I remember back in the 60s I had just left school at 15 worked in a large office in Windsor, one of the senior secretary's asked me what I wanted to achieve in life. I replied to be an Air Hostess...they were so called back then...the whole office went into fits of laughter and said YOU. When I turned 19 I became one much to my surprise, back then it was quite a prestigious job. I went back to said office in my very smart uniform, same people there of course. Paraded up & down for all to see, then said must fly! The looks on their jealous faces was the best feeling ever for me!

This makes me feel quite sad. I think the bullies home in on those who are most sensitive and get a kick out of seeing a reaction. I was lucky to have a mum who was 'old school', eldest of 6 had learned a thing or two about bullies. She told us if you get hit, hit back harder. If you get name called, you pick on something that stands out about them and name call right back. Or just simply repeat the insult back to them or just agree with them, laugh at their stupidity and never let them see you're affected by them. My brother and I certainly had plenty of practice, were targeted as we were quite bright, glasses wearing and came across as swotty. But it didn't last long, when they realised they couldn't score a point. I think all kids should be taught the psychology of bullies in school, instead of which they tell them 'name calling isn't nice' and not to hit back. I disagreed with this and taught my own son the same tactics and the attempts at bullying him, also just fizzled out. My mum said her biggest lesson about bullying was when she went home in tears and my grandma told her she couldn't come in for lunch until she'd gone back and thumped the kid who threw a brick at her. Which she did and was never bothered again...it turned out that my mum had stumbled when the brick was thrown and fractured her leg so had to match back on a broken leg to sort the bully out! They built them tough in those days 😂

Slightly envious rapidly grows into insanely jealous and not at all pleasant for the one on the receiving end. Often it becomes so enjoyable to cause upset that it takes over their mind and pushes the few people still there further away from them.
