That's very normal. I am not sure what is concerning about that. Most teenagers value their parents approval only second to their peers acceptance. And in this situation that force was so strong it forced her to kill her own child to keep her parents approval. Because remember... she is still a child and children want their parents approval.

People keep saying she “threw her baby away” but she took a living newborn baby boy, wrapped him tightly in a plastic trash bag, twisted it shut right, buried him under another bag of trash, and left him to suffocate to death.
She didn’t just throw him away, she murdered him. IN A HOSPITAL where she could have just given him to a nurse and he would have been safe and helped. She could have been anonymous.

    • @Kristine_202

I don't like to compare trauma. I've been through trauma and my trauma is valid, but if you asked my honest opinion, I would say that what this cleaning lady has been through is so much worse than what I've been through. Something happened to me at age 14 and I developed PTSD from it. I don't want to give away how old I am (I'm old, LOL) but after all of these years, certain things still trigger me. One of them is a certain song and I heard it while grocery shopping and had a full blown panic attack. That was only about a year ago. Decades have passed and I'm still being triggered by things.
I just pray that this woman gets the help she needs. I know money won't fix anything, but if she had a GoFundMe, I would absolutely donate to it. Therapy can be expensive, so maybe it would help with that. I work in healthcare myself and I actually have pretty crappy insurance. You'd think that healthcare workers would have good insurance, but that's not necessarily true. Hopefully whatever treatment she needs is fully covered.
Or she could use the money to go on a trip somewhere. Nothing is going to fix what she's been through, but maybe taking a dream vacation would at least help her relax for a little bit. This case is ongoing, so it's not over for her yet. (In reality, it will never be over for her.) She's still going to have to relive this when it goes to trial. I have a feeling that they'll end up showing her horrible pictures of the bathroom and the trash can and even the baby. They'll ask her things like, "Is this what he looked like when you found him?" My God! It's so horrifying. She's going to be traumatized all over again.

@@Kristine_202 You expressed and painted the picture so clearly. Absolutely on point. This was a horrific thing to see and experience. The cleaning lady had already gone through a trauma the year before when her male partner took his life. That was an event she was carrying every day of her life. She was asked if she would be okay taking this job because of the way her partner died. She said yes. I am guessing she took the position because the salary was good and she would be busy and around other people which would keep her mind occupied. No way did she ever imagine she would encounter what did.
I too want for her to get therapy before, during, and after the trial, if there is one because every trash can n that hospital is a trigger for her. And the added trauma is that the grandmothers are yet to shed a tear for their grandson from what I have observed.

Thing is, by right, Alexee didn’t need to have her mom in the room with her. They could have easily asked her to leave to give her some privacy.
It’s super common for teens to be afraid to admit in front of their parents that they are sexually active. Healthcare workers know this. The staff had a big suspicion she was pregnant, and when the pregnancy test came back positive, if they had kicked Rosa out and talked to Alexee about her options (including leaving the baby for adoption without anyone knowing), she might not have felt the need to kill Baby Doe in the first place.
They knew Rosa was most likely a strict parent judging by how adamant the two of them were that Alexee was a virgin. They knew there would be serious repercussions for her if Rosa knew the truth. It baffles me how they thought putting the patient in an unnecessarily stressful and potentially dangerous/traumatic situation (that could've been 100% avoided!!!) is "acting in the patient's best interests".
I don’t think the doctor and nurses were the bad guys here, they were trying to help. But it is nevertheless a serious oversight on their part.

It shows an adamant no admission of guilt. But that is what the legal system has come to. Many things in legal proceedings don't make any sense to people with any level of ability to feel compassion. From what I've heard, the hospital is most likely at no fault, and will be found as such. Even the toxicology report with painkillers administered shows no wrong doing. But who knows. I had my first kid at 19, just shy of 20. Almost the same as you and at the same age as the girl in the video.
I was independent and living with my then boyfriend ( now husband) which obviously made it easier than for this teen but I still come from a highly religious family and we were "living in sin".
So, I knew it would be bad for my kid and myself.
The pregnancy was literally at one of the worst time possible in my life when we were getting ready to move to another country and I was definetely not financially ready for being a mother.
Then to top this all of I only discovered the pregnancy at almost 14 weeks bc I had heavy bleeding that I mistook for normal period. So it ended up being considered a high risk pregnancy where me and my baby were both at risk at some points.
The pregnancy news hit me like a rock. I immediately thought that I would end up alone bc I assumed my bf would leave me ( he never showed any inclination for that it was just my panicking brain), that my religious family wouldn't help us ever and then after digesting that news I had to deal with a high risk pregnancy. Me not following the instructions would've meant almost a certain late term abortion. The idea of doing it in purpose never even crossed my mind.
So, given the months bedridden at the hospital and at home and the fear of losing my kid that gripped me since the beginning that had me follow every single thing by the book... I just cannot understand this teen at all.
It does appear like she's afraid of the mother though and I obviously don't know if she had some mental breakdown to end up doing that...

I've been a housekeeper for 4 years at a hospital and work specifically in the labor & delivery and neonatal units. We are trained to throw out and wipe down EVERYTHING in areas with heavy biohazard, and we are constantly trashing out waste, linen, and contaminated products in our areas. With this, you get used to the different weights of filled waste bags and can sometimes clock out what makes them heavy. However, if a bag is oddly heavy, we can check to see if something important may have been accidently thrown away.
So, I commend Leela for her thoroughness, and I wish her and the rest of the hospital staff the best in getting through this tragedy.

lets take a moment to acknowledge the fact that her issues with her mom are issues. not necessarily the cause. the only person you can control is yourself.
now on a totally different note, she stuck her child in a trash can, and referred to the baby multiple times as 'it'. her way of brushing it off and making it seem like the situation isn't as bad as it is, (which is a manipulation tactic) and trying to drive the point home 'it wasn't crying or breathing'. ok as it stands that may be true, but you still put him in a fucking trash can. just like those nurses said, she knew perfectly well what she was doing was wrong. the fact that her mother was also referring to the baby as 'it' but also scolding her daughter was weird to me too. i do think however that it was weird how she was scolding her daughter for not telling her that she was pregnant, but not scolding her for putting him in a trash can.
as it stands, (and scream at me all you want for this) trauma is not a valid excuse, or a excuse in general, to put your child in a trashcan. period. i know plenty of people who are traumatized, and they would still have the sense to not put their babies in a trashcan. if she had come out of the bathroom, and handed it to someone, they would have still chalked it up to just a mis carriage.

There has been an update that pertains to what you were talking about near the end: They released the baby's toxicology report and he had a tiny (insignificant) amount of morphine in his system. I'm sure the defense will try to twist it and say that's what killed him, since they're blaming the hospital for everything, but it was literally nanograms worth of morphine.
However, he also had nanograms of phentermine in his system, and the hospital did not give that to Alexee. So what that proves is that she actually was on diet pills, but not just any diet pills, prescription diet pills that are a controlled substance because they are in the amphetamine family, and are contraindicated in pregnant women.
That finding has caused SO many additional questions. Where did she get them? No ethical doctor would prescribe them to a woman without doing a pregnancy test first. (Although there are plenty of unethical doctors out there.) Was she buying them off of the street? And, as you said, was she taking those drugs to try to hide the weight that she was gaining from the pregnancy? Or did she know they were bad for pregnant women and hoped they would cause a miscarriage? There are plenty of weight loss drugs out there, she took the one that people often refer to as "legal meth." That's significant.
There are a lot of unanswered questions in this case, and I have a feeling that even more shocking information is going to come out.

She murdered him....instead of giving him a fair shot. We have safe haven laws...a hospital is one of the best approved locations to surrender your baby with no repacussions. But it's pretty common to give it in early labor. And the tests have been done: He had a tiny, insignificant amount in his system and he died because he suffocated in a trash bag.
I hate her lawyer. He was talking about how it's all the hospital's fault and morphine is contraindicated in pregnant women. I've worked in the medical field for over 20 years. That's just not true. And you don't need an MD to know that. (I don't have one.) I'm pretty sure you can find that out from a quick Google search.

Rosa honestly reminds me of my own mother. I got pregnant at 17, my mom knew I had a boyfriend and never spoke about s*x with me. When I had to admit to her that I was pregnant she yelled at me and blamed it all on me telling me that I didn't even know how badly I ruined my life. There was no sympathy and no comfort from her. My boyfriend (now husband) and I had to figure everything out ourselves for the sake of our daughter. My mother literally pretended like I wasn't pregnant the whole time. I feel so sorry for all the young women who go through their pregnancies alone. I grew up in a traditional Hispanic family. While I don't think anything can justify this girl's actions, I can understand her fear. As a teenage girl my worst nightmare was to get pregnant. My parents never had the sex talk with me, but I was expected to remain "pure" or else they would disown me because my life was essentially over. I would have been terrified of my mother in this situation and while I would have never done anything as horrific as straight up killing a child, there would have been urges to somehow hide my pregnancy or even end it by ending my life. I just think a bigger conversation needs to be had about why this girl was more terrified of facing her mom than being a murderer. My goal as a future parents is to provide a safe space for my child and be their guide during the good AND the bad times. I remember talking to my mom about birth control when I was 20 years old and she absolutely freaked out. Not all people really know what sex even is because not all countries have sex ed and not all parents really talk to their children about that.
Alexi might be a victim of her mother's abuse judging by her actions. If she was so terrified of her mother finding out, she probably had a reason to be terrified. Her being a victim doesn't give her the right to commit crimes obviously, it just explains why she decided to do it in the first place. I think it's good that people try to analyse her behaviour and find underlying issues, that can help prevent things like this from happening in the future. So yes, Alexi is both (probably) a victim AND a criminal.
The baby is obviously someone who suffered the worst and is the victim of the crime that his "mother" commited.
(I want to say, I obviously don't condone or support any of Alexi's actions, they're disgusting and evil, but there are just many details that make this situation complicated. She continued cheerleading, knowing how huge her belly appeared with her tight uniform. Her mother also knew she was pregnant. She knew when she went to the hospital that her pain was because she was in labor!! And giving birth scared her, or being a mom at 19 scared her. She had that baby in the bathroom, and the baby was alive. She tears the umbilical cord apart, and proceeds to literally wrap the baby in plastic trash bags, put him in the trash can, and even covered him with other trash. She placed him in the bottom of the trash can TO HIDE HIM. The plastic was suctioned to his face becauee of his attempts to draw in breath, but could only breath plastic!! Who knows... she could have bitten that umbilical cord to rip it apart. His autopsy officially lists "entrapment" as the cause of death, due to being alive when born but placed in the plastic bag... And the autopsy DID list it as a homicide. He had enough oxygen found in his lungs to open them up, hence proof of live birth (breathing after born). She knowingly and willingly MURDERED HER CHILD.

I'm somewhat torn with this case. As someone who definitely didn't look pregnant with either pregnancy (hell, my 8th month when my daughter was born, I only weighed 100lbs) and as someone who was pregnant at 19 and kept it secret up until I miscarried at month 6 before my mom found out and proceeded to chase me around the house calling me a murderer, liar, slut, and a bunch of other not very nice things in front of my then bf, I understand her panic in that moment. As I had done, she likely convinced herself that she wasn't pregnant or if she was, she may miscarry or have time to abort until it was too late. To have to face your mother who may, and in my case did, shame you or be so furious with you that they abandon you is a huge motivation for some young women to hide their pregnancies and when the inevitable time comes for birth, they absolutely panic and go in to self preservation mode. There is no bonding. You tell yourself "I'll probably miscarry or get an abortion, I have time" or "I'm not actually pregnant. It was just a false positive" and because of that, you form zero bond with the thing in you. Luckily, I never made it past 6 months with my first pregnancy, so never ended up having the twins. After everything from shock to fear wore off, the depression hit hard and I found myself wishing I had seen a doctor or done what I was supposed to do, and I'm sure she feels the same now that it's finally hit her. With my daughter, I was very fortunate to have an amazing husband and dad by my side and some awesome doctors and obgyns ❤ I didn't let my mother anywhere near me while pregnant. It's unfortunate this girl felt so much pressure, anxiety, and guilt. That baby would have likely never been murdered in that case. Now, I want to add that my empathy ends prior to her trashing the alive baby. That baby didn't deserve that and to wrap him so tight that his little lungs can't inflate is cruel and evil. I get the panic beforehand, but even I wouldn't have murdered my child who was alive and breathing at birth. At some point, you have to face the music. Whether it's deserved or not, kind, just, or hurtful, you still have to face your poor decisions and the consequences. Maybe her mom would have called her a bitch and a whore like mine did, but at the end of the days, it's better than murdering a newborn.

Personally I think if you have to guess and a parent is acting like that AND the patient isn’t being honest about being pregnant and won’t let doctors touch her that’s more than enough justification to ask the mom to step out even before the blood test came back since they already told them about the urine test. We have a portal patients can use, and parents actually lose access to everything except super basic stuff once they hit like 11 or 12, to help protect their privacy. Also when I was a kid, they asked my mom to leave on regular checkups while asking the "is there any chance you could be-" questions, even if I wanted her to stay, just to guarantee that I felt comfortable answering honestly. And that was the '90s. The staff definitely didn't do as much as they could to separate potentially abusive parent from child, but in the end, she made her decision, and has to pay the price.

I am a nurse and I work in trauma surgery. I cried watching this episode. First of all, thank you for acknowledging that medical staff are also human who oftentimes, put up a strong front in ordee to carry on with our job. Is not an easy job, and I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for the medical staff involved in this crime. Because this is what this is, a crime. This young woman has no excuse for what she did. She’s the only one at fault. Yeah you can blame the staff for not discussing her pregnancy results right away, but they checked on her several times while she was murdering that defenseless baby. I pray and hope justice is served.

I'll start by saying I've never been pregnant or in this girl's situation, but I have been in similar ones. My mother is controlling to put it mildly and that persists even now when I've instilled very clear and strict boundaries and separated myself from her. At 19 I would have had no chance of being treated or even considered an adult. I started having serious health issues at 22 and even then, my mother inserted herself into every situation. She insisted on being in the room for every appointment, had a say in decisions about treatments, and refused possibilities when she had no right to. When you've been raised in that environment, with a highly controlling parent, you don't have the tools to say "please remove my mother from the room, I am an adult and I don't want her here" or veto their decisions. You don't have the tools to go against what they say or think for yourself as an adult. You aren't capable of asserting yourself like that because that kind of individualism is squashed at every opportunity.
I know it sounds weird. She was an adult and could, reasonably, act on her own. But it's very different with parents like this and you don't fully understand that mindset if you haven't experienced it. In that situation, you don't have the option to speak against that parent, have them removed from the situation, act against them, or even contradict them. It doesn't even occur to you that that's an option. What that girl did wasn't okay and I'm not saying she had no fault in this situation. But I do think her mother's influence had a lot more to do with this than most people realize.

i agree to an extent because my mothers been the same way and shes yet to stop, shes also abusive so saying no or asking for her to leave when i was hospitalized would end up with me getting bruised BUT she was alone with the doctors in the hallway and when she was in the bathroom but not once did she quietly pull them to the side out of view of her room to tell them. she had the chance to tell them when her mother wasnt present nor could she be heard by her mother from the bathroom or the hallway + she couldve told them to stay quiet and not tell her mother. i do think her mother has a lot of influence over her daughter and it definitely may have influenced her behavior that night but she was entirely responsible for her decisions that night. for me personally at least, when my mothers being abusive or im scared of her in a situation where she has full control over me, im in full survival mode looking for even the slightest chance to get away. she had that chance at least twice from what we know and she did not take it. she couldve also asked a staff and said something like "can you come in i need a tampon dont tell my mom" to lure them in and tell them but she did not. i do understand ur perspective however, i just think the girl had multiple opportunities to evade her controlling mother while still telling staff about the baby.

@@inimmz I absolutely agree with what you're saying. Reasonably she had all the opportunities to make the right choice. It's just, when your parents aren't being outright abusive there's this mind game that's got control of you. Their manipulation runs so deep that it's very difficult to question it or go against it. If they're never outright abusive, then there's very little to make you go "hold up this isn't right." I can only speak from personal experience but it's really difficult to break out of that mental hold they've got on you if there isn't anything to trigger that survival instinct. It takes years of separation and outright therapy to get out of it and even then it's a 50/50. It's like they convince you down to your core that their opinions and beliefs are the only ones that matter. If her mother is a narcissist like so many of us assume, she didn't raise her daughter to be an individual. They raise us like extensions of themselves. We are not unique people with our own personalities and desires. We are theirs and stepping beyond that is seen as betrayal. This is pure speculation on my part, and again, I don't want this to detract from her personal responsibility or anyone else's theories and experiences. This stuff is too complex for us to really know. I just feel really sorry for her because I see a lot of my personal history reflected in her and her mother's actions.
Sorry, I also went way too long

Recently in my country, a woman with very severe postpartum psychosis & depression killed her two toddlers and then attempted suicide, tried to jump off her apartment balcony but she survived and her husband found her. This same woman had gone multiple times to medics and asked to be institutionalised and under surveillance cuz she felt like she would harm her children and the hospitals and doctors let her down.
She literally begged them to keep her in the hospital cause of how fearful she was of doing anything to her babies.
This poor woman will not only be criminalised and jailed but worst of all, live with the guilt and pain of killing her babies, for something that wasnt her fault and was out of her control.

We live in a world where we're a kid fears their parents more than being honest. I can't imagine that. It's so shameful because parents leave their kids feeling helpless and insecure about opening up to them about harsh things like this because of the consequences they'll put on them. Instead, you got teens that do things like this. Parents seriously need to be more supportive of their own flesh and blood instead of making them feel like if they screw up once, they get chewed out and spit right back out over and over again

I think a big part of the issue is parents have a major tendency to forget that they were also rebellious teens at one point. They were also drinking underage, being s3xually active, smoking pot and cigarettes you name it. Either that or they know they were that way and will go to extremes to avoid it with their own teen. But that’s just how teenagers behave. I’ll forever be thankful my mom understood teens will be teens and gave me access to a bc prescription and a safe place to consume substances (while not supporting my use).
