- Our Dyson DC59 has been steadily losing suction over the last year and I decided to try and sort the issue out. After I cleaned the filter, cleaned the motorised head and stripped down and cleaned the cyclone assembly the vacuum was back to full suction!

That is a great instruction video. No music,no BS, straight to the point. Thank you
Glad I could help! :-)
Thanks so much for this, you have saved a Dyson from going to landfill (neighbor was throwing it out) simple maintainence like this saves so much waste and protects the planet. Again, thank you
Glad I could help Chris! :-)
Absolutely, just saved a Dyson that a friend was getting rid of as they said it was knackered. Also replaced with a fresh battery and it's good as new!
This video is a game changer for the performance and life of your vacuum. Thank you for making this informative and simple to follow video. I really appreciated the added insights on tips, tricks, and things you might run into and most importantly that you took the time to show the reassembly step by step -instead of saying something like “now put it back together in the reverse order you took it apart” which sounds fine at the time, but I have found *more than once unfortunately* it can be easier said than done. My vacuum is a few years old and runs like it’s brand new so thank you, thank you, thank you!
Glad I could help Amanda! :-)
GREAT, GREAT EXPLANATION. That was so well done. It is rare for a device such as that to be broken down, cleaned and reassembled with clarity. The accent didn't hurt.
Glad I could help John! :-)
I’ll pile on here with the rest of the grateful viewers, and, like the previous commenter, really appreciated the reassembly instructions. You saved the day by enabling me to restore my vacuum.
“‘‘Twas a brave man who disassembled the Dyson vacuum and then put it all back together. It won the war.”

LOL - Thank you Mimi, glad I could help! :-)
It feels so good to be know my vacuum is thoroughly cleaned after watching this! I’ve never seen anyone show how to get the cyclone apart. Thanks!
Glad I could help Lindsey! :-)
Thank you Russell - I swear this is the most high maintenance vacuum I've ever encountered :)
Ours took a long time to reach the point where I needed to strip it down. It was much better after I finished the video. :-)
The new v11 outsize tells you the maintenance info on the LCD.
I love your little pen electric screwdriver where can I purchase one of those
Lol, I've had mine the better part of a decade, and I'm only even watching this because someone decided to vacuum up flour. All I've ever had to do is clear the bin, and occasionally I clean the filter.
Yeah, they suck Henry hoover, never ever gone wrong and costs a fraction the price.
Thank you so much for such an informative, step-by-step video! Hands down, the best how to for Dyson out there!
Glad it was helpful Paige!
Thank you for such a thorough walkthrough of each step! I'll definitely be saving this video for the next time my Dyson needs a deep cleaning 😊
Glad I could help Valerie! :-)
Mate you are a champion. I never knew how to pull the filter apart. You just saved me a trip to Dyson. 6 years of dust build up in the filter gone. 👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Glad I could help Adam! :-)
Thank you so much sir. Serviced my mums. She was about to buy a new one. Faith in the internet has been restored! All the best.
Glad I could help Dave! :-)
Thank you! This was explained very well… my Dyson has been pulsing on and off for a couple of weeks.. I had no idea how to pull it apart.. it’s now cleaned and drying.. hoping that sorts it out. Great video. Thank you!!
Fingers crossed Nicole! :-)
Thanks Russel for your knowledge -- Of all the videos yours was the best demo out there -- We learned a lot from you -- Brian
Glad it was helpful Brian! :-)
Excellent step by step instructions, the best I've watched. Waiting now for the filter to dry...Thank you.
Glad it helped Joy! :-)
You are a Rock Star!🙌 Thank you so much for sharing! I gotta get me that screwdriver!!
Glad I could help! :-)
Yes! Where can I get that screwdriver?!
Me too 🤣🤣
@@angelsmith3152 I wish I was an affiliate but I’m not. 😂😂 look up 28 in 1 cordless torque screwdriver tool on Amazon. I needed it as soon as I saw this video!
THANK you very much Russell, I could not have done the thorough cleaning of the cyclone assembly without your detailed instructions.
A TORX T9 dedicated (not multi-bits) screw driver 6" long from handle end to tip will make this work easy and well worth acquiring one before starting the work.
My gratitude also extends to RUclips for their publications.
Cheers Gerd. Good tip to use the screwdriver! :-)
Good idea. My V6 takes a T8 not a T9. Maybe some models are different. Glad I double checked before ordering 🍻
Thank you Russell!!! This was incredibly helpful and clearly explained! Your video was so easy and understandable and QUICK! Fixed my Dyson in just a few minutes - cheers!!!
Glad it was helpful! :-)
Dyson needs a vacuum to clean their vacuums. I have the same drill. I’ll try this out
Hi Russell. Thank you so much for showing and explaining “everything” at a steady and easy pace. This will help me immensely. Thanks Again. Your a star.
Glad to help! :-)
Thanks for this gem of a video Russell. I will attempt this soon as I get through the others chores always awaiting attention. This was truly a great example of cause and effect. Remedied by a radical clean.
It certainly worked for me Luke. I missed a filter though, there is another one under the cover where the MAX button is. It was not causing a problem with mine. :-)
Genius! Thanks man, I was this close to throwing my Dyson away. Now it works perfect!
Glad I could help! :-)
Excellent video for a tricky disassembly - the clear instructions made all the difference. I found that a no.8 Torx handled (75mm) driver did the trick on the deeply embedded fasteners. Nice one. Thank you Russell!
Glad it helped Ian! :-)
Thanks for taking the time - the first thorough and complete maintenance video after looking A LOT! Brilliant.
Glad I could help! :-)
This is the best, most comprehensive video I've seen on this subject. Many, many thanks, Russel!
Glad I could help Eric! :-)
Thanks!! This was very helpful- my dyson is up and running again!
Glad I could help! :-)
Thank you so much for the detailed video! Got mine sorted thanks to you!
Glad it helped James! :-)
I have a different model but these steps were almost word for word what I did. Great job, thank you!
Glad it helped Tony! :-)
Thank you for a fantastic video. I have just completed a full clean of our Dyson and it's never worked better.
Glad it helped Russell! :-)
Thank you Russell for the great advice!
Glad it was helpful! :-)
Thank you so much. I never knew the top came off the filter I had been just rinsing it off. There was SO MUCH gunk inside and packed tight. I had to use a tool to get the stuff packed in a the bottom. Now it's like a new vacuum!
Glad I could help Scott! :-)
Same here, Dyson quality, but shame on them for not letting us in on that one!
Dyeing recommendation to rinse it is very poor advice. Opening it up as in the video allows a much more thorough cleaning. I use a small flat blade screwdriver to press down on the raised tabs. It takes some effort but well worth doing.
This tutorial was excellent. I gave our Dyson a deep clean. It almost looks brand new. Thanks mate.
Glad it helped! :-)
Exactly what i needed. My Dyson was pulsing like crazy. This fixed it all, like new. Thank you.
Glad I could help Brian! :-)
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Absolutely the best video for fixing and cleaning the Dyson!
So easy to follow Russell, taking apart the Dyson, cleaning and putting it all back together again.
Thank you Russell. Only by watching your video I have now been able to stop my Dyson from pulsating on and off.
Not sure I would attempt the servicing myself though even though you made it look easy. 👍😀
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Glad it helped! :-)
I wish you were my neighbor! Thanks for the tutorial, especially showing how to put it back together. I think my Dyson is clogged because it's acting up after I vacuumed up some drywall dust. Ironically, after I did that it expelled alot of the dust into the air, so I honestly don't think the filtration is great.
There should not be any visible dust Jay! :-)
Thank you so much for this demo...and for showing off that amazing screwdriver!
Glad I could help Arghjusta! :-)
Superb video. Have followed it tonight with both my handhelds.
Just the last step I couldn’t do as my screwdriver thing wasn’t long enough.
You explain & demonstrate so well.
Thank you so much 😊
Glad it helped Gill! :-)
Thanks! You can’t take it apart any more than that! I stopped before I had to unscrew anything :) It works!
Glad I could help! :-)
Thanks, this video saved me from having to take my vacuum in for someone else to repair. Very well done!
Glad it helped! :-)
Thanks, have stripped vac down and cleaned as described. Hoping this will do the trick. If not have you created video on changing voltage trip? Thanks again for great video.
Wouah!! The perfect and unmatched video about cleaning a Dyson ! Thank you 🙏🏼
Glad it was helpful! :-)
THANKS !! Russell - thanks for the great demo video. My Dyson was getting a little slow - I'll bet this gets it all lined up after I get the security Torx drivers. Dyson should hire you to do these instructional videos - you are just the right guy for it.
Thank you for your kind comments. Good luck with the vacuum! :-)
Fantastic video. This is one of the best disassemble/reassemble videos I've seen. I could follow it exactly on my own Dyson. Brilliant - Thanks
Glad it helped Jamie! :-)
And I now have a new sweeper Thank You!!
Sorry to hear that Kari, what happened?
Thanks Russell. I’m about to pull mine apart and follow your steps and hope that solves the problem, so thanks for the super clear tutorial, much appreciated.
Good luck Mrs T! :-)
Russell, thank you so much for taking the time to make and upload this video. It is so clear and precise.
Glad it was helpful! :-)
A very good video! The disassembly and replace was very clearly done. We've had the V07 and I need to do this thorough cleaning! Best video I've watched on this Dyson machine
Glad it helped! :-)
You sound so much like Ned Stark.
I feel like I’m getting instructions from Winterfell.
LOL. Winter is coming! :-)
Thank you so much for this! Best in-depth so easy to follow tutorial out there! 👏🏼 Well done! 🏆
Glad I could help! :-)
Thanks a lot for puttin this together, it's exactly what I needed, straight to the point 👏 - I managed to deep clean my v6 :)
Glad I could help Julien! :-)
Great instruction video. However it just demonstrate what a lousy design this product is. You need 2 university degrees to maintain it. I've given up using it.
Yes, you are right Georges! :-)
I haven’t got two University degrees and I found it easy to fix and maintain haha! I agree it’s crap though as Makita and Karcher offer far better alternatives! 🙂
The one I am having trouble with ( V8)is only 1 1/2,years old, and I have never had one last longer than three years. They work great when they work but you are not going to have this for a long time unless you have the time (and the equipment) to do this whole mess fairly often.
Thanks a lot Russel ! You make my day !!! I was not able to put together the cyclone . Now, I have a brand new DYSON 6. Very clear !!!!
Glad I could help! :-)
Awesome full demo of a DC59 teardown and reassembly Russell. I highly recommend this video!
Glad I could help Paul! :-)
Thank you so much i have had my Dyson for almost 4 years. This video you created helped me clean it out thoroughly. Well done from NZ
Glad it helped Joy! Loved NZ when I was over there in the early 80's. :-)
very detailed and clear explanation. great close up visuals. thanks for sharing.
Thank you! :-)
Thank you for this, finally able to get rid of all the dirt trapped!
Glad I could help Orla! :-)
Many thanks from Paris! You saved mine!!! Thanks to YOU!!!!! Especially last part while I was wondering how to open the cyclone part!!!
Glad it helped! :-)
Thank you for such an informative, step-by-step video!
Glad I could help Addison! :-)
Can't thank you enough my vacuum has been doing this for long time. Looked up so many things on RUclips and nothing worked till I found you and yesterday my husband took out the screen and it was unbelievably clogged and we cleaned the whole thing and it's working perfect, like new.
Glad I could help Diane! :-)
Thank you ! I was at my wits end trying to figure this out!
Glad I could help Jeanine! :-)
I nearly bought a new one today. But just did half these tips and it works. Thank you so much. LEGEND 🎉
Glad I could help! :-)
Thank you so much for this video. Has truly brought my Dyson back to its former glory! Feels great knowing I’ve got a spanking clean vacuum.
Glad I could help Keith! :-)
Thank you so much, Russell, my husband and I really enjoyed watching this video and look forward to exploring our Dyson. It looks brand new, we have subscribed to see what other gems of knowledge you have shared Chel and Jeff
Thank you Chel, I hope you find something else of interest to watch! :-)
You just saved my v6! Didn't know the filter opens up, couldn't believe the amount of gunk in there. Thanks a lot!!
Glad I could help! :-)
Very helpful video makes cleaning easy and extends the life of the vacuum considerably!
Glad I could help. :-)
Good job! Easily understood and very informative. Thanks for taking the time to share.
Glad it was helpful Chris! :-)
Thank you for the help I could not have cleaned it so well. I could not get it apart until I saw this video about the white snap ring with the needle nose pliers.
Glad I could help! :-)
Have this dyson and it wasn't working properly. Just before I put it in the bin I came across your video. Great job on the step by step instructions. Dyson working great now. Thank you.
Glad I could help Sam! :-)
Wow, thank you so much. We have always checked the pipe, heads and main unit and we were having problems. I complained that popcorn kernels were too strong to be vacuumed up. Then I saw your video, wow. It was completely the filter. I cleaned it and almost could t move the vacuum over the carpet afterwards. Thank you so much - this was a game changer!
Glad I could help Rachelle! :-)
You’re like the dad I never had. 😂 thank you! I’m gonna fix my vacuum in the morning.
LOL- Good luck! :-)
Thank you Russell. Your a born teacher!
Glad I could help Joe! :-)
This dude is the real deal. Great video. Got my Dyson working like new.
Glad I could help Jonathan! :-)
I was almost going to buy a new vacuum cleaner! So much fine dust inside the top filter, cleaned it out and it’s back on full power and no more stuttering. I never knew you can access the inside of the filter, thanks so much!
Glad I could help! :-)
Super video, this literally avoided me having to buy a new Dyson and get my old one fixed, massive thanks !
Glad I could help Stef! :-)
I love the fact you also showed how to put the head back togeth
er. Really helpful and good video.
Glad it was helpful! :-)
This is one of the best 'How to..' videos I've ever seen on RUclips (or anywhere else). Great stuff!
Cheers Andy! :-)
I’ll go ahead and get started on this. The issue your video described, the stopping etc. is exactly my issue. Thank you for this video
I hope it does the trick! :-)
Thank you Russell!! You saved two sisters without a lot of experience fixing things from buying a new vacuum!
Glad I could help Kaitlyn! :-)
Brilliant, thank you. I’ve never stripped mine down beyond taking the purple mesh bit off. Once I get that far I then whack the the rest of the housing a good few times to get the dirt out. This normally fixes the pulse problem.
So long as it works, it would be much easier! :-)
WOW! This is a great guide to converting your old Dyson, to practically new! Tear down and re-assembly was helpful. Cheers!
Glad it helped Jim! :-)
Superb instructions and easy to follow video..... and if you fast forward to the end..... The Dyson looks Brand NEW!!!!
Cheers Stephen! :-)
Thank you for this. I have the DC7 and was able to do most of the steps of this video. I could not get the bit in the bin off the machine but used a tiny bottle brush to get out loads of fine dust.
Glad it helped Rosie! :-)
Thanks for a few pointers, I’m fairly competent at this, wasn’t hard, but this video gave me a few little pointers of which I’m grateful for thanks 👍🏼
THANK YOU sir!! Mine was pulsating but charging fine and Dyson wanted me to get a new battery. Going to take mine apart, since now I see a lot of dirt gets caught in parts we cannot generally access. You just saved me 80 Euros, plus helping with the maintenance of the other Dysons in the family!
Glad I could help! :-)
This is so well explained and presented visually..thanking you so much for your time and energy creating this content…you are a life saver …stay blessed
Glad I could help Isabella! :-)
Thanks Russell sorted out a 5yo Vacuum which has just been used to clean a dusty house post decorating (plastering) and I mullered it completely. Thanks to your great video it's happily cleaning away again. Cheers Dan
Glad I could help Dan! :-)
First rate .... presentation was logical, brillantly sequential, and no nonsense .... Thank you for your time and insights ....
Glad I could help! :-)
Great stuff Russell. Serviced mine and it is now running like new.
Glad I could help! :-)
That was awesome! It was so detailed! I love it! Thank you for sharing!
Glad I could help Matt! :-)
Best Dyson video on you tube by a country mile - Thank you Russell
Cheers Steve! :-)
fantastic, so clear to understand, first class mate. I was so excited to get my hands on my unit to clean it.
Glad it helped! :-)
You are lovely! Thank you! I followed the video and did everything except for the last step which looked very hard.
Glad it helped Clara! :-)
Thank you so much for making this video. Behind the purple filter was just crammed with dust, which didn't seen right at all that it couldn't be cleaned out it's been driving me mad how to get in there. All sorted & drying now 👍 x
Glad I could help! :-)
old guy still has the best disassembly video of a dyson showing the cyclones.
:-)
YOU ARE AMAZING THANK YOU!!! The cyclone thingy was so dirty and whenever we used it the thingy was smelled so bad!!! I thought it was the filter but that didn’t do anything to stop the smell when we cleaned it. Just cleaned the cyclone assembly and it’s already working so much better!!
Glad I couly help Katlyn! :-)
Thank you. Really helpful. Much appreciation from down under.
Glad I could help James! :-)
Dude, you're a wizard!!it worked!
😮I've Googled countless times and the fixes never did.
If you lived in Nevada, I'd find you to give the biggest hug ever!
Now, to find a video for "new" one I bought!
Glad I could help Cheryl! :-)
Great demonstration, thank you! I was able to clean out tons of dust from my vacuum.
Glad I could help Shiraz! :-)
Got my “broken” Dyson on marketplace for $60 thanks for this video what a huge help!!
Glad I could help Andrew! :-)
Thank you for this! It was extremely helpful, and straight to the point. A perfect RUclips tutorial!
Glad I could help! :-)
After stripping down and cleaning my v6 up to the cyclone assembly, I was not brave enough to tackle that without instructions. After watching your brilliant video, I'm now ready to dive in and strip it down to it's skeleton parts! Hopefully this will solve my problem, as after cleaning all the other parts, it still sucks up little more than the carpet fibres! I can't wait to come back and let you know just how well you solved it for me 🤞🤞🤞 (otherwise, it means taking out a mortgage for a new one!). I've had my v6 for at least 5 years, so if this is all it takes to renew it, then you deserve a gold medal, sir! 🥰 I'll be back...
I hope it works out for you! :-)
This vid was exactly what I needed. Thank You Mr. Platten!
Glad it was helpful! :-)
