Chip - If you haven't done so already, you should check out what Bad Obsession Motorsports has done with a Mini. Name of the series is "Project Binky" ... Not that it changes out the styling much, they just do some awesome re-engineering by making it an AWD. Flippin' awesome, to say the least.

People wonder why the Mini is such a icon to us Brits - heres a clue - in 1958 John Cooper organised a race from the UK to the Italian Grand Prix at Monza between his tuned Mini and an Aston Martin DB4. The Mini won by a hour. They are fantastic little go-karts - and if Chip thinks he can put on a better wheel than the original Mag Alloy Minilites he's sadly mistaken.

    • @C.I...

Can I get a source on that?
As far as I know, the mini wasn't introduced until 1959, and John only got his hands on one after that.

@@BubbaSmurft What about doing this with a modern Mini? I think a project like this would work better as a modern Mini but with an entire body restyling to make it look classic, rather than trying to shoehorn everything into a classic Mini. Classic Mini and BMW Mini use transverse engine layout and off course FWD. This creation looks hideous. Looks like a Fiat 127 or Autobianchi.
The Mini stayed in production for over 40yrs with the basic shape unchanged. That's why is was such a good design. Build quality is another conversation.

  • @MarmiteTheDog

I don't think Chip realises quite how small a Mini is. The BMW Mini is miles bigger than the original one. Chopping the roof & big wheel simply wouldn't work. You could fit a bigger engine if the nose was extended - I have seen a Jag V12 Mini, but the nose was as long as the rest of the car!

  • @robertnicholson7733

Okay, here is one for Mr Foose. The Mini Moke! What can he do to a car that is about as minimalist as you can get. Beloved by newsagents in Australia, as there was no namby-pamby bodywork to get in the road of throwing the newspapers out of either side of the car. I will begrudgingly allow the roll bar because, like most people, I am not a complete idiot. The original Californian version was a bit deluxe. I can't believe they have made an all electric version for the US market, or more to the point, how can it pass any of the safety regs? Side impact? It doesn't have a side!

Hagerty should supply Chip with a early mini shell and a 2000 + M3 and get him to build it. I'm sure if he joined the engine and trans straight the diiff , deleting the drive shaft and narrow the suspention by about 20 inches or so , it could work. Maybe next he could fit a Hellcats drivetrain into a 1960's FIAT 500.

The Beatles, Peter Sellers, Twiggy, even our Royalty all had Mini's in the 1960's.Even Clint Eastwood has one ( a Countryman, you call them Woodies ) If you have never driven an original mini they are terrific fun , very low and with the 10inch wheels are a hoot in corners! However , if you were to drive the modern BMW minis they are a different ball game !! The new generation have over 200bhp available and top out at 130mph +. The original at best 75 bhp and 100mph downhill ! But for me much more fun ! Thanks Chip.

The M2 or M1 might be the better option for an engine / chassis swap. But I think it won't be possible either, but a Honda B15 engine will fit with a special subframe up front plus some bulk head cut and shutting done. See MCM mini /Honda swap and how fast it goes but can get expensive. The deseaming of a mini is very hard to do, because it has to be done either an 1" or 2 inches at a time by a proficient welder/ fabricator. Had minis in the family from a couple of early push button on the floor for starting. Plus a mini 1000 + 1100 Cooper box Peco exhaust. Then a 1275 GT with webasto sunroof but as rusty as feck, but was fast also. Then a mini ritz, and a mini 35. So had almost one of everything. But the ones I like are the 60s broads pee'd coupe'd cars and the mini sprint cut n shut shell. But also the rare Ogle coupe. But what's with chrome strip a third of the way up? Don't get the mods for the front or that the c pillar is too wide, the windows are closer to the rear of the car.

I only subbed to Hagerty for your videos tbh. You should make your own channel with designs and ideas, I'd watch. I just don't get people commenting about how it's this or that negatively due to purist mentality as if they don't/cannot grasp your work is for the what if and then taking it further/beyond the limits of its time or whatever it be. To make something unique. Not something that is the standard.

I like the idea. The drawing Chip has done is great apart from the rear doesn't look quite so mini like .... just my opinion 😕

Chip, I love your work. BUT seriously, you know nothing about the original mini! It’s a very small cheap run around. That came with 10” wheels, and you want to put 18”s on ha ha ha ha ha Stick to American cars. Please

Chip Foose, I would gladly donate my 94 Rover Mini for your experiment. I've been wanting to post on all of your videos asking to see what you would do with a Classic Mini as a base. I'm located in Kansas but I'll drive out to wherever you would need me to. Best part is that it's a 94 so it's not like you'd be modifying anything worth a lot of money.
