Thanks helped me repair mine. The v11 will likely be the last Dyson I buy. Great suction but making the critical parts from plastic is unacceptable for a vacuum in this price range. We're in our third floor motorhead as well.
Thank you from Australia. Managed to disassemble and clean my V11 following your instructions. It was smelling like wet dog, despite filter replacements, to the point of being unusable.
great video, thanks for sharing. Must say "Sir" Dyson designs objects prone to break and purposely difficult to repair. For the price they ask, they should be ashamed.
Thanks for the video, very useful. Three points for anyone trying this cleanup: 1) make sure the cables are actually wired correctly. Mine were white (ground), black (power). 2) it's a tiny posidrive head, not phillips and 3) make sure you coil up the wires back into the cavity they belong in. They easily get stuck between parts when reassembling.
Great!! Very good explanation! I don't understand how it is possible that Dyson sells (for a lot of money) a vacuum cleaner which collects the fine dust (e.g. vacuuming mattresses) in the machine and not in the filter. I had to send mine back three times in two years. Would never buy one again!!
So helpful!! My Dyson broke and I’m pretty proficient at cleaning it (w/o taking it apart completely. Nothing worked. 2 year old Dyson. I had the right screwdrivers and followed this video almost exactly (I have two little screws I didn’t put back in somewhere in process accidentally) and boom! Sucker fires right up when I’m done. FLAGGING: at first it didn’t start and then I retightened all the exterior accessible acres until I felt I’d strip them by going any bit further. That did the trick and she fired right up.
Richard, great job sharing how to make this repair to a “plugged” Dyson. The step where you have to use the screw drivers to separate the two parts is what I call the “manufacturers’ required repair secrecy. I believe that manufacturers make their products in a way that you have to know what to do to complete a step in the repair process. Most people would get to the step where removing the screws would not allow you to separate the two parts. I found that inserting a flathead screwdriver beneath the opening and twisted upwards released the two units without damage to the surface. Try that next time you have a repair job for this unit. Dan
I wasn’t able to pop that piece apart. It felt like I was going to break the plastic. There has to be an easier way to release those parts. What is holding them together after the screws are removed?
Yeah, I wasn’t taking no for an answer and pretty well destroyed that seal around the screen getting it off. Peeves me off they make that so difficult. Might be back to the dumpsters with this one.
@@gary194a plastic flat clip/screen remover would probably be better. Unlikely to do more damage to the dyson that you are doing to the tool itself. Less likely to scratch it too,
Thank you this is really helpful. I followed along taking everything apart. The metal mess is the hardest part. I just cleaned it out with an air compressor, I didn’t undo the electrical to wash everything. Lesson learned don’t vacuum up ash even if it’s cold. Thanks for the video.
Yes, Thanks so much for the informative video. Keep them coming as they are so helpful. I have realized just recently that it’s possible to give these Dysons a thorough cleaning. I own a v11 & 2 v6 cordless ones. I recently cleaned out one of my v6 and it’s unbelievable how much dust and hair makes it way in the cyclone area. I wish Dyson would make it a bit easier to access these areas for more regular maintenance. When they get clogged up the device doesn’t work as well and has issues.
WOW!!! The is impressive ! I am having issues with my Dyson V11 Animal! First it said that the airways were blocked, so I tried everything, I even ordered screwdrivers (first two sets didn't work) I had two screwdrivers that worked fine, but they were not long reaching. I. eventually got a third set that would work - but the screws are solid - absolutely stuck!!! I then kept getting alerts that the filter needed cleaned and it was as clean as you can get, so I scrubbed it and left if for two days to dry, no chance - filter needed cleaned again. Then the "airway alert' came back on and told me to empty the canister and it was clean and washed out. I was round the bend by then, and a week had passed where I had to dig out my old vacuum, so when I thought it had fixed itself - the Dyson started to work again, but "airways blocked' came on if it was in boost feature, then FINALLY - the battery must have gone, as there was no charge whatsoever and I can't get it charged. Dyson say I have to get a new battery which is fine - £85 - £100 but here is the issue, I cannot open the Dyson and have been trying for weeks now.... so how do I fit the battery???? I do not want it to go into a repair shop or Dyson service place for a simple thing like changing the battery that would cost NOTHING if I could get the screws loose!! The issue with the Dyson screws is :- because it is fragile plastic you do not want to try and force the screws, I cannot even get them started, I have tried WD40, and I just cannot get them to budge. My Dyson is approx 3 years old and has no abuse. I have a one bedroom property and not excessively used. I find it has basically been a waste of money if I have to keep throwing £100 at it every other year for a battery.
What is weird is there are multiple versions of the V11. Mine has a removable battery. A single red catch on the bottom of the battery holds it in. Just release the catch with your finger and the battery falles right out of the machine. Takes literally a second to remove it. Installation is just as quick. I've seen at least three different displays on the V11, as well as variations on the button used to select the power levels.
According to the time scrubber, 5:55 seems to be the most viewed part of the video, where he successfully pops out the Left Vacuum Piece (LVP) from the Right Vacuum Piece (RVP) from the top-right hand side of that square hole belonging to the RVP. Here, he lifts part of the LVP up so that the RVP can be pulled away from the LVP, since they're both stuck together. For those of you who struggled like I did, I saw in another video of a different way of lifting the LVP. At 5:42 (pause right here), he says that "you can kinda work around...". Notice that his screwdriver is more on the top-left side. That's were I focus on first, and here we're gonna "work around" the square to pry the LVP off. Instead of going from above the square hole (where the guy's screwdriver is at), I go in underneath from the opening on the far left side of the LVP. I insert a LONG (enough) flathead screwdriver inside the vacuum underneath the upper white mesh/filter (the lighter grey area with a bunch of small holes for the air to suck in), entering from the opening on left side and sliding the flathead to the right. Because it's long enough, i have enough leverage to lift up and bend the light grey mesh up so that it is raised above the square part the OP is trying to lift from (he's doing it from the top-right side, but ur doing it from the left). When the LVP is raised enough, you can push and slide the flathead even further to the right so that it lays over the square area (which belongs to the RVP). Now you got a stable gap. Before following OP's directions to "kinda work around" the square to pry the LVP off, you could possibly try to pull the RVP off a little, ala 5:58. At this point it should be giving in Slightly. Idr if I did this, I was trying a bunch of things, but pulling it off a little might give the gap you've made more stable, idr. Keep pushing the flathead to the right, doing ur best to "work around" the square (also perhaps pulling on the RVP as I said above). OP might have this down to a science, but for me, I think I just kept pushing near the area he was pushing at and eventually the RVP gave. Hope this was helpful. Maybe look at 13:37 for some extra stuff.
Thank you! Very helpful. It's a shame Dyson doesn't make parts available for their vacuums. For example, the little tab that prevents the dust bin from falling off after you release its catch broke off on mine. It's on the last piece installed in the video when the V11 was reassembled. Dyson told me the entire main body would have to be purchased since that part is not sold. Another example is the little plastic clip that holds the electrical connecter in the female end of the auminum long vacuum tube attachment has broken at least 3 times on my V11. Each time Dyson sent me a complete new tube (still under warranty) because the clip is not available separately. I removed the clip and there is a part number on it. Googleing tje number along with "Dyson V11" nets no hits. Dyson confirmed the part is not sold separately. Then it broke again out of warranty and I simply used a piece of tape to hold the connector in and the tape repair has outlasted the clips that keep breaking. I think the same holds true for the trigger. If it breaks, new main body is needed (the triggers are available aftermarket; Dyson does not make or sell them).
Thanks so much for this. My v11 had an extra 2 inches of wires which had been shrink wrapped into a nice little ball. I've cut it open for next time so that way I've got extra leeway next time I pull it apart and take it back together!
Thanks for this guide, just striped ours down as it was giving spurious airway blocked messages when using on full power, the thing literally exploded fine dust all over my bench. Thank god I have a decent shop vac to hoover up after this ridiculously over expensive piss poor engineered POS. Never buying one of these again now I have looked at how they work under the hood. I can only assume the QA team only tested this on perfectly clean lino flooring rather than the average family carpet for more than 5 minutes. The accumulation of fine dust past the filter was simply astonishing. It almost seemed engineered to fail. . . . .which I suspect is probably the case. Certainly anyone who isn't brave enough to follow a guide like this and tear theirs down for a deep clean has bought something that WILL fail in short time. Rant over :) Excellent guide! Well explained. Only step I had a challenge with was separating the bodies at 5:56 before deciding to just go for it as was ready to chuck the damn thing in the bin anyway! Curious if you have a brand of cordless vacumns you would recommend that aren't made of tissue paper and dreams?
Thank you Richard from France, I really enjoyed your informative video. It allowed me to successfully replace the broken trigger with a PETG 3D printed part. With your video, I took the opportunity, as you showed, to clean the other parts of the hoover. This was a great help in disassembly and assembly. Many thanks to you, it was very clear!
nice, thank you so much. Mind at 9:29, my Dyson has the clamshell enveloped all around into a kind of rubber cover. You have to pull it gently outwards to reach the clip in the back.
Have dismantled and cleaned many vacuums for the church thrift shop where my wife volunteers and have for the most part succeeded however I will NEVER recommend a Dyson product for the reason the company makes it almost impossible for the regular guy to take them apart and clean them out. Of course the Dyson people want to sell more new stuff or make sure the customer hauls it to a Dyson repair shop. Am doing one right now and will get it done but I hate working on Dyson products. It's no wonder that so much of Dyson stuff gets donated or scrapped because it just needs a good cleaning.
thanks, i did it, but the electrical clip of newer models is a bit different, and you have to make shure the connection is okay, before reasemble, i had to do it twice
I tend to use a magnetic tray to hold the screws (just to prevent loosing them). I don't have a V11 myself, but I wanted to be ready when I get asked to clean out one for Sombody else. Having had a V6 appart to clean it a few times I was surprised how thin and flimsy the plastic parts were. You really need those long T8 drivers for this job, so have a look for a set.
Very helpful video. However, even though the black wire usually means negative - which u say at 11:24 - at 9:42 it looks like black is supposed to be the positive, which is why there is a struggle at 15:16. I think this is also corroborated online elsewhere. So the order of your wires are right, and ur vacuum should work perfectly fine with black on left and white on right when they're both at 12 o'clock. It's just I think u put ur black clip upside down.
It appears he is cracking the plastic when doing this. I feel like I’m going to do the same and it looks to create a good leak if you crack this area 🤷♂️ Just going to blow out with air as best I can for now.
Thanks. I'm wondering about cleaning that part with the wires, though. Did you just dunk that into the soapy water as well? Is there an easy way to remove that wire assembly for better cleaning?
@@richardsvacuumcenter Thanks. I ended up dunking the whole thing in soapy water then blew the water off with a hair dryer. It seems to be working fine.
Good video. I was able to follow as it’s pretty easy until I came to the part « pry with the screwdriver. » I pride with a flat screw driver but had to stop as I was afraid of breaking it. There was no loose or ability to remove. I don’t know exactly what I’m trying to accomplish. I have a V10 which doesn’t look exactly like yours. Was wondering if a closeup could show what’s happening.
Thanks for the video. It is easy to follow and clear. One question: How to obtain and change the electronic plate?. I guess😬 this is my problem since my vacuum cleaner took some water when I tried to clean it up.
Hi! Any chance you would post a picture of what screw goes where? I may have pulled mine apart prior to washing and can’t figure out which one goes where. 🥺😩😞
No promises on that. I think if you pause the video and watch closely you should be able to figure out which screws go where. What screws in particular do you need to know go where?
Hey. Great video. I'm keen to know what differences there will be with a V12 slim detect. I presume there will be additional wiring in the cyclone assembly for the piezo particulate sensor. If you could give me a heads up what I might find that would be great. Thanks
Yes there is a sensor. A few screws and a small board or two with some wires that can be disconnected. It was annoying but it can be done. Just pay close attention and take pictures.
My SV12 base section has major cracks all the way round the trigger section and going down to the battery. I was really lucky to get the full section, the one you're holding at 3:10 plus a wall mount, plug and a battery in good health. I've wanted to set another charge point upstairs so it was well worth £19+9 delivery. Another purchase I'm pleased with is a electric air duster. Quick blast once a week for 2 minutes and lots of fine dust is removed. Two quick questions is it okay to always use the hoover at maximum power? Will it effect the battery or motor? There's a lot of heat produced at this setting. Also when cleaning is it okay to remove all the dust? I think Dyson said you need to leave it around gaskets for lubrication?
Hi, lot of thanks from France for this very clear and useful video!👍👍 Very well filmed and explained , Will help me a lot for a Top cleaning!! Just a detail : if your dust tank slides out without stop , perhaps the little and fragile ( like most of parts on these cleaners) stop at the end of the slide is broken? I bought one V10 already used with this issue and I installed a very little self-made and solide square to fix it. Friendly, Michel.
@@jamiey1644 Difficult without photo...I fixed a thin metal piece (4cm/8mm) inside and at the end of the grey support, with a VERY little corner at its end, to replace the plastic corner and to get a Stop against the little red piece with white mark. Glued and added two little screws for security from the inside to the outside of the grey support, then screws cutted at the outside surface. Delicate but easy with good measures. Cannot be broken anymore and possible to separate the tank from the support if I push up the red piece... The original plastic corner is much too fragil if we slide the tank down too strong on this V10....deliberate??
Does this guide also works for the v12 slim ? Not being able to deep clean the cyclones would be miserable and avoid me from buying after seeing what’s inside those cyclones after a couple months in my old Dyson V6
After I clean up my Dyson, I will consider replacing it with a traditional vacuum. The process of cleaning it is excruciating and time-consuming. Anyway, thank you for your video.
Hey! - I followed this video and it was great! - The vacum is now totally clean after we goofed up and used it for construction dust (never again). BUT, the vacuum head is no longer spinning. My guess would be that i messed up the cables somehow (im guessing that those cables that we "take apart" and put back together are the ones actually driving the power to the pipe and head?). What would you recommend me doing here? Taking it apart again?
This now makes my second deep clean of my V11 using your precisely detailed instruction. Any idea why Dyson used both Torx and Phillips head screws? They all look the same to me. Damn you Dyson!
I believe if it’s torx it means they do not intend for the average user to take the screw out and if Philips they do (hence why the battery screws are Philips).
Some of the V11s have a finger operated latch to release the battery; takes a second or two to remove. I have a couple of spare batteries (Dyson let me keep them when I had to warranty two V11s) that I change out all the time for added run time.
Awesome video💪 i literally clean my v11 today according to your video 💪👍👊thank you for sharing:) just a one question did you put the bit with wires in soapy water? Or you just cleaned with CA and wipes? Cos you can pull the other plug out on the other end can’t you? Greetings from 🇵🇱 Poland
I haven’t found a way to remove the wires without damaging it. I submerged the wires and have had no issues doing this service dozens of times. As long as it dries thoroughly you will be fine.
@@richardsvacuumcenter oh cool I might do that next time then:) i was a bit worried about the fuse on the wires which is about halfway through. I think is a fuse in isolation thing anyway
Дякую за відео. дуже інформативно. дайсон як новий, і буде мати максимальний КПД. Thanks for the video. very informative. Dyson is like new, and will have maximum efficiency.
Thank you for the video.. had no problems taking apart however the wire clamp broke on reinstall… anyone know where i can just buy this little black clamp piece…
How do you get the red rubber ring and black plastic ring back into the canister (clear plastic one the dirt/rubbish accumulates in)?? I was tapping the unit to empty it in my bin and the red rubber ring and black plastic ring came off!
You’re my go to guy when it comes to my Dyson v7 & v6! Just got my v15 on order! Is the tear down the same as the v11? If not can’t wait to see a v15 on here 🤙🏽 keep up the good work my guy! 💯🔥
the screws inside the metal filter section needs to be reinserted first before snapping it back in during reassembly.or you'll have some serious trouble afterwards
Great video, thanks so much. I couldn't have done that without your help! The only suggestion I'd make is that I didn't see you reconnect the little wire piece onto the circuit board. Maybe you edited that out?
This was very helpful. I really deep cleaned my vacuum that has dog dander in the dust. However, when I put it all back together now the filter error sign lights up and I can’t fully fire up the vacuum. Anyone else have this issue and know the fix? There is nothing jamming the filter (it is whistle clean), so not sure why I’m getting the filter jammed lighting up.
You may need to disassemble and double check that the motor is seated properly. There is a little magnet sensor on the end of the filter and so if the motor is just slightly out of place it may not be registering with the sensor
There was huge dirt which got cleaned thanks. But now the Dyson V11 US model is not starting. Batt shows full and allows toggle between the 3 modes. Same issue with a known good battery. Double checked I did not open any connectors just the plastic covers to clean dust.
I have similar issue as above. I've cleaned the back filter and the clean plastic manifold, no filter warning message but still not working. Should I disassemble it completely apart and clean it?
I’ve cleaned everything according to what’s in the video, and washed the filter, but the pulsing motor issue returned after a day (after being ok initially). Is a motor replacement my only solution?
I have read several people's comments elsewhere (Reddit Dysons group) that if washing the filter and cleaning the machine does not fix the pulsing, then replacing the filter usually will fix the problem.
any suggestions on the red rubber band on a v12 detect which appears to have come loose and slides down the cannister, almost falling out when I empty it?!
Can we not remove the wires from the bottom section, how did you clean this last section ? Unable to wash it due to wiring and its difficult to get into all the deep gaps
I have washed this section with the wires and as long as it all dries there is no harm. I have been unable to figure out how to remove those wires without cutting them or breaking plastic.

great video, thanks for sharing. Must say "Sir" Dyson designs objects prone to break and purposely difficult to repair. For the price they ask, they should be ashamed.
Yeah
In comparison to v8 this here is a mess.
V8 is not driven to 120% of its potential and is easier to disasemble.

Thank you!
A great video detailing replacement of broken trigger on Dyson V11. A known fault which Dyson want 119GBP to resolve on machines just out of warranty.
Thank you. I did exactly as you showed in your video. And my Dyson vacuum is like new. You are the master
Miele. I can ship if you are in the US
well done. Concise. Everything worked as described, and no leftover parts!
congratulations!
Great video. I was able to fix a friend's vacuum that was filled with flour. Thank you!
Excellent Richard ! Sadly it still has deep down emotional problems!!! The Dyson and I learned a lot. Thank you. 😄😄
Once again you have saved my Dyson life! Thank you!!
Extremely helpful. I just need to get the Torx8 extender so I can break it down further and hopefully that will stop it from pulsing on auto and eco.
Great video and accurate. Cleaning and a new filter and now works like new.
Great details, best instruction for cleaning Dyson V11 👍
Thank you for your video and details description! You help me very much and my Dyson has a second life. Looking like new!
Thank you...that was easy to follow. Now my Dyson is so clean. Much appreciated 👍
nice, thank you so much. Mind at 9:29, my Dyson has the clamshell enveloped all around into a kind of rubber cover. You have to pull it gently outwards to reach the clip in the back.
Thank you for a great breakdown on how to do this repair!
Great video didn't know how to open and empty out,you made it so easy!
Really helpful, I was stuck with how to fully strip down the unit. Thanks.
Would love to see a breakdown like this for the V12 Detect Slim
Thanks. Noted.
Thanks. This was very helpful. I successfully replaced my trigger and it works!!
Thanks!
I could not get that seam at 6:00 to pop but I was able to open it up enough to blow out the clog. This was so helpful!
Me too. It felt like I was going to rip a whole in the plastic
It appears he is cracking the plastic when doing this. I feel like I’m going to do the same and it looks to create a good leak if you crack this area 🤷♂️ Just going to blow out with air as best I can for now.
Incredibly helpful. Great work!
Thanks. I'm wondering about cleaning that part with the wires, though. Did you just dunk that into the soapy water as well? Is there an easy way to remove that wire assembly for better cleaning?
I haven’t found a way to remove the wires without breaking anything.
@@richardsvacuumcenter Thanks. I ended up dunking the whole thing in soapy water then blew the water off with a hair dryer. It seems to be working fine.
Very informative video, was able to get my V12 going again!
Great video. My v11 works only in "BOOST" mode, in "AUTO" and "ECO" the unit only pulses. I have found no clogs, do I need to do a full teardown?
Could be sign of water damage. Have you tried new filter yet?
Waw you help me open mine and clean.
Now back to life❤
I found the trigger cracked in a different area, I could fix the issue. This was really useful!!
Thank you, its very detail and kindness presentation.
香港人看到這影片, 實在是非常實用, 讚. 在中間pop up 位比較困難, 要自己摸索.
I'm having the same issue with mine. What did you end up doing?
@@louisecourtney4062 haven’t solved it. Stop there.
great video. quick question, did you wash the part that still has the cable attached to it?
Yes. Just make sure it is dry before reinstalling
What is part number of filter for V10. Or send me it's link as available on Amazon. I like your video very much

Thank You! This is exactly what I needed know!
Thanks for the video. It is easy to follow and clear.
One question: How to obtain and change the electronic plate?. I guess😬 this is my problem since my vacuum cleaner took some water when I tried to clean it up.
I don’t understand your question. What is an electronic plate?
@@richardsvacuumcenter I mean the electronic board in charge oof controlling all the vacuum autimatisme functions.
@@JJgonzalezpascual to my knowledge, the boards are not available separately. you will need to replace the whole motor assembly.
Thank you for the video. It has helped me decide to not buy a Dyson.
It should be fine. Just keep your filters clean
@christinedemaret8223 Hi! Can you give more information about how you fixed it so the bin doesn't come all the way off? Thanks!
Per Dyson if the tab breaks, the main body needs replacing. There again, Dyson does not sell the plastic part that this tab is molded into.
@@natew.5511 Yes....and with such a deliberate fragil part ....the good question is Why?
RUclips - “U” Gotta love it. Thanks ! Just picked up a working v12 at the dumpsters. Gonna clean and sanitize it. Had to buy a charger for it. < $20.
Anyway, thank you for your video.
very professional
can do a V12 video? It is different from V11.
Yes. You probably got the wires installed incorrectly.
Thank you for this, helped a lot.
Very through demonstration. The pleated filter appears to be held in with plastic thumb locks. Cab it be replaced?
Yes it should be replaced about once a year if used regularly
Thanks men, big help for me your videos
Very very good video !!🎉 Thank you so much❤
Thank you from Israel. It was very helpful.
I may have some extras. Send me an email richardsvacuummi@gmail.com
@@richardsvacuumcenter awesome thank you!
How do you get the red rubber ring and black plastic ring back into the canister (clear plastic one the dirt/rubbish accumulates in)?? I was tapping the unit to empty it in my bin and the red rubber ring and black plastic ring came off!
I have a video for that. Search Dyson dirt cup broken
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks
AMAZING! you helped me so much! thank you!
The part that has the black and white wire you put that into soapy water too? Is it cool if if those wires/connection get wet
Yes just make sure they dry thoroughly before re installing
Thanks for the feedback.
Good
This was very helpful.
Is your filter installed?
I have similar issue as above. I've cleaned the back filter and the clean plastic manifold, no filter warning message but still not working. Should I disassemble it completely apart and clean it?
Pretty impressive video thanks 😊
thank you for helping me to fix my
I’ve cleaned everything according to what’s in the video, and washed the filter, but the pulsing motor issue returned after a day (after being ok initially). Is a motor replacement my only solution?
I believe so
I have read several people's comments elsewhere (Reddit Dysons group) that if washing the filter and cleaning the machine does not fix the pulsing, then replacing the filter usually will fix the problem.
Very helpful, thank you!
Ty. I feel confident that I can do this now. 😂🎉❤
any suggestions on the red rubber band on a v12 detect which appears to have come loose and slides down the cannister, almost falling out when I empty it?!

I have a continuous “airway blocked” message. I have tried everything except taking it apart. Do you suggest that’s the best next step?
With nothing connected or with the nozzle on?
Im guessing theres no way to remove the wire from the remaining bottom piece after the entire thing gets disassembled??? very helpful guide tho
Good job and great helps a lot of people
Can we not remove the wires from the bottom section, how did you clean this last section ?
Unable to wash it due to wiring and its difficult to get into all the deep gaps
I have washed this section with the wires and as long as it all dries there is no harm. I have been unable to figure out how to remove those wires without cutting them or breaking plastic.
