I agree with everything, but you meant "delude" instead of "dilute". Delude comes from delusion, while dilute is the action of what you would be doing if you poured water into orange juice. There's currently also a sneaky extra space before the word.
To an extent that's one advantage of knowing that Apple will never send review samples to LMG. @Jaquan Kelsor At no point did they it even affected their opinions. If you're going to try to imply other people are stupid, you might want to start with proper reading comprehension.
Really loved this episode. As someone who used to watch they keynote every year with excitement, i've also found myself surprised with my lukewarm reactions to recent products. This is despite a heavy investment into their ecosystem and a deep love of their products. I think you have a great style, and your more measured perspective makes you trustworthy. As someone with a deep love of Mac, doesn't it bother you how Apple is moving everything to M1? -M1 is terrible for gaming -M1 gpu is weak, compared to NVidia/AMD -M1 can't run Boot Camp -M1 can't run 100% of Windows apps -M1 has lots of issues, bugs Intel-based Macs were so much better, in a variety of ways.
@@DerekDavis213 nah M1 is way better than Intel and for your points Mac were never good at gaming, neither did they had great gpus and like now m1 max and ultra has good gpu performance when considering the size, battery etc does. App support would of course take time for any new platform that doesn't mean you've to stick to those overheating Intel processors.

Too much time around PC people will do that to you! Just kidding, I think your level of criticism and skepticism are very healthy, and good for the community.

No? Are you expecting top hypercar manufacturers to release a car which is faster than the speed of sound? No you dont. Expectations can be always be high.
3:04 That portable AC surprised me, I thought the whole thing was just for pure aesthetics. Very cool setup, perhaps practical for someone who has big big project but too stressful to stay indoor 😂
I thought they had found a way to conceal a large battery under the desk. I knew the computer was super efficient but impressive to see how bright the display was too. I wonder how long it would last. But the computer or battery or both would probably overheat.
for those who don't know... this is not far off from some film studios or wedding photographers who need to edit their stuff ON SITE. or news reporters who need to bring their studio stuff on site.
@@Justin_Leahy the iPhone processors are made by Apple too. Arguably it doesn’t have fans but I wonder what would happen if you just kept recirculating hot air in a computer with the sun beating down on it. It’s incredibly good that this channel insists on continuing to do real journalism while the drive towards clicks and ad revenue, essentially just saying things the audience already thinks, has basically gutted journalism across fields through the whole internet. Keep up the good work!
I'll choose Jonathan over someone who's always excited on every product Apple releases. We need that objective view - I'll choose on my own if those criticisms will impact how I use that product.
Yeah the others are such clear Apple shills it's not even funny. Since that's the only way they can get new Apple products to even review earlier than other outlets.
"Wouldn't you rather watch someone who is ecstatic about it [whatever they are presenting]? " No, definitely not. I ALWAYS prefer cynical and highly critical over ecstatic. It almost always shows that it's actually proper coverage and not just hype. It's MUCH more important to know the flaws of most products (especially premium products) than the advantages/great things about it.
In Bellingham WA, I use to go work out of a Woods Coffee off of West Bakerview Rd. A guy use to show up with a full blown 27 inch iMac to work in the corner of the coffee shop
Criticizing Apple will help them in the long run. It's very important that they know their mistakes so they can improve on their new products. A company being complacent become stagnated.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has noticed. I've definitely noticed a shift in apple's attitudes toward their customers over the last year or so. There was a definite shift away from the customer's best interest over the course of 2016 through 2019 with the arguably terrible MacBooks, removal of the headphone jack, and incremental or lackluster updates across the entirety of their product line. Starting with the 2019 MacBook pro and iphone 11 series we saw a shift back toward the customer, with a return to innovation, switch to apple silicon, and generally well regarded software updates that spanned a significant spectrum of their product line. Far from perfect, but certainly better than it was. But now we're going back again it seems. Many more years of machines than usual were put on the chopping block with limited support for the new versions of iOS and macOS, we're back to incremental updates on dated designs, the consumer is forced into a product they may not need just for the single spec they want, and repairability seems more an artifact of malicious compliance than anything else. The software point hits extra hard for me because I have the a12z iPad pro and yet I don't get access to arguably the best features of ipadOS 16. Feels like a bit of a slap in the face. I hope Apple corrects course a bit here but I'm not holding my breath.
Like charging an extra $400 for a 2nd TB of storage and $800 for an extra 64GB of ram? That's insane. 64GB of DDR5 costs anywhere from $200‐400 and a good 1TB NVMe SSD costs $120ish. That's overlooking the extra $1000 for 14 more GPU cores. It's possible to buy a really nice pc or laptop for what Apple charges for upgrades.
You're absolutely right about the 13 mini. I have one and so does my son. After this phone dies, I'm not sure what I'll do. If apple doesn't offer a mini, I'll have to look around elsewhere. I agree about the macs. What happened to the Jobs era $400 Mac Minis which could have ram and storage upgraded?
I'm hoping the next iPhone SE will be in the Mini body. I hope. I currently use an SE and I like it, but modernizing the screen would be great. I would also like a second camera for macro but I won't press that one as hard.
I prefer the mini as well. If I want to watch video’s and stuff I just use my 11” iPad Pro. The mini is perfect for being able to do everything but I don’t need to be able to watch an entire season of a show on it.
It's always infuriating to watch channels like ijustine just, get overly excited over absolutely everything. It's good to see a channel that has some actual sense behind it.
@@aarrondias9950 idk about the others, but mkbhd isn’t an apple shill, its on record that he prefers android, I just think he gives Apple more credit than they deserve.

Great video! Love the inclusion of nature. It's okay to be critical about a company and it's products it just shows that you care and you want the company to do better.
I just think these perspectives are too general to be useful. I'm a musician. Up to earlier this year, I had hung onto my intel Mac Mini until the studio was released. I have a good screen, I want the power of a Mac with the convenience of a desktop where I don't have to buy the screen (iMac) or the whole thing (any laptop). I needed the _ports_ and connectivity -- the M1 Max Mac Studio was perfect.
Coming from a non apple user "Power of a mac" do you mean in workflow? Because exept for a beefed up mac pro a decent windows or linux desktop will wipe out a mac in raw performance (at the cost of heat) including many optimised programmes
general is only usefull one if you ask me as most of us arent musicians some of us are coders or video editors or something else i cant realy think of, going into depth into all of that is hard time consuming and expensive and hard
MA always uses the most out-there cold opens in the content put out by LMG. I love how this, and Short Circuit always shows the hosts and the tech being used out in the wild, so to say. I love this style and wish more of the other LMG vids did this sort of thing.
I just love, love the MA videos. Their cinematography, the set selection, their lighting, the voice over, the audio, the background music, the b-rolls are just spectacular and so refreshing and therapeutic.
Your contribution to the tech community is extremely valuable. I'm glad your talks are more than just tech specs and benchmarks. Appreciate the effort!
Weirdest place was in a McDonald's kids indoor area. I met a family there from Craigslist to show and sell my mac mini. The computer booted, but the monitor I brought wasn't working for some reason, so I couldn't prove that it was actually working. I thought I lost the sale, but they asked if they could call if they got home and still had a problem. I said "sure" and never heard from them again. I hope the computer made that family happy. The machine was in great condition.
That wan show clip was quite the moment to hear live. I didn't expect to hear a followup to it on this channel. You are such a classic case of being the most critical of something you love. While not quite a good example, it's like the nintendo enthusiasm in my circles. You just wanna love the company so much for its legacy, and hits big hits. Yet they make it so difficult to love their products unconditionally. This is such a good self aware piece. Also I thought the thumbnail was a really good photoshop, then I began watching and I was like... Oh. That's some effort right there.
One of the things I appreciate about you and your content is exactly this: you keep a critical eye when reviewing Apple products. And that’s healthy both for you and for your audience.
Speaking as a Mac user, please continue your transition into a full-blown cynic. It's a refresher from the breathless, annoying enthusiasm one sees among other Apple reviewers.
it's really great to have a host like you, that besides the good things, algo recognize some flaws that apple and their products have! great video as usual Jonathan!!
I plugged a 2008 cheese-grater Mac Pro into my friends truck once and we recorded 10 songs live in Logic Pro with microphones, a keyboard, and a basic drum kit… while the truck was in motion. It was surprisingly easy to strip out the background noise in post!
I personally prefer having a custom built Windows desktop so that it fits my specific needs for music production and gaming but I really love the MacBook air as my laptop for convenience, perfect for browsing the internet on the couch, keeping track of recipes in the kitchen, setting it up as a place to stream movies from, etc. And it feels great to use (so light, great key board, bright screen, excellent battery life). I used to be an apple hater but there's places for both Windows and Apple in my life.
You don't need to randomly appreciate Apple, I think everyone knows you like the products enough to invest this much time in reviewing them. Being a bit more cynical is normal when you buy a computer that costs somewhere around $4000.
I mean, I guess, but I feel like they’ve been doing that since the OG Macs and iPods. They’ve been thinking different for 40+ years- to be fair to you, markets most certainly change so this testing is reasonable, but like… 🤷♂️
I set up desktop on top of a mountain range, I worked for a Civ.Eng. firm with a project for a massive road network through the Oman Mountain range, sometimes I had to open and navigate insanely huge cad files and no laptop had the power, so I got sent a porter cabin with aircon and a diesel geny, only for a fricking bolder to take off a wall one stormy evening, luckily nothing else was damage, and it became a home for goats, so Im in my open air office mid winter out there having a conference call with the upper management and the goats Baaaing in the background, its like 15'c on a sunny day and Ive got hot coffee in hand, having a grand time with a utterly amazing view, too my left I could see the Burj Khalifa and Dubai, to the right I can see some little fishing villages surrounded by beautiful Red and Brown mountain ranges
I'm so happy with what apple's doing with their chips, and i commend them, and I really like the IO and small footprint of my mac studio. That said I can't help but feel a bit disappointed with its design...for a brand new product, I'd have expected a radical new design, not a frankly ugly taller mac pro... I hope they'll give us something exciting with the 2022 mac pro. I'll be getting my next computer in 2024, so by then I hope they'll have redesigned the mac studio.
While I am currently coming into the ecosystem and love my purchases, I also think your criticism are more than valid and questions worth asking. Like your iPhone SE refresh video that asked the questions, "Who is the target customer." That while I want to shift to an iPhone from my aching Android, it made me evaluate my needs, the downsides for going to an SE vs other iPhone choices. Too often I find those more passionate channels glossing over those mistakes, or highlighting and fawning over choices that ultimately don't matter for me (that much). So thank you for being the voice of reason in the room. I think, together with strong competitors, the best thing for Apple to have is people that do like Apple's walled garden, but can articulate what they would wish for.
What I find missing in the whole ‘efficiency-discussion’: I never heard anybody pointing out what more efficient processors really mean in the long term. Power is not unlimited neither economically nor in regard to ressources (even if it’s renewable energy). Especially now it’s stupid to reach more frames by just pumping in more watts. You will pay a significant amount of money in the long term. To become more sustainable, everything in our daily lives needs to be more efficient. So at least from that perspective, Apples approach seems more sustainable.
I love the genuine criticism you give Jonathan. I love Apple products much like you but don’t consider myself an “Apple fanboy”. I just appreciate their strengths. And, as with so many other things in life: bemoan the weaknesses. Thanks for being a great part of LMG!
I think is really easy to hate on Apple because they sell themselves as a "simply superior product". That said, I admire your approach on rightfully pointing out that what you expect, what they want you to think of them and what they actually sell are not the same.
I feel what separates this channel from a 'hater' perspective is that the vibe I'm getting is less so "apple sucks" and more so "apple should and could do so much better"
And this is why this is the best Apple channel in all of RUclips. You're a fan, but not a fanboy. You know what you're talking about and know when things aren't right. Never stop being amazing Jonathan and everyone else at Mac Address.
This was such a welcome video! I live LTT and all the channels including this one. And when you first started I loved your energy and enthusiasm. It was clear you loved the products. Those make the best reviewers, those passionate about what they review while also being able to speak to the downsides. But in that order. If the video is too heavy with criticism (unless something is truly a disaster) than instead of it being an enjoyable review video it just sounds like someone being a hater. Recently the cynicism was coming on so strong it was hurting the credibility of this channel and you as a reviewer. Though as you pointed out in your video too there are differences between nitpicking and actual flaws. This video gives me hope we will get a return to your original perspective and love of reviewing Apple products while still feeling comfortable talking about areas of improvement, but in a way that is enjoyable. One thing I like about most LTT videos is the love and Ernst that go into reviews but they will talk about what they level and then add in the “and here are some things I would love to see in the next version to make it better”. Or fixes to the next version if the product is truly bad.
Thanks Jonathan & team! 💜 Great video. I think patience will be rewarded. Apple is just getting started with the M line. Also: chip shortages might have kept them from rolling out a more diverse portfolio, like the Studio with an M1 Pro.
My step mother bought a toaster, bean grinder, and coffee pot from a company called Smeg. Man did they make the kitchen pop. Premium materials a retro look and the belief that it costs more so its better. The $350 bean grinder broke after 2 uses. Making your products out of premium materials makes little difference if you overpay for it and it breaks.
I use to be a huge Mac head. I still love Mac os x, but at the end of jobs life, the company went from a tech company to a lifestyle company that produced tech. Product ranges that don't make sense to awkward design choices. Maybe when they finally release a 2 in 1 with Mac os I will be happy.
there was an amazing sponsor segment in that has apple changed or have i changed line, the fact it wasn't taken really shows this show is really a different style then LTT
This production Quality, the Narration, Skript, Presentation, Sound and everything else is why I think MacAdress is so much better than most videos on the LTT channel! Don’t get me wrong I‘m not saying LTT is bad but this puts everything on a new level! The videos are always well thought out with valid criticism and showcasing of real life applications and not just pure spec-sheets. This is why this channel is one of the only 3 that I have the Bell enabled! Thank you so much for your hard work, to the whole team!
The Mac Studio isn't for everyone but it is for me. I currently have a Mac Studio Max on order. I upgraded the GPU to 32 cores and the RAM to 64Gb but stayed with the 1TB SSD drive. I thought $400 to upgrade to 2TB was steep. If it was like $200, I'd go for it. That's one thing about Apple that annoys me. I'm spending a ton of money on a computer, don't screw me over with exorbitant cost of small upgrades. My reason for the Studio is I do film restoration works and spend a lot of time in DaVinci Resolve doing color grading of 4K film scans and need all the horsepower I can get (or afford). Resolve version 18 is now optimized for the M1 processor. I should see a huge increase in performance over the iMac Pro we were using.
Man I remember in Y2k era putting a CRT touchscreen under the dashboard in my hearse and pc and inverter in the deck below. Long before mp3car/carputers/infotainment even wifi was a thing. Winamp on a CRT touchscreen for a headunit lol .. I got pulled over, pretty sure it saved me from a curfew violation as the cop was so confused and told me to go home. I was 16/17 or so.
So in South Africa, we get extended, planned power cuts because our government is bad and the state-owned power company is also bad. In my area, this is often accompanied by internet outages as well, since my area doesn't have fibre and the LTE I rely on also stops working sometimes. This once resulted in me taking my desktop to a golf course where my friend works so I could continue my work. I work from home and I need the power of my desktop.
So I just bought my first ever Mac computer because of how nice the m1 chips are. Ever thought of making some videos of what to expect /understand from going from pc to Mac? (I still have my windows desktop, but my main computer I use for school/work is now a MacBook pro 14)
There is nothing wrong with appreciating Apple while also keeping them honest. Your point about Apple essentially leaving a gapping hole in their desktop product lineup between the mac mini and the Mac Studio resonated with me as well. I can't tell if Apple is being short sighted, greedy, or just taking a very long time to come up with a good offering.
Mac Address: I wanted to say, it will all depend on perspective too. I for example Run Protools and am not used to/having issues with running it on my current Pc. I miss the OS and pro tools running on my iMac 2015. I haven’t touched any of the Apple silicon yet. After the final FATAL ERROR which cause my project (for a job) to corrupt. All based on how the Pc side does the audio compatibility with windows, I am ready to go back to mac. I (following your advise on another video) went for the refurbished route and found a m1 max mac studio with 32 core gpu, 32gb ram, and 1 tb of storage. All for $2049. I also bought it through a friend who works for them. Got the computer for $1835. For me all that power for that price, and I get back to the OS I was raised with (I, as a kid, was on my fathers computer with Mac OS 7!) so I am excited for this world. For the price to performance of the Ultra, I 100% agree. If you do the refurbished route and find a deal/ are at home in the Mac OS, it is a beautiful product. (Btw for context, I still have a Mac Cinema Display so I didn’t need to buy the Studio display but tbh I may get that sometime soon too)
Great video Johnathan! I am not a self described Mac person yet have a iPad and a 2016 MBP, I can’t kill the thing. I prefer windows still and though I game seldom, lack of gaming support on steam is still its biggest flaw. I don’t knot if it’s cynicism or not but I enjoy your openness and honesty.
I wound up with a Mac Studio all because I wanted a dual monitor set up. The Mac Mini didn't offer enough I/O for dual monitors, and it's so difficult to find monitors that support daisy chaining. The Mac Studio isn't the computer I wanted, but it's what I got. Still, I'd rather a desktop between the Mini and the Studio. Apple seems oddly unwilling to serve that demographic. I also think back to the original Mac Mini and iMac lineup which offered some upgradability. If Apple had enabled the second SSD port, that would've been greatly appreciated even if you had to go in store for the upgrade. I came from a Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro, where I paid $500 for an extra 8GB of ram, only for Apple to add that into the base model a few months later in the Early 2014 update. Customers weren't refunded or given a credit. It's easy to be disappointed in Apple. They've continually prioritized new sales over pleasing their long term fans.
Weirdest place where I set up my computer was my parents backyard... at -17C winter. Performance using Lightroom was amazing but eventually I had to switch to a harder load so cpu and gpu would heat up hdd's. Even had a bottle of rum and hookah, life was good.

If you think people come to watch Jonathan in hopes of being told what to think, you are greatly disconnected from most of his viewer's mentalities. Go rant about sheeple elsewhere 🤦🏽
I dislike Macs with a passion, but I still watch Jonathan. His style is pretty distinctly amazing :)
@Jaquan Kelsor At no point did they it even affected their opinions. If you're going to try to imply other people are stupid, you might want to start with proper reading comprehension.
MKBHD: "check out our big studio"

Really loved this episode. As someone who used to watch they keynote every year with excitement, i've also found myself surprised with my lukewarm reactions to recent products. This is despite a heavy investment into their ecosystem and a deep love of their products. I think you have a great style, and your more measured perspective makes you trustworthy. Keep up the good work :)
As someone with a deep love of Mac, doesn't it bother you how Apple is moving everything to M1?
-M1 is terrible for gaming
-M1 gpu is weak, compared to NVidia/AMD
-M1 can't run Boot Camp
-M1 can't run 100% of Windows apps
-M1 has lots of issues, bugs
Intel-based Macs were so much better, in a variety of ways.

Mac Studio is a desktop computer, so *nobody* *cares* if it is more energy efficient. If you run Blender or Maya, Mac Studio for $5000 or $7000 totally *LOSES* to NVidia RTX 3080 or 3090. The Windows PC costs 1000's of dollars less too.

"Wouldn't you rather watch someone who is ecstatic about it [whatever they are presenting]? "
No, definitely not. I ALWAYS prefer cynical and highly critical over ecstatic. It almost always shows that it's actually proper coverage and not just hype.
It's MUCH more important to know the flaws of most products (especially premium products) than the advantages/great things about it.
I personally didn’t feel it was cynical but more finally noticing issues after being frustrated with their bad decisions.
As cool as their products and software are, I can't help but feel like the decisions they sometimes make are from a magic eight ball

I thought I lost the sale, but they asked if they could call if they got home and still had a problem. I said "sure" and never heard from them again. I hope the computer made that family happy. The machine was in great condition.

No Apple is just testing the limits of its customer base' patience.

So at least from that perspective, Apples approach seems more sustainable.
energy isnt unlimited no there is finate amount but dont be afraid humans dont use all that much
I love the genuine criticism you give Jonathan.

There is no midrange products in Apple. The target customers are in 3 tiers: Average consumers, Individual pro user and Pro Company users.

How did he film at the beach without the wind in the mic..?
