when i watch Chip draw- (especially in fast motion from the aerial camera angle), reminds me if a CNC machine- he has robotic like accuracy in that connection from his brain to his hand. You have an amazing gift and the talent and intelligence to make an amazing career out of it. i hope you are a happy person because you deserve it. your work ethic is also off the chart. nit sure if that's a blessing or a curse. ❤️🇺🇸
i'm the kind of guy that say's if it's not broke don't fix it and the 1970 Cuda is perfect in my opinion
70 cuda is holy grail perfection,
Agreed and the door handle was an innovative design at the time and still is in my opinion...flush with the body looks great. I just purchased a 73 cuda 340 slapstick 3 speed. Will be restoring it original. Love that car!! Want it to look factory but will place updated bushings...and a 2500 stall speed.
The doorhandle does look a bit too square and big for that car tho, plus i like the clean look of no handles at all, so that's one thing i'd change
Chip you are unbeleaveable my husband loves your show he watches you every time he sees when your going to be on,he said that if he ever can efford it he wants you to build him a 55 chevy belair with a post, thanks for shareing your talent with us,
Not sure if they are still around, but I'd like to hear from the Chrysler Designers to explain why they did what they did - taking into consideration that they had to do small things to differentiate the Barracuda from the Challenger. With that said, the '70 Cuda & Challenger are pretty much perfection in a pony car.
I'm going to guess the front overhang and wheelbase setup had most to do with load bearing, as moving the front axle line forward of the motor changes that dynamic a bit, and the shorter wheelbase is easier to make turn quickly, without nervous feeling quick ration steering boxes. This was before a lot of improvements in steering systems, like variable assist and ratio. The bonus for Chips alterations is that it would ride better and be less prone to have the rear try to pass the front.
SirEuchre Foose is a designer, not an engineer. Everything he does is for aesthetic purposes. Most serious Hot Rod Designers hate the long front overhang that cars from the 60’s and 70’s had. So if they can move the wheels forward and increase the fender length from the door jamb to the rear of the front wheel well, they’ll do it. Ring Bro’s. did the same thing with their Prestone Javelin.
These episodes are GOLD! I hope there is more to come.
This is why he is so good at what he does. Little things nobody would have ever took into mind.
Can't get enough of Chip Foose discussing design.
I love everything foose but the 1970 cuda is perfect in my eyes ....
its one of very few if not the best looking car of all time,i would sell my soul for a lemon twist 1970 aar cuda.its the #1 car for me,i always wanted one since i got driven to Sunday school at 5 years old in 1970 in a 70 aar cuda in lemon twist(brand spanking new 340 six pack 4 speed).i also ,loved the snake and the mongoose (cuda and demon)and had both hot wheels cars.being a kid i of course destroyed them with hours of play in the sand box and now if i still had them the pair is worth maybe $5000(for 2 hot wheels cars, lol)
Oof! That was extremely subtle. Love when Chip Foose breaks out an instant classic with his trusty Quality Inn ball point. 😁
Thanks Hagerty, learning so much about the nuances of car design and modification from the legendary Chip Foose.
I love how Chip a few times says, "it was really simple." :) Like us mere mortals would have a clue!! Love your designs Mr. Foose!!!
Dang, I have stayed in every quality in from Indiana to California. I have stole multiple pens. I still haven't found one that draws like Chip's quality in pen :)
I made a Cuda sketch too, it looked like the door handle.
Chip,
This is my first time commenting on anything you've created and/or improved. I just want to say I really appreciate the way you presented your ideas and the end results to this 'Cuda. Actually, I haven't seen anything you've done in a bad light. Thanks for all you do and especially for sharing everything with us. Greetings from Flint, Michigan.
Your vision is incredible and your skills are unbelievable
I think Foose is an absolute artist, but I would never let him change the subtle body lines on my vintage muscle cars. Never
What if a modern chassis, suspension, and even more muscle came with it?
@@robertbeirne9813 Absolutely not. But I would not mind upgrading suspension, maybe even having a different chassis. But absolutely nothing permanent to body lines.
Just D. I can agree with you on body lines, but I think all the cars, where they they tuck in those big old bumpers, always an improvement.
@@robertbeirne9813 thats true. Bumpers, hoods, etc,- Im fine with since those things can be replaced on the car.
His sketches are unreal how he does it so quickly and so perfectly.
This is the good stuff!!!
Real transportation design geek stuff!!!
Please do more stock design critiques Chip. 🙏
I second that! ☮️
Amazing, Chip does for a living what I used to do when I was 14 in study hall. Just better. LOL
70 cuda best looking muscle car ever made!
I have to disagree. 68 charger. Love the round taillights and blacked out grill
I have similar thoughts about my 1990 Z32 300ZX 2+2. Small change to address some proportional issues. Thanks for all the years of inspiration!
Had a 72 440 cu ins Cuda for a while in the UK, apparently 2 imported in the early 70’s loved the car! Shark grill, air scoops, the lot!
My gosh - what a talent for rendering a car freehand! With a ball-point pen no less. Remarkable.
The Challenger's roof line is to curved all the way around and looks perfect Mr. Foose.
Chip you are the best and no one can beat you and your team when it.comes to putting a car together or building one.
I had a 70 Cuda. I never saw another like it. It was beige in color had a darker brown vinyl top, spoke hubcaps a luggage rack on trunk, duel non functioning hood scoop, turning signal indicators on fenders a black stripe along both sides w/383 at the end. It had 5 speaker am/fm sound system a slap stick trans and a 383 super commando motor, 4bbl carb, duel exaust, electric windows and by pulling door handle courtesy lights on the dash and key slot. Oh yea and fog lights. I bought it used with 70k miles on it.
I'm really liking these tutorials! They help us 'think' and 'see' cars differently.
I love the soft changes to the Cuda. Beautiful car before and after. Keep it up Chip.
The man is a genius.i love this man’s work.his attention to detail is second to none.
There is a reason that the Germans build cars that just “look right”. Chip gives us the reasons why. The eye likes it when symmetry and harmony are in line. Thanks Chip
there are lots of horrid looking or boring looking german cars, they certainly aren't all perfect.granted there are some absolute perfect examples 911 gullwing benz amg anything
I would love to see this same thing done with a ‘65 Ford Falcon . That body is so beautiful to me . Totally underrated car imo .
Things I never noticed but that’s Mr Foose for you. My main concern for this my all time favorite muscle car is that I prefer the front grille on the ‘71 but the tail lights of the ‘70.
Agreed thats how i built my 74 cuda clone of a 70/71 cuda
@@musclecargarage8882 Ha ! Wow ! That's what I did to my 73 Cuda...71 grille and headlights, 71 gill fenders, and 70 taillights. 🤘
I have a thing for 64 Valiant 2 door hardtops, but want to see him do a different approach to the headlights.
Thanks for giving us another one of these videos, they’re great
Chip, I would love to see you draw your version of a pro touring 1971 Camaro. Great work as always. Looking forward to the next one.
This guy is an artist
i completely agree with foose design
Interesting to see Foose's thought process.
Hell GUYS this should be out in a new version especially with all these REVAMPS that are out there these days GREAT WORK Chip your TOP in the field as far as i am concerned
I'll take my 71 Cuda just as it was, thank you.
What about the cuda you built in conjunction with troy trepannier, for josh rogan, and all the issues he had with it?
Joe Rogans Cuda by Foose
BEST MUSCLE CAR EVER
Wow with this one
Chip, you have such a gift for automotive styling. Why aren't you designing new models for auto manufacturers?
Foose draws so well.
Simplemente me encanta cuando dibuja!!!
Chip...I feel your dream...but I would never get close of owning something this special. If you ever want to give one away...look this way!
I really enjoy my Barracudas, mine are 2nd generation. MAC tools has a special edition Terracuda orange large tool cart. Even though the Terracuda is the 3rd gen cuda, i bought the box anyway.
The Metropoulos Brothers Cuda looks stunning. Did you make a video of that? I couldn't find anything on here. Found your stills on your site.
Chip is a genius! Keep up the redesigns. :-)
Hey Chip, I couldn't help but notice the cool looking Strat guitar you have sitting on the shelf behind you. What can you tell me about it and would you sell it? I've been a fan of yours for years and my 2 passions are cars and guitars.
Awesome changes. Subtle but important.
The Quality Inn pen is either going to run out of ink soon, or he’s got a drawer full of them...
Exactly Chip! Now can you redesign the rest of the Plymouth/Dodges from the sixties, seventies and eighties ?
Chip Foose the legend love this guy he's a genius with cars ✌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I can watch him talking about desine fails all day long
"Design"
Foose everything you do is awesome. I have one for you. Nobody seems to like the 1972 roadrunner. I have one would love to see what you can come up with. It wasn't very poplar in the 70's I had a 71. Now I have a 72 would love to see what a pro could do with the style.
Great vid Chipper. Thanks for the content.
Come back with a new series !! 😭😭
Great skills and great design ideas, Chip your a great visionary!
Awesome work chip I loved you program, and i love your work i,i,ve done a couple of model cars of the foose collection like the 1967 dodge coronet and 2013 dodge challenger I lovem id love to see you do a drawing of a 1970 Camaro and work on one I love your talent and your work keep kicking butt in the Auto world chip. Signed David Reeves
The 69-72 Grand Prix had some outside good looking door handles...
The 70 Cuda doesn`t need to be "tweaked" it`s just fine the way it was made. I had at one time a 70 AAR Cuda, wish now that I ever sold it, I keep hearing that old saying "If I knew then what I know now."
Nope the 70 Cuda' is perfect as it was designed. I miss my 70 440+6 4 speed Cuda'
I still have mine.
Got it in ‘83. Same drivetrain. 4.10 Dana, Vitamin C w/ black interior no vinyl top.
The Cuda was an updated version of the 67-69 Chevy Camaro design. I think they added the sharp angle to the drip rail to sorta mask that fact. The little changes you made were great Chip.
Nah, don't think so.
@@markwatkins5416 I've done paint jobs on both. When you've got all the trim, grille, and bumpers off of a Cuda everyone that walks in asks ''What year is that Camaro?" There's a reason for that.
I like the round tail lights
Chip. You are a genius
Funny how he doesnt mention the on he built for joe Rogan where the body fell off the frame. Still love foose. He is one of the best in his trade. I just thought he would mention it. It was featured on the old show rides. "Sick fish" it was called.
love his work
Hey Chip, E body cudas are cool and all but everyone builds them. It's a common mopar build. What do you think about an A body rendering? 67-69 barracuda and have your choice of notchback or fastback. Maybe both.
このおじさんお絵かきがとてもお上手ですな。
A True Master at work
I'd like to hear his thoughts on the 1970 Plymouth Fury 2-door
👍
The bumper on the 70 cuda were really nice...
Very cool
The Master at work...
I'm with ya Chip.
Please do an episode on the Pontiac Aztec, Chip!
Please keep these comin
Would be interested in seeing your tweaks for the Toyota FJ Cruiser

What are the art supplies that you use and where can I get some
The GOAT of his era!
Master Craftsman. Foose Cool.
And you talk about something that's "out of place" or " that doesn't belong"? Well the first problem I see that you have is putting these HUGE oversized rims on all of your cars that "Don't Belong" and look very "out of place"!!! So take your own advise!!!!
Eye of the beholder. He said it looked out of place for him, doesn't mean it looks out of place for everybody. Plus, like all design, not everybody will like it. I'm not super crazy for the oversized wheels either but that doesn't mean I would turn down a Foose Design.
Excellent
Hey Chip, what's your take on the new challenger design?
Boy you explained that well, many thanks. bear
At least Chip did not do one of his hideous two tone paint jobs on the 1970 Plymouth Cuda !
i agree, the two tone paint scheme makes cars look instantly dated
@@bobbowie9350 Spot on!
Yes he did
Some 2 tones can be perfect on some cars
Others can ruin it, in this case 2 tones don't go on Cudas
@@jacobleech3136 Spot on !
this man is design genius , i miss overhaulin
When a guy like CF and his resources admits” I’d never be able to spend that kind of money for myself” .... that tells you all you need to know about the real costs of these works of art.
One thing l will say , is you drew the rear wheel too far forwards Chip ......,lit looks like an altered wheel Gasser 😕..... 😄
Ever since my 1st ride in my uncle's 70 Cuda I have been in love with that car and would give my left nut to own one. One that needs some work done and I could take my spare time fixing. But, if Chip wanted to fix a few things, no way in my right mind would I say, "no". If it looks better and drives better moving the front wheels forward 2", please do. After its all said and done, it still and always will be a 70 Cuda. MOPAR or NO CAR!!!!
I'll give him the door handle, but long front overhang? I don't see it. And I'd have to say the sharp roof angle is a draw. The angular rather than rounded roof/window line is an old Mopar tradition that goes way back and was present on many of their. models. Personally, I like it. I think it provides a good contrast to the rounded roof line. Sometimes differing "stylings' bring out the best in each other.
can we see Chip Foose draw a MK2 Supra or MK4, a 240Z, an R32 Skyline?
Very nice details.
After watching Overhaulin' for so many years, there's only one thing that you can count on with Chip Foose. If anything needs changing on any car is that it needs a two-tone paint job! Every episode, it seems, I say to my wife, "I hope he doesn't do a two-tone paint job on that thing" and sure enough, he paints a two-tone! I'm not saying two-tone is bad but, certain cars demand a solid color and two-toning everything gets a little boring. Mopar muscle is a perfect example. Challengers, Cuda's and Chargers really need to be a solid color so as not to distract from the beauty of their body lines! If you want to make it original then find an off-the-wall color but, please stop with the two-tone!!!
I have a 64 Thunderbird I have owned for 46 years and is still mostly original. What could Chip Foose do to a 64 Bird?
Ruin it
@@ChuckTeStA97 with some tri color paint scheme
Put 22” rims on it.
I'd love to see what he'd do for my '89 Starion ESIR....
I could watch Chip draw a toaster.
So you turned the Cuda into a Duster?
The brown one is beautiful but the stripe doesn’t go. It’s too clean of a car for that.
Sorry dude... it’s perfect.
The perfect ‘67 to ‘69 Camaro.
This guy, Foose, is a modern day genius. Da Vinci look out.
Foose he is the best!!! No doubt
