Yes, I’m back to being a maximalist. At 77 years old if I don’t use my accessories now, I never will. I have lots of things that I love, but had put away. I’m getting more and more out and layering. I’m loving seeing all my things out. I’m not worried about being in style or out of style at this time in my life. I have very little visitors, mostly children and grandchildren. I would go with a camel velvet with a slight pattern/texture for the sofa. You already have a dark chair, and you want it to look more collected. The camel will make it present better than anything to dark, and you’ll be glad of how elegant/casual it looks. It will look more custom that way too. ❤

Right away, I got EXCITED when I heard MCM and Art Deco. Together at LAST!!! I was obsessed with Art Deco for so long, but when I found out that Victorian/Edwardian/Craftsman-early American was ALSO fabulous and strangely cheaper and somehow more available, that was where it was at for me. But I've really warmed up to MCM and have rescued a few MCM pieces, like a chrome/Formica yellow broken ice-patterned dinette table, and a REALLY - like WOW - cool MCM coffee table that needs SERIOUS restoration. I also have a late '40s curio cabinet. Finally found my already-restored (phew) dream Art Deco console table WITH side table I use to...watch Arvin videos on. Lolz. Because that's where my TV is set (the mirror is the most). Rescued a beautiful Art Deco tallboy dresser (the wood smells INCREDIBLE on the inside). Been obsessed with Tiger Oak (rescued a c. 1910 mirror-mantle) and Birdseye Maple (RMS Queen Mary-inspired, of course)! I rescued an Edwardian Era humidor AND semi-rescued an Edwardian Era side table (the one item I actually bought for $20 at the Salvation Army). Dang. That's a lot more rescuing than I thought. Ending is NOT better than mending. Anyway! With all these eclectic pieces I am gradually restoring and polishing up, I am trying to fuse these three styles together with slightly more emphasis on the x>1930s items. And I am syked to see Arvin's MCM/Art Deco fusion because I NEED the inspiration so I can figure out how to fuse all these different styles in my own space.

Agree! I'd stress unnecessarily trying to keep the fur off as its so visible with a dark color. Perhaps roll tuffed pillows in a dark color would give the vibe he's going for. I have a fur baby and bought a leather sofa, so I could just wipe it off, because I lost the battle of trying to keep him off the sofa. His fav spot is the corner of the sofa on a big fluffy blanket, that I wash when needed and everyone is happy!
It’s just not worth it! Warm and comfortable means hanging out chilling not chasing the pets off and living with a green bissell cleaner 24/7 ( made that mistake lol)

I know what you mean about black, I have had 3 black tailored leather sofas and I’m tired of it. Great ambiance at night mixed with antiques, but miss fabric and coziness. At night it looks gorgeous during the day more extreme.

I like the cool black because personally, I think it will balance your gorgeous warm space and especially if you’re going to be using the blue cushion pillows which is also cool but a bright cool color.

Yes!!! Love love the mid century/art deco mix!!! There’s an interior designer on RUclips who said in one of her videos that you should never mix those two design styles and I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve been doing it subtlety in my home for the last couple years and I think it looks fantastic. Now that I know that’s the combo you’re going for, I want to do it even more!!

I'm currently redecorating my apartment and am also bringing in some art deco elements, a bit of a midcentury vibe and unexpected, funky touches. Hi Arvin, I’m so glad you’re back!! I really admire you for speaking up about all of this. My husband I purchased our first home; it’s been six months. Everyone keeps asking us when will we buy stuff to fill up our home. If I’m being honest I’m just enjoying finding piece by piece. Just hearing you say don’t rush into things gives me hope we will get to what we want.
I love the turn to maximalism, but more of a curated maximalism, not "there's an empty spot, lets fill it with shit". I think it allows an expression of individualism-- embracing an unapologetically "me" style. Full of texture, art, and whatever colors make us happy. Someone on YT was saying luster is an element we should have, so I added just a touch to my home, and I have to say it worked. When you were in the antiques and art place, I fell in love with that splatter abstract with a touch of red. I totally think you should get it. On your new rug collection, I like that sort of orange one with the crosshatch pattern because of all the texture, the white one with the abstract black lines, the denim color, the alabaster one, and more! So glad we can go on your next journey with you. ❤

Loved this video. I also love the new rugs. I fell in love with the Chestnut Melrose as soon as you showed it so I researched and debated for about a week and then pulled the trigger. I've had it in my living room for about 2 weeks now and I just love it. I'm also planning to get curtains from Twopages now that I've lived in the space for a little bit and my throw pillows just came in so I can pick a coordinating color. Anyway, thanks for posting about such accessible decor. I know what I like but it's hard for me to put it all together so it's nice to get recommendations but for real people. ☺
13:12 - boy do I get it when you say the modern furniture doesn’t fit proportionally to your mid-century house!! I had a real problem with that when I was living in a very tiny 1930s row house in DC. I couldn’t get modern furniture through the front door much less in my tiny living room. The primary bedroom could fit no more than a double bed. I finally had to settle on buying antique 1920s-1940s furniture. Once I did that, everything worked perfectly. I just reupholstered chairs and a sofa and I loved it!

Thank you for touching on the amount of time and care it takes to decorate a home that is new to you. We’ve been in our home for two years and it has been such a slow process because we refuse to bring things in that we do not absolutely love. I think a lot of people will appreciate this approach as opposed to those influencers who scramble to fill a space as fast as possible. It’s just not realistic.

Sofa: I would explore a few more color options - what about a deep olive, or a very deep pumpkin orange/rust. Incorporate some 'water' elements into your home as well, to keep balanced. I truly enjoyed everything about this video - your fashion shots were captivating - like artwork themselves!

Agree! I'd stress unnecessarily trying to keep the fur off as its so visible with a dark color. Perhaps roll tuffed pillows in a dark color would give the vibe he's going for. I have a fur baby and bought a leather sofa, so I could just wipe it off, because I lost the battle of trying to keep him off the sofa. His fav spot is the corner of the sofa on a big fluffy blanket, that I wash when needed and everyone is happy!

I know what you mean about black, I have had 3 black tailored leather sofas and I’m tired of it. Great ambiance at night mixed with antiques, but miss fabric and coziness. At night it looks gorgeous during the day more extreme.

If you can’t post videos at least could you post shorts of Marble and Sage? I missed them too, now Sage looks so much bigger than when you were posting last year. My house is mid70’s, and is concrete and glass, so I am looking to add more wood pieces to add warmth. I love the warm mid century meets art deco style!

Yes!!! Love love the mid century/art deco mix!!! There’s an interior designer on RUclips who said in one of her videos that you should never mix those two design styles and I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve been doing it subtlety in my home for the last couple years and I think it looks fantastic. Now that I know that’s the combo you’re going for, I want to do it even more!!

I'm currently redecorating my apartment and am also bringing in some art deco elements, a bit of a midcentury vibe and unexpected, funky touches. Hi Arvin, I’m so glad you’re back!! I really admire you for speaking up about all of this. My husband I purchased our first home; it’s been six months. Everyone keeps asking us when will we buy stuff to fill up our home. If I’m being honest I’m just enjoying finding piece by piece. Just hearing you say don’t rush into things gives me hope we will get to what we want.

I think it allows an expression of individualism-- embracing an unapologetically "me" style. Full of texture, art, and whatever colors make us happy. Someone on YT was saying luster is an element we should have, so I added just a touch to my home, and I have to say it worked. When you were in the antiques and art place, I fell in love with that splatter abstract with a touch of red. I totally think you should get it. On your new rug collection, I like that sort of orange one with the crosshatch pattern because of all the texture, the white one with the abstract black lines, the denim color, the alabaster one, and more! So glad we can go on your next journey with you. ❤

Loved this video. I also love the new rugs. I fell in love with the Chestnut Melrose as soon as you showed it so I researched and debated for about a week and then pulled the trigger. I've had it in my living room for about 2 weeks now and I just love it. I'm also planning to get curtains from Twopages now that I've lived in the space for a little bit and my throw pillows just came in so I can pick a coordinating color. Anyway, thanks for posting about such accessible decor. I know what I like but it's hard for me to put it all together so it's nice to get recommendations but for real people. ☺
13:12 - boy do I get it when you say the modern furniture doesn’t fit proportionally to your mid-century house!! I had a real problem with that when I was living in a very tiny 1930s row house in DC. I couldn’t get modern furniture through the front door much less in my tiny living room. The primary bedroom could fit no more than a double bed. I finally had to settle on buying antique 1920s-1940s furniture. Once I did that, everything worked perfectly. I just reupholstered chairs and a sofa and I loved it!

Sofa: I would explore a few more color options - what about a deep olive, or a very deep pumpkin orange/rust. Incorporate some 'water' elements into your home as well, to keep balanced. I truly enjoyed everything about this video - your fashion shots were captivating - like artwork themselves!
