    Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! I just watched your video and completed the "costly" task myself! Went out on my lunch break and followed your guides, and fixed it! I had a little more difficulty, not sure if it's bc mine is a 2004, but there was a black manifold blocking most of it, and mine was towards the bottom more. Barely reached it with one middle finger, and had almost given up. It was 11 degrees this morning in Atlanta, needless to say, I couldn't take it any more. I had called a shop, and he quoted me about $250 , depending on how deep it was in my dashboard. lol. Well, my sir, Daddy would be proud. Thanks again!

    Thank you so much for the temporary fix. I bought the part, but just don't have the time to replace the module. It just takes me one minute to flip the lever and this HUGE!!!! Thanks again!!!!!!

    For a week my wife had to drive to work with a blanket wrapped around her lives in Chicago until I watched your video thank you heat is back on now same clicking noise

      For the clicking noise, you can try just wiggling the zip tie. Another thing to try is to move the temp dial just a little bit back from full heat (towards the cold side). Leave it on heat, but not quite all the way on the heat side. Good luck!

    I am so thankful for this video....you have no idea. I was ready to get a second job because I had to have the heat fixed in my 2004 Explorer. This video was a Godsend. I am so appreciative that I did not have to spend over $600 to have it fixed. Thank you!!

    Worked great thanks.
    For those having problems, open the glove box all the way, stick your head in there with a flashlight and you should be able to see it. When you stick your hand in there, you want to push the plastic arm away from the thing it's banging on, not towards.

      your welcome. I am in Chicago too, the cold weather has been brutal already this year! Glad you have some heat again!

    Not the button. but the lever that is moving needs to be pushed down / back to switch it to heat. One you cram your hand in there and feel it moving, the lever is easy to push back. A couple days later, after turning the car off, It went back to the open position again so I may try getting a zip tie around it and feeding it down to the floorboard so I will not have to go thru glove box and can just reach down and pull the string to switch it to heat.

    ThankYou bro so much ur video just helped me more than you can know. Its 20 degrees nd my ac is stuck on picture driving that for weeks now. Nd i decided to fix it myself nd your video showed me what to look for to switch it back to heat manually.

    You had two problems. The banging is the temperature blend door, its arm seen on the video is striking the vacuum switch that controls the heater valve that allows radiator water into the heater core in the dash.
    To fix the banging, change the temperature blend door module on the driver side of console (plenty of videos on that).
    The vacuum switch (the part with a silver button being struck by the arm) is also stuck. When temp control is on cold, the arm pushes the switch in providing vacuum to the heater valve which then closes preventing hot coolant to heater core, making cooling more efficient. The way it is now, the core will alway be hot.
    I am working on this now and can't find the vacuum switch replacement. I'm going to bypass it and install a valve to control vacuum to the heater valve.

    In response to Lance G... on MY 2002 XLT, the actuator motor is on the left side near the driver's right shinbone... I replaced it 4 years ago. Now it is stripped again and needs another replacing. I saw this post & started fishing around behind the glove box.... when I found what I thought the author must have been talking about, I pushed down on it.... and heard a loud SNAP, with a rattle.... and now I have to take apart the RIGHT hand side of the dash to fix whatever I broke. I think it is a vacuum operated piston of some sort. I think there are more than one version of setups for the heat blend doo on the 2002 model. Several spots on the internet mention a blend door on the right... but on mine the blend door is more at the bottom-middle, with the actuator motor on the left.

    Thanks for this! Some a-hole auto repair joint in town (Roppel's Preston Hwy) quoted me $1,100 for the replacement on this actuator. I specifically asked them "is there any way around this, any way to temporarily bypass this extensive repair and get the heat working again?" I was told, emphatically "no". The dash had to come all the way down, etc. So, to them I say "F YOU!" Here it is; lifehack! Took me 30 seconds to stick my hand to the left of the glove box and push the actuator lever and move it ever so slightly.... and wallah!!! I have heat again in my Explorer! Only issue I've noticed so far is the actuator tends to reset itself and begin the "knocking" sound again after I've put the SUV in reverse a couple times, in which case I have to make the physical adjustment again to get the heat working. Any idea why this happens, and any advice on a potential work-around to avoid having to constantly reset the actuator?

      Check out my other videos. I have one posted where i put a zip tie around the lever and it pokes out the dashboard so all you have to do to reset it is pull on the zip tie.

      @@kirkcolombo1922 Many thanks! I got around to trying this tonight and success. Works just as you demonstrated (mine is an '03, FYI). Now, hopefully my heater core is still in it for the long-haul. Thanks again!!!

    I have a 2002 Explorer XLT and the only thing in there is the vacumm actuator unit. There is nothing associated with the blend door or the part that you show thumping. I also notice that my thumping is more on the drivers side of the dash. How many variations did ford have for the heat/ac units?

    Thanks for the video. I am having this problem right now. I'm a little bit confused on the videos for this issue, however. On the video you can see the part moving back and forth. Is this the part you connected the zip tie to, or is it another part? Thanks, David.

    when I opened glovebox the blend door is not found and there is 2 poles or pipes in the way. I spent hours looking for bd flap, felt slight vibration and clicking sound, could not find bda. help.

    I just purchased a 05 Explorer XLT and am having the same problem but refused to take it to the mechanic and be charged out the butt! How did you fix it? Do you just press down on that button? Also have you found out what is the actual cause? Is there a part to replace? Thanks!

  • @scottbagliore8750

    But you never said to stick ur finger between the 2 clancking pieces and push away on the moving piece to get heat back on.

  • @kirkcolombo1922
    @kirkcolombo1922  11 лет назад

    The problem is the blend door actuator has a stripped out gear and needs to be replaced. The part is only about $65. But the whole dashboard and center council need to be removed to get to it for replacement. Dealer wants $800 - $1k to replace! search utube for it and you can see what has to be done. Some people actually cut some of the dashboard supports to make it easier.

      @a.m.c.s.8278 2 года назад

      Actually the blend door modulator is not the problem because I replaced mine and that clunking noise is still there. To replace the blend door modulator you don't have to take the entire dashboard out only the center floor console.

    Quick question. My symptoms sound the same but I noticed that this sound continues even when in accessory or with the heat/ac off. Is this the same problem and, if someone is kind enough to explain, why would the sound continue even with the heat/ac off and/or in accessory?

    My wife's car has a "similar" problem. The heat is good except it blows mostly to the floor and very little out the defrost up to the windshield. When I rotate the knob to change the direction of flow nothing happens to change where the air goes. When we shut off the fan by rotating the "air direction knob" (what ever it is called) to the big "O" position, we hear some noises coming from the direction of the glove box. When we put our hand on the fan housing at shutdown, we can feel the clicking and sometimes loud popping coming from the area of the housing. Any help we can get before I tear it apart and PHUK something completely up? I need to get it fixed soon or my wife is gonna get frost bite on her way to work on these cold mornings and I will end up in a funeral home for not getting it fixed for her. PLEASE HELP :(
