- This is a battery drain test between the S24 Ultra vs S24 Plus vs S23 Ultra vs S22 Ultra! All phones have a 5,000mAh battery except for the S24 Plus which comes with a 4,900mAh battery. We'll run through a series of apps and tests to get these phones from 100% to 0% - which phone will come out on top and will it help you make up your mind whether to upgrade or not?

Great video, one of the best battery tests ive seen so far! I went from s22u 8g1 to the s24u and feel like im getting very close to the difference you display here. Once the s24 learned my habits it ended the day at ~60% where the s22 would have been at ~20% or so. My s22u has a lot of charge cycles, 1 cycle per day for 2 years so the battery could have been degraded by roughly 20%. Even accounting for that its still a very nice upgrade.

I think the whole video should have a warning text about the age of the S22 Ultra, for example if it was used daily for the past 2 years. I understand that it was said at the beginning of the video but a lot of people will jump to the ending missing this very important piece of information.

@@learnenglish-mv8hp I can attest to that. My battery was replaced as part of a Samsung repair a few months ago & it lasts about as much as the snapdragon S22U in the video
My S22 was pure s#!t from the get go. The 8 gen 1 was one of the worst chips released in quite some time

But I think it was a good thing in the long run, it was from Samsung's foundry and although it was shit, because of it Samsung has developed a much better chip now, and is finally starting to compete against Qualcomm. And we need competition, Qualcomm has said they're going to be charging more for the gen 4

Thank you for being the first person on RUclips to test the navigation power drain on the new Samsung device. What a crucial test that every other RUclipsr has neglected to perform. Was this test performed on WiFi or on 5G? Could you repeat the test with the opposite connection?
Thanks so much - I try and think of how I'd use my phone in any given day (not that I sit and scroll through social media apps for hours at a time of course 😅). The test was on WiFi for the majority but on 4G for the start. Not sure I'll have time/energy to repeat it again but if I can streamline the process of making videos like this it would be nice to do another with further updates

Hey Android Addict. In my little testing and comparison between the S24+ (exynos) and the S23U I've reached pretty similar battery behavior while using the device.
However, in idle the S24+ has a much higher battery consumption.
It is losing around 15%-20% in 6-7 hours. That seems not normal. What is your experience with it and do you expect a fix for that?
Hi there, I've not experienced that personally but I've heard others are losing a lot in standby. I did a test (that another commenter requested) where I had the phone left overnight with just calls allowed (no WiFi calling, no AOD etc) and I only lost 6% in about 9.5-10 hours of standby - so I wonder if it's something else causing the drain. I've had the phones on my desk the last few weeks and didn't notice a big difference between them whilst they all sat around waiting for their various tests but I'll definitely look in the S24+ a bit closer from now on!

I found out while using the 24 Plus that the 24 series has a high brightness setting. The 40 percent brightness of the S10 5G was the same as the 20 percent of the 24 Plus. During this test, all machine brightness was set to 80 percent, but I think it would be better to measure and adjust the machine to the nit brightness rather than this. Excellent I enjoyed the comparison test video.

Great test, more practical IMO as most people shopping S24u aren't cross shopping iphones, Xiaomi or Vivo (at least in America). Coming from S22u with Snapdragon it's awesome to see huge improvement in battery life. Can't wait for my S24u to arrive!

Notice the AOD clock on the S24's not moving around like the older phones do. I've disabled it until that is fixed to prevent burn-in.

I usually try to optimise battery life. Thus, I turn off all unnecessary stuff such as syncing, data, wifi calling and AOD. I turn on power saving, dark mode and eye comfort shield. Thanks a lot.

Question. The exynos 2400 did well but will it do well in a couple of months? I distrust Exynos a lot.
This 2400 seems to me like a 8gen2.5 in performance. Is like in the middle between 8g2 and 8g3.
But I think overall is less efficient than 8gen2

I think you should do the less intensive apps, like youtube, towards the begining of the test and the apps get more intensive as the test progresses. Otherwise it kinda inflates how much longer the leader's battery life is compared to the others. Like you might as well have done an even less intensive app like spotify at the end and let the S24U drain even slower while the others are dead and then claim that the S24U lasts 50+% longer than the S24 Plus.
Indeed 👍 Really the only way to do it is to just run the phones with a single app for the whole time - and use brand new phones - to make it a fair test.
This is the best I could do (after a failed 10h effort the previous day (due to a power cut!).

The difference between S23 ultra and S24 ultra can't be this big. Battery degradation must have occured on the S23 ultra
Of course, it can be the newer CPU chips are always more efficient.
SD 8 Gen 2 is more efficient compared to SD 8 Gen 3. That's the reason why I gave the SD 8 Gen 3 phones a miss.

S24+ performed pretty fine here. I think Exynos is finally fixed.

No it didn't. The S24 Plus SNAPDRAGON battery in tests has been identical (in some cases actually superior) to the S24 Ultra, yet this Exynos 2400 version has over 2 hours less battery life in this test. S24 Plus 8G3 would've been close to the Ultra, and might have beaten it. Exynos 👎👎👎

That's a massive difference between the Exynos 2400 and the 8 Gen 3, I really thought they would be closer. The Exynos 2400 is not a bad chip but nowhere close to the 8 Gen 3.

Comparing the versions helps me better understand the advancements in battery technology and which options may suit each person's individual usage needs.
Clear improvement from s22u to s24u..from 7.5 hours to 10 hours to 13 hours. Samsung really doing great improvement on every release.

I've got S24U. Would add that the anti reflective screen is great. You don't realise how good it is until you put it next to another phone.

From India my s24 ultra is giving only 6 hrs of battery On a normal day using it from 7 days idk is there any fault or any suggestions
Throughout a whole 16-18 hour day you're probably getting normal results - don't forget the battery will take a bit of time to learn your habits too
@AndroidAddicts ok actually 6-7 hrs is enough for me but when I m seeing its battery capacity videos..which goes over 10hrs then I feel little bit afraid... otherwise the phn is literally superb🙂
Yeah don't worry about it. If you did exactly what I did in this test you'd get around the same time. But no one uses their phone like this (13hs straight) so I wouldn't worry about it 👌

I'd go with the Ultra overall for the bigger screen. It still has excellent battery life - I can easily use it for a day without thinking of charging it
This test leaves out one of the most important aspects and that's the 5G / mobile internet efficiency, which is a common failing point of the exynos chips due to inefficient modem. I currently have an s22 ultra (exynos) and the battery life is horrible, especially on 5G. I'm upgrading to the s24+ but afraid it might let me down again when i need it the most, which is when i'm on the go using mobile internet.
Were they all on QHD+ also what brightness were they all set at for this test.

@@AndroidAddicts just for sharing i think no need testing it, i just go a shopping centre l, the display unit at level 6, s24 ultra and s23 series all full signal, s24 and plus when i see totally show no signal, and the s23 fe have half of it. I actually aiming for s24 compact phone, no choice have to go for ultra now. In addition you can see gsmarena battery life comparison, s24 not bad but in calling lose a lot compared to s23

It's true that the width of the pure frameless screen of the s22 ultra is wider than that of the s23 ultra, and that the s23 ultra is thinner than the s22 ultra?
As an S22 ultra exynos user i can still appreciate the phone is still a beast even in 2024. Battery life isn't super but i can get 5.5-6 hours of SOT which is still fine

Not sure if I missed it, but please confirm what were the screen settings during this test. 120 or 60 hertz? 1440p or 1080p? Please confirm for all the phones
All phones adaptive display (up to 120Hz) and at 1440p
exynos is not bad but they still definitely need to improve against sd counterpart because 15% loss in battery life and more heating is disappointing

My S24 Ultra does not last this long, even without heavy usage like in the video. The SOT is 6 to 7 hours max, and I have to run for a charger.
That might be normal - don't forget this test was run over 13 hours straight - not allowing for general use throughout the whole of a normal person's day - i.e waking up at 7am and sleeping at say 11pm (16 hours in total)

Hello, I have an s22 ultra when I use it to do demanding tasks I quickly reach 42, 43 degrees do you think it's a fault on mine or is it Samsung's fault? Does this reduce the lifespan of the smartphone? Thank you !
I think that's pretty OK for the S22 Ultra - especially if it's the Exynos variant. It'll also depend on your environment temperature too don't forget.

@FatihTaspinar-qi8ce for just browsing the Web with Spotify etc, 45 does sound a bit too hot. How's your ambient room temp?
I don't know at all for example when I'm outside etc I turn at 33 35° and I wanted to write 43° and not 45° is it damaging the device is its lifespan?@@AndroidAddictsfor example I work I'm not really on my s22 ultra I'm at 27°
It'll certainly degrade the battery. Try installing Good Guardians from the Samsung Store and then install the Thermal Guardian add-on in Good Guardians. Try reducing the CPU temp by 2C in there and see if that helps at all. It'll also let you monitor the temp over time

Want to let everyone know, i got the s22 ultra 2 years ago, battery life has been pathetic since i got it. Im talking 4 or 5 hours and its done for.

How much the test is influenced by the healt state of the batteries? There are new phones vs phone 1 or 2 year old...
It will definitely affect the results for sure. How much by is impossible to tell - unless I bought brand new versions of all phones and tested 😅
@AndroidAddicts the sure thing is that Gen 3 is better than Exynos 2400. The fact Gen 2 is so below the other 2 new SOC can be due to battery health

Just got s 24 ultra. Charged my s23 ultra and 24 at the same level, turned airplane mode and left them idle. And here is the shocker. S23 over the course of 15 hours consistently used less battery, about 5% less starting after a 2 hour-run. Why?
