Bro, was about to dump my Dyson when it was pulsing, came across your video, did just as you did stripped it down washed and assembled, now works just as new, cheers and thank you, saved a bundle and learnt something.
Just wanted to say thanks. You gave me the courage to take it down and clean out the gunky black sponge that was making more of a mess than it ever cleaned.
AHHHH, isn't it great to see youtube clip that is full of useful info!! Our 7 year old Dyson has been great but is slightly blocked somewhere, I'll be performing a strip down today to fix it. I feel confident now I've seen this video. Cheers, John.
Great tutorial, I found one in a pile of items left out for inorganic collection here in Auckland so will have a go and see if I can get it up and running again. Many thanks from an other pensioner who hates to see things discarded that could possibly be fixed.
Love your work mate. Video is excellently presented. Like the way you speed up irrelevant vision and clarify the complicated or unknown components. Your commentary on the tear down and reassembly is spot on. You're a champion! Cheers!!
your video gave me the guts to try and move the seized motor, and reading it on a fix it website. I have a V6 max, changed the battery, the crown, washed the filter, nothing. You physically have to spin the motor, the inside of the grey thing, with the battery detached. I stuck a small screwdriver and spun it clockwise, no go, spun it counter clockwise and the thing worked even stronger than before. I read where the motor seizes so you have to move it manually to get it to work again.
i was told by the dyson help desk that my main body needed replacing (based on diagnostics line of questioning) but after tearing down and reassembling, it worked beautifully. saved me $250 USD plus.
These things are a piece of (well not so well designed ) spent the best part of today fixing Mr Dyson's short comings Thanks for the video mate Best regards Andrew
Thank you for the video our dyson v6 was pulsating I knew it wasn't the battery .So I stripped and cleaned as per your instructions fantastic fixed the problem 😊
Great tutorial! Our dyson was pulsing like crazy even after replacing all the filters. We wound up buying a newer model for the house and the "broken" one was tossed in my "to fix" box for eventual use as the garage handvac. I thought maybe dyson made these unserviceable because I couldnt figure out how to take it apart without breaking it but you walked me right through it all. Now I have a fully working dyson! Thanks!
I have taken apart my V6 completely. Cleaned everything ! Bought all new filters . Have tried 3 new batteries. Its still pulsing !!! There are no clogs anywhere. I have even tried resetting the battery like 3 times. Any advice ?
Great instructions. My V6 stopped working, new battery still didn't work. Tore it down using your brilliant instructions. Fan didn't have anything in there but moved it about and voila it worked. Feel like I didn't do anything specific other than tear it down and check each component I put back one by one still worked. Thank you
Terrific video mate, thanks...Dyson was cutting out intermittently and driving me nuts....followed the steps in the vid...took it apart completely, cleaned everything and its working great again now...saved me £300!....I owe you a pint! :)....subscribed and will recommend to others. Cheers
Superb informative video . Without a manual, its impossible to know where the various plastic fixing lugs are and this video is brilliant .Many thanks.
Excellent work sir. Dont think I could have done it without your video and commentary and useful tips. Was dreading trying to fix it but you saved the day. Have saved the video for future use thank you very much.
great video - my dyson now has a new life - my parts didn't come apart a easily as it looks in your video and also didn't click back so smoothly but watching you do it gave confidence to put a bit more strength in - worked fine no snaps.
Great video thank you! Do you know where I can get replacement filter pads from that go in the rear on the vacuum head? Not to be confused with the cylindrical filter that goes down the centre of the head. Mine have perished.
Thank you very much for doing this video! It will be so helpful when I pull my Dyson down for major cleaning. I'm surprised that the threads got that far into the machine, as it has a pretty good filter system. Cheers from Australia.
Thanks for sharing l stripped back my V6 and gave it a clean. I purchased a new battery which I now think it is faulty from Dyson for £65 so I will return as the battery will not charge… but great vid in turns of how to clean and upkeep the V6… 😊
Thanks for the video, very informative. I have just been asked to have a look at one, the red light of death. It flashes red even when it is removed from the body and charging doesn't seem to work as it has actually dropped rather than increased, would you say a dead battery? Is it worth stripping the battery to check for broken wires? Your help is much appreciated. Oh, is the motor, a stepping motor, as, when I check the rotaion, it only moves in increments.
Your the man. Did all the normal strip clean and back together that I had done before multiple times before including popping rear cover of motor to check the coarse and fine filter sponges there. (Max fill line means max fill but some people do not get that!). Checked my battery (it has been replaced with slightly bigger one after old one packed up) with voltmeter and it was good. As soon as you triggered it you got flash code five on the power change button led. I had forgot front access. Long nose pliers on the lock ring and a bit of jiggers pokery (half came undone a few times, then when half undone pulled lock ring back towards myself and eventually released about fourth attempt and front end off. Moved motor, it has some strong magnets in that baby, moved it it a max of a turn, tried it again and flash codes changed a bit and second operation of trigger it flew into life. Perhaps it has position sensor perhaps a bit stuck, it did not feel any looser after it started to run and stopped and checked but it runs. Thanks for pointer just done a full battery run with it and suction is as good as ever. They do clean well but need looking looking after, do not go past max.
Thank you for the thorough tutorial. When I got to the 7:49 mark, the round filter I pulled out disintegrated in my hands. When I search for replacement filters, I only get results for the purple center pre filter cone. Can those other filters be ordered somewhere?
hey mate, this is brilliant; well done. Where can I get the sponge that is in the back of the main body motor? (two of them) I can't wash the two of them; they fell apart. I can't find any to buy.
Got down to the impeller which didn’t spin freely. I saw no blockage in or around the impeller. It will turn underpowered foe a few seconds but stops . Has the motor seized up ? Thanks for the video.
Excellent video, thank you! Mine wasn’t switching on with trigger, so thought that might be the problem- I have been following you and stripping down as I watch, I’ve got to 4.12 removed the battery and when I push the grey button on the battery no light comes on, is this therefore my issue that the voltage isn’t getting to the motor and is there anything I can do please, thank you 😊
Great video thanks plus battery reset hack to restore battery life!!! I was going to throw mine away as the battery was only lasting around 10 seconds. I used this brilliant video to properly take it apart and then clean it but there is a battery hack worth trying too. Unplug the charger, plug it into your Dyson then switch on charger. Then, hold the "on button" on the Dyson for about 20 seconds then release it. Amazing - the battery life is restored !! I understand this can work on many Dyson cleaners and saves a fortune!
Great video. I have taken mine all the way down, gotten a new battery, and all I'm getting is a quick spin of the impeller when I pull the trigger. Sometimes 1/2 second. Sometimes less than. Any ideas?
Helpful for taking apart my dc62. All re assembled and clean but stops after 10 secs green lights flash around 20 times then starts again when I re press trigger. Any ideas?
What about the filter at the back? It appears to have a black sponge type filter in it. I can see it through the vent holes. Can you remove the cover to clean it?
Excellent tutorial, thank you. Your strip down is very well explained. Could you please help? On mine there's no power on the 2 terminals (main body) that take power to the brushes. I've cleaned them but zero volts. Thanks in advance
Fab video, my brush will not spin, have striped every thing apart thanks to your video, to check the contacts, could you tell me what voltage i should be getting at the contacts please
Brilliant, thank you, I was able to order a new battery and fit it myself, just waiting for new filter and rolling brush to arrive. Well chuffed, had my DC59 8 years and hopefully will keep going for another 8yrs.
Did the motor speen freely or you had to apply some pressure? My motor ha nothing blocking it but when i supply power with a dc source it pulses. Any suggestion?
Used vacuum one day ok and battery ok. Went to use the next day and flashing blue light. Family member used it for about 1 minute and it stopped working and put back on charge. No flashing light nothing. No red, no Amber no blue. Recently changed battery and has been working great. I got a new battery charger as thought that was problem but have tried and everything still dead. Should I just strip the vacuum down anyway to see if something is blocked? Hope you can come up with a solution like I may just need a new battery?
I strongly suggest to add focus on cleaning the fabric triangular/funnel shape filter. Dirt is collected inside that filter and if such dirt is not removed, then there is a high chance the unit will still be pulsing. Before considering washing the filter, the filter's lid/cover needs to be removed, then loosen the dirt inside of it with a brush, vacuum the inside, and only after that, it can be washed with running water on the outside of the filter. Never run water or compressed air inside that filter as any dirt residue will be pushed further in which will eventually caused the filter to clog,
Sweet video but how do you get the red release button that's attached to the handle as it has two pieces that stick out to help you grip it but one side has snapped.
I went through all of the steps and it is still stopping but if I hit the power button it will turn on again. I see the blades moving and its moving well but then it just stops. Any advice before I give up and buy a new one ?
Thanks mate that was brilliant! I was ready to smash the thing trying to swap the battery. I managed to do all cleaning etc as well but I couldn’t get the back filter off. It wouldn’t budge plus the handle part Has a crack in it and I didn’t want to force it. Very helpful, thank you.
thank you my sweetie. from a 78 year old, hoover working a dream.
So helpful, without all the gratuitous and useless commentary that usually makes youtube tutorials so intolerable! Thank you!
Watched several videos to fix my vacuum. This one is the best by far!
Hey thanks
Bro, was about to dump my Dyson when it was pulsing, came across your video, did just as you did stripped it down washed and assembled, now works just as new, cheers and thank you, saved a bundle and learnt something.

Just wanted to say thanks.

Amazing! Thank YOU!!! You saved me $350! PERFECT instructions!
Thanks Nat
Thanks. Very clear instructions and saved me a trip to the repair shop.

Thanks Kiearan - I really do appreciate that I’m glad you like it.
Thank you. Basically cleaning didn’t work but your video helped me get it fixed.
A really useful and easy tutorial without the usual unnecessary chatter, my dyson now as good as new after complete clean and service. Thanx.

Great video, made the stripdown and clean very easy. Many thanks.
Thanks for making it EASY, saved buying another new Dyson!

Hi I have a V6 that I’ve stripped down the Impella spins then stops after about a second, any idea what is wrong? Nothing is blocked
Brilliant video thank you! I also unclipped the washable filter and the dirt in there was ridiculous.
Glad it helped!

Great video, very helpful when I had a free V6 given to me I cleaned it throughout and now it's in my van with a DeWalt battery converter 👍👌
Great to hear!
Thanks so much, I was amazed at how much gunk gets into the workings. My vac runs great now
Great Sisha glad it helped

Great video thank you! Do you know where I can get replacement filter pads from that go in the rear on the vacuum head? Not to be confused with the cylindrical filter that goes down the centre of the head. Mine have perished.

you think so?? Ive been using mine for years in the DESERT and there is never anything in the filter--that makes me suspect it even works

Nice walk through thanks. Gave it all a good clean out, and it's back working like new again.
Just what I need to give my old dyson a new lease of life - the things I found in there!!
Thanks for the video, very informative. I have just been asked to have a look at one, the red light of death. any guidance on taking apart the dust bin
Thank you for your help. It’s been very helpful 👌
thank you so much!! I fixed it a tiny nylon thread all the way inside? Do you fix Miele built in coffee makers. I have a fault 74.
Thank you for the thorough tutorial. When I got to the 7:49 mark, the round filter I pulled out disintegrated in my hands. When I search for replacement filters, I only get results for the purple center pre filter cone. Can those other filters be ordered somewhere?

Hey Richard - Yeah I would say so, the motors are generally a bit stiff when turning but it should turn freely.
What voltages will be found on the tube contacts?
Excellent video, thank you! Great video. I have taken mine all the way down, gotten a new battery, and all I'm getting is a quick spin of the impeller when I pull the trigger. Sometimes 1/2 second. Sometimes less than. Any ideas?
It’s usually the battery that causes that issue, but you’ve installed a new one so not sure sorry.

Yeah these Dyson vacuums aren’t the cheapest best to try and keep them going.
Can strip down the cyclone further by removing T8 torx screws
Indeed
Thanks very much for the demo , I managed to fix my problem that's to you . Thanks again 😊😊

This just saved me breaking my Dyson in half. For the life of me, couldn’t work out how to get the cyclone part off the main body.
I strongly suggest to add focus on cleaning the fabric triangular/funnel shape filter. Sweet video but how do you get the red release button that's attached to the handle as it has two pieces that stick out to help you grip it but one side has snapped.
what are those filters called between 7:50 and 8:00 minutes? are they foam filters? where can i purchase replacement for my v6?
Yeah they are just foam inserts, you could probably make some up if you can find some foam with the same structure
I went through all of the steps and it is still stopping but if I hit the power button it will turn on again. I see the blades moving and its moving well but then it just stops. Any advice before I give up and buy a new one ?
Good job, thanks! Now I know how to clean mine completely.
Great video and good detailed clear explanation - thanks

Thanks mate that was brilliant! I was ready to smash the thing trying to swap the battery.
I managed to do all cleaning etc as well but I couldn’t get the back filter off. It wouldn’t budge plus the handle part

Very good instruction 👍

Great video. Would it be possible to show how the cyclone section comes apart please?
