Hello. We did this today. My husband and I are not at all mechanically inclined. We used a flashlight to see the switch moving first. It's in an awkward spot. It's actually back further in the '03 Explorer. Took us about an hour tops. I'm so grateful for this video. You rock.
Awesome video!!! It's the end of November and I've been without heat for a month. We can't afford to go to a mechanic right now but my husband saw your video. You're directions are so easy to follow and it only took about 1 hour to finish. It's so great to have heat now!!! Thank you so much for sharing!
Kirk...your video saved me hundreds of dollars, the fix took me about 30 minutes total, slightly damaged hands but they're warm now! I can't over-state how great your solution is ...Thanks
Kirk,Worked perfectly your method in my 07.Everything came apart and went back in place real easy.It took me about 30 mins but I want to thank you again because I don't have the money right at this point to repair with the holidays around the corner.Maybe spring time i'll get it repaired.
Thank you so much for this video! I am now warm and toasty in my 2003 Ford Explorer. For those with short arms & fingers like me, I recommend grabbing a flashlight and a screwdriver so you can see the latch & reach it.
Thanks for your informative and helpful video tutorial on how to fix the blend door. My 2002 Mountaineer AC was cooling but not blowing through the vents. I followed your method and fixed the problem. Saved me several 100 dollars. You are awesome!
I purchased the actuator for $50. Following a demo on RUclips, I followed all the steps to remove the center console and metal brace and an air duct to get to the actuator. It helped me to also remove the panel below the steering wheel and the panel around the radio and heat/AC knobs. The actuator is quite tough to reach, but not impossible. It took me about 4 hours. Works great! I would consider myself a 5-6 out of 10 in being mechanically inclined.
I just want to thank you so much for showing me how to temporarily fixing my actuator! I did exactly what he said and now I have heat and it Pittsburgh PA is 5 degrees! I'm so proud of myself! Once again thank you thank you thank you ! If I could give a I big hug I would ! Thanks again xoxo
My actuator still worked so I wrapped a zip tie around the black plastic arm and then wired it to the actuator arm (metal).. Now it works just like new. Thanks for the video.
This worked GREAT! Did I say it worked great! This guy saved me tons of money for two Explorers. Know I hope Amazon will take back the two modules I bought to replace the bad one. Do this quick fix. replacing the module yourself is impossible, I know it took me two off days to figure this out. The second Explorer took literally 10mins to put the zip ties on and finish up
You are a lifesaver! Wisconsin was not a fun state to have intermittent in the vehicle this year and on top of that we have a newborn. I did plan on replacing the part but this allowed me to do it in the summer months. Great job!!
OMG. Very easy solution. I've had mine for 5 years no heat no air the entire time 😊 didn't drive it when it rained because of this problem no defrost because no heat no air. So hubby just bought me 2016 Explorer because I was tired of no being warm in winter no ac in the summer 😁 wow thanks for sharing. I'm gonna pass this on to hubby
thank you so much....I put up with the thumping all fall and finally I had no heat 2 days ago, gave youtube a chance and came across your video. As a student I can't afford to send this to a repair shop. I'm so excited to try this fix that I might miss the superbowl party I'm going to....better yet the money I will save will allow me to purchase a superbowl square.....You are awesome for sharing this!
You are a genius!! Of course, mine decides to start clunking right in the middle of the coldest days of the year. So, out to my unheated garage I go (-10 degrees outside) and go to work. I just had to be careful to not pry on any cold pieces of plastic...but, the whole procedure took less than an hour! So, if I can do this in -10 degree weather...there's no excuse not to get this done. Thank you so much!!
Kirk, Thanks for the quick fix to hopefully get me through the next few weeks, until it is warm enough outside to comfortably replace the actuator itself! I have small hands and that glove box was still a tight fit for my hand, but the zip tie (I used a 14" and maybe could've gone a little longer) eventually just "popped" over the door head piece and I was ecstatic! Thanks again!
Dude! Youre awesome! Im a girl and was able to do it all by myself, took me about 20 minutes. I didn't take the center part off and was still able to get the zip tie through the bottom. My husband was surprised that i fixed it with no help from him at all. Thank you!!
This was great! Glad I found the video. My wife's Explorer has been doing this and I was just about ready to make a service appt to take it in. But I followed the demo and rigged it up in less than 10 minutes--sure enough it worked and may have saved me several hundred bucks. Thanks!!
Did this on an 04 Mountaineer V6. Took a bit to locate the arm, and it is indeed a snug fit, but totally possible. I have however noticed that I cannot go full cold or full hot, just a notch above them or it keeps clicking. Not too big of an issue, least we have heat for now. Thanks for the video, it helped a lot.
If only my '07 *didn't* have a counsel shifter... nevertheless I'm glad you made this and that I saw this! I have a starting point, & it's below 0 for the last few weeks and going onward. Gonna keep digging. God bless you sir!
Thanks! Got this working today. But then the zip tie snapped. I put the project down after that, but know exactly what to do now so next time will be much quicker. Until then I'll continue to reach through the glove box which I've been leaving empty and open.
Just wanted to day great video , would be nice to see where to loop the zip tie .. I know how hard it is to see in there. Took awhile to find the door with just glove box open. Comments about replacing the motor crack me up. Thats a job ! To do it right involves a lot of time. Great temporary fix to get heat ! Thanks for posting !
Thanks a lot! I use your methods and 2 others for my 03 explorer. I used a bright neon zip tie and rubber band. I went through the glove box with the zip already looped put it around the arm took off the face that's around the radio and air control knobs look down and could see the zip tie took the rubber band through the glove box put it around the arm go back through the front stretch rubber band to a bracket. it is enough tension to let the arm go up or down.
Hi Ronald it's been years but where was the piece located in yours?..I have a 2003 Ford Explorer Xlt I tried to push a plastic piece down but it didn't budge... no thumping sound I figured the blend door was stuck .
Just wanted to say Thank you. I have a 2005 Ford explorer and I now have heat. although it is now warm when I go to the cool side and now clicks on the cool side. That will be a problem I'll deal with next summer. Its November and wont be needing it anytime soon. maybe I'll get part by then or might just have to pull the lever up instead of down.lol Thanks again
Too tha Abaters and Haterz, Tha guy said its a temporary fix!! layoff!! Thanks alot!! Saved me time and a lil money, plus i don't have to freeze till i get tha cash i need to get it fixed which means i can take my early shift again.
I am going inside to see first. I for surely will try the zip tie if needed. It's an 05 and I have already spent way too much $ in this vehicle . Thanks for your idea.
Thank you very much I just did it I hope it stays the way you showed me I thought about this couple of months ago and just happened but I never had a chance to do it when I saw your video I said wow I was thinking the same thing but let's see what happens thank you for the video nice people helping people out God bless you
I'm so late but I will like to say Thank You!!!!!! Let me tell you I know nothing about cars. After watching your video. I literary just finish fixing my heat in my 2003 Ford Explorer. I'm so very happy!!!🙌 I didn't see where to click for adds. Please me know so I can send some $$$ your way. Thanks again...
Kirk, your method works great, but I had one problem. The bottom of the flapper ear was curved so the zip tie would not stay on, so I'll just have to reach in and do it myself. But thanks for the info.. 2003 Ford Explorer..
Thank you so much, this video helped me out alot, I did the same exact thing on my explorer yesturday and I'm happy I wont have to go through the winter now with no heat.
Thank you for this pointer! It works great and I didn't even have to take the radio panel off. (because I forgot)!! On mine the ziptie will retract just by operating the controls, put to get the ziptie to extend I have to operate the controls and help it with a gentle pull. You could be a marriage counselor as I have a love-hate relationship with my vehicle. Or, more like the Apollo 11 Astronauts, engineering on the fly. Has everyone's been lasting?
you can remove the bled door actuator as well, its on the driver side easy to get to 3 screws, remove it completly and then take it apart and get the gear with the shaft out of it and slide it back into the hole it came out of on the blend door and it will turn freely but default is spring down to cold, use the tie to hold it on heat remove in spring for no air/air or drill a hole in the gear and use a stiff wire and pull it like an old choke cable to adjust temp, i cant afford to fix mine right so this worked for me, still there lol no need to fix it now cause it works fine this way, 57 dollars saved for the time being
Hello , i had this problem with a 2008 ford explorer . All you have to do instead of removing all of the console and dash is to make a cut down by your kick panel and pull it back and bang ! The actuator is behind the kick panel. it is held on by 4 small screws , you can make the cut with a grinder or dremel. You can also see the video i uploaded on my page. Thanks
I had a 2002 Ford Explorer am I stick aluminum foil on the AC fuse and it caught fire and burnt one of the wires up my heater until I still not work can I take the heater power and hook it to the stereo and disconnect my stereo to get it working for the winter
@@JasonH1337 thanks but I went on, bit the bullet and purchased a new OEM one from Ebay. I replaced it but it still wasn't blowing cold through the front vents only the rear. this works great. I hope you continue to make videos
Thanks I did this using string tied around the latch and a key chain hoop on the other side. No one wants to spend 800$ on a 11 year old car.
So what is the lever for bc I did this and mine wasn't moving and I pulled harder and the lever snapped off idk what to do

ummm the part to fix is about $50 by doing all you are doing, just removed a few more pieces &replace the actuator.
Awesome....Glad it was able to help!
