Pretty exciting that we have these 2 new products from Apple. The Mac Studio is a BEAST and my exact spec comes in at $7K with the M1 Ultra chip. For my workflow, it's def overkill but it's the best comp you can get with Mac OS right now. The Studio display is interesting as well, probably would just get an iMac for the money, but at least it's WAY cheaper than the Pro Display XDR

It's weird how the monitor has a processor in it that could run Mac OS pretty well itself. It's like an iMac without the OS.

Seems typical for Apple to make the monitors power cable non removable so if the cable gets damaged for any reason you have to pay them to fix it.

Of course you can try it but these displays are not intended for gaming at all. The only one disappointing thing is 60Hz which means you can use it exclusively for work.

The Mac Studio is honestly one of those products that satisfies both mac and PC users. It gives you the interface and experience of a Mac alongside the performance and hardware of a PC you know and love.
But how if it’s not compatible with x86?

By the way guys, the cloth only comes on the Nano Texture option display. Just in case you have the standard glass and you go through the box and don't find yours.

Update, My Studio Display blew up yesterday, belching smoke for 6 minutes before a final loud bang. Only lasted 18 months, very scary failure and I did get it on video. Posted pictures of the failure on my community tab and what to look out for before this failure. I can't post a video because I now have no display. Apple store has seen the damage, investigations are pointing at the slim internal power supply that's failed in a dramatic meltdown.
Already happy with my 16" M1 Max. The M1 Ultra must be the perfect work horse!

Waiting patiently. Need to upgrade not sure if I should go studio or MacBook Pro. I already have the 2021 iPad Pro for school and creative work which works fine for me but moving forward which of the two is the better option. Illustration/graphic design student looking to dabble into animations.
Both would be good options. But consider if you need the portability form factor - the MacBook Pro will allow you to work from anywhere and it’s a powerful chip, as is the mac studio, but it isn’t so easy to carry around and use in a coffee shop. The Mac Studio is probably overkill for most but it’s an investment for those getting it, and it’ll last a good few years with Apples long support.
Definitely like to see the Studio Display vs Pro Display XDR but using your 16” MBP as the driver (not the Studio)
Broooo wtf apple. Just bought a studio display and Mac mini. Powered it all on paired with a Logitech mx keys ..both mouse and keyboard have usb dongles and are Bluetooth capables. Unfortunately the Mac mini doesn’t even have regular usb!! It’s usb 4? Which I’ve never had anything that’s used that. So scratch that idea guess I’m using Bluetooth right? NOPE. Turn it all on and the studio display keeps telling me to connect mouse and keyboard but it’s not recognizing either the one! so I’m sitting here after spending $3000 and I can’t even use it out of the box! Idk maybe I’m doing something wrong but I doubt it. Tried everything. Guess I have to spend even more money! I might be returning, I’m already fucking hating this thing and haven’t even used it lol

Is the polishing cloth like a random thing like a prize in a cereal box because I got a studio display and didn’t find one. I looked deeper in the box and still nothing.

You kind of left out two (or more) important aspects of the unboxing and setup description and show: 1) how do you connect the mac and the display? What cord is used and does it come in the box with the display? and 2) There is another mac keyboard available for $149 instead of $199, and it has (for me) the advantage of NOT having that wasted extra 5 inches of space out to the right of the keyboard that on the more expensive keyboard has the mini-keyboard that is only used for inputting numbers and possibly doing calculations. If you get the cheaper keyboard you have room to put your mac trackpad to the right of the keyboard (or the left if you're left-handed), which is the way I currently use the trackpad for my 27" iMac.
Watched to whole video for setup and he doesn't even show how to set it up? I've connected my Mac Studio with cables to Magic Mouse and Keyboard and I get nothing. Will need to find another video.
It’s not Modular. Apple use words indiscriminately, disregarding the true meaning of the words. Like saying the display is “edge-to-edge”. It is not.

Very nice. I have a question that no one answered properly. When you connect a macbookpro to a display via thunderbolt cable, does this setup harm the battery of the macbook when using it daily as a desktop unit.? Some say, the machine will recognize that it is powered up constantly and the current by pass the battery so it does not stress it. What is your advise? What is the proper and safe way to use a laptop with a desktop monitor?

I'm a massive Apple user. Everything I own (technology wise in terms of phone, laptop, watch, tablet) is Apple. But, I actually think it's pretty disgusting they do not include a keyboard or mouse with the Mac mini or Studio.
Yea and you can’t set it up with a third party mouse or keyboard unless you fork out more money for adapters smh! Fuck apple

Thats not what modular means. Being able to put it in a bag or move it around easy means it’s portable. You cant switch anything out on this other then using any monitor and keyboard youd like. Which still isn’t modular. Poor choice of words they used

That “biochip" in the monitor is a frivolous waste of money. The camera is at a 1990s level of quality, the speakers arrangement would be good enough without the chip as well, and "Yes Siree" could very well be inside the 'puter unit. For that we are asked to outlay $400, perhaps. Too bad, because I love the idea of that monitor and I’d have gladly spent a grand for it. Will have to settle for a $350 LG. Oh, well.
