i love a good pre-debut! i feel like part of the charm of kiss of life's debut was getting introduced/reintroduced to each of them and getting a sense of not only how they work as a unit but as well as their own individual strengths as idols. i don't think it always works however. i think the smrookie predebut videos are more difficult to watch in retrospect knowing that some of them would not go on to debut.
Definitely agree!! Kiss of Life is maybe the best predebut rollout period kpop has ever seen - the way the solos connect with the actual debut is so good
Just thinking about their debut made me think about how it's honestly pretty rare for the first ep/album for a group to be mostly individual group member's solos
JYPE kinda missed the opportunity to do something similar to KOFL when it comes to introducing the members. I don't really care about the idol aspect of K-pop, I'm literally here only for the music, so it would've been incredible for JYPE to introduce every single member in a unique way, maybe even with song covers, but I really would've loved a whole lore and well thought out storyline.
yea, i agree. another example that comes to mind is traineeA: they were building a lot of hype and so much time and energy was invested into their content and predebut, only for them to get axed with no warning. i also feel like recovering from a failed debut with lots of predebut content must be hard on trainees, not just since it's emotionally hard (all that content being online and never going anywhere, having disappointed fans, etc) but also bc they already have a pre established image which might make it harder for other companies to pick them up in the particular case of traineeA I'm surprised that jihoon was able to debut so soon after, especially in a group like TWS which the polar opposite of what traineeA was going for. I'm pinning it on him being shuffled around hybe as opposed to having to start 100% from scratch.
@@musicismyIifestylei think the only similar thing I've seen is loona's roll out, but the whole thing is so unique you basically can't compare it to anything. nmixx had a thing going with releasing covers i believe, but i dont think i would count those in this case

Yeah they kind of came out of nowhere by kpop standards, but there also wasn’t a whole lot they could do besides delay the promotional content out of consideration for the Jeju Air flight tragedy
Maybe you forgot about them. They were announced to debut as jype new boygroup more than 3 years ago throught a survival show (Loud) along with Psy's TNX
I think the position currently where this company is at I feel like they need to sit down and think about how they want to handle their groups because I feel like a lot of the groups that they have need to be taken care of concept wise or have more development to their concept. Or in general focus on how they treat their groups overall. I feel like the short song epidemic that has hit K-pop might work out for a pre-release for a debut. I think it intrigues the listeners. This worked well for bad villain in my opinion. To me when they posted those two short songs it gave me a hint of what their sound would be but also how it would look like with all the members. But it left enough mystery for me to come back and check out their debut. I think the sad part about those two short songs that they had released is the fact that if that was the snippet that was given to us but then during the debut it was revealed that there was actually more to the song and it was longer I think I would have appreciated that more but I still enjoyed what I got. But going back to my main point I feel like a short song might be very effective for a new group because it can spark talk but also foreshadow what to expect and their approach to lyricism.
JYPE artists have absolutely no issues with their concepts and they are by far the best treated groups in all of kpop, whay the absolute hell are you talking about? That little girl who the entirety of JYPE former and current idols proved automatically by everything they have EVER said and done that she is withe lying or it's exclusive to the Republix Records Management JYP USA branch with whom they share absolutely no staff. Yeah, okay. Maybe don't disregard the ENTIRE PROFESSIONAL INDUSTRY ALL OF THEIR CIRRENT AND FORMER IDOLS for the tale of one little girl and rumors. There's a SUBSTANTIAL amount of evidence proving that they sre very well treated. As for their artists direction and concepts.... what exactly is the company going to do by bot debuting the group that has been in training for upwards of 9years? HMM? You think they should just be kept in the basement because YOU and the MINORITY can't seem to grasp the fact that ALL of the groups have their OWN subsidiary type Management. The company doesn't do ANY of that. Mayne you should go butch at Hybe. You know, the company who TRULY shouldn't be debuting groups as they are the ONLY LABEL in which their groups are their own competition. Lol Now THAT is messed up. Or! Better yet! Everyone could just stop with the viral word vomit. Aka the act of hearing some ridiculous misinformation and them spreading it because they think it makes them look informed and wise. Honestly thst would be SUPER! Then again, I would also LOVE for people who aren't fans of a group to just, you know, NOT HAVE ANYTHIG to do with them and mind theirnown business, and perhaps stop telling companies how to run their business or idols how to structure their careers. Wishful thinking, I know. But it WOULD be the best day EVER!
I agree with you. I think it can be a good marketing strategy, if did well. And I hope it works for Kickflip, which I'm currently looking foward for them! The music is fun, simple, and good to hear when you want a boost of energy or just dance. The boys are very charismatic and deliver the concept of free-minded, skater boys really well. Hope they do good in the near future. That's my opnion, and great video of yours!
kickflip is under division3, I think the prerealse was a very smart move, it already got 12m views, Doug well on yt korea chart, I've seen a lot of positive reception from non fans, talking about then bringing back fun music, also I feel like people became hesitant to tune into a debut cause they don't know their style and skills (even tho 4/7 were already known), I think umm great did a great job with showcasing the members (esp the new ones) and teasing their skills but not showing off too much yet (like we know amaru has amazing vocals and kyehoons rap is insane from the survival show), like imo umm great focused more on introducing the group than having and I think they're saving like more insane skill parts for the debut (a leak of the tt has an amazing high note), also for the album I have high hopes, they have used the instrumentals as background music for their introduction videos and they sound so good already, I really hope they push the skater concept hard since that's their name
@@arijeanz I was talking about RUclips Korean chart, that one shows which RUclips videos are being watched a lot in korea each day and it was quite high for a few days
it's a nice predebut track i think! nothing offensive, though one of the visual direction for the albums _does_ remind me of riize's memories-get a guitar era. i also agree with your concern over their concept development, because it'll be a shame if they end up having an underdeveloped identity after waiting to debut for almost 3-4 years
lowkey you took the words out of my mouth! kickflip, riize, boynextdoor, they all have the same energy, the same vibes. i wouldn't say aesthetic or visual style, riize's i'd say is more luxurious and aspirational (im saying riize be looking bougie okay), while bnd is has that koz-ification going on, it's also less grounded in reality with goofy visuals like on earth, wind, and fire. kickflip is like a balance between the zaniness of bnd's style and the lux feeling of riize's.
That was so cute!! I watched your video before checking out theirs and think you nailed it on all accounts. The video was so fun and light-hearted, as you mentioned, and the final shot at the end where the center tilts a member's head the other direction made me laugh IRL. I just hate when people don't put songs on Spotify at the same time as RUclips, though! Like tf, am I really gonna put an alarm in my phone to add this to my playlist in two weeks? I guess so
I hate when jyp doesn't put pre release singles on Spotify. They did it with itzy solos and now with this group. Yeah, we just have to wait for now I think 😂
The concept development is definitely something that i worried about the most, because the fact that their name is kickflip make me thing that this group would have something to do with the skateboard culture but what can you do with that for at least 7 years yk?
i have been out of "stanning" and the idol content for a while now but this... i watched loud back in the day and this reawakened my obsession with keiju. that little dude is just too charismatic, i gotta believe he'll do big things. so for me it hit bullseye, introduced them through a nice chill song that left me wanting to see more. i really do hope they can get an identity of their own and don't just stay in this soup of current trends, but honestly i gotta admit as long as it's listenable i'll join in for the loud boys
this song is such a bop, and someone tapped into both the idol and music sides of kpop, im hyped cuz i get to interact with idol content, but also peeved cuz i spent 20 minutes looking for this song on spotify (someone's probably reposted it to soundcloud by now but me and that app arent on good terms LMAOO)
Another thing, the members have semi control over their music, so I assume when they establish themselves, they’ll have full control over their concept
As a "music-listener" kpop fan who is really into CDs and purchasing music in general, I kind of like how pre-releases serve as something of a test of patience and force us to reconcile with the instant accessibility to music that we're given in the streaming era. Though I'm sure the companies who do them don't intend them to be taken that way...
I'm a Stay that gravites to SKZs harder style music but this song just got my attention, im so surprised lol.... kinda like APT, its a simple fun song with a catchy beat. Im looking forward to the rest of Kick Flips music. With that name, i have a feeling their gonna have some bangers
i just hope that with the success of this release, they continue it with a debut that would do them justice! everyone knows their skills from loud and from umm great, but it worries me that they may end up having the nmixx predebut release issues of high expectations due to amazing pre-debut content... and being given a mid/bad debut song and having to redeem themselves (i like o.o and tank, but it wasnt friendly at all for consumers... not until dice/lmlt)
Thanks for covering this 👍 had no idea it was a pre-release. Also, if you were interested, I'd like to hear your thoughts on Xlov now that they've debuted.
Theres actually loads of content for 4/7 of the members from the survival show that they were all picked from. Their performances, individual and group and even dance practices on the official jyp channel under the name LOUD
Pre-releases are so interesting to me in kpop because in the US, pre-releases (or singles) often serve a different purpose. You usually put out singles to see the public reception and if it does poorly, the label often tells you to go back to the drawing board (or the label shelves you..). Whereas kpop, they already have it all planned out and even if it doesn't do well, they still go ahead with the original plan (unless there's some type of controversial backlash from fans). Its also that the pre-releases are set so close to the album that sometimes pre-releases fail in gathering attention like they were supposed to. So them being effective can help but I don't think some kpop companies put in effort to ensure that they are effective (either music or concept wise)
Before I watched this video I probably would have said pre-debuts are pointless, but after watching I definitely understand the point of pre-debut songs generating hype for the idols themselves and attracting more people to the variety and non-music related content. I think it's also a great way to introduce members if the company goes with a solo rollout like Loona did, or if a group comes from a survival show it's nice to have the final lineup singing whatever songs they were given before they officially debut with their brand new songs (like Izna with drip and iwaly) it gives the fans of the show something to enjoy while the group prepares for debut. with kickflip i think it's a good strategy to get their name out before their official debut since a lot of people's reactions to them so far have been "i didnt know jyp was debuting a new boy group"
Inserting My long rambling comment about Pre-Debuts and if they work comment here even though no one asked for it : What even does a successful pre debut look like, looking at the pre debuts most people would call successful or iconic but all of them are for different reasons mostly, Loona is the one I would like to start out with because this is a lot of people’s answer for their pre-debut period yielded a solo project for each of the members, sub units, grounds for the story and lore of the group, and many viral moments. It also afforded them a very large and intense fanbase from the start, so much so that going into High Hi Loona had a fandom and brand equivalent to that of a group that was in the game for 2-3 years while making there technical debut. This meant that there wasn’t a storage of resources or products for anyone you biased, this is massive and I think the blue print for many groups deciding to do a pre-release period. Then you have groups like Izna, Twice, and Enhyphen who are widely regarded to have been afforded great pre-debuts because they all came from somewhat praised survival shows that built curiosity around the groups, so much so that when Izna debuted people were generally let down because they didn’t think there was a conceptual through line from the show to concept teasers to debut title track. Then you have groups like Blackpink where maybe members such as Jennie and Rose showed up on label mates songs well before the group was announced. Then you have a gray area moment when You talk about Red Velvet’s Happiness, a song that was meant to be there Debut but flopped so bad that Yeri, a member that was between Red velvet and the group that we now know as Aespa was put into Red Velvets line up for the group to Re-debut with the Ice Cream cake Mini and Title track of the same name, but today most K-pop Stan’s say that Happiness is one of the best executed Pre debuts of time despite it preforming terribly. So what makes a bad Pre debut period, and why is it so hard for boy groups to have an iconic Pre debut period? I hope that this release can answer those questions with the entire debut project
I'm with you on going to jype if theres not a cohesive concept! we need to go in and be the new creative directors (or help the creative director if its a problem with the higher-ups)! On a serious note, I like the song, its fun. I liked the colorful outfits. Hopefully they have some longer songs in their official debut (😭). Also, I was thinking they might be under division 2 because itzy is the only other group I've seen that doesn't release their pre-release on streaming platforms? (this isn't confirmed though)
I mean at the end of damn day…..one extra mv for what would have been just an ignored b side back in the 2nd gen/3rd gen days isn’t a bad thing. Just seems like something isn’t required to talk about…it is what it is….who could hate a predebut mv
choujimi in his boy group era! I really love the UDTT song retry which is a pre debut, i don't fully understand how a pre debut is supposed to work but i like having more music i guess 😅
Dropping this pre-release so suddenly could definitely be due to the Jeju Air tragedy, but I’m wondering if there was an aim to do something akin to New Jeans’s sudden first release? Obviously their debut structure is different from Kickflip’s but there’s no doubt that NJ popping up without any previous fanfare added a lot to their initial success.
when they got announced at mama in November they posted on social media "coming soon 1.1.2025" they likely would've dropped it then it only got postponed but I don't think the order of what they would post was changed and the prerealse was planned to be the first thing nonetheless, also in nwjs case they completely dropped it out of nowhere, meanwhile kickflip was announced at mama and released diary entries weekly, so it's still somewhat different
I think they have reviewed the result of creating lot of contents during pre-debut period with NEXZ, which was not really did not resulted well. They did promotion and event a special program with m2, however NEXZ seems need take more time to get popular in Korea since there is no Korean nationality member. Let's see and support kickflip no matter what the result is
Geon feels quite Japanese as he grew up there. He wasn't fluent in Korean. I wonder if he is a permanent resident in Japan and of his citizenship status
TITLE TRACK SPOILER--- the good thing is theres a leak of them filming the mv for their tt ‘mama said’ and its the same concept and hiphop sound so im so excited for them because this seems to be working for them !!!
i'm usually pretty against pre-releases in kpop - i just think the rollout period is too short compared to non-idol release schedules so the pre-release ends up competing with the title track too much instead of having it's own moment (in my opinion) - but! i think a pre-debut track could actually work (though it'll still compete with the title) or maybe i'm just biased, 'cause i'm almost exclusively just a music fan (obviously i keep up with the community a bit by watching channels like yours, but i only keep up with non-music content from like one group), so i never watched the survival show some of the guys were on, i didn't even know JYP was debuting a new group, but i really liked Umm Great - like my interest went from 0 to 100 - and i'm really looking forward to the full project now! also, from a sales perspective, i think by dropping a pre-debut track, a new group might be able to pull more pre-orders on the album than they would've otherwise since they don't have that established fan base (though i don't know how much weight companies give to pre-orders versus regular orders. kpop fans sure make pre-order sales sound like a big deal though haha)
Also, they've also been gaining a lot of followers and interest from posting dances and song covers on their official accounts, generated interest from people who might not even know who they are.
I loved this predebut but don’t love a majority of predebuts/prereleases when they often set a tone for the album that isn’t reflected in the rest of the album. I’m excited for their “official” debut and future vibes
Humm I am going to wait to see if they delevery the self producing aspect, so pushed on the survival show at early eps in the next releases. I think that soft release groups looks to to be more cost efficient to build up moment then just a full album at the gate. We have seen it with baby monster , meoov. Pull up a new jeans spike looks to be very risk if the songs and mvs arent that attention grabing. I guess it only worked due their difference.
When i saw this group, i thought it was an SM group lol because they match the SM standards, especially the guy with that white puffer (he looks like nct sakuya). Overall, umm great isn't my cup of tea but i'm looking forward to their debut
I think a lot of groups and companies are doing pre-debuts because of NewJeans’ very successful debut strategy. Even though they debuted on July 22nd their music wasn’t on platforms until August 1st and the physical album wasn’t available until August 8th. They hit the industry with a fresh sound and unique marketing strategy in an oversaturated market I think Pre-Debuts are stupid unless the music and concept is VERY good with some sort of uniqueness in the industry but doing this to K-Pop groups that aren’t very unique in the landscape will not help them at all. You need a heavy hitter with a pre-debut because it’s the only thing anyone will know of the group until they release their remaining album tracklist. Their debut reminds me of that “oh my my” song by TWS. They’re trying to market in an area that already has heavy hitters I think there was a better song to debut with something that’d get everybody talking about the group.
as for cohesiveness, for the people who does not know their title track "mama said" is posted on youtube (a small clip) by a fan and it has a hip hop feel and the background instrumentals sound alot like "umm great" so i dont think we have to worry about their concept development too much, despite being short it gave me the impression that they have strong vocal skills similar to their seniors "NMIXX" and the the choreo is also unique i would say under my obeservation..let me know what yall think
As someone who only dabbles with "content" from kpop boy/girl groups through edits; The music keeps me the most engaged, if I like the pre-debut release and anticipate more music, my biggest concern is the debut and subsequent songs sounding very different from the pre-debut, sort of how NEXZ sounds to me. (Tho I think the circumstances here are a bit different) If I like the pre-debut sound and the group subsequently because of it and it changes ... purely on sound, the group has to over deliver to me to stay interested. (And I might not still vibe with it cause I just don't like the new sound)
idk why but after learning that this group had a survival show THREE YEARS AGO, they remind me a lot of treasure with that ridiculous hiatus before they debuted, although that situation was just a huge mess with the whole merging groups thing. having such long gaps between a survival show and a debut makes no sense to me
I feel like at this point those kpop company wants money. This concept is such a concept that NEXZ kinda did since it's a broad concept and I'm done with brother/sister group debuting less than a year in the same company... imagine if Twice, Niziu and Vcha all debuted together with 6 months of distance each like- I can't wait for Kpop to make album roll out releasing single here and there for a year and Release a whole album
Honestly i don't think nexz was supposed or at least was aiming for that sound because Ride the vibe was so chill and dreamy and then we have NALLINA that sounds totally different which im kinda disappointed and i hope they go back to their debut sound and son't aim for a "skz type" sound
@ but yet your complaining when nexz and kickflip have similar concept?😭 i know some groups have different sounds each release but if we pick twice, they explore different genres and concept but most of their sound is y2k inspired now and it's been going since i can't stop me era. Also nmixx, they have been experimenting mixpop since their debut and they stick to it aswell. I think it's important for a group to develop their sound and concept so it adds to their identity
I don't know, I was a bit disappointed by the music itself. The concept, the identity and so on look pretty good by the song is just.... so simple and average? It's just pre debut so I will watch what they pull out next, also I'm a stay and they're kinda BangChan's grandchildren so I'm gonna support hahaha
Minnie just released a banger of a song and I can't even stream it properly through youtube music, because there's no topic yet and there won't be until she releases her album weeks later. I think this is NOT good. Just release the topic.
For me, the song is so incredibly subdued. Like, they're holding back. I'm glad it's not the title track because a LOT of JYP Nation debuts have been loud. *As someone paying attention to JYP Nation debuts after Stray Kids.* So, this just makes me even more excited for the title track!
For me, personally, I found the song a touch underwhelming. Not a bad song overall, but the rhythm and melodic lines are extremely similar to TWS's predebut (7s), and it's perhaps a little too much of a synthesis of everything that's trendy at the moment. I was expecting something from JYP that didn't just aggregate current trends, but rather offered something complementary, or a little new. The boys have waited so long, I hope the debut will develop their identity. JYP remains the agency with the most stable finances right now among the big agencies, so it's a shame not to see them at the forefront of trends. They could afford to take a few more risks
@@goodvibes7913 Indeed! ^^ But I'm assuming they're not the only producers (like 3racha, who almost never produce without the assistance of in-house producers even though they're deeply involved as we all know), that they must have been greenlighted by the producers and creative directors, that the song was undoubtedly selected from a whole panel of demos produced, and that they were undoubtedly given references :)

@@run-for-roses05 oh you’ve given us a feast today, thank you
JYPE artists have absolutely no issues with their concepts and they are by far the best treated groups in all of kpop, whay the absolute hell are you talking about?
That's my opnion, and great video of yours!
kickflip is under division3, I think the prerealse was a very smart move, it already got 12m views, Doug well on yt korea chart, I've seen a lot of positive reception from non fans, talking about then bringing back fun music, also I feel like people became hesitant to tune into a debut cause they don't know their style and skills (even tho 4/7 were already known), I think umm great did a great job with showcasing the members (esp the new ones) and teasing their skills but not showing off too much yet (like we know amaru has amazing vocals and kyehoons rap is insane from the survival show), like imo umm great focused more on introducing the group than having and I think they're saving like more insane skill parts for the debut (a leak of the tt has an amazing high note), also for the album I have high hopes, they have used the instrumentals as background music for their introduction videos and they sound so good already, I really hope they push the skater concept hard since that's their name
forgive me if I'm missing something here, but how would the song be charting if it's not on streaming??
@@arijeanz I was talking about RUclips Korean chart, that one shows which RUclips videos are being watched a lot in korea each day and it was quite high for a few days
it's a nice predebut track i think! nothing offensive, though one of the visual direction for the albums _does_ remind me of riize's memories-get a guitar era. i also agree with your concern over their concept development, because it'll be a shame if they end up having an underdeveloped identity after waiting to debut for almost 3-4 years
Yeah, I was thinking they’re taking aesthetic cues from the big 5th gen boy groups, namely Riize and Boynextdoor.
lowkey you took the words out of my mouth! kickflip, riize, boynextdoor, they all have the same energy, the same vibes. i wouldn't say aesthetic or visual style, riize's i'd say is more luxurious and aspirational (im saying riize be looking bougie okay), while bnd is has that koz-ification going on, it's also less grounded in reality with goofy visuals like on earth, wind, and fire. kickflip is like a balance between the zaniness of bnd's style and the lux feeling of riize's.
KickFlip is in Division 3, the same division that handle Twice and Park Jinyoung
GluedToTheJYPBoyGroupPreDebut Jimi is back at it again with another video
Thanks for covering this 👍 had no idea it was a pre-release.
Also, if you were interested, I'd like to hear your thoughts on Xlov now that they've debuted.
A jyp group without a survival show type or a lot of content before with at least covers? Didnt expect that tbh, or did I miss that content
I believe more than half of the members are from the LOUD survival show, so it’s still technically a survival show group 😭
Theres actually loads of content for 4/7 of the members from the survival show that they were all picked from. Their performances, individual and group and even dance practices on the official jyp channel under the name LOUD
I'm so sad this song isn't on Spotify
They'll probably release it eventually with a mini album or ep
it's releasing on the 20th with the mini album
It sounds a lot like Oh my 7s by tws
Yeah definitely! The repetition parts in the choruses have a similar vibe to them
That was exactly my reaction after the first minute, and even the concept is quite similar
The chorus is superrrr catchy and bouncy I love it
The tracklist spoiler came out today and the concept does seem to be pretty cohesive for the whole album
Can u make a video on the new group called XLOV? Their music hit different in this gen. The genre is so different, idk how to explain it
Fr, to me this will always be their debut despite what others choose to call it. The word "debut" barely means anything anymore.
Also I wonder why of the years long wait, if all this time benefited the group beyound most of them finish their school duty.
They have 6 tracks in their debut album and they're under div3, twice's division
I mean at the end of damn day…..one extra mv for what would have been just an ignored b side back in the 2nd gen/3rd gen days isn’t a bad thing. Just seems like something isn’t required to talk about…it is what it is….who could hate a predebut mv
I liked the song and definitely gonna check out the debut album. But unfortunately it is not available on streaming platforms.
choujimi in his boy group era! I really love the UDTT song retry which is a pre debut, i don't fully understand how a pre debut is supposed to work but i like having more music i guess 😅
This is almost same with “Hellevator” of StrayKids concept
Dropping this pre-release so suddenly could definitely be due to the Jeju Air tragedy, but I’m wondering if there was an aim to do something akin to New Jeans’s sudden first release? Obviously their debut structure is different from Kickflip’s but there’s no doubt that NJ popping up without any previous fanfare added a lot to their initial success.
when they got announced at mama in November they posted on social media "coming soon 1.1.2025" they likely would've dropped it then it only got postponed but I don't think the order of what they would post was changed and the prerealse was planned to be the first thing nonetheless, also in nwjs case they completely dropped it out of nowhere, meanwhile kickflip was announced at mama and released diary entries weekly, so it's still somewhat different
схожесть промоушена и ньюджинс проявляется в одном случае: все песни официально доступны будут только с выходом альбома
They are under Stride (Twice and JYP)
I think they have reviewed the result of creating lot of contents during pre-debut period with NEXZ, which was not really did not resulted well. They did promotion and event a special program with m2, however NEXZ seems need take more time to get popular in Korea since there is no Korean nationality member.
Let's see and support kickflip no matter what the result is
Geon feels quite Japanese as he grew up there. He wasn't fluent in Korean. I wonder if he is a permanent resident in Japan and of his citizenship status
TITLE TRACK SPOILER---
the good thing is theres a leak of them filming the mv for their tt ‘mama said’ and its the same concept and hiphop sound so im so excited for them because this seems to be working for them !!!
and similar styling to its all cohesive
i'm usually pretty against pre-releases in kpop - i just think the rollout period is too short compared to non-idol release schedules so the pre-release ends up competing with the title track too much instead of having it's own moment (in my opinion) - but! i think a pre-debut track could actually work (though it'll still compete with the title)
or maybe i'm just biased, 'cause i'm almost exclusively just a music fan (obviously i keep up with the community a bit by watching channels like yours, but i only keep up with non-music content from like one group), so i never watched the survival show some of the guys were on, i didn't even know JYP was debuting a new group, but i really liked Umm Great - like my interest went from 0 to 100 - and i'm really looking forward to the full project now!
also, from a sales perspective, i think by dropping a pre-debut track, a new group might be able to pull more pre-orders on the album than they would've otherwise since they don't have that established fan base (though i don't know how much weight companies give to pre-orders versus regular orders. kpop fans sure make pre-order sales sound like a big deal though haha)
They hit the industry with a fresh sound and unique marketing strategy in an oversaturated market
I think Pre-Debuts are stupid unless the music and concept is VERY good with some sort of uniqueness in the industry but doing this to K-Pop groups that aren’t very unique in the landscape will not help them at all.
JYPE has been doing this for ages
Huh? Jyp himself has hinted that he'll be debuting the last loud contestants. Even back in his last performance last year, he gave a hint.
The world doesn't revolve around Nwjeans please stop bringing those bratz everywhere possible
as for cohesiveness, for the people who does not know their title track "mama said" is posted on youtube (a small clip) by a fan and it has a hip hop feel and the background instrumentals sound alot like "umm great" so i dont think we have to worry about their concept development too much, despite being short it gave me the impression that they have strong vocal skills similar to their seniors "NMIXX" and the the choreo is also unique i would say under my obeservation..let me know what yall think
(Tho I think the circumstances here are a bit different)
If I like the pre-debut sound and the group subsequently because of it and it changes ... purely on sound, the group has to over deliver to me to stay interested. (And I might not still vibe with it cause I just don't like the new sound)
idk why but after learning that this group had a survival show THREE YEARS AGO, they remind me a lot of treasure with that ridiculous hiatus before they debuted, although that situation was just a huge mess with the whole merging groups thing.
having such long gaps between a survival show and a debut makes no sense to me
Only 4 of them are from the survival show, J-loud
I feel like at this point those kpop company wants money. This concept is such a concept that NEXZ kinda did since it's a broad concept and I'm done with brother/sister group debuting less than a year in the same company... imagine if Twice, Niziu and Vcha all debuted together with 6 months of distance each like-
I can't wait for Kpop to make album roll out releasing single here and there for a year and Release a whole album
Honestly i don't think nexz was supposed or at least was aiming for that sound because Ride the vibe was so chill and dreamy and then we have NALLINA that sounds totally different which im kinda disappointed and i hope they go back to their debut sound and son't aim for a "skz type" sound
@keerfx yall need to stop framing idols into one type of sound and Concept... Jyp group are all emergent they never have a concept but loads of it
@ but yet your complaining when nexz and kickflip have similar concept?😭
i know some groups have different sounds each release but if we pick twice, they explore different genres and concept but most of their sound is y2k inspired now and it's been going since i can't stop me era.
5:25 someone say it's div3
wasn't expecting JYP to pull the SM debut during company scandal strat
Wait the group is named kickflip…. not the song?
The boys themselves are making most of their music, so it could be them trying to carve out an identity
@@goodvibes7913 Indeed! ^^
But I'm assuming they're not the only producers (like 3racha, who almost never produce without the assistance of in-house producers even though they're deeply involved as we all know), that they must have been greenlighted by the producers and creative directors, that the song was undoubtedly selected from a whole panel of demos produced, and that they were undoubtedly given references :)
Help I know this is a common problem in the Korean (and other Asian centric) industry(ies) but the members seem so? Pale? 😭 like they look sickly sometimes and it scares me LOL. I know colorism is RAMPANT but all the members seem like they’re about the same shade in a limited color palette sense )#($/$)3’ it doesn’t help that the pre-known four members were already whitewashed to death and the fact all of their images have them in a blank white background. The fact they’re also supposed to be skater-inspired doesn’t help with the unnerving feeling. Like a sanitized, repackaged version of skate culture (and I don’t even know shit about skate culture so I could just be wrong LOL)
tl;dr how clean and white everything is makes me feel unnerved for some reason
I can’t say much on there song due to the fact I’m not listening to JYP groups due to the VCHA boycotts but I wish the best for the members
Did you watch choujimi's own video about the vcha boycott? Curious?
Why are you boycotting the Korean branch?
Half information is bad lol
😂😅
