This is a subject I am very interested in, yet struggle with. I feel minimalistic images invoke calm, and reflective thoughts. Even so, when I set out to create them, I often fail. Thank you for another great video!
I just love your channel ❤....your topics always hit the spot and are great for challenging your audience to learn ...be well and thanks for being there for all of us ..
Excellent video that should best be seen together with you explanation on negative space. As the Germans say "in der Beschränkung zeigt sich erst der Meister"-) Keep up the good work!
I think this has been your best video for a long time, I found it quite inspiring and it has re-awoken my interest in the challenges of minimalism, thank you
thank you very much again for this interesting video! I pretty much like your way of highlighting the important characteristics of all kinds of subjects/ways of capturing scenes. Sorry, my English is not so good. Anyhow, minimalism is quite fascinating but challenging also. Will give it a try. Your insights are allways great and show your deep knowledge on photography,
I primarily pursue images on the street. A method I’ve been experimenting with is the use of wide aperture combined with neutral density filters in order to isolate the subject. The filters reduce the probability of over exposure; the wide aperture yields shallow depth of field thus isolating the subject from both foreground and background.
thanks for the valued video. i some times fell confused when speaking about simplicity and minimalism . i hope the next video comment in this 2 concepts.
Thank you Peter for very informative V,log,s. Plenty of time to study in lockdown here in the UK, fairly new to Oympus digi photography, whole new learning curve from my Canon SLR day,s in the last century!!
Hi Peter - thank you once again for a fabulously informative video. I agree with others below, one of your most helpful streams. I regularly look forward to your videos as I learn so much. Will send along an image for this assignment. Best wishes.
I have had these assignments in that past. You might want tol look at this video about an ongoing assignment series. ruclips.net/video/bp8CJGylLK4/видео.html
Peter, for me, Max Bill of Bauhaus, represents minimalism. Horology is also an interest of mine. Max Bill was hired by Junghans of Germany to create watch faces. He was very successful.
Shooting with a constraint (one lens/one camera) is a great way to stretch your creative brain. You have to think about the image a lot more when your gear is limited.
Thank you very much... 👍👍🙏🙏👍 Question... , does the "High Resolution" function support long exposure...?? . Thanks... 🙏🙏👋 "Saludos... Buen vídeo..." 👋👋😃👍👌 "Gracias..." 🙏
Always bother to follow your explanations on different topics. It gives a lot of insight into how some situations can be addressed Like this one about minilist Thank you
Thank you so much for your videos. I would have not forgiven myself if I had bought anything else but the Olympus M43 system. Today I bought my Olympus E-PL9 with kit lens and with 45mm f1.8 to begin with. Next I want to buy a circular polarizer, a must for me! I was wondering, have you already made a video about the usage of a polarizer in the past?
Watched this great video too late.. (It will be online in 10, 20 or even more years, unless you delete it). One thing: Macro photography is great for making minimalistic images. I bet you can make a dozen or more great minimalistic images without even leaving your home (or living room or kitchen), as many of us are supposed to nowadays...
@@ForsgardPeter actually, if you do the white-on-white or black-in-black really well, you'll create an incredibly powerful image. It's a technique I've often used in my career as a professional photographer. "Understated" is the term I use. Rick
Interesting. These have a true Nordic Vibe to them that I was first turned on to here when I was visiting my son in Copenhagen fotografiskcenter.dk Mads Peter Iversen, a Danish photographer I follow offers the same Nordic sensibilities: quite, understated and not, unlike many North American photographers, in your face. If I had to encapsulate what I learned while visiting various galleries in DK was that economy of line and space are keys. Thanks for this.
I have been watching lots of videos on minimalistic photography as its an upcoming Photo Club theme. I got some great tips here. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Minimalist photography exposes the soul! Often need lots of patience and time!
You are right. It seems easy and quick, but it can take some time to achieve.
This video gave me a solution for a photo I wanted to take for months. I might even try it today. Thanks.
Great to hear!
Please share it when you're done!

Study michael Kenna's work! It will really help you "see" minimalistic images.

I find the minimal approach is great for Wild life photography. I love to isolate my subject.
I'd like to thank you for the essential but great lesson.

The next one will be about Light & Shadow. You have about a month to make the photograph.

Leave the swan in the photo (excellent image!) ... “minimalistic” with swan, “empty” without.
I agree that the swan should be there. It just an example what the difference is what comes to minimalism.
Nice video! Btw. I think it was Oman, not Yemen. Seen from Jebel Hafeet 😉

0:49 Geometric perhaps? Geographical makes no sense to me in this context.
yes.
It's the classic photograph of a black cat in a coal cellar ;-)
