instead of sending it and just hoping they would, then you'd have been able to have your eyes forward at lot earlier instead of the focus being on him.
    In the end, it's a track day with rules and situations more similar to driving on the public road than driving in a closed event. I've seen another video from you with a similar incident here into the Karussell before, instead of fully committing to waiting for the car ahead to communicate their intent you sent it anyway.
    Just take it as a warning to be more careful.
    You get 9 lives if you're lucky.

    The A-pillar on certain cars can be very dangerous. I remember driving a Volkswagen Scirocco lots of years ago when I took my license. We were coming up to a roundabout, and there was a car inside it that I just did not see but the instructor saw, so he hit the brakes for me. The A pillar on that car was so terrible for my height so it was literally blocking most things to the side of me.
    When you have to really lower your head and tilt it forward and backwards and side to side to see other traffic it becomes ridiculous.
    The roof on the car was too low and the A pillar too wide = lethal.

    • @MikkoRantalainen

    That's the ultimate example for your continuous preaching: eyes on the road, never look at cars passing you or passed by you :D
    I will definitelly be fully focused on the road ahead and only briefly check mirrors for faster cars behind, when i come to the Nordschleife.

    I can happily say that I saw the car standing in the carousel at the same time as you on first watch. As I was also looking to see if the other car was going to jump into the carousel after you!

      Not to burst your bubble but the camera has a far better POV for that situation than the driver so you were super late.

    I think the most important is that nobody got hurt, nobody is at fault, BMW's tyre exploded. some things are just out of human control. You can just see how important reaction time is in general, 1 second slower reaction time would have had a way different outcome.

    I remember driving on a curved road in a parking lot, and there was a pedestrian walking at the exact speed and angle that he remained hidden by the A pillar until I was almost to him. Luckily speed was slow so there was no issue stopping. But it was quite a surprise because he basically appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the road.

      @Diontb Месяц назад

      yes there is, look just at the start as he enters for a good 1/4 of a second you can see the silver car around the corner, also when you enter the carosel the left is completly open he shouldve scanned before and seen that as he enters but i guess you cant blame him too much as he is on it 24/7 so he probably autopilots most of it now

    Look where going. I nearly made such a mistake a few decades ago as a young man. Looking in my mirror at the golf GTI was pulling away from. Missed a car illegally reversing off the motorway right in front of me. Saw it last sec and had to react VERY quickly. If I had waited a fraction of sec longer before looking forwards! Car reversing was trying to escape a traffic jam further up!

    STILL crazy to me that people question you for much of anything like, "How didn't you..." When they don't do this level of driving...cause...you know...most of the entire world doesn't.

    It was just unfortunate combination of you guys trying to avoid being knocked by the Corolla hatchback, and the E90 spun at the Karussell due to tire exploded, and the a-pillar in the way of your eyesight too... but hey, most important is no one & no vehicle got harmed during the whole ordeal.
    It was for sure a #codebrown situation there.

    You know, sometimes i wonder about your traffic. I was there yesterday. Actually my first time outside the VR simulator. I only have a 325i stock on the mixed 225 front 255 rear tyres from Michelin, but i was going 200 through the fuchsröhre, there was no porsche in front of me indicating right, i had two mclaren and a gt3 RS behind me indicating left!!! This sunday was fun yet brutal. When do you recomment going there to have an easy experience?
