I have had my Blue Coral Note 7 for a little of a week now and I love it. Its my first note phone and I love it so far. I upgraded from a S7 regular version which is another great phone that now the wife enjoys.

It would make a great Blooper Reel if he had the Phone set to _Vibrate_ (in combination with his embarrassing Ringtone - just messing with ya, Jaime). Many Phones can stand up like that, especially if the plugs on the bottom can be used to hold it (or temp. glue), alternatively simply place an object behind it. You always want to be _ready_ if you do that (or hang your Phone on the Table's edge) since a Notification or a Call can cost you your Phone. He can afford all but the embarrassnent. Darrin Thorpe Completely submersed isn't practical, but it is possible. Underwater use is mainly for using your phone while it's raining, because the touchscreen can't detect finger presses when wet.
Insane phone with an insane set of features. It's hard to believe such an amazing smartphone actually exists, the amount of things that Samsung got right is just unprecedented, everyone else seems to compromise or target some niche, but Samsung gets it. They get what people want.
Sorry, but this thing is nothing to be excited about! It's just a bigger S7 with a pen and needless Iris scanner. How about duel stereo speakers, Hi-Fi audio dac, an extra wide angle camera on the front, bigger battery, duel sim slot or 6 gigs of ram for future proofing.

I've noticed battery problems is pretty common with Samsung phones unless you have a good and stable signal. My Note 3 could get really hot and suck an alarming amount of battery life when I just had it in my pocket whilst driving when the internet signal isn't stable. My iPhone feels more like putting a laptop to standby. It feels like it disconnects and just goes to sleep and the everything is instant on when I unlock the thing. It barely sucks any battery life whilst in standby no matter how poor the signal is. It's things like this that makes me crazy when switching from the iPhone. I should expect that a 3200mAH phone is going to last at least a day. I know this is different from person to person, because if you live in the city and don't commute so much, you probably don't even know of this problem.
What happens when you have both finger print scanner and iris scanner enabled, and the finger print scan fails? Do you have to do a swipe up on the screen to switch to iris scanner? Or will the iris scanner pop up automatically?
still enjoy my year of Netflix from my s7 edge it want the note but it's not an upgrade to me. I'll wait for the s8 all I want is the type c. I really am starting to feel like upgrades are not nessary anymore.

You will still need to take your gloves off to use the phone itself. So since I have to take my gloves off anyway, why don't I just take the gloves off before I wake phone? And then I can decide if I want to use the new iris scanner or go traditional with the fingerprint scanner or a pin? Sure you can tweak the sensitivity of the screen to use the phone with the gloves on, but you will probably want to reset the screen sensitivity when you get home and are not using gloves. Great review, by the way. Keep up the good work.
some gloves allow for touch screen use without the need of taking them off. that's why the iris scanner is useful for this.( if you didn't know some gloves have a special type of material on the thumb and forefinger to allow usage while covered, but don't allow the use of the finger print scanner. you could say if you have that why don't you just type in a pin, but it's all for the sake of speed of unlock.)
Do you have to hit the button on the side, then slide the screen. Then it will register your iris? With iPhone fingerprint, I just touch the home button and before my finger is off the home button, phone is unlocked.
how are the speakers compared to the HTC 10 and the S7 Edge? If I put the phone on speaker can I hear whats coming through the speakers with all the car noise around me when driving with the windows up. with all the tire noise from other cars on the freeway and the sound of my car.
hdr video was mentioned for playback and not for recording. Note 7 is able to reach a brightness over 1000 nits which is a requirement for hdr content.
This phone is beautiful! It looks better than the S7 edge because it's more square, it looks more masculine IMO. This phone only costs about $60 more than the s7 edge yet you do get a lot more. Bigger screen, more comfortable build (curved all around), Gorilla glass 5, Iris scanner, secure folder, upgraded user interface, HDR video, DOUBLE the storage, and of course the s pen and all of the features that come with it. I'd say that's a bargain. Apple charges $100 just for a storage upgrade alone. I WANT it.

That's not even the Settings menu that will be widely available: check any other footage of it to see what I mean instead of this Verizon one (which is a reskin of the older design). And if history is any indication: AT&T will ask for its own design as well =) Also, the thing Samsung mentioned about HDR video is about DISPLAYING IT ON THE SCREEN. HDR video recording has been there on Samsung since the GS4, and in mobile phones in general since the Xperia Z.

Can the s pen slot be flooded with water and the phone will still be use able?
People were using this phone underwater with the S-Pen in use, so yes, I would assume so (unless there's a cover for the slot I'm not noticing).

Darrin Thorpe Completely submersed isn't practical, but it is possible. Underwater use is mainly for using your phone while it's raining, because the touchscreen can't detect finger presses when wet.

Insane phone with an insane set of features. It's hard to believe such an amazing smartphone actually exists, the amount of things that Samsung got right is just unprecedented, everyone else seems to compromise or target some niche, but Samsung gets it. They get what people want.

Sorry, but this thing is nothing to be excited about! It's just a bigger S7 with a pen and needless Iris scanner. How about duel stereo speakers, Hi-Fi audio dac, an extra wide angle camera on the front, bigger battery, duel sim slot or 6 gigs of ram for future proofing.

Preordered the Note 7 in Black on Verizon. This is my first Samsung phone, been a Motorola fanboy since the OG Droid but disappointed with the Z force. Can't wait til this comes on Friday!
I've noticed battery problems is pretty common with Samsung phones unless you have a good and stable signal. My Note 3 could get really hot and suck an alarming amount of battery life when I just had it in my pocket whilst driving when the internet signal isn't stable. My iPhone feels more like putting a laptop to standby. It feels like it disconnects and just goes to sleep and the everything is instant on when I unlock the thing. It barely sucks any battery life whilst in standby no matter how poor the signal is. It's things like this that makes me crazy when switching from the iPhone. I should expect that a 3200mAH phone is going to last at least a day. I know this is different from person to person, because if you live in the city and don't commute so much, you probably don't even know of this problem.

What happens when you have both finger print scanner and iris scanner enabled, and the finger print scan fails? Do you have to do a swipe up on the screen to switch to iris scanner? Or will the iris scanner pop up automatically?

still enjoy my year of Netflix from my s7 edge it want the note but it's not an upgrade to me. I'll wait for the s8 all I want is the type c. I really am starting to feel like upgrades are not nessary anymore.

My point is, the iris scanner is indeed a great way to unlock your phone but don't use the topic of gloves to defend the feature. You will still need to take your gloves off to use the phone itself. So since I have to take my gloves off anyway, why don't I just take the gloves off before I wake phone? And then I can decide if I want to use the new iris scanner or go traditional with the fingerprint scanner or a pin?
Sure you can tweak the sensitivity of the screen to use the phone with the gloves on, but you will probably want to reset the screen sensitivity when you get home and are not using gloves.

some gloves allow for touch screen use without the need of taking them off. that's why the iris scanner is useful for this.( if you didn't know some gloves have a special type of material on the thumb and forefinger to allow usage while covered, but don't allow the use of the finger print scanner. you could say if you have that why don't you just type in a pin, but it's all for the sake of speed of unlock.)

Do you have to hit the button on the side, then slide the screen. Then it will register your iris?
With iPhone fingerprint, I just touch the home button and before my finger is off the home button, phone is unlocked.

The way your time and date appear on your Samsung display is beautiful. Is that a downloadable app or is that a feature/option with the Galaxy Note 7?
how are the speakers compared to the HTC 10 and the S7 Edge? If I put the phone on speaker can I hear whats coming through the speakers with all the car noise around me when driving with the windows up. with all the tire noise from other cars on the freeway and the sound of my car.

hdr video was mentioned for playback and not for recording. Note 7 is able to reach a brightness over 1000 nits which is a requirement for hdr content.
This phone is beautiful! It looks better than the S7 edge because it's more square, it looks more masculine IMO. This phone only costs about $60 more than the s7 edge yet you do get a lot more.
Bigger screen, more comfortable build (curved all around), Gorilla glass 5, Iris scanner, secure folder, upgraded user interface, HDR video, DOUBLE the storage, and of course the s pen and all of the features that come with it. I'd say that's a bargain.
Apple charges $100 just for a storage upgrade alone. I WANT it.

That's not even the Settings menu that will be widely available: check any other footage of it to see what I mean instead of this Verizon one (which is a reskin of the older design). And if history is any indication: AT&T will ask for its own design as well =)
Also, the thing Samsung mentioned about HDR video is about DISPLAYING IT ON THE SCREEN. HDR video recording has been there on Samsung since the GS4, and in mobile phones in general since the Xperia Z.
