I find breast stroke easy and natural. I'm so bad at the others. Freestyle looks effortless when others do it but I struggle so much with breathing, timing, and hips sinking. I like this narrator and great explanations
The strongest tip that helped me with freestyle was to keep looking at the floor when the head is below water. It made me so much faster and more relaxed, in terms of breathing as well. I think it's an irony that the more you prepare your body to breathe, the less efficient you are at breathing haha
I started swimming as little as age 5 I am now 66 years old and I am still swimming, but in the ocean 😊 I always love swimming, I do every style of swimming at my age, and people are amazed and ask me how I do it, but little do they know, is that, I swim for my sciatica pains, and it works😅, I swim 5 days a week ❤
Hello, I’m happy to read that it works for the sciatic pains . I have been living with this pain for 3 months now and I have started learning swimming. How much impact do you think it has to the sciatic and for how long should I keep swimming until it completely heals ? Thanks in advance for your feedback
Keep at it, this is part of the process. I had the same problem when getting back into swimming after many years, even though I used to be pretty decent as a kid (not competitive but I was swimming maybe once or twice a week). A month ago I struggled to do a 100 free without resting, now I do 400 no problem. It's all about technique, controlling your pace and not panicking. Your lungs will also get stronger as you swim more so it will get easier.
I took notes. Ziplock bag. Took notes to pool. Practiced all 4 strokes for 1/4 mile real chopped up. Struggling with breathing and detail, but will press on. Thanks very much for tutorial. Excellent !!
@@truckstopsuperstar2451 Here is a tip that I would like to share: after practicing swimming, it is a good idea to do some stretches to help your muscles recover and prevent injuries.
I like the new coach(presenter of this channel). She speaks clear and fluid and make you feel like your personal trainer. You can tell that she knows how to teach. Very nice content from this channel.
I have trained swimming for couple of years in high school. And now, ten years later, I am planning to start again. But not in a team, nor trainer, just solo. I remember having two and a half hour summer trainings where we did 5-7km almost non-stop. Now, after 100m I have a blackout lol. But, without a doubt I will be back on track. Love the water.
I learned front crawl last year as swim newbie. Since I have no one to practice with (just me and the pool) and no coaching, I memorize what I see on RUclips and duplicate later. It was impossible at first because I had fear and no swim muscle. Once my body adapted to water, what the coaches said I could implement. I find breaststroke kick and timing easy to learn. It took me very little time to get. I do butterfly kick a few laps as warmup with hope to learn it later this year. Backstroke I can do but not well. Currently I do a couple of laps as cool down.
Started swimming last summer and haven’t looked back ever since! This video is exactly what I needed to watch. Thank you for the tips definitely will be applying these in the pool today
As a kid I was scared of water and never had a chance to learn swimming. Now, being a mom of 6yr old wanted to learn swimming at the age of 34. Learning it with my son.. I don’t know how easy it is going to be learning.. I’m pushing myself hard..
Good explanations! I made up a two combinations myself while trying to learn the Combat Side Stroke. One is "the Beluga", closest to CSS. It's three underwater (or 'dynamic apnea') breaststrokes and then a CSS-style side breath (no arms above water) but with a flutter kick. In rotate back fully horizontal with hands in prayer position before kicking out again in breaststroke (so no scizzor kick). Switch left and right breaths. It keeps you concealed longer than the standard CSS and allows for more powerful kicks. The only downside is you'll spend more energy going down again (against buyoncy) but you can gain some moments of rest while doing the underwater part as well. The other I call "the Reef stroke". It's three breaststrokes on surface level, head submerged to check out the seabed, fish etc. After the 3rd breaststroke I keep one arm stretched forward while the other does a freestyle stroke so I can breath while flutterkicking. That arm then joins the forward arm back in extended position for the next breaststroke. Switch breathing sides. This is a relaxed technique that allows a lot of time for rhe face to be underwater to check the seabed and can also be sped up easily. The fact that there's always one arm strethed forward is handy when checking near rocks or a cliff and saves energy. This video inspired me to be even more imaginative, let's see what I can think of next. I'm think a combination of dynamic apea plus butterfly breaths (for when you need to survive very rough and foamy water : hard to get your head above water to breathe with normal strokes) but I also want to do smth compeltely new, I'm thinking asymmetrical and underwater. Hmmm...
I've got a carnival tomorrow. This video has inspired me to participate like crazy! I'm a decent swimmer but some strokes definitely trip me up. But getting in that pool tomorrow will push me out of my comfort zone! this tips were very helpful :).

Then after a week of sleep and watching this video, I finally start to get it and did a few clean strokes today for the first time. Funny thing is I love butterfly but never master it. And I do swim since I was 6 ( I’m 36 now). It’s a shame I haven’t learned it properly so far, I’m doing only 3 stokes. But have to master it finally. I’m doing 4-5 times weekly swimming regularly and I miss that one stroke to make things more fun ❤

I do all four strokes. I also go back to my favourite as a kid where you swim a length but freestyle rotate back stroke rotate free style rotate back stroke etc.
I wish a I could do all 4 . Especially the butterfly. But with my LS2-3 and cervical 4-6 destroyed from Rugby, I’m only allowed the crawl and backstroke because my head and body needs to be lateral. I cannot keep raising my head with breaststroke/ frog.
I like freestyle, butterfly and breast strokes I know how to breathe in the water and it is kind of easy for me And now I am learning butterfly stroke😊😊
Glad you enjoyed the video! Some swimmers exhale underwater the entire time and then stop when they turn their head to breathe and inhale. Some swimmers exhale, hold their breath, then inhale when they turn to breathe. It's a personal preference!
I struggle with freestyle mainly because, when I move my head horizontal in the water, I feel water going far inside my ear and it is very painful. I have no idea what to do in that case, so I keep practicing the others (no horizontal head).
I naturally do something similar to breast stroke but head kept inside water until I need to breathe . And I enjoy it since it is slow and u can feel the sudden silence inside pool. Is there any name for it considered as a stroke technique ?
A couple years back I did two years of competitive swimming. I got burnt out and didn’t continue to a third year. I am debating getting back into but a little nervous. I have gotten a lot bigger. I have a pear shaped body and a bigger butt and thighs. Any tips?
Your tips on breast stroke has helped me a lot. I was so slow when I started it, but following your tips and drills...now it's the stroke I am fastest in. Thanks
I really want to learn swimming to build it as a capability and for workouts, but I see how much water intake some of these strokes involve, and become discouraged. How to overcome this?
Have been swimming breaststroke since 8 years old. I find EVA is irrelevant in breaststroke as it interrupts your momentum if you focus too much on it. Instead, try getting the head back into the water asap and work on a powerful frog kick because, unlike other strokes, you get over 80% of the speed from the kick. On the contrary, I find knowing breaststroke well does not help with freestyle one iota. Freestyle is a completely foreign language to me, and I had to learn from the beginning when I tried to swim the stroke seriously four years ago. 😞
"knowing breaststroke well does not help with freestyle one iota". Agree completely. I too have been swimming breaststroke since I was a kid. (I'm now 60 plus). I can do 60 laps breaststroke of a 25 M pool without going out of breath. But doing anything more than 6 laps freestyle is a struggle. I go seriously out of breath and run out of steam. I'm tearing (what's left of) my hair out trying to figure what I'm doing wrong. Wish someone could give me tips.
One challenging thing about practicing butterfly is also how much space you need, which is almost the whole lane. If you're just an amateur swimmer who has to squeeze in practice around work hours, you'll almost always share a lane with a number of people, good luck doing butterfly.
Learning swimming as an adult and struggling with breathing correctly, I find the back stroke the easiest for me bcz I don’t have to think too much about water, breathing , or drowning
Can you do videos on non-competitive strokes, like side stroke, elementary backstroke, dolphin kick, combat stroke, etc? I’d love to learn to swim like a lifeguard or a navy seal. 😊
Fun, in Sweden we learn breaststroke first, then backstroke (mandatory in elementary school) crawl and butterfly can be learned in our freetime. Most likely elementary school will accept either breaststroke, crawl or butterfly on "physical exam" day. But backstroke is mandatory for 50 meters. Then 150 m for any other swimstyle.
@@ElTee02 I can't find a source with the reasons, but I think because it's the easiest way of breathing and relax if you fall in water and need to wait to get help i.e. only float. Then it's good to transport yourself forward in that state. 200 m is choosen becuase by that point in most cases if you fall in water you've made it to safty or someone has saved you.
Hmm..... You said with the fly that you want to pull straight back rather than the old S shaped pull, but all of the swimmers are using the S pull. Generally the fly is taught with the S pull, and freestyle is taught to pull straight back with no S. I never could swim breast stroke unless I used a scissor kick. I am naturally pigeon toed, and my feet will not turn out enough to be able to get any power with the whip kick. My favorite stroke is the old over arm side stroke which is much faster than the breast stroke anyway.
I kick twice in breaststroke. I've swam like that for years lol. is that a wrong move? I want to get better at swimming cuz that's the only sport i love and able to do 😂
Keep up the good work! In a few months you should start to see some improvement, especially if you are incorporating drills and technique work into your swims. Stay consistent and try to get 1% better every day!

One challenging thing about practicing butterfly is also how much space you need, which is almost the whole lane. If you're just an amateur swimmer who has to squeeze in practice around work hours, you'll almost always share a lane with a number of people, good luck doing butterfly.
Thanks ❤️👍
Your a good teacher 👍
Learning swimming as an adult and struggling with breathing correctly, I find the back stroke the easiest for me bcz I don’t have to think too much about water, breathing , or drowning
Can you do videos on non-competitive strokes, like side stroke, elementary backstroke, dolphin kick, combat stroke, etc? I’d love to learn to swim like a lifeguard or a navy seal. 😊
Great suggestion!
Breaststroke is my favourite stroke I do swimming for a club
Is it too late to start advanced swimming at 15? (I already know how to swim)
Not at all! It's never too late to start - and you're still young :)
Which ones will improve my surfing? Sounds like butterfly and freestyle
Mi favorites strokes are freestyle and backstroke 🏊🏿♂️🏊🏿♂️
exhale while in water with your nose or mouth? i do it with my mouth but in video it looks like with nose?
It's sometimes a little bit of both - depends on the person :)
That's interesting :0 why the insistence on back stroke if you know?
@@ElTee02 I can't find a source with the reasons, but I think because it's the easiest way of breathing and relax if you fall in water and need to wait to get help i.e. only float. Then it's good to transport yourself forward in that state. 200 m is choosen becuase by that point in most cases if you fall in water you've made it to safty or someone has saved you.
@@WKP1996 I see, thank you!
i have a swim team tryout coming up, any tips?
Focus on technique first and foremost so you're building a proper base! We have tons of videos on technique - start with some on freestyle basics :)
Backstroke is by far my favorite, since my heart valves leak and I can breathe most easily on my back, so I have the most power. (I'm in my 60s)
Backstroke for sure!
Freestyle or front crawl. I really like butterfly it just looks
I suffering from ankylosing spondylitis is butterfly stroke is good for me
I'd like to learn the breaststroke lt looks easy and interesting 🤔
No elites use this s shaped anymore. But the 90s swimmers used to.
@@eminem565 With freestyle, yes. With the fly, no.
As a big fan of Swimming. But I'm not a big fan of the butterfly.
Splendid , Wonderful , Marvelous , Excellent ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Backstroke is my favourite stroke
defiantly freestyle👌👍 because butterfly starch is a little bit tiring😩👎
think you I have learnt all strokes
😍😄😄😄😄
I kick twice in breaststroke. I've swam like that for years lol.
is that a wrong move? I want to get better at swimming cuz that's the only sport i love and able to do 😂
Generally how much time does it take to master in freestyle, if i practice 1 hour a day , 6days a week. I know this depends on individual.
Keep up the good work! In a few months you should start to see some improvement, especially if you are incorporating drills and technique work into your swims. Stay consistent and try to get 1% better every day!
I had a comepetition today I tried to do rest stroke I did it wrong way but after that I watched people do it and next time I know how to do it!
My favorite is freestyle is the best
Great 👍 video 📸 love 😘 you
I like the butterfly
The only Jeff abs I can do for the whole minute because of 30 second break after each set
