My Brother Aaron, 25 years old, died Saturday June 18th, the night before this game, in a tragic motorcycle wreck. Watching this at my cousins house Sunday night, this game and especially the last 3 mins took me out of my extreme grief if only for a moment. I will always owe Lebron James / Kyrie Irving and the Cavs team for that special time. Lebrons speech at the end especially hits home for me as I rewatch this. That is power of sports.
Seven years ago today. I remember it like it was yesterday. It is, without question, the greatest moment in sports history. The Miracle on Ice has nothing compared to this. As someone who has spent their entire life in Northeast Ohio, I remember yelling around my house that hell had frozen over, and texting my mom’s friends (I was 12 and didn’t have a phone then). This was a day all of Cleveland and NE Ohio had been waiting for for over half a century. It’s easily the best day of my life
@Bisco Who what I liked about it is that we won it on Golden State’s court the year after Golden State came to Cleveland and beat us on our home court in Game 6 to capture the championship

Hi Bida The thing was that they didn’t actually need a 3. Kyrie hit that shot above 50 seconds mark. Had the warriors settled for 2 and played defense, make or miss they would still have gotten the ball back without needing to foul with so much seconds left to work with. But curry got greedy and cocky and wanted to respond immediately to kyrie’s 3.
Knowing that your one minute away from winning or losing the nba finals with your entire life’s hard work on the line has to feel insane. Hats off to the cavs.
We’ve had 5 finals since then and none of them have come close to how I felt watching this live. Summer 2016 was one of the best times of my life. Bucks vs Suns was good, but this final was unreal. I still get chills watching this game. Never get bored.
I’m not a big NBA fan, I mostly watch European soccer. But i remember being 12 years old watching this game, and being absolutely mesmerized. “BLOCKED BY JAMES” still gives me goosebumps. Just an incredible, hair-raising final few minutes of basketball.
3 reasons why this finals are historical: 1. LeBron James' chasedown block on Andre Iguodala. 2. Kyrie Irving’s 3 pointer over Curry. 3. Kevin Love's amazing defense on Curry.
NO ONE talks about the defense of Kevin Love on Steph in the ensuing play after the Kyrie 3....he was switched onto Steph and just locked him down, forced him to give up the ball, he got it back, locked him down again and forced him into a wild 3. Amazing
He put the clamps on Steph he was dancing on k love and he really didn't bite on any of the p fakes and he was watching Steph lower body waist feet you know c ause u can tell when a player is gonna pull up by his lower body movement s. That's exactly how defense is supposed to be played it was so fundamentaly sound
To hear Doris fighting tears while interviewing LeBron lets you know how long she’s been covering LeBron. All the locker room experience. All his worse and best moments. She genuinely felt how much this meant to him and It gets me every time. We as fans are happy for him too, but imagine being Doris in that moment is al I’m saying.
I was so happy I got to watch this live. The “BLOCKED BY JAMES!” The “Cleveland is a city of champions once again” The “CLEVELAND; THIS IS FOR YOU” The four point play. The 3-1 to 3-4. I remember game seven, it was the most nerve racking game I had ever watched. What a time to be alive.
i remember exactly where I was watching this in a cheap resturaunt in downtown boston. tons of people mostly teens literally just started walking in too watch and everyone started freaking out when they won and it wasnt even in cleveland. will always remember that day brings back memories dude
yeah... but that spot was saved for the monster block to Iguodala...I'm not American, but still is the only thing it comes to mind when they ask me about this match
@Lionel Avila And that foul on Draymond should have been a Flagrant One Foul. He made absolutely no effort whatsoever to go for the ball and used excessive force to try to hurt LeBron. Draymond is a thug and I am glad we beat them that night and that year.
@Lionel Avila Exactly. We had Love and Kyrie out for the 2015 Finals. In 2017 and 2018, instead of being a man and facing a challenge, Durant takes the pussy way out and joins the Warriors. I think if Kyrie and LeBron had stayed, we could have taken them this year and msybe even last year. They're vulberable this year.
Duwang Is Unbreakable oh trust me if he had his back with him he would have slammed it no doubt (back injury)... have u ever seen him go for a weak ass lay up like that ever again?
That defence be Kevin love on Steph curry was textbook. He recognized the switch early, shuffled his feet and kept his hands off him. What an underrated play in this game

One of the greatest NBA finals ever. Lebron James "the chosen one" comes back to Cleveland and promises to lead them to the championship, thus ending a 53 year winless drought. The city of Cleveland has never won a championship on any major sports team in this 53 year time period. The Golden State Warriors also had the best regular season record in history, and were up 3-1 in the finals. At that point, no team had ever come back from that kind of deficit. But despite all odds, Cleveland found a way to win, thus ending the 53 year drought and Lebron James kep his promise of leading them to a championship. And this is why the 2016 finals will go down as one of the greatest in NBA history.
Crazy how no one could score for 2mins 40secs. The biggest stage, maximum tension, players missing shots they've easily made throughout their careers... What a series!

If you look at LeBron's left hand during that play, it was on the other side of the basket. This was to block Iguodala if he had went for the reverse layup. In the heat of the moment in a fast-paced game, a critical moment at that, LeBron had the basketball IQ to think of this. This is what impressed me the most.
I WAS AT THE GAME: I’m from Cleveland. There were maybe only 300 Cleveland fans in the whole arena. Why? 4 reasons…1) There were only connecting flights from Cleveland to Oakland/San Francisco (no direct flights). 2) Tickets were INSANELY expensive. 3) If they lost, it would be a VERY depressing flight home…with a connector. 4) They are playing Game 7 in Golden State…the team that had the best record in NBA history. That said, it was a very high risk, high reward scenario. I spent $3,000 for an 18th row ticket. My heart raced the entire game. Didn’t eat and maybe took a sip of water all 48 minutes (severe dry mouth). Fast forward to when Kyrie hit the go-ahead 3 pointer (5:03)…this 65 year old woman, only fan near me, from Cleveland (I never met before) literally pulled an Elaine Benes and pushed me so hard and starting shaking me with complete and utter shock…”Holy sh*t…we may actually win this thing.”…and sure enough….I took a $3000 risk on the greatest NBA game of all time. 😊 PS: My profile pic is me at the game wearing the CLE shirt.
Why doesn't this comment have more likes??? Dude I'm so jealous of you, it's been 6 years and June 19, 2016 is still like the greatest day of my life and I do weird anniversary shit every June 19 haha I've always wanted to hear background stories from Cleveland fans about this championship and more especially from people that grew up in Cleveland and really understand the 52 year curse and lived through it because I'm sure the Believeland documentary doesn't do it justice. ^Elaine Benes that's hilarious!!! 😂 Man what did you do after the game?? Find some of those 300 Cleveland fans and celebrate with them at a bar or something?? I have so many more questions too 😂
Who else could've blocked that shot? Only LeBron I don't see Jr nor Kevin blocking that shot, If that shot went in gsw would've gained momentum which is a big contribution to winning games
Dynamics that would’ve been the greatest play in NBA history imo. That dunk would’ve secured a 3-1 comeback against the first ever unanimous MVP and the team with the best record in NBA history.
Man I still remember everything around this night, and these last few minutes while watching with my family. I was only alive for the LeBron teams, the awful seasons the Browns had, and the chokejobs from the Indians in the postseason, but my dad had been witness of all the horrible luck to Cleveland, to the point that he thought we’d never win something. My grandpa died a month before this game, and he was the most loyal Cleveland sports fan I have ever known. No matter how bad a team played, or how much he hated how they sucked, he watched every minute of every Browns game, every inning of Indians ball, and almost every minute of Cavalier basketball. When LeBron hit the free throw, and my family was jumping around, because we knew they finally ended the curse, the first thing I thought of, was that my grandpa was up in heaven smiling, because they won, or cracking a joke that they couldn’t let him be alive for the title. This will forever be my favorite NBA Game and moment ever. The finals after this were absolute garbage because Kevin Durant ruined the league, and Kyrie became a prima donna, so this would be my “series finale” of the NBA, the underdogs toppled the evil empire with all odds against them, so millions of people could rejoice.
Joshua R even LeBron admit that moved of durant to warriors... you just Bronsexual fans keep crying for losing to the warriors...take this big L... Loser!
I broke down crying watching this live…my Dad teared up. My Sister (RIP) watched it from work and called me. I’m just happy my Dad and my Sister got to see this. My Sister passed unexpectedly a month later, and I lost my Dad in April of last year to cancer. I tear up when I see this still because my Dad and I watched it together, I miss him and my Sis so much. But they got to see this. I wish my Grandpa had got to see it but he passed the last day of 2008.

Not sure how anyone can hate this man. Sure he’s not undefeated in the finals like mj. But he had to face the same juggernaut of a team every time he got there and took them down once. This is seriously one of the greatest moments in all of sports history. One of those moments where you never forget where you were when it happened. One of those moments where we were all witnesses to a king taking the crown
Was a great moment in sports history and don't let anybody fool you about losing in the finals it's an honor Jerry west lost nine times in the finals and they use him as the logo but nobody says anything about that so just ignore anything about losing the finals because it's like getting a silver medal in the Olympics there's people that didn't even get a medal and Jordan didn't get to the finals many times so his record is worse than LeBron's in actuality don't ever forget that
They are mocking him for losing in the final but that s why it s a fucking final, because you play against the other best fucking team. There are some players who on so many people eyes are so good but they never had a ring or even played in a final.
the same people who grew up fantasizing a fairy tale story. a flawless story. that you have to be perfect. majority of them are fans of basketball by cosmetic aspect. as soon as they saw bron doesn't move like mj, he's been hated. true basketball fans appreciate all aspects of basketball and if you are one, you appreciate greatness in lebron. despite the levels of scrutiny on this man since day 1, he still delivered. whatever you do tho, the haters will always be there and it's just the sad reality of life.

Hi Bida The thing was that they didn’t actually need a 3. Kyrie hit that shot above 50 seconds mark.

This is seriously one of the greatest moments in all of sports history. One of those moments where you never forget where you were when it happened. One of those moments where we were all witnesses to a king taking the crown
Was a great moment in sports history and don't let anybody fool you about losing in the finals it's an honor Jerry west lost nine times in the finals and they use him as the logo but nobody says anything about that so just ignore anything about losing the finals because it's like getting a silver medal in the Olympics there's people that didn't even get a medal and Jordan didn't get to the finals many times so his record is worse than LeBron's in actuality don't ever forget that
Shiiit true bro I'll never forget where I was when this happened
MJ also often got stymied hard when he doesn't make it to the finals too. It's either he's in the finals or he doesn't even make it.
