Bukele was re-elected on february 4 with around 85 % of the vote. He was involved in changing the rules I believe to be able to be re-elected for a second term. I think that is only good for the people , the country and the future. A lovely center. I talked to a number of Salvadorians visiting from the US telling me about the huge changes that has happened over the last few years. How they even didn't dare visiting their own home country at times which says a lot. The cathedral was really beautiful. I didn't go into the library (chinese money) which is said to be really nice, cause the queues were always hundreds of meters both of my days wandering around the center. El Salvadors constitution does not allow a second consecutive term. So what Nayib Bukele did was find a loophole an 6 months before his term ended he resigned with congressional approval and left power to his secretary the Current president Claudia Juana Rodríguez de Guevara. He then had approval to run for a second term since he was not currently the President.
Nice taste of El Salvador so far. Cheap food and beer, beautiful church in San Salvador and vibrant markets. Glad to hear it is a lot safer these days. Sounds like there is a lot to see and do there. Safe travels 😊❤️

Also, since you have not mentioned it: Bitcoin is an official currency of El Salvador. You will see QR codes for it everywhere to use as a form of payment. When I was there I bought a beer with bitcoin. There is also "Bitcoin Beach" near El Tunco which is a nice area as well.
You can visit Lago Coatepeque and you can hike Volcán Santa Ana they are right by each other. Lago Coatepeque has a variety of affordable restaurants and for about $30 they take you in a small boat, haven’t been there in two years🥹
Yes the country has become much safer under this president. He is criticized for putting people in jail without due process though. My wife's niece is a doctor in El Salvador and she can't even afford a car or many other things Americans take for granted. If the country could attract more tourism it would help a lot. I believe the biggest source of income for El Salvador is ex pats sending money to family members in the country.

Hey Gabe I looked at some flights last min to El Salvador the other day on Orbitz which Ik is not the greatest for prices generally but saw some flights from nyc one way for as low as 75 dollars!!! I couldn’t believe it I wonder if the gov. Is getting incentives from airlines because of the new emphasis on tourism or something. Because I checked flights to neighboring Central American countries and although the prices were still pretty cheap they were still atleast double or triple that price. I almost booked it on a whim but unfortunately I have work rn but will def keep an eye out in the summer when I have free time.
I hope that you gave the lady sitting on the street a different coin because I collect coins but I have never seen a Martin Van Buren $1 coin in circulation here in the United States. People who may get them as change from a store probably keep them. I have received the John Kennedy Half Dollar coins from stores quite a few times though. Also, you should have kept it for your nephew in California who collects coins.
Gabe the president dollar coins are a series. There is even a Richard Nixon dollar coin 😂 and yes u can spend in the US. You just don't see many cause they didn't make a lot of them.
About the president being removed, what happened was he went for reelección so he has to leave the presidency 6 months before e takes possession again in June.
The Presidential Dollar proved to be unpopular amongst the American public and are today rarely seen in everyday commerce. However, they are frequently used in Ecuador and El Salvador, two nations that have adopted the United States dollar.
