- Launch control is something I've always shied away from testing, it means putting 100% faith in the bikes electronics and if something fails on the system it could seriously screw your day!
The 2017 Tuono has one of the best electronic packages available on any motorcycle so if your going to test it then there is no better motorcycle!
Well after being so impressed with the other Tunono electronics I decided I needed to try the Launch Control to complete the set...

Braver than me. I've owned the V4R Tuono for 4 years and recently upgraded to the 2017 Factory and I've not had the bottle to try the launch control on either of them. Your video proves it works and I'll leave it at that :-)
haha, yeah I was worried but paid off and was rather enjoyable! May try again on the RSV4!! hehe
@@LambChopRides haha ya the sound went from; brahhhhmp to BRAHHHHHHHMP in the bottom of first gear lol
I've always been in love with the Tuono and every video of yours makes me want it more.
+CNCycle it is a very special bike and if you have not tried one I really recommend it 😍
I'm here in 2019 going through these videos again when I "almost" bought one. the itch is back.
I'm totally getting one. Just waiting for the used market to hit sensible prices and I'll drop money on a low mileage factory 👌
you're riding all my local roads, can't believe I haven't found your channel sooner... subbed. keep it up
Welcome Pete!
Great Vid, loving the intro, fun to watch, keep um coming :-)
That launch sounds epic. What an engine. Every red light needs that setting!
Yeah its incredible!!
Man i'm waiting for the RSV videos!!
Great job on the Tuono btw
Thanks Dan!
The sound of that engine is sublime. Must sound incredible with a full system..
Yes its an amazing sounding bike, the RSV4 is even better if thats even possible!!
Awesome video mate.
Thank you sir.
Good demonstration 👍
Great Video mate
You can really see that anti-wheelie trying with that beast haha , great video mayn keep it up
yes you can, I thought it was jumping about but when you view the front wheel footage you can see its just keeping in on the ground! very clever
damn u make me wanna buy this bike after watching all of your tuono video..launch control is sick..tried it on my 15 R1..10k rpm..sheesh..I got no say..lol..
Just an observation id be interested to see the sales for Tuono's this year....just come back from the TT and seen more tuono's than ever before. I think the message is getting through about how good they are (RSV4 factory owner myself). 6th year of ownership myself of an aprilia v4 and ive no plans to sell it, and if i did id just get a newer one!!
Homer J. Simpson I've got the old pre aprc model and in 6 years the only thing that's actually failed is one throttle position sensor. The rocker covers leaked about 4 years ago also but that was cured with a part upgrade (they changed the shape). Just back from the tt 800 mile round trip and its not missed a beat....for the 6th time!
Good to know dude as reliability seems to come up all the time! Ive given the Tuono back and am missing it already :(
Lamb Chop Rides Yeah... I do try to look after it. Oil changes every 3k and below, coolant flush at the same time. Full akra system modded ecu, factory integrated qs, lithium battery, sas system removed, hid light upgrade, heavy duty starter cables, loads of ti, brembo rcs Master, nitron race pro rear to replace the ohlins, modded forks, hel lines and a ton of stuff I cant remember.... The problem is it's so good to me I can't stop buying stuff for it!
I had way more issues with my 1290 and no issues with my 1100
Yep I just got back from there too and see loads! Ramsey Sprint was brilliant on mine
Lamb chops have you seen that youtuber video of the Australian guy trying out Launch control on his MT10 where it wasn't engaged and literally backflips IN PLACE!!??? I've always feared Launch control since that video! Lol praying for you! 😉👍🙏
another great video, i take it with all the electronic wizardry you could in theroy hold those revs and dump the clutch open ?.. (and pray it doesn't malfunction and flip)
+Glen Whyte well yes I guess but didn't want to risk it hehe. Think it would still lurch if you just dumped it..
Hey Lamb Chop 🙋♂️
Nice vid as always 👉
Please could you tell the name of your backpack? Thanks
+luKiluk thanks very much, it's called an Ogio flight vest. Comes with a hydration pack also as it's supposed to be a mountain bike vest but great on the bike also 👍
My dealer told me don't gradually release the clutch in launch mode...just dump the clutch. Looks in the vid that you let out normally?? The electronics controls everything in launch mode I understand.
I haven't gathered up the courage yet to release 175 hp via launch mode :)
Does it have an anti-load-your-pants control too?
haha thats ace mr chops
I can't believe you didn't treat us to a launch wheelie 😂
Where were your rpm’s when you real raised the clutch and did you dump it or slip it? I have a 2016 RSV4RR and have wanted to try it but to afraid I’d loop it.
It looked like you were slow releasing the clutch (which resulted in a slow start)... my understanding is that with LC you should release aggressively and let the bike manage acceleration (of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't "ease into it" through a number of trials with increasing aggressiveness... has to be scary dropping the clutch fast at wot). If LC required you to manage the clutch that much then it wouldn't really be doing much would it? Love the Tuono... probably my next ride if I can find a place to get it serviced within 3 hours.
Rewatching this (because we're getting towards end of season and I'll spend the winter months persuading myself to buy another bike), and you can really hear the ecu retarding the engine to keep that front wheel down!
Yes I need to retest the launch control systems again. Trying to find a location to do some proper drag races for this 😎😎
Very pleased to see that you were careful to stay well below the national speed limit there, LC ('specially since I recognised that stretch o' tarmac & know how tempting it is to give it the berries). God forbid anybody should think the motorcycling fraternity would use our hearty country lanes as impromptu drag strips or race tracks!
haha yeah sorry.... I did keep it under 60 promise!
That running-the-footage-at double-speed-technique certainly gives a very realistic impression of blistering acceleration. Which is nice. 😄
Yes it certainly does ;-)
Does the launch control do the first few shifts or are you doing the shifting?
Always bonus clips after the credits roll :D Doesnt launch control take the fun away from launching it yourself? Oh and by the way, it wasn't an Ariel Atom, it was a Lotus 340R ;)
It would be tooo hard to lauch without all the AIDS plus of course even if you could you would need balls of steel! Its very intimating. Thanks for the tips on the Lotus, shame I had to retrieve my camera or would have give him some stick :-)
Lamb Chop Rides Fuck a full power launch, no way 😂 But whenever you try beat someone off the line, the launch is the best bit 😋 Oh I'm sure the lotus would've looked great in the mirror 😉
At first thought your tripod was a quiver full of arrows. Doesn't matter, but i still said it.
haha, yeah it does! :-)
Wow👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🏍
lol my varadero 125 is so heavy the engine would explode with the force of an atom bomb before the front wheel came up
direct access booked now though so the zzr will be coming out to play soon, that will be fun. ;)
I want to know how to use the launch control. Which button should press?
Little late but you hold both the traction control paddles + and - at the same time. Be safe.
I want to try this on my 2018 tuono factory. At what point does the LC switch back to normal? I ride on tc off, awc 1, abs 2
Ivan Nel when you shift it’ll shut off
👍🏼
you should of just put the rev on full and drop the clutch lol, but no that looks scary af lol next do it with a less aggressive anti wheelie
I own an FZ 09 which is great fun but this Aprilia makes me think of upgrading DAMIT
excelerater Mate, I am on a 1999 SV650, I have the same feeling but times 4000
I would change the LC for a fuel gauge, way more useful.
Yeah but launch control is more fun! :-)
Says it's too windy for drone. Immediately followed by drone footage 😂
Warp factor 10 Mr Sulu an new pants please
haha love it!
Has anybody tried ALC in Level 1?
Flipper after 10 or 15 start on lunch control mode first when you did that your tire must imperatively be hot or that wil cause an overslip of your clutch and you will kill it so that mode is made for track day only ...but i know everybody try it ...me first but like i say its not good for your bike
how do you like that helmet
Its realy good, very comfortable and incredibly light, its a little noisy though not too bad
Cool. Like your vids...i just baught a 17 tuono...
You used the clutch like there was no launch control what's the point of doing that!!!!
Twas a Lotus 340R not an Ariel Atom (yep, nerd). I'm ringing round for the best deal on a used Tuono Factory at the moment...can't wait to get one. Largely due to your vids...so it's your fault Chopsy :-)
Good move James fantastic motorcycle!!
@@LambChopRides I chickened out and bought a Ducati Supersport S. In September I got a BMW F800GT, first bike for 21 years, and I got bored of it. One sentence from one of your reviews..."Tuono's not a bike for beginners"...while I'm not a beginner, I reckon its too big a jump. And I'll get bored of the Ducati so at least I've got somewhere to go. Tuono in 2020!
Oh come on chops, you gotta give the other settings a go too. I expect you to do it again on the RSV4. Looked around a bit, I get that you're afraid, came across this video hahah ,ruclips.net/video/3rToeWNaIzE/видео.html
haha now Im so glad I didnt see that before I tried it! Would have bottled it
Ah, guy looks pretty unscaved. All you had to do was bring back the wrecked bike and say "Great bike, except the launch control, that could use some work" hahah
Dread to think how many miles this feature takes off the clutch, mechanical sympathy out the window..
+Nick Horton yeah I would imagine pretty hard on the clutch!
Is it adjustable? Also sounds like it's holding revs a little high. Watch some videos on Ricky Gadson and how he launches. I never go over 3k on the blade and it shoots off like there's no tomorrow. Minimal clutch modulation needed. You can then release the clutch completely so you only have to worry about throttle and shifting. Try it out and see. I attached the link below.
ruclips.net/video/OaOOLXTxewg/видео.html
Not sure it could adjust the revs depending on the setting.. But I would imagine only higher! Think it was about 7k..
Try launching at 3 like that video and do a side by side. Would love to see if you could best the launch control yourself.
Yeah I think perhaps if you were experienced and done a bit of a 1/4 stuff in the past you could beat it.. But the Tuono is sooo front wheel happy I think it would be really tricky
Yeah that's the difference. With an inline you can afford to roll off the clutch fast and it picks up the wheel way later down the line. But twins and V4's would wheelie quickly. Takes some finesse to get it off the line fast. That launch is so important though. Once that's locked in right it's a pleasure to get the bike off the line.
lol scary 😉😉👌👌
So you taking your bike or an aprilia to the sausage fest?
I wont be there long but will pop in, will be Superduke :-)
😂😂
Check FB please I sent you a pm
come on chops you big fairy
here come on chops you need to do better than that you're not supposed to slip the clutch at all I mean what the fuck are you worried about it only 175bhp for fuck sake lol.
haha yeah I dont think you can just dump it though.. well certainly didn't want to test it! hehe
Lamb Chop Rides haha yeah I'm only taking the piss I wouldn't want to try it on the road either. You ought to have a look at riding with Tom's videos on his old BMW S1000RR at the drag strip. He just holds it wide-open and dumps the clutch and the bike does the rest.
Yeah seen those before, think he beat the system manually too didn't he if I remember well...
Lamb Chop Rides yeah I believe that is right it just goes to show that if you have the balls to do it the old fashioned way it can be faster cause the electronics don't knock the power back as much .
