    Sometimes it's great just to jump in the campervan and have a night away - a real chill-out. Living in the shadow of the Cairngorms sometimes it's good just to leave the cold mountain weather behind and drive down to the Moray Firth Coast, an area that boasts some of the longest sunshine hours in the UK. And if there a folk music gig on at the Universal Hall at the Findhorn Foundation so much the better. Qrap than round a good walk, a good meal and some expresso coffee and you have the making of a genuine chill-out.
    I'm based in the Scottish Highlands and I use a VW campervan to access the great outdoors, where I climb hills, ride my e-bike or gravel bike and just visit some of those places I've never been to. I've been climbing hills and mountains all over the world for 50 years and I'm a former editor of Climber Magazine and The Great Outdoors Magazine.

    Can I just clarify? It is £15 per night to stay at the Findhorn stopover, not £50. Apologies if that was not clear. I've now cut out that section of audio as obviously it wasn't clear enough. I also hear what's being said on the subject of product placement. Some folk like these product reviews, others don't, so I will put up a poll to get viewers thoughts.

      I spend a lot of time travelling in my VW in France where there is an excellent network of ‘aires’ and camping car sites similar to the one in Findhorn. If only there were more in the UK.
      As for the Conquerco coffee maker - I’m very interested to see how one of these type of machines functions as I have read quite a lot about them. As you say they ‘aren’t for everyone’, and I do struggle with the amount of wastage involve with the capsules. But an independent review such as yours is useful to enable folks to make a decision. For me, I will stick with my hand grinder for the coffee beans and an AeroPress (inverted method) … but appreciate that others will want the Nespresso hit!

    An interesting review of the coffee maker as well. I’ve seen these kind of things for sale and have often wondered about their merits. A thermos looks like it would be the same size as the coffee maker. The aire looks lovely and the pre-book system makes sure you're coming to a space. • @CameronMcNeishOutdoors
      @CameronMcNeishOutdoors  Год назад +1

      Very happy with it Bill. It’s not so great when making coffee from cold water. Uses a lot of the battery power. But if you use boiling water from the kettle it’s very quick and efficient. However, it only offers a small expression, which is fine for me as I just top up with hot water. The machine now lives in our camper and I use it all the time. It’s pricey, and so are pods, but for me the quality of the coffee is the important thing. In short I love it.

    Love Findhorn been there twice, but allow me to point something out. It’s accessed via an ANPR barrier and your arrival time is 1pm. If you turn up one minute before it won’t let you in. You will then be blocking the exit entry and may have got yourself into an awkward situation. The walks along the beech are stunning, but please don’t do what I did and get to close to the seals. Like an idiot I thought I was far enough away trying to take a photo, but I spooked them and they all headed out to sea leaving me feeling like a total idiot. Enjoy Findhorn, it’s a special place, we are heading there in April for our third visit.

      Fair enough, no-one’s forcing you. They actually changed the parking to a formal arrangement because motorhomes were abusing it. Setting up camp with awnings and windbreaks so that beach users couldn’t park. Now people can park outside the site and campervanners have an excellent facility. I would suggest £15 is at the upper end for an Aire but as I said, if you don’t like the price don’t use it.
