We did the same on our DR650 and the 14 / 42 tooth sprockets got it in the ballpark I like . First gear was a little fast and it still cruises easy at 60 mph
When I changed mine my buddy kept his stock sprocket and we went out the only difference was his from start was quicker up to speed but what I gained at slow speed was worth it I could crawl with out squeezing the clutch the whole time. That was what I wanted. I've now done a bunch of the simple mods and it is a completely different bike now.
Im going to order 14/43 which will give me 4 usable ratios. I will probably only use 3 as the 14/42 ratio would be hard on the chain/sprockets. The power stroke will always be on the same links/teeth
