    A tip to make the video easier to understand, dont change camera angles in between the stroke. Show the complete stroke from one angle then switch to another angle.

    To me this is the most intuitive stroke of all. Breathing is effortless because the upward thrust of the pull phase naturally makes your head surface to take a breath.

    Fun fact; when sprinting, breaststroke -the granny stroke- actually requires the most strenght out of all the strokes, even fly.

      Also the most demanding technique, I never really worked on it much growing up and it limited my ability in 200 & 400 medley ... As a masters swimmer I am actually faster at breastroke now. Sub 2:40 200m the last 2 years with a pb of 2:37 (25m pool) at age 41. Keeping the knees together got me from around 1:30 for 100m in the 400 medley to about 1:23 ... working on sub 1:20 to get me under 4:45.

      @orion410 2 года назад +1

      @@realalbertan I love the 100 breaststroke, it's one of the few swimming events in which I'm better than average. That being said, I can't swim the 200 breaststroke at all. I find it weirdly difficult to pace in breaststroke, like I have 3 speeds, snails pace, moderate, and all out sprint.

      I have been the same! I learnt this stroke when I was in primary school and I always got told to sort of bring my legs up together, nore like knees towards my stomach, then kick them out wide like into a circle and back. And my arms were hands together, back of hands touching, then push the water out and do a sort of circle type thing with my arms too. No wonder I've always been terrible at breast stroke 😂😂

    Timing varies slightly from swimmer to swimmer, some videos tell you that you should start the kick phase once you have fully extended the arms, some like this one show that the swimmer starts the frog kick as soon as he's done with the pull. I've been revising my breaststroke technique and trying to find the optimal timing by starting the kick earlier (like in this video) or later, still I haven't understood which is better for me. I saw videos that have slightly different timing. If you watch breaststroke champions from underwater in slow motion (there are some videos out there) they don't have the exact same timing. Maybe it's personal.

    I'm a self taught swimmer after pretty much just being left alone in the pool a lot as a child (maybe not the safest thing but I survived). So I have no idea how these techniques work. I think i will try this the next time I go to a pool.thank you

    Thanks for breaking this swimming style into logical pieces, helps a lot in understanding the mechanics of this stroke, however since focusing on my leg work and starting to push harderI have started to encounter knee pain, so I had to move to the butterfly kick to ease the pain. Do you know what may cause that or how can I prevent that? It is annoying and it actually pushes me away from the breast stroke style. Any advice would be more than welcome! Thanks!

    That video is helpful. I'm training for a sprint triathlon. I'm a crap swimmer and have been struggling putting my head under the water (fear) and can only really swim breast stroke. Today I have been doing some practice and have conquered my fear and am putting my head under. I am going to watch your video a few more times and try and perfect my stroke. I'm worse at crawl and always time my breathing wrong. At least with this stroke I know when my head is above water

      @@gtn came back to let you know this video and some instruction from an experienced triathlete (my new girlfriend is my swim and cycle coach now ) I did my triathlon Sunday. The swim was in waves. I beat the two men I started with in my lane. Managed the swim a fraction behind them, overtook one on the bike and the other on the run. This technique helped me swim using less effort. Oh and I'm booked for three more sprint triathlons this year. Keep the videos coming

    Which is more important stroke - with legs or with hands, or is it both equally? I was practicing and I found that if emphasize it on the legs, I'm faster. I wasnt diving with the head though and didn't see any instructions on how to swim breaststroke correctly.

    Thie breast stroke is one stroke I struggled with in the pass. I failed my lifeguard certification class due to not knowing it very well. Being a lifeguard was always a dream of mine. Now I avoid dreaming big due to unexpected limitations. It’s humiliating to share, but I’m sure someone has had a similar experience

    (1) Is it a good exercise of the kick when you disable your hands by hold your palms joines together on your lumbar spine? (2) does the exhale technique matter? I prefer to exhale with my mouth loose and slightly open (like in those Mach acceleration movies) but not sure if that induces more drag. I find it more relaxing though.

    • @orion410

      Try the 1 pull 3 kick drill. Do one pull then while you kick focus on keeping your hips high in the water. Also, the higher you head comes up, the harder it is to keep higher hips, so try and keep it low as best you can. But the 1 pull 3 kick drill really helped me. Also the more flexible of a lower back you have, the easier it will be.

    Hi please can you help. I have just started back on my fitness rafter the pandemic. I only do breast stroke. I feel I have an ok form/ technique. It’s the breathing for me! I hate having my head under the water so I tend to keep my head up all the time, which cause pain in my neck. I feel like that part of my swimming is ruining my breathing technique. Can you give me any tips on how to breathe better? I would he so grateful. Thanks for this video. I will defo be bringing my legs further back at the pool today.
