They were up 3-1 the first time They won those 3 games by an average of 20ppg. Steph knee and ankle is why they even had a chance and Dray getting suspended.
Idk why ppl feel like after 2016 the warriors wouldnt be able to beat cavs in a finals again if KD didnt go there. Steph was coming back from an mcl injury that required surgery in the offseason too. But he would never say that bc he's the most humble NBA player ever.
Draymond is trash. Why didn't he win games 6 and 7? He's not like that. What Kyrie and Lebron did in that series, Draymond could never ever dream of. Draymond is not even as good as Kevin Love
I always felt this way...first time the warriors beat the Cavs love and kyrie was hurt!!!! Truth be told lebron never played the warriors with his team healthy AND Durant not being there but one time...and that time he beat them down 3-1
But the time the Cavs won, the Warrior's two defensive anchors in Draymond and Bogut were either suspended or injured respectively. That plus the fact that Steph was playing with a bad ankle all series. So the injuries went both ways, in 2015 against the Cavs and 2016 against the Warriors. The fact of the matter is, we never got a healthy Warriors vs Cavs match-up pre KD.

They did not need KD, all they needed was someone better than Harrison Barnes, put in Jimmy butler, and the win. It really took Bogut getting hurt, Iggy having back spasms, and Draymond being hurt for that series to come down to the very last shot. Granted the psychological damage from blowing a huge lead like that could linger with the Warriors, but if the could overcome that hurdle then yes I believe they could have on again with no Durant.

It shouldn’t have even gone to that point. That’s what it really was.
@capricejean4680 it shouldnt have gotten to that point but it did because of Kyrie and Bron. They make it seem like those dudes didnt ball out. Steph Curry got locked up at the end of game 7 but Kevin Love. Those are the reasons they lost not Draymond getting suspended

They didn't need KD, they just needed someone pretty good at that position. The thing is, without KD they barely lost to the Cavs, with KD they completely demolished the Cavs, so KD was overkill for them to beat Lebron at the Cavs.
2016 went to 7 gane series that cavs won by 4 points. With the warriors only big man Bogut tearing his AcK in game 5, Steph playing on a sprained MCL and Dray being suspended for a game. The Warriors definitely could of won without KD if they all stay healthy.
This is what I'll say. I 55% disagree and I 45% agree with Shannon's assessment. Had Golden State ran it back with Harrison Barnes, Mo Buckets, Festus Ezeli, Andreson Vajero, and Brandon Rush I think Cleveland would've beaten Golden State again. But all GSW had to do was reengineer the roster. Yes the Warriors beat Cavs with no Kyrie and Kevin Love but this notion that Golden State stood no chance against Cleveland is just BS. In 2016 Steph had an MCL and a sprained ankle, Klay messed his knee up, Iggy had full body spasms, Harrison Barnes couldn't make a shot to save his life, Andrew Bogut got injured Game 5 and Draymond got suspended for LeBron stepping over him and it still went 7 games and Golden State played the worst game of the year and they barely beat Golden State by a 4 points. It took everything going there way along with LeBron and Kyrie playing the one of the greatest stretch of basketball to win Shannon is just biased with his boo. All Golden State needed was to add another wing scorer and they would've beaten Cleveland 2016 and 2017. As you saw in 2017 Finals Cleveland guarded KD like he was Harrison Barnes and KD had the dominant series he had because they were so scared of Steph and Klay. And because Kevin Durant is one of the greatest players and top 3 scorer in the history of the game. I'm not ignorant of biased. If they would've replaced KD with a Paul George, 2019 Pascal Siakam, 2021 Khris Middleton, and 2022 Andrew Wiggins who can give you 18-20+ point scorers who can play hard defense they would've beaten Cleveland in 2016 and 2017. They reason they added KD was to become an unbeatable dynasty and they were. Once they got to the Finals it was a wrap.

Lebron’s Cavs were an OP Superteam…GSW only had ONE max level talent in Steph. Thats one legit 1st option vs 3 legit 1st options… Of course GSW needed another guy who cud create his own shot off the dribble. The entire league always has to adjust to Lebron’s deck stacking/ring chasing…
I love how Shannon makes it seem like confidence alone would have kept Cleveland on top. Lol. The Warriors are/were a pro NBA team with pride and confidence as well. My reply was you don’t have to imagine since their 3rd best player was out during the series too. At no point did I say Kevin love had the same impact as draymond. What I will say is looking at one game to decide that like you did is silly because teams in the NBA sometimes sit their stars and can still win 1 game.

No, the Cavs snatched the Warriors soul, and I know that because Draymond said right after game he called KD because they needed him instead of accepting defeat and going back determined to comeback next year with the same core. Draymond is trash. Why didn't he win games 6 and 7? He's not like that. What Kyrie and Lebron did in that series, Draymond could never ever dream of. Draymond is not even as good as Kevin Love
Mentally they were WRECKED. It’s not hard to believe
Lol the thunder prolly would have been there instead that simple
I always felt this way...first time the warriors beat the Cavs love and kyrie was hurt!!!! Truth be told lebron never played the warriors with his team healthy AND Durant not being there but one time...and that time he beat them down 3-1
But it's not a fact the Cavs win again. It could have easily been 2-2 for each team.

Granted the psychological damage from blowing a huge lead like that could linger with the Warriors, but if the could overcome that hurdle then yes I believe they could have on again with no Durant.
No if they put in jimmy butler I guarantee they still lose. That's why they added kd. Not jimmy butler.

Who doesn’t talk about kyrie? What most aren’t crazy enough to say is kyrie won that series.
If GS kept that same team then they wouldn’t beaten Bron, they didn’t really need KD they just need another guy or two to provide extra scoring and be consistent look at Wiggins and Poole last year, that’s what they always needed outside of Steph and Klay
Wiggins and Poole combined are nowhere near as consistent as KD
That was the salary cap spike year so they would’ve had to pay a premium for a potential role player and Harrison Barnes. The KD signing made sense on and off the court.

It's a dumb argument. Momentum changed bc of one game?
No maybe nut checking folks was the only way they could win 6 and 7 but he couldn't take the risk again.
It's absurd.
That’s not the point though. The point is is that it shouldn’t have even got to that point which was a game 7. Drayomond gets suspended and then the refs pick on Steph and because the nba wanted to bring it to a game 7 because remember Cleveland was at home that game.

It’s crazy how people forget that Warriors we’re dealing with injures the following year only reason why they lost
I can't believe how humble Iggy is this guy is a really good player and deserves more awards I'm kinda surprise actually that he took on a much easier role in gsw. this guy can run a team and win he is superstar lvl and people are like nah you were just like the 3rd guy in gsw. this is the kind of guy that could slowdown any superstar in 1- 3 position and have a big scoring night he can go head to head against those guys if he was allowed to make the shots. honestly they could've still beaten the cavs but there's always an insane risk and bron was like super king at that point and kyrie rose to the lvl that you can't just really stop him from scoring. if the trend goes on everyone would've leveled up in the cavs and played better. but nah they got kd imagine the bloop in history it could've been a close head to head duels... not just cavs vs warriors but also warriors vs thunder or even a posible cavs vs thunder.
You never know. The spurs did defeat miami after that Ray Allen shot so it's not like GSW wouldn't have a shot against the Cavs without KD after blowing a 3 to 1 lead.
The problem was the 2014 heat was getting older with one of their major options declining to health. The 2017 Cavs was on another level. If they don’t run into KD warriors in 17 we looking at them differently.

They didn't need KD, they just needed someone pretty good at that position. The thing is, without KD they barely lost to the Cavs, with KD they completely demolished the Cavs, so KD was overkill for them to beat Lebron at the Cavs.
KD going to Golden State made that “rivalry” even. Steph vs Kyrie, Bron vs KD & Klay & KLove evened out because they both avg 16 that series
