Speaking of both 3M and QA. I can tell you from working in a 3M plant. That our QA is just stupidly strict. There MIGHT be a defect in one item in an entire pallet load... Whole thing is pulled off and sorted from first box to last box. Even if we find the defect in the first 5 boxes we still sort the entire pallet just to be safe. The quality control checks we do for each order is absurd(in a very good way) Make sure you are buying from trusted companies. We take QA for safety products VERY seriously and pull products from the line daily for random checks.
For anyone who is watching this and wants low profile MIL-PRF glasses with full seal, look into the Bolle Combat Tactical Safety Glasses with the Foam and strap kit. You can get the full lens set, with the strap kit for around 50 bucks, or as low as 20 if you just get the strap kit and a spare lens individually (Pricing on safetyglassesusa.com ). These are designed, tested and certified to Ballistic Resistance Standard GL-PD 10-12, MIL-PRF-31013 and ANSI Z87.1-2015. Don't cheap out on protection for something you only get once.
Just in case it helps anyone decide Id recomend Revision Exoshield, full seal, low profile/panoramic frame, comes with velcro head strap has great airflow as well as Revision anti-fog coating which Im led to believe is the best option out there by far.
Don't know if fits within the scope of the video but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts: What do think of lower/ full face protection? I'm specifically thinking in terms of having A) Nothing at all B) balaclava, shemagh or buff C) cheap plastic/rubber full face mask (Army of Two masks springs to mind) or D) mesh, paintball or hard plastic masks Besides issues with cheekweld, airflow or tendency to be uncomfortable, do you find any of these to be particularly untrustworthy or risky? Great topic by the way, always nice to learn about some of the more practical things in airsoft.
On the topic of helmets, as a motorbike rider a $200 helmet really isn't that bad. Most good motorbike helmets run upwards of $600-$1500 at times. One good way of looking at it is how much money do you value your head at. You want to go cheap, just know that you're valuing your own head at $50 or whatever you're paying for it.
Just another suggestion for a fairly cheap option for a real helmet. Surplus ACH helmets can be had for right around 100 bucks. While the stock pads and suspension system is pretty bad in my opinion, upgrading it with aftermarket pads and suspension system can transform the helmet. Switched in the 4D Tactical Zero G pads and the Team Wendy Camfit system and it's a completely different helmet
Helmets are definitely not necessary for most games, but I figure if you're going to wear one you might as well get one that does the job! As for what I'm drinking, it's Rohrbach Scotch Ale, a local brew.
At our last game, one of my squad guys jumped on the MG on our truck without a helmet and got lights out when our technical truck abruptly stopped and backed up. He woke up to several paramedics telling him he has a concussion. And helmets were required for all people riding in the back of a technical at the event...
I started out not wearing them then happened to have one one one day when I took a header sprinting into a connex box and went head first into the wall at top speed. At that time I had a real PASGT with an Oregon Aero BLSS kit in it and I walked away with nothing serious. I switched over to an OPSCORE CARBON BUMP clone from Emerson a few years ago and really like that helmet. It's not real but I've taken a few good wacks when exploring abandoned mines when I was stationed in California and I've stood up or didn't duck low enough many times and the helmet has absorbed that hit for me. IT's a bump helmet not a ballastic helmet no need to go overboard. On the upside the clones (Emerson "advanced" anyway) take all the OPSCORE accessories and aftermarket padding systems like the 4D setup.
@@jeepinbanditrider got a helmet for paintball play and take alot of hits that would left welts and also dinged it in to stuff hanging low during game and walked away un injured thanks to my helmet.
As much as I find this video educational, I can't get over the fact that E House looks and sounds like a slightly younger version of one of my political science professors. Keep up the great work guys!
Totally agree on your point that players are more likely to wear protective gear if it's good and works well. I used to never wear knee pads because my cheap ones were terrible. Ever since I found the Hatch Xtac knee pads, I wear them every time I play and don't even think about it anymore. Can't imagine playing without them now.
You know I have to admit, the only protective gear I have that ISNT a knock off is my Opsman ear/headphones and smith optics OTW turbo fan goggles. My protective mask/helmet is a fast knockoff. But than again I don't do anything beyond normal pickup games that require me to do insane stuff like rapelling. But I decided to NOT skimp on my eye or ear protection. At some point I Might upgrade my helmet.
Mule It’s a Minuteman Watches MM01. This particular model is retired, but I’ve had this watch for 5 years and worn it almost every day, and it’s never let me down. I’d definitely recommend checking them out.
There are actually tactical pro rec helmets available on the market that sell around $70. Tnvc used to sell them and you can order one at optics planet.
If funds are tight, look for the used market. You can find quality military stuff from ebay and military surplus markets all around the world. For example i bought my peltor comtac xp.s for 100€ in finnish military surplus auction, and they are barely even used. Military helmets can be a bit iffy though especially kevlar helmets since the heavy use can and eventually will compromise them and structural integrity can suffer.
I bought some valken sierra tactical goggles 4 years when I had just started for 20 dollars and they have never fogged and i have never got a bb through even after shooting it at full auto at point blank they have never let a bb through.
Thank you for mentioning that there are good inexpensive Z87+ goggles. Most people believe you can't have good eye pro for cheap. If that were true OSHA would shut down every job where they see people wear 3m or jackson nemesis.
PRO tip: the chinese doesnt copy the ESS suppressor only the ESS crossbow (as of Wed UTC 1101 pm). If you want A battle rated sunglasses then go for ESS suppressor. It can be converted into a goggle (optional gasket insert) just like ESS Influx AVG. Probably the best battle rated multi purpose Eye PRO money can buy. ESS supressor is not a google but can be converted (gasket insert).
Have you ever reviewed, or heard of the 3M Combat High Cut Ballistic Helmet? It seems to be pretty good bang for your buck, blunt trauma force protection and ballistic protection.
Why do I need real noise reduction when shooting plastic toy gun? And for radio communication, a Motorola walkie talkie with headset can do the job. (since any other radio equipment is illegal without a license here anyways.)
Here's and idea as far as eye protection goes. ANSI Rated or not, give it a point blank full auto burst from your hardest hitting airsoft gun you can find. If it survives unscathed, it should do at least well enough for airsoft use
Except at that point, you may have compromised it's integrity, and the next shot it receives breaks it. If eye pro is ANSI Z87+ rated, it WILL survive BB impacts, no problems. If it's not ANSI rated and you shoot it, you may weaken it enough that the next shot goes straight through. The simple solution is, don't buy anything that doesn't have the appropriate safety ratings.
I don't know about you, but I test all my eye pro (yes including my Pyramex and my Dye's) personally before I use it, I don't care if they are rated or not If it shows any noticeable damage (not blemish, my Pyramex googles are blemished when I gave it a short burst from 400 FPS ). That google is not worth using. If it survives that I am confident that whatever happens, it will at least not directly punch through the lens. So far I have a good enough luck that none of my stuff (even the cheap China clone ones) shows any kind of noticeable damage. Will I use it for Real Steel shooting? Hell No. For playing with toy guns with a bunch of weird dudes, Hell yes
I'm lucky that my vision is just good enough that I get away with playing without glasses. However, my teammate Kyle wears his glasses while playing, and he always recommends larger framed ESS goggles.
I know I'm late to the party here, but one of the problems with unregulated manufacturing and import of Chinese knock-off products is there are no equivalent standards organizations enforcing false claims of certification. I see Chinese products with bogus SAE and ANSI labeling all the time. And then there are the outright forgeries of major name products. The only way to be sure is to buy a US, Canadian or European brand-name, certified product from a reputable reseller.
I have to buy replica because I'm a kid and don't fit in gear meant for adults. When I can I'll buy non replica but most of the time they don't fit. So don't give me that crap about paying a little bit more or a lot more for the real stuff.
I want a helmet that would provide me protection against falling down on the concrete floor of an indoor field, without breaking my budget. BTW Who is Judy?

Yea protection is important, thanks for the video, my brother and i wear no clones at all, we have real platecarriers with stand alone sapi plates in for our Milsim games. Same for the gloves, kneeprotectors e.t.c. Only compromise wo took, na half compromise is that we use the WarQ helmet (www.warq.eu) made in france. It's made for airsoft and follows all european standard of eye and head protection for not ballistic helmets. So naver had an injurie till now, even not as my brother fell down the concrete stays of an old builing, just a few scratches on the helmet, that was it. But we had issues with others of our team members. Some refused to wear a mask, to protect the teeth and nose, till they get an hit in their face, not nice, bit nessesary that they realized that even on 35 feet a 0.3g BB can hurt a lot, when hit in the face. Only issue with the WarQ helmet's is that they don't protect you from loud sounds, but as you explained already, some good earplugs will do the job. Thanks for the video and hang on.
