In this video we explore what was once one of the most coveted filters in the history of EURORACK. Whimsical Raps MANNEQUINS Three Sisters Linked Filters. What a mouthful.
In a nutshell, it is a great sounding filter with the only quirk being that it can get easily overloaded or have deep resonance in unexpected spots, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on what one is after. It definitely has more character than the two other stand alone filters I own, Bastl Ikarie and Mutable Ripples V2.
Quoting the most clear description of what it does:
THREE SISTERS
LINKED FILTERS FOR SPECTRAL MIXING AND RESONANT SCULPTING
Three Sisters related to, and reflections of, one another. Together carving spectral spaces, reorganising and deconstructing tones. A kaleidoscopic lens into your world of sound.
Three filters, of switched modes, independently input and returned. FREQ pushes all three, traveling together, while SPAN repels forcing sources into isolation. ALL ins and outs are global, cohesive, united. Formant passes three bands, 4 poles a piece, sounding vowels with wide SPAN. All are transformed beyond with QUALITY - more for resonant emphasis into ringing harmonics - less for the anti-filter, white-on-white, fade to dry-simulacrum.
With high QUALITY the Sisters form a choir, singing in pure tones - three tones, in harmony or discord. CENTRE maintains the alto counter-point, greater than its sum, driving SPAN to introduce a cacophony of FM bell tones and hyper-stereo effects. Psychoacoustics of parallel bands will eerily disconcert when spatialized effectively.
Variable shelves and razor-band response can be designed with smart self-patches. Equalizing peaks and process-heavy notches are only a cable away. Swim to the edge, climb the ladder, and dive back in. Видеоклипы
GREAT video. Probably the best about the three sisters!
Wow, I will take that high compliment, thanks!!
One of the best videos I've seen about this filter(s). Great and amazing as always with your videos!
Thank you so much!
still one of the sexiest sounding filters in eurorack
Is this the 2024 edition Sisters? Apparently it's less easy to overload these days and just pushes into nice overdrive. I've got one on the way - fingers crossed!
Hmm. That is a very interesting and subtle update to the circuit...
Shit i wish i knew.. i just bought an old one on reverb
Love it mate. Love Mannequins modules 👌
I know, they are great modules with their own unique temperament and mystique.
@@RPGould3 And warm up time (Mangrove)!!
Oh Yeah!
Love all mannequins, I have JF and it is just so good, and versatile.
Just Friends was a big part of this patch. Definitely a great module!
the best films
That resonance will always be god tier - such gnarly sonics going on in my ears with this one, beautiful patch & sample work (that awesome wurlitzer-y arp/tape sound from Endless Proc at the end? or from the Magneto buffer?)
Yes! Most likely a mix of both!
where are those percussive sounds coming from in the beginning few minutes?
It''s all coming from pinging the filter.
@@RPGould3 even the tiny clicks and pops?really my question is what exactly are you feeding the Three Sisters?
@@NealCaen Yes, all of it. I don;t remember exactly how I had it it patched but I am guessing it was probably some clocked gates and envelopes from Just Friends.
@@RPGould3 I also ask because I see some knob movements from you on the magneto. But you’re essentially saying you patched it into itself like feedback?
@@NealCaen I remember now, yes, the gates are from the clock outs on the Magneto, and they are going into some of the inputs and some of the CV controls on the Sisters. But there is also audio going through the filter.
there's nothing like it, so much so that this company and makenoise keep me in eurorack :C
That is a fair point!
