This is what I'll say. I 55% disagree and I 45% agree with Shannon's assessment. Had Golden State ran it back with Harrison Barnes, Mo Buckets, Festus Ezeli, Andreson Vajero, and Brandon Rush I think Cleveland would've beaten Golden State again. But all GSW had to do was reengineer the roster. Yes the Warriors beat Cavs with no Kyrie and Kevin Love but this notion that Golden State stood no chance against Cleveland is just BS. In 2016 Steph had an MCL and a sprained ankle, Klay messed his knee up, Iggy had full body spasms, Harrison Barnes couldn't make a shot to save his life, Andrew Bogut got injured Game 5 and Draymond got suspended for LeBron stepping over him and it still went 7 games and Golden State played the worst game of the year and they barely beat Golden State by a 4 points. It took everything going there way along with LeBron and Kyrie playing the one of the greatest stretch of basketball to win Shannon is just biased with his boo.
All Golden State needed was to add another wing scorer and they would've beaten Cleveland 2016 and 2017. As you saw in 2017 Finals Cleveland guarded KD like he was Harrison Barnes and KD had the dominant series he had because they were so scared of Steph and Klay. And because Kevin Durant is one of the greatest players and top 3 scorer in the history of the game. I'm not ignorant of biased. If they would've replaced KD with a Paul George, 2019 Pascal Siakam, 2021 Khris Middleton, and 2022 Andrew Wiggins who can give you 18-20+ point scorers who can play hard defense they would've beaten Cleveland in 2016 and 2017. They reason they added KD was to become an unbeatable dynasty and they were. Once they got to the Finals it was a wrap.

Don’t get me wrong if it was any other finals where someone don’t exceed Kyrie production Kyrie could of won. He was big time.

But at least iggy agrees, the warriors without KD going into 2016-17, 2017-18 ain’t beating them cavaliers. Especially if the rosters had been adjusted, but I honestly think the dubs don’t make it to the finals the following year if KD doesn’t go there.

No, it was the Cavs that caught a break with Bogut getting hurt, Iggy’s back was hurt, and Draymond got suspended. Steph was gimpy. Even with all that, if Harrison Barnes would’ve made two of the many shots, he missed, the Warriors would’ve won game 7, which they lost by like 4 points.

Lebron’s Cavs were an OP Superteam…GSW only had ONE max level talent in Steph. Thats one legit 1st option vs 3 legit 1st options…
Of course GSW needed another guy who cud create his own shot off the dribble. The entire league always has to adjust to Lebron’s deck stacking/ring chasing…

I love how Shannon makes it seem like confidence alone would have kept Cleveland on top. Lol. The Warriors are/were a pro NBA team with pride and confidence as well.
Golden State could have easily gotten other complimentary pieces and been back on top without KD (as they just proved last year).
As great as Lebron and Kyrie were that year, there's a reason why they only won 1 chip in 3 years.
Their chemistry wasn't sustainable to do much more than win that 1 ring
