It is the busiest airport in the country, the 10th busiest airport in Europe and the world's 49th-busiest airport with over 29,3 million passengers served in 2022. It covers an area of 16 square kilometres (6.2 sq mi). Together with Ciampino Airport, it forms the Rome airport system with 32.8 million passengers in 2022, the second airport system in Italy by the number of passengers.
