Maybe it was for the sake of pacing but I do think the original's introduction of El Gigante where the villagers are trying to pull it out and it just decimates all of them really sells that it's a 'failed experiment'. Something extremely powerful yet totally unwieldy.
I thought so too. An experiment gone wrong and out of control. The remake does a good job having the Plagas Shaman controlling it but was less effective.
As much as I enjoy the original El Gigante’s introduction, I never understood why it would turn on its fellow Ganados, who also suddenly act afraid despite otherwise having no self-preservation. Whether the giant itself was a successful bioweapon or not, it should still be under the direct control of its Plaga, which serves the hive-mind and eventually cannot be resisted by any amount of willpower. So I think that if the remake were to include that part from the original, an additional explanation would have been appreciated to fill that plot hole. Like perhaps there could be a note from Luis, stating that he sabotaged the prototype El Gigante’s Plaga in the lab, so the parasite’s control would be much weaker. But after Saddler caught on to the defect, he corrected it in all the later El Gigante’s Plagas.

Both versions had a cool idea. I prefer the villagers being unable to contain it when they let it loose but also the shaman is neat too. Would have been cool if they did both. The villagers let it out and the sound of the door shutting makes it wig out and go berserk. Then the shaman tries to take control but fails and it murders everyone. Also what did they expect to happen after? Say El Gigante kills Leon. Then what? Unstappably decimates the rest of the village and church? They NEED Leon to kill it once it's loose lol

YO, IT'S DA DOG!!!
