    Federico is making one big mistake: outside of America people just are much more skinnier. For most people outside the US the BB54 is actually the sweet spot and also the most true to its history. The BB58 isn’t near as comfortable on the wrist as the BB54.

  • @mybrainlikesthings
    @mybrainlikesthings 5 месяцев назад +4

    The BB54 crystal width is 28.5mm, which is close to the average 30mm for typical dive watches and chronographs. But the 20mm-16mm steel bracelet width taper makes this compatible with the average person, big or small. When a band goes below 16mm width a big-wristed person should be concerned about how that's going to look. This is also why a big-wristed person can probably wear one of the Kuoe Kyoto Smiths wristwatchs, even at 35mm, because its proportions still work. A band size of 120/80mm in length, plus the case size, adds up to 8 inches, maybe even 9.
    I'm not going to say that every small watch works for big wrists, but knowing the key sizes can open up a lot of opportunities.

    Bigger ain't better, someone said to me once. Panerai's are not appropriate for most of us, I happen to love the 37mm Black Bay 54. It fits my wrist perfectly and doesn't jump off the wrist and draw attention to itself like many big watches do.

    I bought the 54 for my wife’s 51/2 inch wrist. It looks fantastic on her. Not enough brands produce good looking sport watches for women. Wake up everyone she loves watches and she is the one who keeps talking me into my next watch. Thanks

    Calling the Black bay 54 ridiculously small is a terrible take.
    The watch may have a 37mm case, but the lug to lug is 46mm. So it's not a small wearing watch on the wrist.

    I watch alot of older films and see alot of 36mm and 38mm case sizes and they look great. On big guys like Robert Mitchum, John Wayne and Lee Marvin. So if the Duke could do it I'm sure you can Fed.I was just watching Marked for death with Steven Segal and he wore a Day date 36mm which was his personal piece in real life and a TAG Heuer chronograph 38mm and Steven Segal is 6.5. Now guys that are 5.8 on a good day think those sizes are too small 😅 and before I get hit with the that's all was available at the time. There were plenty of 40mm and 42mm case sizes at the time but that's what he choose to wear

    I’ve a 6.75” wrist and own the 58 and 54. The 58 wears better and oddly is more comfortable even without glide lock. Still, I’m keeping the 54 to put on a Bond NATO for a bit of fun. 🤵🏻

    • @patrickhartmann1540
      @patrickhartmann1540 5 месяцев назад

      @@insightman9632 The 54 feels more sharp on the edges. Particularly the bracelet. The polished “rivet” plates extend ever so slightly past the bracelet creating a sharper edge than 58. Not terrible but noticeable. Possible that this is an issue with just my 54, since I’ve not heard it mentioned by others.

    Federico you can count me as one of the thousands of watch enthusiasts you have educated over the years, and while I believe you would not buy a black bay 54, I think it is just irrational to claim that a 37mm case and a 46mm lug to lug is too small except for the smallest wrists. Especially since over half the population is female. That was is at least fine for all but the largest of wrists conventionally. I agree you are against it personally but I don’t see how you can extrapolate the generalization.

    Watch size and wrist size are inextricably linked. I like dress watches, and 37 mm is a perfect size for me. However, because of the relatively small dial and large bezel, I think divers wear smaller than equivalent size dress watches. I have never seen a Black Bay (54 or 58) in the flesh but I do know that even a 42 mm dive watch doesn't look too outlandish on my wrist provided the dial isn't too big. So I imagine I would prefer the 39 mm 58 rather than the 54.
