Sometimes danny overhypes food. But u can really tell he loved this food! I’ve been here a couple years ago and last month. The food was amazing!! That lamb on bone curry was so so so good!!!!
Well yes it does look like a nice solid 10.. A proper family run business.. As far as I know, gulab jaman is cooked in beef dripping, like a sweet suet dumpling.. I've had this pud many times, years ago when I lived in Manchester; delicious when done right. That lamb looked superb. A lovely home cooked, slow cooked beauty of a dish. Nice one Danny! 👍
Very unlikely it's cooked in beef dripping. Especially the fact that it's a staple dessert in India, a country that forbids eating cows. It's made from milk powder fried and soaked in a sugared syrup.
Rajan is right. A classic Gulab Jamun is made with just a few ingredients, milk solids, sugar, rose water and, cardamom powder. There are many variations but it is extremely unlikely that it is made with beef drippings even in countries where beef is consumed such as Bangladesh and Pakistan. It is meant to be sweet and beef drippings would make it a very strange flavour combination! I worked in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh for 14 years and ate desserts very often!
I was told, by a chef in Rusholme, Manchester's Indian food quarter, that despite the sacred status of the cow, gulab jaman was cooked using beef dripping when an animal had died, and that very rarity in the occasion made it a special thing.. Perhaps there are regional differences in the attitude to this..? 🤔Interesting. 👍

Whenever I go for a curry, I always go to Pakistani restaurant/takeaway. Their way is perfectly cooked with the right amount of spices. The Indian and Bangladeshi places overdo it with chillis so the heat takes away the taste. Great video as always Danny
Having worked for a curry house you know why they use spices etc to take away the taste of cheap and cheerful cuts of meat and ingredients. Most of it comes from local supermarkets and or cash and carry. I also have worked for a pizza joint again all inferior ingredients most of his stock came from lidil he would charge 5 quid plus for a burger and over 3 quid for lidil fries lmao.
