    No need to pull the axle. Just loosen up the adjusters to provide enough slack in the chain to remove the old sprocket and install the new one. Just did mine the other day. I like the gearing change, bike just seems more calm in each gear.

      And yeah it feels so calm gearing now ;)

      I'm swapping mine tomorrow. I'll do my own research, but is there an intuitive way to set your chain tension afterward? I almost feel like pulling the axle IS the easy way, lol.

  • @BlackhartFilms
    @BlackhartFilms Месяц назад +1

    I've seen this in a couple of your videos on the Scrambler 400X - when you go into Off Road Mode, you need to hold the button again. Process is "i" until you see "Off Road" -> Hold for a few seconds -> see "on" option (you're now in the menu to select on/off) -> Hold for a few more seconds -> dash will now say "OffRoad" and the "i" button will no longer let you see any other info, you will also see your TC and ABS lights on the dash light up, warning that those features are currently disabled.
    Right now, you are only getting into the selection menu, but not actually enabling off road mode.
    You can see it in your riding footage that the TC light will still randomly light up as you throttle it off road because you haven't engaged the OR mode, so TC is cutting power as it slips.

    • @RidgeRoamer
      @RidgeRoamer  Месяц назад

      @BlackhartFilms yeah, I realized that afterwards, but didn't go back and re film the switch to off road mode. Should have... thanks for helping to clarify

    This is definitely on my list of things to do sooner than later. I did the same thing with my CBR500R and it worked very well. I’m very happy with my scrambler overall. My only gripes are the really poor headlight performance and the massively over-brightness of the instrument display at night. Looks like you live in a nice part of the world. 👍😃

  • @dag681
    @dag681 5 месяцев назад +4

    Beware. The stock Triumph sprocket does not have threaded holes to use a “puller”. Some of these sprockets are virtually cemented on. They do not simply slip off the splined shaft as this video makes it seem! Good luck. The new aftermarket sprocket will come with these threaded holes, btw.

    I just replaced the stock Rear Tyre 150/60 R17 with a 150/70 R17 on my Speed 400.. It resolved this short gearing issue & the bike now runs very balanced!.. The bike now has become ever more compliant on bad roads + higher ground clearance + riding ergos improved.. Quiet obviously higher top speed/ lower revs in each gear.. So just 1 proper tyre replacement was all that was needed for my Speed 400!!.. So Speed 400 guys who'r unsure what to do, Ive given you a very simple solution 🤷

    Any sprocket changes need to be considered holistically, the engine is a short stroke, light crankshaft, four valve single and is designed to rev. At low rpm the oil pressure at the crank may be low especially with the 10/50 recommended oil that has to lubricate the gearbox, clutch and mains each with their own lubrication needs. Add to the mix the harmonic vibrations inherent to singles that in the absence of a balance shaft have to be tuned with frame design...

    • @RidgeRoamer
      @RidgeRoamer  2 месяца назад +7

      Absolutely... but don't worry. After switching from the 14 tooth sprocket to the 15T sprocket that comes from the factory in the Speed 400, I had the bike's chakras inspected. It was determined that the synergy between the 15T sprocket and the Scrambler 400X frame and engine was actually enhanced. Weld zen harmony was increased by 18%, the lubrication wellness aggregate saw no noticeable change, and systemic clutch inclusivity was not disrupted. I had the holistic bike organism certified for the lower RPMs using an average increased velocity output model. The Scrambler's unity alliance componentry now have verified solidarity.

    I am getting an early start reserching my next motorcycle, this one is extremely temping. I was looking at bikes in the 650cc range mainly kawasaki z650rs. currently riding Drz400sm, just want something for longer distance riding. I had a versys 650 that I would make trips up to my parents house on, depending on the route it would be 8-12 hours of riding. Shortest route all highway averaging 70mph, longest back road route is 2 hours highway and the rest varies 30-55 mph. This kind of trip would be 1 -2 times a year. How would be at sustained highway speeds? most of the time I ride rural highways and mountain roads.

      @@emilia0096 if you're concerned about minimizing the time the transmission remains disengaged while clutching in, try practising this on a flat stretch: while accelerating gently, apply and keep enough pressure on the shift lever to be able to shift, and then pull in the clutch momentarily while dipping the throttle simultaneously - again, momentarily. When done right, this can result in a near-instantaneous, smooth upshift, without any harm to the bike. For downshifting, rev-matching is an intermediate-level technique that I would personally recommend practising on a safe stretch. Little joys of riding that take some effort to get down to muscle memory - hope you have fun
