What I really rate about Gary is his continued enthusiasm for world football outside of Europe. Whether it be Libertadores, AFCON, Asian footy. Class chap.
I read this as hate. Then thought whoa brother careful now 😂

Shearer was world class,Micah couldn’t handle prime shearer.
Definitely would of been a hard shift 4 micah, but micah was very good for a period
Micah couldn't handle prime Pringle.
Micah couldn't handle Alan Titchmarsh
I don't know, Micah was very, very good. It would have been a good battle - Shearer really was something...such a great and powerful striker
Shearer would have demolished him.
Micah with the Roy Keane book on the shelf 😂
Shearer "I would of smashed you into oblivion" 😂😂😂 He would have as well, easy work for Shearer.
Shearer is so much fun with Micah ,I absolutely love this
Don’t hurry José Mourinho is coming back, 💪💪💪🇵🇹🇵🇹👏👏👏😍
How can you not like Gary 😢
facts
I’ve always loved Jose. I think his sacking was a little bit unfair as he was one awful refereeing decision away from 2 European trophies on the bounce and champions league football. Wishing him all the best for the future
Micah a better personality than player! He’s definitely world class personality
Thank gentlemen for the supporting Jose Mourinho, and too be honest
His record from 2001-2012 was insane, largely interrupted brilliance and easily enough for him to go down as one of the greatest ever managers, even if he didn't achieve anything else afterwards. Even before the 2003/2004 Champions League winning season with Porto, he led Leiria (with barely a cent to spend) to their highest ever league finish at the time in 2001, and then 3rd place midway through 2001/2002 (ahead of Porto who came calling for him plus Benfica). And Porto's 2002/2003 season winning 3 trophies was stellar. For perspective, their team at the time of the 2003 UEFA Cup final was built on half the budget compared to Celtic's.
His final season at Real Madrid, when he fell out with so many players, notablly, Casillas, CRonaldo, Ramos and Pepe, triggered a gradual decline IMO, though from his previously incredibly high standards, and since then he has still won 5 major trophies with 3 different clubs (not counting the 2016 Community Shield !), including a Premier League title and 2 European trophies. Clearly tactically, he seems more and more behind the times nowadays. And maybe even more importantly, I feel that he has struggled to adapt over time to modern day 'man management' (man management in 2024 is very different to man management in 2014 let alone in 2004), while Ancelotti in contrast has done it seemlessly.
Don't think it has anything to do with man management. He just has worse "tools" than Ancelotti
He was unbeaten for nine years at home in league fixtures (2002-2011). Incredible record.
What is mordere game if only 2 or 3 managers are ahead of him
Love the respect from you guys for JM. Keep up the great work. Love the Show👍🏼💪🏼
Despite the results, the polemics, the red cards, and the frankly dire football (no open play goals vs 1st div. opposition in 300+ minutes) the whole city has stuck behind Jose and the club in a pretty extraordinary way. For instance I was one of the ~62000 who sold out the Stadio Olimpico for a late midweek cup game against 2nd tier opposition. The decision to sack the manager and replace him with an unproven manager in De Rossi whose record might be compared to Wayne Rooney's is a huge overreaction. This is a massive disruption at the critical moment in a season in which Roma still have so much to play for. Roma are in 9th place in the league but are only 5 points outside the top 4 and are still in contention in Europe. Very disappointing for Romanistas as well as the wider world of football lovers who appreciate what Mourinho offers in terms of character and entertainment value.
Do you think Mourinho was losing his touch at Roma?
@@jeremywilliams5107 Roma have been deeply out of form for a while now, Mourinho's tactics are require a strong defense as the backbone of the team. We've missed Smalling, Matić and Ibañez dearly. It's also true that it appears Mourinho is failing to implement his structure and pattern of play in the buildup. Giving players the instructions and training to move the ball up the pitch is ultimately one of the key responsibilities of the manager and Roma are just not progressing the ball well. The direct long ball tactic just seems to be a bit old fashioned and Roma on the whole lack the more physical profiles necessary to implement it. Also he seems to have lost an element of the dressing room, definitely Spinnazzola, Karsdorp, and El Sharaawy have had some sort of falling out. So yes I think he's lost a bit of touch but the strength of his personality and his experience mean that he deserved a chance to fix it this season for me, also in the past 2 seasons Roma have been out of form and have pulled through.
62,000 is nowhere near a sell out. The Stadio Olimpico capacity is 80,000.
@@Thai.Farang Capacity might be limited at games, Spurs used to only be allowed 60 odd thousand when they played at Wembley
Mate 6th 6th and 9th is crap and deserves sacking.
In mourinhos last 9 straight seasons he has failed to meet club targets.

Mourinho won a uefa cup with Porto, the year before he won the champions, witch makes it even more special.
and i still think he is one of the very best, top 5 in the world, but he's antics are costing him more then he likes to admit for sure.
Micah is just a joy! ☺️
Greetings you legends! (Calm down Micah 😂) Thank you for this amazing show and for sharing your stories. Unfortunately even in his own country Mourinho's underappreciated, but who cares! Micah spot on here regarding FFP - the house analogy is perfect. If I bought a house in 2013, it cost me £202k - now that same house is £375k through inflation etc.
Inflation in football finances is way more, in comparison, than a house and I think the lads here are hugely underestimating the levels, financially, the game has moved on. The £105m limit agreed in 2013 would be around £450m now with the same inflation (and we are not even talking about the implications of Covid and Brexit too).
Truth is, we are living in a different world, especially in football terms. I'm astonished the Premier League did not amend this rule on a yearly basis (based on the price of football going up year-on-year). That either shows (a) they don't want to, therefore keeping the status quo of clubs at the top or (b) they are completely inept and don't change with the speed of the game they overlook (which is poor in itself).
It's a ridiculously flawed system.
And as for Alan talking about Liverpool having to abide by FFP too - using the Coutinho case etc. He is correct. However, Liverpool had & have the luxury of having hundreds upon hundreds of pounds worth of assets (players) that they can sell for £100m at a time, whenever they want to refresh their squad. Liverpool are not spending to the stupid extent of City or Chelsea or even United but they are still being allowed (and are able) to spend vastly more than the rest of the league when you compare it to the club's like Luton, the club that was brought up here.
Commercial Revenue dictating how much a club can spend was never going to work. Its a flawed system where the rich clubs get richer and the poor clubs have to survive.
The reform of these rules (happening in August of this year) are too little too late for clubs who have fallen foul of this ridiculous policy and the Premier League should be taking huge responsibility for that (as they are clearly not governing the game properly). They are hiding behind the 20 clubs agreeing on those rules "by a handshake" as CEO Richard Masters said earlier this week. There should be annual reviews of these laws as the game of football evolves and changes alongside it.
Before anyone says that would be too much work to manage rule changes year on year. It hasnt stopped the Premier League changing rules "on the pitch", with the likes of VAR, Handball, Offsides etc for years. Yes, I don't think that helps the game but it proves that they can manage rules year-on-year. To make it truly work - you need competent people at the top of the Premier League to do it.
Richard Masters isn't that competent person I'm afraid. He was a 4th choice candidate for a position, that he's clearly out of his depth managing.
The whole Premier League needs re-thinking and reforming or I fear it will start to eat itself or end up going back 20-30 years, like what happened with Seria A back in the day.
His argument has weight for the last few years as an inflationary period since late 2021. This may be relevant for Everton and Wolves since they have made losses over the Covid period. But for most of the 2010s inflation was low 1 or 2 percent so the argument does not work for that period. Asset prices are not relevant as they are not inflation in the true sense and you could argue that the financial rules themselves where meant to reduce the vast growth in transfer prices. Something they have failed to do but that's not an argument that the loss rules should be lessened since it then encourages reckless spending.
Ultimately the teams have agreed to the rules where they are not inflation indexed losses which is perhaps an oversight( and not an unreasonable one since the "great inflation moderation" had existed more or less since the early to mid 90s) and could be redone. However I think the larger clubs may not be too keen for a looser set of rules as it would result in greater competition from smaller clubs who get bought out.
Really look forward to listening to these guys😎
Henderson wasn't on £600,000 a week, the papers said that, (shockingly the media got it wrong, and lied to try and vilify a player) he was actually on £350,000 a week, still an incredible living. I hope he gets paid what he is owed. I have no qualms about players following the money because every single person in their position would do the same, the only people who complain about players going for the money or even PL players on high wages are those who are jealous and bitter because they'll never make that kind of money ever in their lifetime.

What he did with a team of old men ( Inter Milan)
Was incredible.
Mourinho the special one.
As Juventus supporters i will always remember Jose's Inter, i think they are one of the best team i've ever seen, i will always dream Mou manage Juventus someday, but Allegri did great job at the moment, so i think Napoli would be his next destination, however, it would be interesting if Mourinho take on Bayern, let him shows to people what The Real Mourinho could do with a big budget club.
Roma fan here. We didnt want him fired. I will still follow him wherever he goes!!
They should be doing much better than they are.
He can’t be the goat because he’s had too many lows, and hasn’t been near the worlds best in over a decade but he’s still legendary
they're definitely buttering him up here to try and get him on the podcast. Mourinho is one of all time greats, but yeah, he's been good but not great ever since he left Chelsea the second time
Well if you pick jobs where the clubs is in the shit and needs to raise a level...of course your odds to keep succeding highly are low. You wanna list Roma's past managers achievments? Spurs'? Context matters. Just like Ancelotti who everyone thought was finished after Everton.
@@jeanjacqueslundi3502 I didn’t think he was finished at all, difference is ancelotti will still be wanted by the biggest clubs because he’s considered still one of the very best. Jose isn’t. I could imagine juve, Liverpool, city all wanting ancelotti if they had vacancy…
Fun fact Shearer did play against Micah Richards in 2006 for about 15 mins when he came off the bench
another class episode lads
Have to remember the money rules are different in the championship their losses are about 60 million over a certain period, so forest are getting that on them as well
Great pod, spot on about José and regards ffp, I dont see how finance can be quantified in points.. for example, man utd have spent a fortune and only José has managed to bring them silverware in x amount of years since fergie... Money doesnt quantify success... If clubs have breached financial rules, it should be financial punishment

Jose's confidence is box office .
Great podcast. Jose Mourinho is an absolute legend and one of the greatest ever! He did a lot of great things in the second decade of his career but people don't seem to recognize this... his Real Madrid side where up against 'the greatest team of all time' and the first season they beat them 1-0 to win copa del rey. The second season they win the league, basically with that 2-1 win at the nou camp, with the most points and goals ever scored in la liga. Then he goes back to Chelsea and wins a caribao cup and premier league double. Then 3 trophies in 1 season with Man Utd, Community Shield, Caribao Cup, Europa League. Gets sacked 4 days before a final with Spurs (ridiculous) Then back to back European Finals with Roma, winning the Confrence League. All of this without even mentioning his achievements at Porto, Chelsea, Inter. Jose is brilliant. He's far from perfect, he has fallen out with people, his football can be negative, he's been sacked but he is literally one of the greatest managers of all time. If I was an owner for a massive club I would give him a job. I would like to have a conversaton about what style of play he would bring. For example If I was owner of PSG/Bayern/Real Madrid you can't really be playing defensive football every week but I think Mourinho is sensible enough to know this anyway. Pep Guardiola is obviously incredible but I would love to see him challenge himself with a difficult job because all 3 of his jobs have basically been with the best team in he word, he still has done incredible jobs and won everything so fair play to him but lets see how he does with teams like Spurs/Roma/Porto etc..
Another belter
Player fees have increased but so have the player sale prices and the TV money so 105m is still ok for long term teams to follow. Makes it tough for promoted teams with no big players to sell though
Pleae talk about asia cup next time, love podcast, unbeatable chemii❤❤

We need a Special One & Gary pod to clear the air!
He was sacked everywhere and destroyed most of the teams.
Are we on the same planet😮
The story about Mourinho's letter to Gerrard upon his retirment was an absolute touch of class, sure he knows how to get in people heads but what a manager. Not the GOAT for me but top 10 for sure
“He leaves behind him chaos”. ..And serial winners. The core of the team he assembled at Chelsea continued winning after he left. The same thing happened when he left Real Madrid.
After a year that he had, surely Henderson can’t start in the Euros
You just know he will still get picked though.

Pitched as club stability, but let’s be honest, it’s something introduced by the power clubs to maintain their status
Its a total joke. Just like VAR. Corrupt planet this.
I don't think anyone beats Ancelotti though. He's won it all, even when he a was a player too.
At Elland road I saw Shearer who had come back to defend a corner, smash hasselbank then run off grinning. You don't have his record if you're a push over.
You have to love shearer when hes being himself 😂😂 what a guy pmsl
I didn’t realise Cafu had changed his name. Flippin eck!
Loved him first time round at Chelsea although ranieri built the core of that team and we were on the up under him before jose, second time round he won the league but if someone else would of been the manager salah, de bruyne, juan mata would of been chelsea legends.
Everything is easier in hindsight mate. The team was very strong when KDB and Salah were around. Difficult for them to get a chance. Jose always says he wanted to keep them. The club chose to sell
My top 5
Sir Alex
Pep
Clough
Mourinho
Ancelotti
Good to see Clough in the list 👍
What about Southgate?
Micah is dead right on FFP. 10-11 years ago, the biggest transfer ever was 100.8M€. Nowadays you can't even get a guy with one single season in the PL, or a guy who plays in Portugal. It's crazy to keep the same limits.
I love Jose Mourinho ❤❤❤
1. Prize money increases have probably more than offset player inflation.
2. F1 is implementing a sliding scale of restrictions on resources with the champions getting the least and the last placed team getting more. We will see if it works in the next couple of years. Could this be a way of making FFP fairer?
Anyone else though Micha was about to say a different youngster called Johnson at Man City 😂

Concerning FFP. Other clubs have done it the right way to compete (Brighton, Brentford, Tottenham), sowhy shouldn't the others?
What is the right way? There is nothing unethical with a club spending money to get better as long as its sustainable. One can complain about City spending being out of bounds but it was in the same hemisphere as Madrid, Barcelona, and United.
Very simple. Newly promoted clubs are exempt from financial fair play in the first year. It gives the promoted teams the opportunity and chance to invest in their team and stand a stronger chance of staying in the league rather than going straight back down, as they tend to do
There's no way Henderson should be anywhere near the England squad, unless he's there as a fan. Absolutely past it
You should dig into the Henderson agent thing a bit more it's quite strange.
Allegedly his agent was TAAs brother and he negotiated the move to saudi, henderson cut ties and arranged the move to ajax without an agent. Sounds like he may have been talked into the saudi deal.
So what if he was talked into it?
@@r4h4al it could explain how it ended up going so poorly as he wasn't really aware of the situation.

Goat manager?! The guy gets sacked from everywhere he manages. He’s out of date now. 20 years ago yes he was the goat. Now he’s run of the mill!
Gary, the lads and I have started a drinking game for every time you touch your nose during the podcast we have to finish our pints. Fair to say we’ve had to get a cab home each time. Can you see a therapist to help save our livers?
Another great show. Why do clubs have to pay all these ridiculous agents fees. It’s the players they are working for they should pay. Do you also think it’s time for a wage cap
If you cap fees and wages you might as well just have the Super League. All of the big clubs will be at the top every year for the rest of time.
I think he just needs to go to a team that’s an underdog, he likes the battle and arguments, he took Porto all the way to win bcos they weren’t expected to do it
he's just been at a team that's the underdog for 2 and a half years
I think there might be parallels (re:Jordan Henderson) with race car driver Brian Redman going to South Africa back in 1971. Once there and witnessing the social realities . . . removing the family from that toxic environment becomes a 'must do', regardless of the financial consequences.
Someone deffo needs to sort a charity fight with micah and akinfenwa
He should go to an international team imo, it's the right time. Brazil should've waited

If say DEBT instead if 'FFP Limits' it adds a better perspective I think
I'm no economist but surely the amount doesn't need to be changed because although inflation's a factor, it's impacted both the profits and losses of clubs (e.g., wages and transfers are more now but
the club's income has also increased)
