CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When the pageant official (Beth Grant) demands that Olive (Abigail Breslin) be removed from the stage, the family joins in on the dance instead.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
When a pudgy, bespectacled seven-year-old, Olive (Abigail Breslin), voices her desire to take home the coveted Little Miss Sunshine crown at an upcoming beauty pageant, her wildly dysfunctional family sets out on an interstate road trip to ensure her a clear shot at realizing her dreams in former music video directorial team Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris' quirky feature debut, starring Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, and Toni Collette. Despite early career success as an outspoken motivational speaker, family patriarch Richard (Kinnear) continues to cling to his "Refuse to Lose" philosophy, much to the chagrin of his increasingly annoyed spouse, Sheryl (Collette). Add into the mix a Nietzsche-reading teenage son (Paul Dano) who has taken a vow of silence until he finds his fate as a fighter pilot; a horny, heroin-happy grandfather (Alan Arkin) with a penchant for creative profanity; and a suicidal genius (Carell) and Proust scholar still reeling about losing both his male lover and his MacArthur Foundation genius grant -- and the stage is set for a road trip in which sanity is sure to take the back seat.

Iove how her routine is more explicit- but in contrast to the other girls- it's still so much more innocent.
Yeah, she still looked and moved like a child. The other girls were dolled up to look like adult models and coached to walk and move like adult models.
perfectly worded
@@DivinePearl its all Cuties again
Great comment.
@Dana Barry Or rather, 100 times more innocent than those other girls’ performances.
It was nice that the dj didn’t cut off their music and applauded them.
the dj himself is fed up with the contest it doesn't matter if he did or did not cut the music
The DJ was such a nice guy along with Miss California
He's a music fan and is happy to finally hear some Rick James.
In the movie, before that scene, he tells the family : " I'm not working for these people next year. "
He hates the contest in the movie so I think he was happy they pissed everyone that runs it off so well.
The dad completely redeeming himself as a true loving father in this scene always gets me emotional
Really loved Greg Kinnear in this movie!
Just needed to get his focus off his job as many dads has to :)
You don't get emotional calm down loser
Class film
I know right, Richard, he finally stands up for himself on this scene. Throughout the movie he just seemed kind of wimpy until this point. But now he finally stands up for himself, and not just himself, his daughter too.
In the end that was the perfect way to honor the memory of Grandpa.
valdie91285 but a derogatory way
@@stefantomasi4036 srsly, I guess he would have come alive and killed them all had they decided to give him a sombre funeral with no fun like this. After all he liked it kinky.
This movi is for me a teacher in art
What, to give paedophiles what they desire?
You do realize that Grandpa was a dirty old man and would approve of the movie Cuties.
So many subtle good parts, but 1:48 when the brother jumps in the middle of his family is especially heartwarming, considering he called them all losers and said he hated them. And now he is his happiest right in the middle of his family.
Because in the end it was love that grounded him. He went through a soul crushing trial by learning he was color blind and that his dream was derailed.
I love ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ this movie and the family dynamic. They are all such fantastic actors in their own right, but when you put them all together it makes fir one of the best 👌 👍 😍 films 🎥 🎞 🎦 🎬 ever made. Akan Arkin is a treasure, Greg Kinnear is perfect as the father and Toni Collette is great in anything 😀 she stars 🌟 in. Steve Carrell is so good as his character, and what can I say about Abagail Breslin, loved her since she was in Signs and she said those magic words " there's a monster outside my window, can I have a drink of water?". That brings me to the awesomely 👌 👏 👍 😍 💖 🤣 fantastic and in my opinion., the best actor of his generation ❤️ 👏 ❤️ 👏. The talented and often underrated Paul Dano 👏 ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️. The cast was so perfect, what else can I say 😀 except run don't walk to see this movie if you've been living under a rock and somehow missed watching this fabulous movie. You're 🙏 🤗 welcome. Love ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️. Catch Paul Dano in his many indie films and mainstream movies, of course recently The Batman, he's The Riddler and he's marvelous darling 😀 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️.
Well, that's The Riddler when he was a teenager!😄👍💖💓
that's the point???
@@victoriamcdevitt5382 no conocía a Pol Dano hasta ver Batman ni había visto Little Miss Sunshine pero me ha encantado. Todos los actores increíbles y gran argumento. Ahora me estoy viendo todas las películas de Paul Dano
the best part about the end is that you just know the grandpa would’ve bragged about the fact that his choreography for a child beauty pageant act got his granddaughter banned from competing in the state of california for the rest of his life
Yeah he for sure would have lol.
The two employees who liked it applauded the complete innocence of olive and stance of the family in such an exploitative contest. The metal guy at the end admired the guts and bond of the family. Perfect climax to a movie.
I always got pedo vibes from the metal dude. The film kind of hinted at it when Richard said hi to him and asked him if he had a kid in the pageant and he didn’t
@@angelican3874 The character is listed in the credits as Biker Dad, so I guess he does have a kid in the pageant. I looked him up because I thought he looked like Josh Breslin. He's not, though.
Angelica N I saw the movie last night I definitely did not get that vibe he seemed more like a parent who was sick of going to the paegents
@@angelican3874 "pedo vibes"? He's credited as Biker Dad and is cheering for a family having fun in a stupid popular contest.
@@angelican3874 he's not the pedo, the male judge is (hence why he looks excited when she starts to dance like that).
i love how olive doesn’t even care that her routine didn’t go to plan, she was just happy to dance with her family
Yeah, I think that detail kinda sums the movie’s message up. Also, I love your profile pic!
The dad moving his elbows is one of the most satisfying cinematic moments ever.
I only just noticed the showman reaction, and it's just 👌😂🤣
Dwayne’s hip thrusting & the face he’s making is perfect, so hilarious
First time I saw it I really couldnt contain myself. It was so funny!!
literally hes so funny i love him
Such a handsome man tho
@@shanelle-rae3309same here 😂
And not as creepy as when MJ does it, because here it's a joke.
Theme of the overall movie: fuck society and its rules, don't try to be perfect, just dance.
Right on brother.🤘
@@DinoZombieVA I'd only believe in a god that can dance.
~~ Some Moustache Boi
Wrong
@@GotFlow5 okay what then? cos that is literally said and shown in the movie, just in different words
“You just gotta keep livin’, man. L-I-V-I-N.”
-Wooderson from Dazed & Confused
I love the middle judge who just gets really into it XD
TalkingToMyself I love how she’s miss California too
Because she thinks being slutty is very cute. Anyway, jokes aside, she was just having fun watching a little girl performance full of inocence~
she vibin
She was already impressed by Olive even before the competition started...
I'm kinda surprised Dwayne joined in because a lot of teenagers would be embarrassed dancing with their parents. I think he just did it because of Olive.
Am someone with a brother. I can assure you if he was on stage making a fool of himself I would most certainly join.
100% as a older brother you would do anything for your little sister plus we know she means a lot to him since she calmed him down
❤️ Big bro supporting his little sis.
I think he thought this contest was stupid, and if u see tha way he is dancing, he is tauting the viewers
Teenage angst will channel the little anarchist within 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
This scene had me in tears, man. After all each member of this family has been through, all their losses and dissapointments. They found happiness. Not having a care in the world. And being united as a family. The Grandpa is also there in a sense. It's just so cathartic.
When the guy claps he almost looks like the grandpa to me for some reason.
I mean he was in the trunk of their car....
Me too it made me laugh and cry at the same time
one of the best scenes of any film imo
i’d like to dedicate this to my grandpa- who showed me these moves
they must of had a lot of fun filming this
I have always thought the same, I imagine all the laughs of the extras too...
Che Alejandro i know right? i seriously envy them for having such a great experience and memory in their life
Yummy Sounds up
you must of not wented to skool, huh?
Apparently Greg Kinnear did not lol. He was so self conscious about his dancing that he requested the scene be cut from the film...
The hypocrisy in the audience where they watch all these young girls prancing around sexually, then they're somehow even more offended when Olive throws that sexuality in their faces with an overt, shameless dance and makes them confront what they're actually doing, and their refusal to acknowledge that, is so on-point. I love this movie.
Grandpa was smart
This scene is one of my favourites from any film EVER! It's not only hilarious but so heart-warming when watched in the context of the whole movie. Despite the family having all their ups & downs & arguments...when it comes down to it they are there for each other & it's really beautiful! Gives me goosebumps actually when the dad, uncle & bro all start joining in! Arghhhh!! I just LOVE it! Will have to watch this film again now 😀
Judith Barnes me too
antonela bakavic it's such a classic scene 😊
Judith Barnes yep. You described it so well. Not only that it is a beautiful scene, but it is the most important part of the whole movie and the the story behund it. It describes so deeply and emotionally all of the characters, their personalities, family love and bonds, child innocence...as well as the shallowness and hypocrisy of the society, double standards, in a very original and heartwarming way. Ever since I saw it for the first time, it made me love the superfreak song, only because of this scene.
Exactly
Everything you just described is everything I was feeling. Just as the dad and everyone else joined in, I had a huge smile on my face, my face felt warm and I got absolute goosebumps all over in that exact moment. And then I yelled, "God, I love this movie!!" Many movies have given me many different emotions and reactions, but I have never felt that way, whilst also shouting, "God I love this movie!"
Completely broke, lost you father, lost your love, lost your dream and you realize you have nothing else to lose but everything to live for. Coming out of all the odds just to celebrate what's left as a family. This moment defines real happiness and satisfaction, a meaning of life and what it means to be alive. Such a treat to eyes!
Perfectly said brother.
Dwayne jumping in the middle of his family dancing never does not make me cry
Frank is the cutest uncle and Dwayne's just the brother everyone needs. Such beautifully played characters.
If it wasn't for the trip or if it wasn't for Olive, the dad would've taken the bankruptcy pretty hard, and probably the mom and the dad would've separated. If Dwayne found out he was colorblind during the application to the flight academy, most probably it would've been pretty devastating (or even suicidal), instead because of Olive he found out early and because of Olive, he took it well. The uncle would've stayed in that depression, God knows for how long. Well, grandpa, grandpa was old. So, Olive in a way saved them all because they would do anything for her. They would forget that they are bankrupt, suicidal, depressed, old, addicted, tired, and sad just to protect her. This is the sweetest movie ever. It warms my heart.
Your comment is one year old but I want to say that you wrote it beautifully and it encompasses everything the film is.
What about frank
@@WarriorBanefrank is the uncle
So according to them what Olive does is taboo, but all those other girls who dress in these tight outfits and wear too much makeup and look like they’re in their mid-20’s is considered okay?
scifinerd17 you can see the hypocrisy in this beauty pageant and probably beauty pageants in real life, it’s ridiculous
Not necessarily just Beauty Pageants of course.
It's a look between Individuality and Conformity.
yes
i had the sentiments of the nice worker who allows them to join even if they are late to register who the lady says he doesn't have to let them in and he goes...i am leaving/quitting...these people are all crazy
scifinerd17 You are right! This is a good way to show the hypocrycy of society. Cuties clips are bad. They disgusts me!
I love the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment at 1:41 where the stage hand is laughing and enjoying the scene, but immediately feigns seriousness and outrage when the pageant official turns around.
I didn’t notice that’s actually hilarious
Channeled her inner snail
i noticed that too and it's very hilarious
now this is what a family should be
It's funny how Alan Arkin isn't present in this scene, and yet it's the scene where you feel his character's presence the most. Also seeing Dwayne jumping around will never not be heartwarming to me, it's the only time we really see him let go and enjoy himself. I'm so glad Paul Dano's finally getting the recognition he deserves after his turn as the Riddler, it's been a long time coming.
I love that in the end there problems were not solved but they learned to live with them none the less.
I love this scene because the whole family celebrates the unique nature; even though as adults they all know how alienating it can feel to be different.
I used to watch this movie all the time when I was a little girl and it so deeply resonated with me. Olive wasn’t your stereotypical skinny little blonde girl, she was unique in her personality and her looks and beautiful. She was surrounded by dysfunction but it made her special and wiser. There are so many good themes in this movie about being who you are and breaking free from social norms and beauty standards
They not only honoured the memory of Grandpa, Richard stopped caring about that “There’s winners and losers” crap, and supported his daughter.
The lady that brought her to the stage, the beauty veteran, that metal, hearing-aid guy and the one that let them participate enjoys the dance. Not everyone is going to hate it in the end.
I love how the DJ and Miss California both loved it.
Best. Scene. Ever.
Damn Right
I love the fact that in the end, the dad just wanted her to be able to finish her dance, mostly because he knew what it meant to her, basically growing him from his winner/looser mentality...
This is quite possibly one of the greatest cinematic moments in history.
I agree 100%
I concur.
YEAHHHHHHHHH ALL RIGHTTTT!
HHHHHHHHH I just watch the movie for the 4th time
Best part
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ALL RIGHT!
the dj, chick with the headphones, the "yeah all riiiight guy, and the ms.californialady that told her she eats ice cream were so chill everyone else was just over reacting, they didn't wanna have any fun at all
The way Dwayne points at one of the judges before doing that awesome thrust is just the best.
He's my favorite when he takes the stage! Such an awesome scene!!!! 🤣
One of the happiest scenes in cinema history , I can’t help but smile.
1:33 Paul Dano and Steve carell lmfao
Totally awesome!
the guy at the end haha
YEAAAH ALL RIGHT
Hahahaha I died 😂!
He was a pedo... I smiled when he said to the dad "First Time?"...haha
Ha ha nce😍😍😍😍😍
That's Wallace Langham. Hodges on CSI.
"Keep dancing honey, Daddy's ok"
Hahahahaha
hahaha i loved this scene especially the fact that dwayne joined in 😭😭
Yes!!!!
I’m amazed
I love that no one in the family thought to preview GRANDPA'S choreography lol
I love how the actual beauty queen judge is enjoying the performance. She was also nice to Olive when she asked her if she liked ice cream.
I love how the actual Miss World contestant/winner, the one who said she loved ice cream, is totally into it. At 00:00:52 you can see her smiling and bobbing her head.
The fact that Abigail Breslin got herself an Oscar nomination for her performance was just fantastic. She and Alan Arkin truly stole the show
“Sometimes you’ve just gotta be the boss of dancing” - Michael Scott
froboythestud love that quote
😁😁😁😁
The best comment !
I love this scene. Shows how hypocritical people are. These pageants are sick because they sexualize little girls, but when Olive performs her number then it becomes too obvious and embarrasses the competition establishment.
Exactly. I love this scene for just that reason, when it's so obvious why the pageant head wants Olive taken off stage. She wants Olive gone, not when the song ends, not in just a minute, IMMEDIATELY, because the longer Olive dances, the more time the audience has to realize how creepy and gross the whole enterprise is. That's why she had the urgency she did.
2:09 that's all of us who loved this scene
1:21 the highlight of the movie is when Dwayne breaks into a full thrust lol
I like the way of Miss California is supporting them while they're dancing on stage
One of the best movie climaxes of all time.
this scene never fails to make me cry gosh this movie is perfect
Seeing the most tortured individuals in this film have so much fun and supporting each other gives me chills every single time! 1:22
I love how everyone thinks THEY'RE the weird ones, its great, awesome movie
I love the way you watch the first 98% of this movie thinking “Geez, I thought my family was messed up but we have nothing on this family!”
Then, the last 2% you think “Geez, I wish my family was this cool!”
Came for childhood crush on Dwayne and still here because I love the whole message of this masterpiece 💖
The whole scene is hilarious, but every time the brother does his epic thrusts, I lose it! That's what you do when your girl's mad at you, but you're fuckin' Awesome! XD
No film has made me smile as much as this one
The 3 best things about this scene you know you love:
1. Family despite their differences coming together and supporting each other in the face of social adversity.
2. Honoring Grandpa even though he is no longer alive despite his vices ( i thought he was gangster AF lol )
3. THAT COWBELL THO'!
Grandpa would have been proud! RIP Mr. Arkin 💙👍
I had to watch this movie for a school and, honestly, I though I wouldn't like it. I fell in love with it, I watched it two additional times! It is an amazing movie with a beautiful message and is wonderfully executed.
How would you not think you would like it? The story sounds amazing and the reviews were astoundingly positive
Same. I thought it would be lame because it was for a school project but here I am watching it 15 years later and tearing up lol.
I cannot help crying and laughing evertime I watch this scene.
I completely forgot about the guy with the random shout of support at the end and spat out my drink laughing.
1:18 Dwayne is amazing dancing 😆😆😆😆😆
My favorite moment among many from this film! Dwane was an awesome kid!
Grandpa last final joke!!!
“Yeahhh!! All right!!” I love the biker dad! In an earlier scene he says something to the effect he was going to die of boredom following his wife and daughter around on the pageant circuit, watching the same little girls prance around all done up and twirling batons. Olive’s routine must have been a little oasis for him. 😂
1:18 Great The Riddler👏👏👏
Riddler's got some moves
Seriously one of the best scenes in movie history.
man this scene is really touching. It shows how the family supports each other in the end. I would really wish my family was like that, im going through some really harsh times with my family. Really hope i can see this comment in years and by that time realize that my family was like this all through my life.
"Keep dancing honey, daddy is okay" 🥺♥
It was Olive in the end that united them. They learned to let go of their worries for a minute and just have fun together.
Every time I doubt my skills as a father, I look at this scene again and recover force. This is pure love from the dad to his daughter. Since I am a father, I cannot look at this scene without getting emotional.
i love the YEEEEAA ALRIGHT! guy thats me all the time.
One of the best movies I've ever seen.
I don't know why this made me cry.
Same here, and I also got chills
I also cried and I don't know why.
I guess because they were all miserable facing the worst days of their lives and the only one who was happy was their little daughter. They were protecting her happiness. I start crying when the dad start dancing
Because they are family taking care of each other
Because you’re human
I LOVE HOW MISS CALIFORNIA JUST VIBES WITH THEM TOO 😭
Cinematic brilliance !!! The whole scene is so rich
This is gotta be one of the greatest movie endings of this century , At the end the family finally comes together to support Olive .
This scene gets me every times. No matter what other people look at you, it's pointless. You're the family. You know each other. The most important thing is you're being happy together.
Olive: My grandpa showed me these moves.
Announcer: where is your grandpa?
Olive: In the trunk of our car.
I love how they're making a joke out of the pageant. I would definitely do that as well.
I love how uncle Frank humming "super freak" with a sassy face to mrs jenkins before joined them to dance
1:11
The Number 1 Proust scholar in America has had enough of your shit!
takigan best comment
literally thought he'd flip them off
This movie is a masterpiece… And this scene is oddly heartwarming
2:02 The sound engineer understood the purpose of what they did "fun and family reunion"
I love how, in between all the shocked and horrified faces, you can see that a few people are really into it and find it funny. Like the DJ, the stagehand, that one guy in the crowd and you can see that Miss California is really into it as well and clapping along at one point.
Love how they subvert this whole creepy pageant thing
Every body needs a friend who goes yeahhhhhh alright🤣
this was the moment that the wife fell back in love with her husband....
I f-cking love paul dano in this
The guy at the end had me dying
I love the reactions of the girl who brought her to stage
I cry every time I watch this scene, it's fucking amazing
An imperfect family coming together perfectly. In that one glorious moment all ego, pride and pain is put aside to just dance in a way that says "this is who I am and I'm proud to be different". They'll each treasure that memory for the rest of their lifetime. 💝
Dwayne's face though....I...I just can't.
Abigail Breslon doesn't get the recognition she deserves for this scene. My family was falling on the floor laughing in the theater at this scene, including my prude mom. We know it's a MOVIE! And we kids were born between 80-85, so we were like, what, her brothers age when this movie came out? Bravo, Abigail!
I'm guessing that Abigail was born during either in the early 2000s or in the late 1990s:(while I myself was born in the early 2000s):
The scene right after is the best-Police Officer: "Well,we've decided we'll let you off this time,on condition that you agree not to enter your daughter in another beauty pageant in California, ever." Frank: "Hey,I think we can live with that!" Well,at any rate, they would have to,like it or not,if they knew what was good for them.
I dont think the family seemed at all bothered with that ban, seeing that they've already achieved that little girl's dream. The icing on the cake was when they drove right thru that barrier arm and the organizer was like wtf? 😂😂😂
One of the best scenes in film history. I always go to this for a pick-me-up.
