Fun fact in the original novel of Ready Player One Mechagodzilla fights Ultraman but due to legal issues Ultraman was replaced with Iron Giant.
Wasn't that also why the gundum had a time limit in the movie?
@@alexthehuntedhonestly I don’t mind cause those scenes with the RX-78-2 gundam and the music was freaking awesome!!! I still get chills and admittedly teared up a bit, though that’s probably cause I utterly love gundam.
I still go with the Showa Era Mechagodzilla - not only because it was the first and therefore the one that was the most influential across nearly half a century now, but also that retro punk look that makes him like the giant knight that medieval Europeans wish they had to kill dragons. And he is still pretty intimidating without even having to be augmented with weapons or using the leftovers of previous kaiju.
He has such a great steampunk-esque design, and while he's limited in his mobility, it works for HIM because he's supposed to be evil. His sharp, stiff movements call to mind some iconic monsters like Frankenstein's Monster and evil machines like Terminator (yes, I'm aware Terminator came out much later.) The Heisei one was also very limited, but with it being intended as a weapon of humanity, the limited mobility only made it look clunky.
I definitely feel that Showa Mechagodzilla is the best. Not only because I grew up on it, but he also had one of the nuttiest entries where he not only faked being godzilla, but broke anguirise's jaw as well and even beat godzilla in their first encounter. It only got crazier from there and definitely left more of an impression on me than the manmade godzilla killers the later series made (though Kiryu is quite dope)

Actually the 1954 soul in Kiryu is important but it’s not explained through dialogue. If you notice whenever Kiryu starts to get the upper hand and suddenly stops, you see those stripes down his eyes, they’re actually “tears” and they light up showing that the 1954 Godzilla takes control from time to time foiling the plans. It was actually really interesting finding this out and giving that movie a watch. Definitely changes how I viewed it the first time.
The 90s Mecha godzilla looks like a friendly dog. I want to pet it

I like Monsterverse MG the most because of how brutal he was. He was probably the most aggressive out of all the MGs (probably because it was King Ghidorah trying to get revenge).
That motherfucker was SCARY. Loved it lol- I actually wasn't really a fan of the ghidorah bit, though. The original godzilla movie was a warning against nuclear weapons, and I feel like mechag is a prime candidate to focus on the next hurtle of the human race: artificial intelligence. I'd have preferred to see a mechag that, thematically, represented man's ego in trying to contend with nature, but that's just my take

Kiryu literally dug into Godzilla with no remorse. Dragged hum around and absolutely mutilated him. In my honest opinion, Kiryu was the most brutal.

I agree about MechaGodzilla 3 or kiryu being best because I love him and also the fact he uses the Skeleton of the 1954 Godzilla
4:05 not sure if the aliens' intent on MG's disguise was ever made clear in any external media by Toho, but my head-canon was always that the aliens wanted to soften up Earth's defenses (military and other Kaiju) before the full invasion force showed up. However in order to keep their alien presence hidden for as long as necessary, they disguised MechaGodzilla, the tip of the spear of their invading forces as a native monster that humanity at this point is unsurprised to see attacking a populated area, Godzilla. However they didn't seem to expect that the actual Godzilla would be made aware of MechaGodzilla's presence so soon.

I think they wanted to have MG run away and disapear so the millitry would attack godzilla and weaken him and themselves before the aliens even invaded
6:15 They did that concept in the manga adaptation of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II where its programming was overwritten by Mecha-King Ghidorah's initial program.
I agree. Kiryu, and the original Mechagodzilla. Kiryu is the best. The original has my heart, for he is the reason I became endeared to the Godzilla franchise. It was the first Godzilla movie I saw on the large screen.
Mg 2 will always be my favorite. Kiryu and Legendary's version are also fantastic

I actually love the Monsterverse Mechagodzilla the most! That boxy utilitarian look is extremely unique, perfectly indicative of a design that pays no mind to maintaining aesthetic quality in favour of pure function. This is a Mechagodzilla designed to completely clobber Godzilla in melee combat, to have all his strengths and none of his weaknesses. Greater reach, greater mobility, greater flexibility, greater crowd control, and the perks of being a machine with unlimited stamina.
Yeahhh you're wrong about legendary Mecha-Goji possibly winning, the novel of the movie explicitly said that Godzilla was only around 40% of his power when he fought Kong in the city, by the time he fought Mecha-Goji he was pretty much out of energy and passing out. The entirety of the movie Goji is looking for the cause of his bad feeling and killing other kaiju off screen. Godzilla is basically fighting Mecha-Goji after working a double overtime shift and getting into a fist fight right after
3 minor complaints
1. MG 2021 wasn't the first to use his tail for offense as Kiryu did in Tokyo SOS
2. MG 2021 was confirmed by the director himself to only be able to take on Godzilla because he was tired
3. Godzilla from the Kiryu saga is meant to be the same one from the millenium/megaguirus dualogy, but was made to be a bit vague so audiences could determine if it was a sequel or not so he's meant to be that strong.
Kiryu will always be my favorite Mechagodzilla. Not just as a design but as a character as a whole, cause he’s way more complex than just being the spirit of 1954 goji possessing a mecha.
I’m with you for the design on MV Mechagodzilla. It does not look good, it looks more like a Jager from Pacific Rim. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just not Mechagodzilla to me
Side note, the ghidorah brain thing I think was super similar to Kiriyu with godzillas skeleton affecting his brain

Kiryu is definitely the best! Also I 100% agree with everything you said about the G vs K MechaGodzilla I absolutely HATED the design. I get it was supposed to be a skeleton (like the Terminator) but I feel that was just a bad idea.

Personally I’d would have Legendary’s MG at the very bottom, so you gave him some relief.
Kiryu is the only Mechagodzilla who was not destroyed in the end and that is why his my favorite Mechagodzilla.

Legendary Mecha was also over charged at the moment, so not sure how long until that ran down. Overcharged Mecha legendary and atomic pulse Legendary G from KotM finally would be a good fight to see possibly, or maybe a replay of what happened. Hard to tell.
Base Godzilla from 2019 would destroy Mechagodzilla. It was confirmed that Godzilla was extremely tired from fighting Kong, and that he could've handled Mechagodzilla on his own, but also, in the comics, it's confirmed that 2021 Godzilla was literally starving.

Kiryu (specifically SoS) will always be my favorite MG. But I do love the monsterverse version a ton and I know it unpopular, but I like the design on the Anime MG, wish we could've actually seen it do something. Can't wait to see what the singular point MG is like

Monsterverse Mecha looks like a Mammoth cube on steroids.
It's head is so bad that Kong even had to insult it's Roblox looking face.
The rest of the body is good though.

For me, Fake Godzilla (MechaGodzilla dressed up as Godzilla with a different face and head but similar body design) will always be a fun concept. I guess.
Heisei will be the best for me since he was the only one who killed godzilla instead of nearly killing him and hes one of the strongest and sleek looking and plus.....he can fly :> and combined with garuda he can literally low diff every mechagoji and when base then probs mid diff every mechagoji so yea heisei will always be my favorite

The manga adaptation of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II had Mecha-King Ghidorah's mind and programming take over Mechagodzilla during the ending battle, and it pummels and blasts Godzilla so viciously it nearly beheads him.

I really, *really* don't like all the exposed tubing and wiring on Kiryu. It just screams "pull here to disable". Mechagodzilla II was a smart design choice that kept everything properly covered since you know, you don't want your internals getting hit by an atomic breath...
You know Kiryu did tank Godzilla's atomic breath to the neck and face area, which is the same area his exposed wires are. They're probably just as durable as his actual body.
Mechagodzilla is my favorite thing to see getting adapted because it always means they go all out to create a wild assortment of weapons for it
Showa Era is always my favorite.
Still love Anime MG and the concept of city that fights Godzilla back

1- Mechagodzilla 1993
( The design is perfection, problably the best designed kaiju ever, the abilities are also the best since he is makes almost everything that Godzilla can do useless and his concept is also awesome! )
2- Mechagodzilla 2021
( His design is pretty cool, he looks very creepy, he is very good at combat and overall i liked it a lot )
3- Mechagodzilla 2002-2002
( Kind of overrated in my point of view, but has an interesting concept and a good design, but not as cool as people make him up to be, and also he is very weak, since he gets almost killed every time Godzilla uses his breath )
4- Mechagodzilla 1974-1975
( Has an alright design, but looks noticibly inferior in comparision to most of the others, but he has the second best arsenal and has the coolest origin )
5- RP1 Mechagodzilla
( He has an OK design, but i didn't find it that impressive and is defnetly the weakest Kaiju i have ever seen since he dies by a handgun )
6- Anime Mechagodzilla
( If he wans't a city, he would be at the second best Mechagodzilla design for me )

When I saw the Monsterverse MechaG I hated it, but seeing it in the movie, how it moved, and it's abilities, the design then made total sense to me and I liked it. But for me I was raised with Showa, I didn't see Heisei until I was a teenager, and Millennium was a big disappointment for me overall. It pretty-much reflects my ranking.

My favorite Mechagodzilla is Kiryu but I love the Tokyo S.O.S version because the blue railguns and the blue missile unit was off with an all silver robot. The silver railguns and silver back unit and a gun metal finish made Kiryu more cool and more awesomer
That wasn't Tokyo S.O.S. You're referencing 2002 "Godzilla against MechaGodzilla" Kiryu.
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla is basically Godzilla vs Robocop. I love both, Kiryu is totally totally is Robocop. Much like how King Kong vs Godzilla was a King Kong film and a Godzilla film meshed together, it's the same with Against MechaG. Kiryu is just the Robocop of Kaijus and I'm surprised that isn't more of of thing.

Out all the versions of MechaGodzilla, my personal favourite will always be Type-3 Kiryu from Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla & Godzilla Tokyo SOS but my second favourite would have to be MechaGodzilla from Godzilla vs Kong 2021

I’m pretty sure Kiryu was the first MechaGodzilla to use a tail attack. Not American MechaGodzilla.

The anime one looks really cool, but it is inconsistent with it's weapons and lore. If it was hyper advanced and made by aliens, the design would fit a lot more.
Honestly, og mecha godzilla from terror of mecha godzilla is the best one. It's the only one that actually fixed one of It's weaknesses.
Tbh I see mg21 like the opposite of the first mechagodzilla, mg21 doesn't have an dozen beams, missiles, and other stuff for long range, mg21 was meant to overwhelm g21 with his fist, using his longer arms to grab the big G and throw him at buildings or to punch the hifl out of, especially with his jets on his back to dodge him charging or to close the distance like he did in the movie

Ive always said, MV has some great monster designs, but they rarely work with the character they are suppose to be. While I admit, Rodan, Ghidorah and Kong all work, I don’t feel that Mothra, Godzilla and M-GZ work, not to say their bad, but they don’t FEEL like they are support to be Mothra, Godzilla and mecha

Legendary MG looks boxy I think because they tried to remove godzillas flaws to make it better, like longer arms and less fat that prevented more movement

Apparently a friend of mine stated that Kiryu used his tail, but I’m not sure if this is 100% correct as the clips I’ve seen so far only show it used hand-to-hand combat and everything else besides its tail, also a clip shown of MechaGodzilla in Ready Player One showed it using its tail on a car

Here’s my ranking. In all fairness number 5 and down are all great and I love all of them. Number 6 and 7 are either, too spiky or debatably a Mecha G in the first place.
