That is a very nice set up you have there Richard. The rack is the nicest i have seen fitted to a 400x, the baseplate and topbox are the way to go and i see the rack has some prongs so you can still you the rack without the box for carrying bulkier items. A very similar set up to my old KLE 500. I like it.
Hi Sky, I can do more than that 👍. One of the guys has just purchased a Maxima from Givi. This has a very clear flaw in design. I shall do a video on both side by side - and then give infor on the MonoLock alternate as well. Keep a look out 👍 and thanks for the idea of a video 👍
This is really intersting for me. I am thinking that I will want to downsize from my trusty 1988 BMW K75 at some point, because my bike is getting heavier as I get older. Having been used to BMW's excellent luggage system for the last 16 years, finding a suitable luggage system for long distance touring has been a concern. I have been thinking that maybe the Triumph Speed 400 maybe a good option. That rack looks like a good option as a basis for a luggage system. (And the topbox too). Thank you Richard. You have just sorted my future travels!
Glad to be of help Neale, everything is simple, it's just that we have a habit of making things over complicated. I like simples 😆. The universal givi mount is really underrated 👍
very good to know i can use monokey as have v47 but like to be consistent; yes, its heavier but need the std triumph rear rack ? straight forward to say take this off put this on; what; where/ who ? what reaily are you using; model no / mft ? for a givi box ? The rails are givi ?

Hope this helps 👍
What's the maximum weight u can carry? I saw on triumph website it mentions 5kg in company fitted rack... although do u think if we try some sturdy top racks it would make any difference? I recently got an royal customs top rack which alone weighs 3.5kg , haven't tested any load expect some light loads my question is the load dependent on the chassis mounting points or it has to do with rack alone with load points preventing any damage to chasis...
Hi Sid. The manufacturer will always be oon the safe side. With my rack, I have lifted the back wheel off the ground and the rack seems ok and more importantly, the bolt housing to the sub frame seems ok as well. I don't usually overload the top box and this raises the centre of gravity but, I do carry a lot of stuff in it to be fair. One has to this on what is reasonable I guess 👍
Nice rack 👍 But no thread lock again! There’s a lot of jiggle on a racks mounts on the road. We will be seeing a post ‘has anyone seen my topbox and rack’ vey soon I fear 😂
Hi, thanks for the comment. I have no idea what they are called. I can only ask you to visit your local DIY store and take a photo of the bolt. The team at the DIY store will point you to the right tool. Fortunately, within my tool kit, this comes as a bit which i can attach to my wrench. Sorry I can't be of more help on this. Your DIY store whould be able to better help you than me 👍
@@bankruptpensioner no worries thank you so much! I came back to this video because I thought you had it in the links. I ordered it from Amazon it's a Torx bit, not sure on the size, so I ordered a set. Thanks again, great channel.
@@NoFrictionZone That's right - Torx - regardless of the size, the kit you ordered will come in handy for the future as more bikes come to your garage 😆

Hi Gordon, the KLE500 was a great bike and truely built for off road 👍. Simplest way is the best in most cases 👍
No problem Richard, love your videos. 🇮🇲🇮🇲
Brilliant Richard, you have answered all my questions about these top boxes. Can you do a video about your mono key top box please?

Now I'm of to halfords and ask for one of them "proprietary things" lol
😆love it 😆 - why can't we just standardise and keep things simple ❓

Hi Ed, I think where everything was purchased was in the video, or certainly the next video when I tested the sprocket 👍
Can you please provide the information on the Carpuride, size etc

If there's one thing guaranteed to mess up the appearance of any bike it's a top box.....
true but for touring you can take the box on/off easily the racks rail add protection for the seat.
I understand what you mean Ian 👍😆. Not the sexiest addition to a bike 😆
Disappointed you didn't use a hammer there Richard 😁
Hey Scott, why use a hammer when a socket wrench does the job 😆.

If SHAD has this set up, I can do the same with my BV 400 and my Speed. I stay away from AliExpress though. 🤙
its the E251 universal monokey plate ? now what grab rails did you use. ??
Hi Ed, pillion grab rails I am assuming? the top bars for the bracket of Ali Express replace the original. HOpe this answers the question 👍

Of course I used thread lock - BruteForce.com. It's what was used in the war 😆 - and yes, she now has a lovely rack to cater for my big box 😆
@@bankruptpensioner I'm sure you hit it with your socket-hammer to really tighten it up 😹

You are right 👍, unfortunately, most things are made in China 😬
