Being an ex heroin addict myself, the scene where you said "he must be hallucinating", when Rentons parents lock him up so he can go cold Turkey, well I think that scene is done extremely well. It describes exactly how you feel when your coming off that shite. The emotions and failures that you've been running from by numbing yourself with heroin most your life, they all come rushing back. So everything that Renton didn't face in life, well it's all coming rushing back ten fold, it's a horrible thing to go through. Plus the pain and the sickness is awful, it's like having the flu and covid x10, plus the lack of sleep for days on end. So yeh don't do drugs people. Trainspotting is not exaggerated at all, it's so close to life. I haven't had a habit for 13 year's now. Great film and a great reaction king boomer, thank-you 💙🙏🏻👍

That withdrawal sequence was designed to stop people from trying heroin by scaring the shit out of you. It was a great film when it came out and certainly did not glorify drugs
Its putting his thoughts into picture, it's real, that's what you go through. It's what he'd be thinking. I speak from experience. Great film. ❤
The withdrawal scene wasn't designed to steer people away it was designed to accurately betray what withdrawal is like, it just happens to steer people away on it own.
I always find trainspotting bittersweet. I loved the film when it came out, and still love it. It's so well made, and resonates so much as someone growing up in Scotland in the 90's. But then, just 2 years after the film was released, my cousin died of a heroin overdose. She was my best friend in the world. And watching the film always brings everything back, the struggles to get her clean, the relapses, all happening when Trainspotting was the big thing. And then, ultimately, her death. Until we meet again.
That is hard when you lose someone close because of something that seems like it should have been avoidable

@@karlmeadows4986 Yeah, I know, but I really don't agree. It shows very clearly the downward spiral and dire consequences. General portrayal is different from glamourising in my opinion. Others may disagree of course.
The British film you really need to watch is "Dead Mans Shoes". It's an absolute classic.

T2 is definitely worth it. A different movie because they are all 20 years older and that is reflected in the story.
It was so unlikely and very riskey to make a sequal 20 years later but they did it and it was great.
Yeah loved T2, I’d argue it’s better than the original.
They really captured everything- nostalgia, regret, letting go -it really was a gut punch to the feels.
I loved T2. There are a lot of detractors but really any classic movie that gets a sequel after a couple of decades or more will always have detractors, there are people who hate Bladerunner 2049 despite the fact Denis Villeneuve perfectly recreated the world of the first movie. Trainspotting is one of those movies where you wonder "What happened to them?" and T2 shows you what happened to them. I hope KB reacts to it at some point.

@@ChorltonOutlaw that’s not me saying the original is bad, the original is incredible. I just mean T2 had to follow the original so there was huge expectations to be met and there were people who didn’t want a sequel so they had to be won over too. To me they did an amazing job to keep the tone of the 1st film and they built on it. They’re both masterpieces in my opinion, I just prefer the 2nd one because it’s more relatable to me - growing older, living with regrets and the decisions you’ve made, working out what to do in life - as Begbie put it ‘the world changes, even if we don’t’
it just really hit closer to home for me.
I'm only 1 min into watching this reaction, but you should definitely consider watching an excellent bloody, urban thriller called *Shallow Grave*. It is set in Glasgow, is directed by Trainspotting and 28 Days Later director and stars Ewan McGregor (among others). Three co-habiting friends come into possession of a huge sum of cash and decide to keep it - with dire consequences.
Great shout. Shallow Grave is a hugely underrated film.

Trainspotting is one of my favourite movies. The acting, script, soundtrack, cinematography, etc were all perfect. I thought Robert Carlyle was electrifying as Begbie - how such a little guy can be so terrifyingly threatening. T2 is definitely worth a watch. A different tone to the original but still an excellent film looking at the characters 20 years later.
I saw this in the cinema back in the 90s. I always felt that this was Ewan McGregor's best acting out of all his movies.
He is great in this although the film "the impossible" He was insanely good in that. I love these low budget British films, wish we had more of them.

I loved your reaction to Spud's laundry scene. It had me cracking up at that for the first time in years. I read the book when I lived in Leith, where it's set, and it was crazy sitting on a bus reading about this stuff, and looking up I could see the places where they happened (fictionally). You said you love the shot with them crossing the road, but did you realise it's a homage to Abbey Road? When they get off the train next to the mountain, one of them is facing the wrong way, like Paul on the back of Sgt Pepper's. There might be more of them, but I don't know. Danny Boyle also made Yesterday, about a world where The Beatles are suddenly wiped out of existence and only 1 musician remembers them. That's OK, but if you want to check out more of his work, I'd recommend Shallow Grave, with an even younger Ewan McGregor, Christopher Eccleston, who later played Dr Who, and Lilly Allan's dad, Keith, who was haggling the price with Begbie in this.
Danny Boyle is a brilliant director. Yes, he did 'The Beach ', 'Slumdog Millionaire ' and '28 Days Later', etc

One of the best movies ever made, the grit the realism. The nostalgia. Also check out human traffic from 1999.
Love Human Traffic, the writer/director Justin Kerrigan did a fantastic job recreating what clubbing in the late 90's was actually like.

Opening scene with his hands on the car is directly outside my work , and I rented my first flat in 1999 and spud was my landlord 🤣🤣
Literally was East of Scotland in 1996. I worked in Edinburgh in the first half of my twenties in the 90's and there was a dozen pubs down Leith Walk where there was a Spud and Begbie propping up the bar in every pub. Show no weakness and you'd have a great night out in the town. The alternative wasn't an option.
T2 is definitely worth a watch and I enjoyed it a lot but just don't go in there with the expectation it will be on the same level as this movie. A great reaction video as always KB.

I was serving in Bosnia with the British Army when this film was released. One of the lads brought the video back with him after being on leave, we had our own TV room so he put it on, it then played continuously for two and a half days, as different people were always coming and going, and was only stopped because The Simpsons was on on Sunday Evenings lol 🤣🤣
Trainspotting is one of the most iconic British films of all time. I watch it now and find as entertaining as I ever did. Pure cinematic brilliance.

Sick Boy, who was doing the Bond impersonations, is the original M's (Bernard Lee) grandson. He's the only one who is not Scottish in the slightest and does a brilliant job with the accent, so much so that a lot of people thought he was.
At the time Robert Carlyle was in a TV show as a highland policeman called Hamish Macbeth. Seeing him as Begbe was shocking! What a character!!!

Totally different plot but back in the 90s Twin Town was seen as the Welsh version of this. Funny and dark, worth a watch.

TWIN TOWN is a classic SEX DRUGS AND KARAOKE it blows trainspotting out of the water. But in it's first weekend in the USA it earned 6 grand so that's why nobody knows about it

@@sammacdaibheid I saw both in the cinema, and Nil By Mouth was far more intense for me. I've never experience another movie like it. Amazing acting from Cathy Burke (Perry) and Ray Winstone, directed by Gary Oldman.
At 11:25 - yeah, Keving McKidd is awesome. He's great in HBO's 'Rome', and one of my favourite horror/comedies of all time (tied with 'Tremors'), 'Dog Soldiers'. It's a werewolf movie about a British Army team doing a training exercise in the highlands of Scotland (which obviously goes horribly wrong). It's got some absolutely hilarious dialogue and it's well worth tracking down.
I forgot that Kevin McKidd was in that. Another great movie from that era.
Born Slippy was pretty much the anthem of most nights out after it came out, Mitsubishis by the handful..😂

22:50 my dealer once drove 20 miles to help me find the fent pills i dropped, some dealers do try to help in weird ways, he no longers sells fent now just psychedelics and benzos.
‘The Acid House’ is a must watch. Three short stories by the same writer, some of the same cast as TS staged in the same era.
T2 is definitely worth a watch, it's very much a twenty years later, modern social commentary kind of movie

During the filming of this Begbie (Robert Carlyle) was also playing a lovable Scottish highlands village police officer whose main companion in his work was his dog, called Wee Jock. Having been to Scotland a few times, I have never experienced someone as psychotically violent as Begbie, but I was surprised when my totally ordinary black shoulder bag caused such a stir that drunk men insisted on taking selfies while wearing it. "He's got a f#cking manbag! I've seen everything now! A f#cking manbag!" etc.
The follow up to Trainspotting is really the Acid House, again by Irvine Welsh. Another must watch. Similar cast.
3 short films, 1 is utter gash (Acid House) spoils the whole thing....pity as Granton Star Cause and A Soft Touch are so strong on their own.
I recommend “The Acid House”. It’s an anthology of Irvine Welsh short stories, and I think you’ll really like it.
Acid house is definitely a great intro to Irvine Welsh. I love his books, Trainspotting, Porno, Blade Artist, Dead Man's Shoes are some of my favourites.
I've never taken heroin, but I've experienced severe withdrawal after a massive morphine overdose, and what's portrayed in the film is very accurate. I remember hallucinations, confusion, chronic fatigue, fever and nausea. Also, I didn't even have the strength to stand on my own for 2 days after I woke up. It's a really awful thing to go through, so I really feel for addicts, that have most likely got to go through it multiple times in their lives.
Trainspotting 2 is really good, i thought for a sequel! funny seeing Johnny Lee Miller post-Dexter.

It's not a patch on the original but it's a good film. It takes place 20 years after the original film and it's worth a watch.
It gives you a lot more background on the characters from the first film especially Spud & Begbie
The thing with Trainspotting 2, is that, despite it being nothing like the book (and the book is one of my faves) its more a sequel to the film, and more a nostalgia thing.... I don't think it would really appeal to people who didn' grow up with Trainspotting being one of their fave films, the bits of the film that take you back to the first film take you back to what you were doing when you first saw the film also.....without that you're just not going to get the same vibe from it..... plus the ending of the book was the weak part, the ending of the film is even worse....and just too much a rehash....

Scotland had a major heroin usage problem throughout the 80's and 90's. This film perfectly encapsulates the social problems of Scotland during that time

BTW T2 trainspotting is a brilliant beautiful love letter to those of us that went through it, got clean only to get a whole new set of problems be set us. It’s stunning. But also see Shallow Grave, guaranteed to blow you anyway. Danny Boyle debut feature
The sequel, T2, is definitely worth the watch. It was filmed with the same actors, 20 years after this one; and the characters are 20 years older too. So, it really feels like... what happens to these guys in 20 years time.
And, IMO, it is brilliantly done. I highly recommend it.

Underworld - Born Slippy from the soundtrack was a big tune....the hook is joined in by people whether in the club or the pub! LAGER LAGER LAGER!!
Jonny Lee Miller (Sick Boy) is I think the only actor that's not Scottish, but that's a damned good Edinburgh accent he can do.
Fellow trainspotters, a better follow up to this is a 4 part TV Drama called Looking After Jo Jo, which also stars Robert Carlyle and Kevin McKidd (amongst others) its also set in Edinburgh in the 80s, and is about the heroin epidemic, but while Trainspotting can be accused of glamorising the lifestyle, Looking After Jo Jo really delved into the matter of how the situation affecetd lives and families and tore communities apart, and exposes the people the dealers were. Its a great drama with a brilliant soundtrack, amazing acting and some real grit!
They weren’t just beating up the tourist , they were robbing him but they had to stop Begbie from taking it too far 👍🏴
A brilliant 90s classic. Danny Boyle's films are always so innovative you gotta checkout Shallow Grave, The Beach, Slumdog Millionaire among others. Some very funny and utterly tragic scenes in this too. This film really put McGregor on the map, even though he also starred in Shallow Grave too, again set in Edinburgh.
I met Irvine Welsh in an Edinburgh pub a few weeks ago. I asked him if he'd been at the Hibs game earlier that day - he responded "shite", then we talked about how badly Hibs had played. He'd had a few. I told him I was a huge fan of his and he thanked me.
It was an even better day than Lou Reed's perfect day.

I remember a friend of mine stealing money from his parents and emptying his brothers bank account to pay for heroin. Thankfully now he's been clean for quite a few years and really turned his life around
You should watch the sequel, it’s amazing. I’m Scottish and this movie is just *chefs kiss* to me. Underworld born slippy and Lust for Life are iconic and forever will be because of this movie
Twin Town is a good film as well. What Trainspotting does for Scotland, Twin Town does for Wales.
When my daughter was young we had to watch Grease every morning before school.......for 3 years, she and i knew all the lines......Years after she started watching train spotting and reciting the lines, i put a stop to it.!

The pub that berbie threw the glass over the balcony ,was a church hall in Glasgow up until the 70s,I went there as a wee boy in the 60s and have been back since it was converted to the pub .Like laughing along to you laughing at British stuff I haven’t watched and laughed again for a while,the dog is a nice touch :D
Most people don't really understand opioid addiction, try feeling better than you ever have in your entire life, that's opioids.
1. I had to use a toilet in Amsterdam which was worse than that toilet. It was incredibly grim! 😬
2. I was 13 years old when this was released. If watching this movie doesn't stop you even thinking about trying Heroin, then nothing will. (the scene when he's locked up in his room and going through withdrawals is beyond harrowing)
3. This movie does have a great soundtrack.
King B. The crazy guy is played by Robert Carlyle. He is one of the best actors in the UK. He has also played a Bond villain. Also he is a man of many accents. This was well worth a watch. PS I forgot to say that Ewan Bremner who played spud also played Dominic in Harry Enfield's the dad of the gay son.

The uncut version has Rents seeing "mother superior" begging in the train station (if my memory serves) after losing his legs. And to think Politicians at the time said it glorified heroin use!
T2 is well worth a watch. When I first saw it I wasn't expecting very much, but honestly it's an extremely impressive sequel that is on par with the original, in my humble opinion. Definitely give it a watch, even if it's not on the channel. What you should watch next for a good British film is This Is England. I doubt any of your followers would disagree with me there

T2 is ok but I’d recommend Shallow Grave, the movie Boyle did before Trainspotting with Ewan McGregor- dark, funny, and brilliant.
Heroin is still a big issue in the U.K., our system is broken but no one cares and yes the baby still haunts me! Big up Sis Boomer too, she has great taste in movies!

But it bugs me that the film misses out the actual "Trainspotting" scene from the book, which really gives Begbie's character some perspective. A classic movie nonetheless, what a cast!
Trainspotting, great film with a great cast - especially Ewan Bremner’s Spud & Robert Carlyle’s Begby.
It’s got some strong scenes. I went to the premier in Glasgow, and remember someone shouted out “you’re sick” and walked out, when they had the baby scenes.
I watched the sequel which I think I preferred for the story, but I think the first one might have been funnier, even if it was quite strong at points.
Not sure if you know this, but the guy who played Mikey is Irvine Welsh, the author of the books that the film is based on.
Another British classic is Withnail and I.
But yes, you must see T2 - a nostalgia trip for us Generation X'ers

King Boomer, this really is one of the greatest indie movies of all time! It's of our answer to Pulp Fiction here in the UK. The soundtrack is the best compilation of the 90s, I think...It introduced a lot of us to Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Underworld, etc.
Robert Carlyle is brilliant as Begbie; I admit I only understand like 30% of what he's saying though. His pub story about "playing pool like Paul fookin Newman" is top shelf. Knowing him would be a nightmare but man he's funny.
Danny Boyel's first movie Shallow Grave also with Mcgregor is well worth a look.
Apparently, some of the cast didn't know until after filming ended that Johnny Lee Miller was English. An ok Scottish accent and could do a good Sean Connery.

The book has some additional stuff in there which flesh out the characters a bit more. The bulk of it is written in phonetic Scottish (Renton is the narrator) and takes a while to get used to reading
