I’ve always wanted to fix-up an old rv and permanently park it next to the non-existent pond on my property for a staycation spot. A girl can dream eh?
It might be a good idea to insulate the underside of the engine cover with foil covered insulation to reduce the amount of heat entering the RV and also to lower odds of it catching on fire from an engine malfunction. I've never seen a wooden engine cover on any vehicle.
Having grown up with VW busses I saw that and immediately had a sense memory of heat. Nice in an Ohio winter, nasty on a summer road trip. The engine cover on those VE’s was made of metal and right between the front seats. Actually, closer than in this big RV.
You and Melissa have beautiful (and handsome!) children. Always like seeing the boys working with you as you begin another restoratiin project. It makes a fun series. Enjoy Alex!
When I saw that, I said the same thing! Then I was like...... Wait, dad's worried about Steven breathing rat poop dust! I cracked up! 🙄😆😅😂🤣😭 Worried about the WRONG thing I'd say! Lol! 💜✌️💜
We have 15 year old twins, Boy & Girl and thank god they helps a lot around the house. I love teaching them how to fix and repair things. I would love to pick up an old fixer car for them to learn repairs on and get running. My father did that with me, I repaired and got running a old 68 Mustang that was for me when I turned 16 and I took my behind the wheel test at DMV with it. I was pretty frickin' proud of my old Mustang and my Dad helping me fix it up. I will always hold this memory close to my heart. Kinda' hope the same thing for my twins.🥰
Hello from Arizona, USA. The extent of your skills is amazing. Thankfully you have a family that goes along with the fun and craziness of finding stuff and making a living out of it.
My dad gutted an old school bus and made it into a motor home. He made 2 sets of bunkbeds in the back, added a kitchen (table folded into a bed), a bathroom, and a broom closet. The front part of the bus had a couch that folded down into a bed and he made a corner stand for a TV. My mom made curtains, including one to go across the front of the bus (when parked). We used it several times to go camping, visiting or family reunions. My dad, uncles and grandpa often used it for hunting. Dad also used it when they went up to the Barrie Flea Market, which was a week long event. Lots of fun.
I love these episodes! As I said before, Barth Motorhomes were built right up the road from where I grew up, in Milford, Indiana & many of my old friends worked there for years, so it really hit's home for me. Can't wait to see the progress.
You did a great job on the engine cover! It fits right in with the 70's vibe. I have pretty much zero handyman skills, so if I had attempted to do that upholstery job, it would look like a toddler did it. This motorhome reno is going to be a GREAT series! Looking forward to the next episode!
Thanks for taking us along on this motorhome journey! I'm not thinking, "It's not perfect!" The engine cover looks great! I'm not here to second-guess, proffer unwanted or unneeded advice, or to complain about something you did...or didn't do. These videos aren't about me.
Love the leathery brown for the engine cover, the lino flooring in it is too 90's, there has to be something else out there cheap to replace it with. What a great find!
This won't likely matter since you are flipping, but if you cover a wooden box in the future you could put a layer of batting on first before the vinyl or fabric. It doesn't really add padding, but it has a little give that might keep the outer layer from developing a hole. You would also do this with a foam cushion for a chair or whatnot. This series has been a lot of fun - you never know exactly what you might see here! :)
Stephen has grown to be such a handsome young man! Most importantly, he's become a very respectable adult. You're a great dad, so I knew it would happen when he was just a young kid. I'm just so glad he's followed such an amazing path ❤
Cinderfella is a real movie it features Jerry Lewis as Cinderfella. Hilarious and worth the watch should you and Steven get a chance. Older movie however. A hazmat suit would be best for Mice yecks for sure. The Chrome is mint on RV and the interior is looking fly! Later! 😊
It might be too late but you might want some more acoustic insulation in that engine cover. That material looks amazing but will be less deadening than the old heavy carpet.
Could I make a suggestion? It's great that you use a disinfectant spray. Since you have allergies, try liberally sprinkling bicarbonate of soda everywhere before doing anything. Not in the motor of course It's a wonderful, gentle chemical that has so much going for it. That includes, disinfectant, cleanser, air purifier and sanitizer.
Take cheap plastic containers, poke some holes in the top. Put moth balls in the containers and place them around inside the motor home. And when your working on it just put a container by every wheel or in under belly compartments. You'll never have mice.
It's a shame you couldn't have machine wash those seat covers, maybe after the bucket wash . I'd never feel they were clean otherwise. With the mouse smell and all .Hot water and bleach will sanitize the washer afterward. But it's always good to be thoughtful of Melissa. 👍
Cinderfella a 11:40 movie from 1960 starring Jerry Lewis. Since the engine hatch does not provide an airtight seal, don't forget to add a carbon monoxide detector for driving. You will need one anyway for when you use the kitchen appliances and heating system.
Great progress Alexander. Surprisingly good condition on the cushions. Hope you don't paint too much of the paneling and cabinets. All that wood finish is very iconic for the time period . Access to the driver's seat and the shotgun seat seem rather awkward. Keep up the good work!😎
I'm quite partial towards the wood finish/paneling myself. But I might be a bit biased because my dad loves working with wood, and it's still very much prevalent all over the inside of our house lol 😁.
Just a question: Would you not do the brown material that's on the engine cover behind as well, where the yellow shag rug is still. It would look so much more cohesive. Your doing an awesome job, Im sure it will look stunning once your done with it. I love how much hard work you put into refinishing these older things.
We had a classic 1979 Travco mobile bus I wanted to redo it and never knew where to start. We sold it. I was sad to see it go. Enjoying watching this series ❤️
Just a thought but the shag rug on the engine "dog house" probably helped muffle the engine noise and the vinyl you replaced it with won't be as effective. I suggest adding Reflectix material on the inside of it to increase the insulation value and reduce sound and heat.
Can't wait to see the finished product, way to go steven I know the old man is paying you for your labor, but you and your siblings have great work ethic, just look at your dad today and imagine, that's you in 25 years, looking good Archbold's
Alex I use 0000 steel wool on my chrome and windshield and all my glass.watched a video on utube and they recommended it.worked fantastic on my 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass.
Alex, you & Steven are doing a great job. In my opinion you deserve a Kudos for the reupholstering the motor cover. God bless & take care until next time. 🙏💞🇺🇸
Alex,Steven my RV remodelers. Thus far a great job of cleaning and upholstery. The RV is going to look great when completed. Until next time. Please, take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🍺😇🕊❤️🌹🌈👍🌞🇺🇸🙏👏
I am envious. This is a jewel in the rough. Aluminum body, the interior is in pretty good shape for its age. Hope your family has fun with it and I will be looking for it fr sale. Thanks for the great videos.
I think that it would be much nicer if you take out the remainder of that awful yellow carpet and cover it in the same fabric that you put on the box section in front of it. Just a thought 😊 Great work you two
That is so ... Cool and an amazing quality rig.. I would bring that to glory and unique. Very lucky and well preserved. .. have a class A myself . But personally.. would get me a classic.. like that. So unique.. have to keep . If ya ever want to sell .. I be interested very much.. don't get that quality anymore . A wow..
The motor home is coming along, I think the green color on the cabinet doors will make it,look vintage 70’s. Excited to see the finished project❤❤❤❤
That's the plan!
My first apartment was in the late 70s. It had the Avocado color scheme. And yes, of course the carpet was green shag.
Steve is a very sweet, very handsome young man. You and Melissa have done an excellent job raising your children.
Thank you so much!
I’ve always wanted to fix-up an old rv and permanently park it next to the non-existent pond on my property for a staycation spot. A girl can dream eh?
Yes, untill they put a tax on dreams.
@LadyArseling I’d call that a cool “she shed”. 😂
It might be a good idea to insulate the underside of the engine cover with foil covered insulation to reduce the amount of heat entering the RV and also to lower odds of it catching on fire from an engine malfunction. I've never seen a wooden engine cover on any vehicle.
Plus it will help sound proof it
Agreed. When he opened it I immediately thought the engine insulation was missing.
Having grown up with VW busses I saw that and immediately had a sense memory of heat. Nice in an Ohio winter, nasty on a summer road trip. The engine cover on those VE’s was made of metal and right between the front seats. Actually, closer than in this big RV.
Love the dad jokes!
My oldest grandson said: "Nana, you can't tell dad jokes! To which I replied. Who do think taught your dad "dad jokes"
The world needs more corny jokes!
Good Afternoon Archbold Family ‼️🙋🏽
Morning!
Great Father and Son team work. Thanks for sharing 😎👍♥️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️💯💯
Our pleasure!

10:13 is that a hicky on Steven's neck? LOL He sure has grown up. Awesome series. Thanks for sharing.
When I saw that, I said the same thing! Then I was like...... Wait, dad's worried about Steven breathing rat poop dust! I cracked up!

Thanks so much! It’s rewarding to see it come together :)
Awesome!!! ❤️🎶❤️🎶❤️🎶
Glad you like it!
Stephen is a great helper for you.❤️
He sure is!

Good enough is often good enough!
My stove top in my 1973 Airstream looks just like yours. Stainless steel but rusty, I had mine powder coated and it turned out great.
Good tip!
Heh heh heh. Chevy. "It seems solid as a rock".
🎶 Like a rock. 🎶

Pro tip - Use "NEVR DULL" Chrome Polish. That stuff rules.
Barth Vader is coming along and looks great!
Haha great name for it!
Thanks! I kept waiting for you to say it since you love clever names and such haha@@CuriosityIncorporated
You do nice work!
Thank you!

Great job Steven ❤❤
You look just like your grandma 😍
Absolutely love this, can’t believe they were going to trash or leave it!!
Glad to see that Steven is finding time in his busy schedule to help out dear ol'Dad. 😊
Yes indeed!
Awsome to see it come back to life!
You did a great upholstery job....it is already looking a lot better...❤❤
Amazing. Great job remodeling this RV. Cheers from Colorado!
Stephen has grown to be such a handsome young man! Most importantly, he's become a very respectable adult. You're a great dad, so I knew it would happen when he was just a young kid. I'm just so glad he's followed such an amazing path ❤
Great work on the engine cover, that upholstery isn’t easy to line up!
Thanks Dave! I tried to
Make sure every line was even… tough to do on a pyramid shape!
Looking good Alex , those kids of yours have grown into fine young men & ladies 🙏❤️
Looking good my friend. You have done a lot of work. Cheers
Thanks Bill!

So much hard work! It’s going to be great and I’m so glad you and your son can rescue it!
It's coming along!! Looks great! I love watching your videos, thank you for sharing and have a great evening!!
Nice job on covering the engine cover. Looks great!
Thanks!
It is definitely coming along
I love how your son gives you grief for cinderfellow joke❤️❤️❤️
It might be too late but you might want some more acoustic insulation in that engine cover. That material looks amazing but will be less deadening than the old heavy carpet.
What a great adventure. We'll be watching for sure.
That's a good camper. Fix it up and keep it

@@CuriosityIncorporated Sorry, I meant to add to then clean or spray with vinegar but don't use on wood.
Take cheap plastic containers, poke some holes in the top. Put moth balls in the containers and place them around inside the motor home. And when your working on it just put a container by every wheel or in under belly compartments. You'll never have mice.
So glad your saving as much of the original int as possible.
I thought you did a real nice job on that engine cover. Well done‼

Enjoying this series. You always do such a great job restoring vehicles. Can’t wait to see the end result!

Great start on a retro reno!
Very cool camper - It will be interesting to see the final result. Stay safe.
Your son was cleaning the dog box lid. Good job guys.
Good work Alex and Steven! Will be a gem even if a classic older vintage motor home. Will be very appreciated by family or friends or customer.
Looking sharp!! For 1972 that was a sweet RV.
I would put composite decking on that first step in the doorway.
You don't have to work too hard to make it look 70's. The whole outer shell already sings it for You.😁
Seriously though great job with the upholstery.
Steven, what a good son👍
I love when Alex takes on a major project. So fun to watch.
You did a fab job with the upholstering 😊
Thank you :)

Yes! Absolutely! Just what I was thinking.
Yeah, I thought the same thing. Go back and buy the rest of it and maybe recover the dash later too. That would really make it match. ✌️💜👍😁👍
@fsimon5230.......ever learn how to spell YOU'RE...... ???
You’re like the Energizer Bunny, Alex. You’re always so positive and motivating.
We had a classic 1979 Travco mobile bus I wanted to redo it and never knew where to start. We sold it. I was sad to see it go. Enjoying watching this series ❤️
Wow, you and Steven got a lot done! Looking good.
Thanks 👍
Another exciting find and restoration/reno project! Its going to be soooo cool 😅 😎😍
Love to see when it’s done.
Looking great, nice to see Stephen working with you. ❤❤ Alexander the upholstery you did looks great.
It's fun watching you folks redo this old rig.
Great progress on an interesting project. XXX
Looks good 👍

Vinyl plank floor would be my choice
Great job, Nice cleanup,
Thank you!
Awesome again 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Alex I use 0000 steel wool on my chrome and windshield and all my glass.watched a video on utube and they recommended it.worked fantastic on my 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Alex, you & Steven are doing a great job. In my opinion you deserve a Kudos for the reupholstering the motor cover. God bless & take care until next time. 🙏💞🇺🇸
Thanks so much!
Looks like Stephen has a love bite, way to go mate 👍🤣
I'd buy a gallon of Kilz and just seal everything! Works wonders on old smells...
I love the restoration series's almost as much as I love the hoarder eps!
Alex,Steven my RV remodelers. Thus far a great job of cleaning and upholstery. The RV is going to look great when completed. Until next time. Please, take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🍺😇🕊❤️🌹🌈👍🌞🇺🇸🙏👏

Splendid 👌
Usually there is a cotton batting layer over the wood before you cover with the fabric. Don't forget to wash the curtains.
I think that it would be much nicer if you take out the remainder of that awful yellow carpet and cover it in the same fabric that you put on the box section in front of it. Just a thought 😊 Great work you two
Amazing job, wish the best 😊
Thank you! You too!
I would've taken the covers off the cushions and put them in the washer The engine cover turned out awesome
I have been waiting for this! Totally invested in this RV
Love that you refurbish these old vehicles!!!
Cool project! Love to see Steven working with you!
It's looking so much better already and with some green paint on the cupboards it'll look pretty snazzy🇨🇦🦩
