I brought a solar system just to charge a battery on electric fence and didn't know how to use the blue controller but now I have set it and works fine. Great video
Thank you so much. I fueled jets for 24 years and had no clue about different electrical parameters. You broke it down so an old salty Sailor can put together! Very Respecfully, Rock Lickers Adventure
Very helpful video. Thank You. Before I found your video, I had hooked everything up, and couldn't work out why it did not work. Now I know...BATTERY FIRST. Thanks again.
The clearest video on setting this little bigger I've seen. Within the first minute I k we what my mistake was. Clear and concise. Thank you pal for this gem.
Hello Scott. Great tutorial. Just bought one of this charge controler for my caravan that is seating on a off grid property. The user manual is way to difficult to understand. Your tutorial helped me to understand each of the menu parameters. I took notes and tomorrow will to the caravan and add the settings. Thank you
Excellent video. I just set up a simple set up in my shed but connected the solar panel first The battery was set to B1 which is auto detect 12/24 and my USB would not work. I dissconnected it all and left it a couple of minutes. Connected the battery first and reconnected it all and now all is working very well. Many thanks for this excellent description
Ya me too. They set you up without warning. First thing everybody who are new to solar Is tempted to do is see the solar panels give a reading on the charge controller. Hell I was starting with dead batteries thinking I would just charge them up real quick before committing them to the solar set up. Man this free energy seems to keep costing more and more.
Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this clearly and concisely. I misplaced the booklet that came with mine and couldn’t remember which ‘B’ code applied for an AGM battery. 👍👍
This is the BEST! Thank you so very much! Just got a new Dokio 300 watt kit with very little instructions on the controller. I have 2 flooded batteries in parallel and this is just what I needed!! ❤😊
Well that was the most helpful video i have ever seen , i now feel confident i can set up my controller correctly when it gets here on Saturday , Thank You very much.
Scott, excellent explanation on how to set these chargers. I have been dealing with them and one advice I'd like to share is to be careful on the Discharge Reconnect voltage. If you set it too low, let's say 12.4, the panel is just starting to catch solar radiation and the battery is still exhausted, so you will put the load on the battery that will deplete it in a few minutes or seconds, recycling the process over and over again. Your recommendation on 12.6 is spot on where I have no cycles of on - off.
Another hint regarding the dual USB ports in the front panel. In some of these controllers (10A for instance) they are not considered load, so it will keep providing energy regardless of the battery voltage. But in others (20A) those ports are part of the load, hence they are cutoff once the battery discharges to the discharge stop, the USB will be cutoff.
👍🏼 That’s interesting, do you know why would they be different? Even on a 20A controller, a USB port isn’t gonna pull more power than it would on a 10A.
Hi Johny, I mean a loop when you put load on the panel / battery while they still don't get enough solar power. In that case, if the load is higher than the power generated by the panel, the voltage will keep falling up to the point where the solar controller will shut down the load. This loop may eventually last the whole day, or up to the point when the solar panel gets enough sun radiation to power the load.
Thanks Scott, you helped me figure out my 12v charging solution for keeping 2 12v deep cycle batteries charged. I'm using a portable 100w panel to charge 1 battery with a 400w power inverter and a 10/2 amp 12v charger plugged into it to charger second battery wich is for my inflatable boat. The first battery is also to keep things charged around camp. This is the first day I'm testing it out and it is all working beautifully.
Thank you so much. I'm saved...😊 It's a little different resitting the controller. For me, I have to use 6 steps, on the 7th step, hold on 2-3 second. It will appear 'FF' and it's resetting done. Thanks again 🙏 from Malaysia.
Nice and helpful and useful video. Just what I needed to find the correct battery code for this control box :) Thank you for good info. Yes, I got a lithium iron battery but saw in the manual it was not supported... now i have a GEL battery but couldn't find the code. Thumbs up from me
Brilliant job thanks so much. With your clear explanations on the 6 different screens, I could even setup a different controller with similar like layout. Only difference was the last screen where the Bat type is, my controller has options ut0 / ut1 / ut2 which I have no clue what is what & I left it on ut0. So yeah, please if anyone knows pray tell; I have a flooded bat.
Thank you for the video. I just happened to have the same controller that came with a 20 watt panel. Your video gave me the information I needed to realize this controller will not work with my LiFepo4 7Ah battery. I have a PWM controller for lithium batteries on order.
Good, informative video. I had a second leisure battery added to the first and then bought a solar panel for recharging. First controller worked ok until i managed to wreck it. This one? I can't get it to work - or can i -nor to adjust. readings are as follows 20.6, 28.8, 25.2 and 21.4!!! and b01. Can't get back to factory setting or adjust anything! Screens just blank when attached solely to the battery. Must admit i'm a bit of dumbo when it comes to sparkie stuff!
Dude, you nailed it. This is exactly what I needed to know. I'm an electrician and have been using off grid solar for over a decade but never used a charge controller. The chinese instructions that came with the one I bought didn't explain anything about how to use it or set it up. Thanx! Jeff
how do you get by without a controller amazes me, i dont just use my controller for my solar panel but I also use my controller to charge my usb devices with my battery without solar panel connected
I have the exact same charge controller as the one in this video and it is useless. My solar panels are for 24v system but this charge controller refuses to work with them because the max voltage it allows is 30v. It wont even let me get power from the USB plugs or the LOAD contacts at all. It's nothing but a digital voltage monitor. I use regular wall plug USB power supply blocks to charge or operate items.@@millennium677
Thanks for your educative instructions. I have just bought an MIV Energy MPPT Solar Charge Controller and need your help on how to set the Timer to turn off my security light on at night and off at day break.
Great video, thanks Scott. I am using my controller, battery and solar panel to charge a sealed 12v battery which I then use to power my busking equipment. Does the number of horizontal "bars" in the battery indicate how full/empty the battery is? If yes, how many bars would you recommend that I use the battery for before re-connecting it to the controller and solar panel for re-charging? thanks for your help.
Battery First! got it! good tip. THANKS! I am a Journeyman Industrial controls and haz location Electrician, but these directions are wanting? figured it out a few yrs ago last motorhome. I am thinking of the price per DC watt/amp/and charging and putting a few of these units in parallel. My application is RV in the Mojave. Ever think of "paralleled units" Thanks again
Brilliant, thanks Scott. I almost understood it - the instructions just don't go quite far enough in detail. But now i can charge my truck up knowing the settings are right. Just one ask: can this sort of controller be left connected to the obd port full-time (engine running as well as off)? The instructions don't warn against this, but some other solar charging systems (the AA model without separate controller) do. Thanks again.
Thanks, Scott, for thoroughly showing us how to hook these things up. Great teacher 👍🏻I'm trying to decide which controller to get from Amazon. MPPT seems the best way to go. Is the Depvco 30 amp MPPT unit pretty much just plug in and forget after i tell it which type of battery I'm charging? I was seriously considering the Allto Solar 20 amp controller for use with my Vtoman vs110 solar panel that is 110 watt and 19 volt. The Depvco is definitely more in my price range though. I'm using this to charge my two Trojan T-125 deep cycle six volt flooded lead acid batteries that I've tied together in series to make a big 12 volt battery. I'm totally new at this. Do we need to install fuses in any of the wires? I heard we should. I'll watch your video to the end. Then ask questions. Thanks and keep up your excellent research and work🙏🏼
This must be close to being the most popular default PWN controller included in small scale solar panel systems in the world. So of course ... the instructions are just garbage. Thanks for making sense of the madness !!! Keep up the great work, young man 💥🤛
Just like to say good afternoon Friday at Conservation hook up Solar Panel see your advice connect very well explain education and correct all work as you describe manual nice work
hey Scott great video i have one question that wasnt covered. where do the load wires get connected to before connecting them to the controller. thanks
thanks Scott, you helped a 66 yr old go off grid.
I brought a solar system just to charge a battery on electric fence and didn't know how to use the blue controller but now I have set it and works fine. Great video

Thank you so much! Your explanations where easy to understand and your voice slow enough to process the information. You are a fantastic instructor 👏
This guy is awesome. Direct and to the point… I just wish he could dial back the enthusiasm 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Starts 2:50 Thanks for your help cheers
Thanks!
Oh man! Thanks for the tip, that is so kind!
Hello Scott. Great tutorial. Just bought one of this charge controler for my caravan that is seating on a off grid property. The user manual is way to difficult to understand. Thanks Scott. I was going crazy trying to understand the Chinese to English translation in the manual supplied with the controller!
scott thank you its more than helpful i have been struggling to get my head round it, 72yr old motorhome owner in the UK
Just what I needed! Great job without the fluff! Kudos!
Excellent video. I just set up a simple set up in my shed but connected the solar panel first The battery was set to B1 which is auto detect 12/24 and my USB would not work. Just what I needed, Living in Thailand I have just received the controller with no instructions so your video was helpful. Thanks. 👍
There is more to this, than meets the eye! And that my chinglish instruction sheet, could explain. Thanks for the explanation!
Chinglish…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
First 2 seconds and he told me what i did wrong 😅
Hahaha!
what do you do if you plug in the solar first!?! is it broke??
No, it just won’t work properly, unplug and redo it with the battery first. 👍🏼
Same here 😂
Ya me too. They set you up without warning. First thing everybody who are new to solar Is tempted to do is see the solar panels give a reading on the charge controller. Hell I was starting with dead batteries thinking I would just charge them up real quick before committing them to the solar set up. Man this free energy seems to keep costing more and more.
Thanks Scott. Spent ages trying to figure out why my lights didn’t work. After watching this I finally figured out that the load was switched off!
Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this clearly and concisely. I misplaced the booklet that came with mine and couldn’t remember which ‘B’ code applied for an AGM battery. 👍👍

Hi, Thanks so much - your video is so detailed and clear, that I have nothing to ask
Well that was the most helpful video i have ever seen , i now feel confident i can set up my controller correctly when it gets here on Saturday , Thank You very much.
Thanks for a clear and concise video. The manual was useless.
Didn't even finish the video and I'm gonna subscribe never done that before 👍
That’s awesome, thank you - much appreciated!
Has anybody ever told you sound like Chris Griffin? All being said mate thank you, very informative.
Absolutely amazing video. Hit the nail on the head for how i need to accomplish my dang task. Thank you
Thanks this helped me out alot, i watched your video as i set it up in the back yard, testing it out. lol
This is much better than the chinese tiny manual filled with broken english!! haha! thankyou so much!!
Excellent video Scott!
