Greetings to all of you at Insidebowling. I listened to one of your videos last week and followed the advice. I am 73 years old and I was really struggling. The first outing after watching the video I bowled a 196. Since then I have bowled a 208. My average has jumped at least 30 points. Once I get a new plastic ball to work on my spares, I think I will be a much better bowler. Yours is the best bowling help site on you tube in my opinion. Thanks.
Mr. Shady is correct, lofting is a very important part of bowling. Due to my level of rotation, on a typical league condition I will go over the 7 board at the arrows. As the lane dries out I adjust by increasing my speed and lofting. When that isn't enough I will move left and/or change balls. One of the major benefits of lofting is you have to throw the ball very slightly upward to obtain loft, this causes your hand to put slightly more rotation on the ball. So the loft no only delays the hook so the ball doesn't hit high, it also causes it to come in stronger increasing the probability of striking.
I'm in Hawaii where Roy Yamanuha bowls & operates his own pro shop "Game On". He lofts 1/2 of the lane but is one of the best local bowlers. A few years ago he won the Asian Seniors in Singapore & he bowled a 300 to do it. When tough oil patterns are put out he just throws over them. He has won many Hawaii TV Bowling TV Shows against other PBA players like T.Reyes when he was here. You're right, there are times when lofting can be a viable solution.
Gave it a thumbs 👍 before the video is up, why?...Because I trust Shannon to bring the Pro Bowlers Tip, that will make a difference in anyone's game. Stay safe, blessed, and go have a great time bowling your very best. Enjoy the rest of your day to All.🎳✌
I learned how to bowl on Duckpin lanes and back in the 50's if the ball flew more than 6 feet down the lane it was call "lobbing" and was considered a foul! Of course it was much easier to do with 3lb grapefruit sized ball!
Watch Fero Williams. He is a amazing bowler has hundreds of 300 games and 800's as well. He lofts the ball almost every shot. I watched him bowl in a local tournament today. He is a ledged in the sport. He bowls at our center several times a year. If you haven't seen him he has a unique style and it works well for him.
I have a loft issue when I throw the ball harder. The slower my first step, the less loft I have. I also think in my head "slow feet, slow arm" and "foul through" "stay down at the line" when I bowl.
Great demonstration! I'd love to see a slow motion view from the release to the landing to illustrate how the ball stays parallel to the lane. Also, for those of us who are older, knee bend like Shannon's first shot isn't always possible. Any tips for those with knee difficulties?
Thanks for the kind comments Mark. To answer your question on tips for knee difficulties - many times by using your upper body to lean a bit more forward (vertical/torso tilt), a player can get the ball a bit more parallel into the lane. Thanks for watching Mark.
"Years ago everyone did it..." Everyone STILL does it in college tournaments. Hell I got bumped down from the Varsity team to the JV team in college because I didn't know how to loft the gutter cap properly lol
I guess this doesn't work for everyone but I have 10 grip levels that came with my Brunswick shoes, what I do when I want to throw the ball harder is put a slide that is shorter and stops sooner, and that encourages me to throw it harder, longer slide, better for a slower release, normally I like a slower release, as I tend to pull it back when I throw it too hard and it just goes straight.
If you are a novice bowler such as myself and you go to your local bowling alley they tell you that lofting is not permitted which absolutely sucks can anyone explain why that rule is enforced?
When I loft the ball, the hook is delayed AND the ball seems to hook sharper because the ball has stored up more energy which is released when the ball hits the dry. Am I just imagining this or am I correct?
I used to bowl on a league who had a bowler that did what you described on every shot, but probably greater than 10 feet. I was amazed he could get it consistently to the pocket and averaged over 200. If you bowled near him you had to give him lane courtesy because if you were not paying attention the sound of his ball slamming the lane could throw you off during your approach.
@@drwisdom1 there is a guy on my league now that launches the ball like that now. He must only use an 11 pound ball because it isn't loud. He isn't very accurate, but when he is on a roll, watch out. I have another guy that use a 16 pounder that launches it over 15 feet and is a 230 average
Lofting good, Lobbing bad. I cant stand to hear them smack the lanes hard. I don't think is is as bad for the synthetics, but you can beat up the old wood lanes doing that.. A guy that bowls at my center lands 2 feet past the arrows and his ball is well over knee high.
Lofting the ball is only a last resort. When Shannon went brooklyn, she rolled over 10 board. But when she lofted it, it rolled over 14-15 board. She changed her rolled significantly lofting it. Lofting the ball is way overrated. You have to keep the same roll as well as hit the same area to truly say lofting is the answer. She has a release that is almost always on the side of the ball. For her to show the lofting, she needed to be up the back of the ball.
Unless you do this for a living I highly suggest not doing/learning this haha theres always room to move or a different area to play for you league bowlers on a house shot and tournament shots like I said if you dont do this for a living your going to fuck yourself all up. Coming out of the ball and keeping consistency is hard when your trying to change something like this. My suggestion is move dont change anything else

Thanks for watching!
You can also add loft when it's super oily. I did one night and shot 300 the first time I ever tried it. Awesome tip
Very useful video. Scored my first 600+ series (200+ average across three games) after watching and applying these tips. Thank you.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching.

Ok love the short to the point and very well explained 👏

Thanks for the support and for watching Janet!
Should’ve saw this earlier. Great tip!
Love the tips
This has improved my game
Glad the tips are helping!! Thanks for watching and good luck on the lanes!!

InsideBowling Every video! I’m trying to make my channel better and watching your channel def helps me with that and my bowling game!

You guys all rock 🎳🎳🎳
do you think it's good to be able to air over the arrows because I can.
I have a loft issue when I throw the ball harder. The slower my first step, the less loft I have. I also think in my head "slow feet, slow arm" and "foul through" "stay down at the line" when I bowl.
Can two handers use this same technique or is there a different technique for two handers?

I will try that too
"Years ago everyone did it..."
Everyone STILL does it in college tournaments. Hell I got bumped down from the Varsity team to the JV team in college because I didn't know how to loft the gutter cap properly lol
Thank You for this video. This is definitely a tool I can use
That's for giving me signed picture from Las Vegas
I’m slow I use to throw it past the arrows that’s out there in the lane I got strikes but never consistent
Shannon O'Keefe can you tell me what weight ball do you throw?
I guess this doesn't work for everyone but I have 10 grip levels that came with my Brunswick shoes, what I do when I want to throw the ball harder is put a slide that is shorter and stops sooner, and that encourages me to throw it harder, longer slide, better for a slower release, normally I like a slower release, as I tend to pull it back when I throw it too hard and it just goes straight.
When I use to bowl - I never lofted ball very much. Is it really necessary 🤔
Not necessarily. It's another possible adjustment.
As stated " It's a tool".
Thanks again Mike own this long lost tip in bowling ( Tony R Wilson)
Great video.
Thanks for watching Paul
Thinking about two handers, would it be the same? I feel like they may struggle trying to be “taller”
It is the same. Two handers usually do have to loft the left gutter.
Cool
If you are a novice bowler such as myself and you go to your local bowling alley they tell you that lofting is not permitted which absolutely sucks can anyone explain why that rule is enforced?
After knee injury I had to decide, quit bowling or learn to bowl without bending my knee at all. Every shot I make is a loft, I have no choice.
Same way I bowl but sometimes the goes about half way down the lane before it touches the lane
When I loft the ball, the hook is delayed AND the ball seems to hook sharper because the ball has stored up more energy which is released when the ball hits the dry. Am I just imagining this or am I correct?
That's to Shannon
"Use Less Knee Bend"
Now that's my style!
Love a video on how to decrease loft haha
Mike Fagan perfect lofter
I always copy Mika koivuniemi because it satisfying to hear the ball land on the lane
Facts. He added it to his arsenal due to the heads of the lanes in his home country being always burned up.
Stay tall less knee bends good tip
Thanks for watching Jasmin!
Mark Roth was a master of lofting the ball to overcome drying lane conditions.
What's she wearing on her arm? Is it from an injury or something that benefits her play?
I loft all the time. I need to figure out how to lay the ball down earlier.
I'm old... and I can remember when one could be asked to leave if one lofted the ball more than just a very little.
I like how it is demonstrated properly. Not when then the ball is propelled 5 feet up in the air and 10 feet down the lane
Thanks for watching Cecilia
There's always one of em in a league! Throws it half way down the lane as well. UGH!
@@jtjt1836 I know, but as long as the houses allow it. That's why we see the dents in the lanes and the lanes don't get fixed because of the abuse 🙄

Yep. That's Mike talking. Say hi to G for us all.

How to not loft the ball? 😞

I'm glad this works for her but her over exaggerated arm swing after her release is annoying. I've never seen that in bowling😂😂

I lofted a bowl and they turned my lane off
I loft by accident lol well
That's my normal bowling technique. I didn't even know. That's exactly how I bowl. I loft the entire time. Wow
The plain anime roughly rescue because avenue cellularly post besides a snotty trumpet. hysterical, cute enemy
Lofting a bowling ball is dumb
