We normally take our tree 🎄 and decorations down January 8th , but it's been a very crazy year so in the New Year I want to start it off with happiness, calming feeling, and beautifulness , so I am keeping my tree up for a lot longer. As I was having a really rough year this year I was so depressed and once my tree 🎄 and decorations were up , oh my goodness my mood changed instantly for the good, I am so relaxed and calm now. I don't want to take that away

Oh cool! My boyfriend does the same thing because he has family that celebrate Christmas on January 7. I usually leave mine up over a week into the new year as well. I decided to be a little eccentric this year and leave mine up until February (the weekend after Groundhog's Day).

I leave mine up well into January as well usually. The ironic thing is most of the people who are telling you to take stuff down on the 26th are the same ones who put everything up on November 1 and call you a scrooge for not doing so, haha. Now it's our turn to turn the tables on them. 😀 It's so weird how it used to be put everything up the end of November and take it down in early January was the norm, now people are trying to be like Walmart, I guess. My boyfriend has Eastern Orthodox relatives so he leaves his up until after January 7.

My family keeps our tree up (and decorations) until January 6th when Epiphany occurs. I have my own room I decorate with stuff that's mine only and this past January 2023 I was very sick from the worst flair up I had ever had with my Ulcerative Colitis that made me tired, weak, have loss of full appetite and bed and house bound in pain for 2 weeks until I was sent to the hospital for what became 2 blood transfusions. I didn't get my decorations down until February and immediately decorated for Valentine's Day.😁

In Germany we usually have the Christmas tree until Jan 6. In catholic areas they take it down in February at Presentation of Jesus day. But we don't put up the Christmas tree before Dec 24th usually, so we didn't have it up for several weeks or months. We have some decorations starting 1st advent (the 4th Sunday before Christmas) and the Christmas tree on Christmas.
I'm not catholic, but I love Christmas, so I leave my tree until February. 🙂

The idea of a 'seasonal tree' is very tempting. I would do one for the four seasons. I can already see little surfboards, flip flops, ice cream cones, little sunglasses, beach tents and beach balls, etc., for the summertime decorations. If not found online, such seasonal decorations can be made using whatever you have on hand and some creative imagination. Kids, especially would even enjoy making summertime decorations.

when SHOULD you: never to whenever you can, depending on the weather and if you have help if needed.
there is permanent lighting you can install for safety, seasonal, and parties. there are a few brands which I have on my wish list they are hard to get but seen a couple of ppl in our city with them.
our tradition is to slowly take things down march or april. tho if we had a real tree that would be taken down before it was a fire hazard and droppin needles everywhere, lol. Its been unseasonably warm so I've been putting more decor up outside even in the last couple of days. (normally start putting things up nov 1st). normally its too cold to remove xmas decor in winter. every yr I try to do more.
during covid someone mentioned to keep lights... so we did.
the house came w lights on one of the trees never turned them on , never took them off so far- its on the list, lol
I also keep lights up inside yr round usually off, and one special mini tree.
    not mark btw.

I was never religious until about ten years ago, so the tree would come down on January 1st. But since reconnecting with my Catholic faith, I now leave it up until after January 5th. Besides, I like to sit in the evenings and enjoy my tree as long as possible.

If you find it is clutter, put up less. If you want to take it down Boxing Day because you are over it then ask yourself, why did you put it up in the first place. Follow what makes you happy not what the world is doing. Simple!

  • @GraniteStateVictoria

Used to be the norm to put stuff up after Thanksgiving and leave it up until after New Year's. Now it's become the norm for people to put everything up on November 1 and take it down on December 26. I usually put mine up the weekend after Thanksgiving and leave mine up until some time during the second week of January (8th-14th), or sometimes the third week (15th-21st). But I'm in the mood to be really eccentric this year so I'm leaving it up until the weekend after Groundhog's Day (yes, in February). I admit, a small part of it is to spite the holiday rushers.

What a wonderful thing to do for your military father! We did something similar. When my father worked overseas, his R&R would almost invariably happen in April. We put up the artificial tree the day after Thanksgiving, and would take it down after he returned to work in the middle of May. His birthday was on April the sixth, so we had all of his Christmas and birthday gifts piled around the tree for when he arrived mid April. He always loved Christmas time, so this was something extra special for him whenever he came home.

Until Feb 2nd! Christmas celebrates Jesus's birth and it took 40 days for 'the days of purification' to be complete so that His Mother and St. Joseph could take Him to the Temple to present Him to the Lord. Therefore, many people (like Polish people, traditional Catholics) leave their decorations up for 40 days to celebrate Jesus's newborn phase!🎄😊
