    I have a lot of rifles from inexpensive to expensive. The Tikka and Sako (Tikka made by Sako) are my favorite. The bolt action to fit and finish is absolutely beautiful. With a good scope this gun is amazing.

    Excellent review. Also, one has to face the philosophy of use. As a hunting rifle, it is probably light with that stock, which is okay. That way, the only appreciable weight is the barrel, action, scope, and ammo. Change to a rail like MDT and others and you gain weight. Change to a composite wood like Boyd's, it gains weight. That scope probably weighs at least a pound or more. My Vortex Venom weighs 24 oz and it and the MDT LSS Gen 2 chassis, folding adapter, and the SCS stock, that all weighs about 12 lbs and 10 ounces when it started out as a Mossberg Patriot with a Crossfire II scope that weighed 15 ounces.
    But the added weight is needed if you are competing long range. I have heard that in F-Class, the weight limit in the closed division is 18 pounds. That is more weight than a lot of hunters, especially backwoods elk hunters who have to hike miles into the interior of the Rockies want to carry. They will put up with heavier recoil on one shot just to have a light rifle. So, yeah, you could go either way with this. Upgraded parts to a bench gun winning you some money. Or a light rifle that gets you a moose in Montana.

    I know this is an older video. With that said, put a suppressor on this otherwise box stock rifle and in my opinion you have a near perfect sport utility rifle. The 175 grain IMI razor core M118LR clone will be point on and stable out to 1000 yards from that 20 inch barrel. This should cover most peoples recreation target shooting needs. For hunters, if the 308W is an appropriate cartridge, the Federal 175 grain terminal assent will fill your freezer. If you are open to handloading, the sky is the limit. The only reason I don't have one is they are hard to find in my area.

    Dude crazy thing about those Hornady 150 interlocks I was tagging Steel at 900 with some. I got consistent .5 and a few .3 '' with those in my old Mossberg and new HMr . They were one of my most consistent bullet. Cfe223 50 grs gets them almost 3k fps. But I could tell the difference when it hit compared to my 155 gr With 47gr of varget. It was going like 130 fps slower but that eld hit waayy harder. Thank for all the reviews

    Hey man, I commented on your Tikka .223 video, I'm wondering if you have the same 20 MOA rail and medium MDT rings on your .308? I'm trying to order all the parts in time for a shoot in a couple of weeks. I've decided on a Vortex Venom and wondering how much the 20 MOA rail raises the eye ocular lens, if it makes it much more difficult to get a comfortable cheek weld? Also if when attaching the sunshade, does it fit nicely or touch the barrel? Thanks in advance. Love your videos.

    Thanks for this video I got a t3x lite in 6.5 prc just stuck between what scope to put on it… mainly for deer hunting and long range shooting in the west. Do you think a mark5 is overkill for it? In 3-18 or should I go with the vx6 scope? 😩

    • @EpikArms
      @EpikArms  2 года назад

      It would really come down to the expected gunting range. From what I hear out west outer shots can be at 300m. A 3-18x50 ffp would be a good compromise for both but keep in mind for close range that reticle is going to be invisible. If you have a flexible budget, I would go with one optic designated for hunting and one for target. Eith quality scope mounts you will see 1 moa to no point of impact shift with removal and instalation of the optic. But if you dont want 2 optics then yes 3-18 would be what I would do.

  • @theAV8R
    @theAV8R Год назад

    hey guy - what height over bore is your centre of your optic? I'm hearing more and more that I should allow myself to stray from 'as low as possible' to allow for a better cheek weld (Mine's about teeth-level). What height rings rings are you using on the .308 varmint atop that pic rail?
    I'm waiting on my Tikka Stainless Varmint in 6.5 CM, sans Picatinny rail, and am trying to figure out the measurement between bore and top of action, I know that my 52mm objective will be fine with the Talley Lows, but am wondering whether ergonomics would dictate I go a nudge higher.
    Next up is saving up for an MDT Huntr26 chassis =).

    • @EpikArms
      @EpikArms  3 года назад +2

      Yeah for hunting its perfect the bullet drop wont make an incredible difference with a 20" barrel at usual hunting distances (20m to 200m) also if you are going to have it as a hunting specific rifle, i woudnt go with the extra weight of the varmint unless you plan on using it for target on occasion.

      It has been hit ans miss. The factory break made this rifle inconsistent. At 100y it was printing 1.5" and yes even with. 1.5moa gun it will ring the gong. But without the break it was consistently capable of 0.75- 0.5 moa

    • @EpikArms
      @EpikArms  3 года назад

      A set trigger is exrremely light (something like 3oz to 8 oz) to set a set trigger you either have a second trigger you pull to set it. Or the other style that i have seen the set trigge acts like a regular trigger exept when you push the trigger forward (it will do a small click and now it is set to the 4oz weight. A single stage trigger is a more common triggerbon huntting and match rifles. Single stage meaning once cocked there will be no take up until the trigger breaks. A 2 stage trigger will have some take up, then it will stop and once you give a bit more pressure it will then break. From my research tikkas dont have a 2 stage trigger. thanks for watching

      to be honest i find the features a bit lacking for the super varmint, compared to the regular varmint it appears to only have an adjustable combheing and thats about it for differences, and the A1 is basically a t3x CTR in a chassis, where I live it would be more cost effective to buy a TikkaT3x Varmint (plain version) and throw it in your chassi of choice, on the budget side a Oryx Chassis (500$) and they go upwards from there and you would get more of what you specifically want

    A.O.R. Would you happen to know for sure, or any of your other subscribers know, if Tikka builds their T3 or T3X with 24" barrels in the short action calibers they chamber? I'm having a hard time finding much information on their individual rifle specifications. Thank you everyone for any and all knowledge you can share with all of us here. 👍

      Hi Steve from my knowlege the longest ive seen is their 22" barrels. Possibly check with your local distributor. Or on the tikka.fi website

      The .308 is a very versatile round. My Browning X will shoot the Sierra 110 grn Varminters into one ragged hole. I have a .204 Ruger but it's a little on the light side for dispatching some of our BIG prairie yodel dogs.

    Hi! I'd like to modify my standard Tikka-T3x lite polymer stock by adding a cheek piece. I came up with the idea to transfer the cheek piece from a used varmint stock to mine.
    Is the cheek piece on a varmint stock removable or fixed permanently?
    Best regards,
