    The MINI Countryman concept - combining the cheeky personality of the MINI hatchback with a dose of SUV style and practicality - has been around for a while. The latest edition has grown up, losing a little charm but gaining lots of usability. It makes a fun, practical family car and the Cooper S model is quite sporty. It should be a painless car to own, although its reliability has yet to be proven.

      Very fuel efficient as well, bought an older one used for 20k. And averaging 28 mpg city and up to 40 mpg highway.
      Just be warned BMW will screw you over with transmission; change your transmission fluid around 130'000 km or 80'000 miles roughly.
      BMW will tell you not to; don't believe that, prior generations have issues with transmissions after 110'000 km which can get extremely pricey! From my research people who have had it changed have had their minis be dead reliable for most part.
      People who havent and i know few in person, paid up to 10'000$ for transmission issues and other problems that followed cause of it.
      Just saying.....

    I dont know how good a big mini is, but let me tell you something, rear seat adjustments awesome! Interiors awesome! Boot space awesome! I would love to buy this car only if this wasnt a mini or atleast a different model from mini, and lady you do a tremendously good job at reviewing because not all showcase the rear seat features and you did it all so glad some people are so good at their job it makes so many peoples job easy. Well done lady!

    I really like how they made the Mini into a real world small SUV that is comfortable for 4 adults but the trunk is still on the small side which is fine to discourage always carrying too much junk in the back like most people do when they have a lot of space. I just wish they kept the same front lights though because these ovoid ones don't evoke the Mini brand like the round ones on the others do.

    I have a gen 1 Countryman, and I just love it. It's my 4th MINI, and I have it 5 years. I've never owned one car so long.
    But, the latest gen leaves me a little cold. I did warm to it when I saw it in the metal. But I really believe the pricing is way too much. I'm thinking of changing cars now, and will be looking elsewhere. Leaving MINI after 13 years.

    Great review from lovely Ginny. Have driven the new BMW Mini Countryman D for a while now so would add the following; The new Front wheel drive BMW 2 litre diesel with 8 speed automatic is simply a fantastic pairing. Just forget manual gearboxes and I am a manual fan. This car with this engine/ box combination will change the way you think about autos. It changes at less than 1500rpm and always seems to sit below 1500rpm..just awesome, it really drives like it has one continuous gear, that means good economy, less work for the engine and plenty of revs available if you ever did need them. It is always in the correct gear, changes are seamless up and down, it is quick, tons of torque and 45 to 55mpg all day long. A solid very well balanced car even in snow and ice. It is a nice car to drive with good windscreen views, heated windscreen option/ quick demist in seconds, car also feels wide, planted and very stable. Has perfect weighted steering and LED headlights are well worth having, sharp consistant beam and bright= safer. My only negatives are 1. Does not have a free Ginny :), 2. Wheels with Run flat tyres (reinforced/stiff sidewall tyres) give far too hard a ride on average to poor roads coupled with already firm suspension, seriously not good at all, ride comfort is too hard so BMW need to improve this issue!! But I think you can get higher spec suspension option, seriously consider this if buying! or definately fit standard tyres at later date 3. Lack of spare wheel.. I always prefer a spare as speeds limited with flat run flats. 4. Taller people may still struggle to get in and out as still a fairly low car, once in, ok. 5. interior mood lighting and media centre on centre dashboard is too distracting at night and too bright with semi cluttered display, best turned off. 6. Start / Stop should have a delay option built in so it does not stop engine when changing into reverse and restarting engine again immediately after, you have to disable this every journey. Still a great car, definately get a 2 litre diesel auto, LED lighting but certainly consider improved suspension. Standard Bridgestone tyres give rather heavy resistance in heavy rain.. the OEM tyres seems to be overall weakness on Mini For both reasons. Mini should have opted for run flats as an option only and fitted a spacesaver wheel

    I giggled when the 3 suitcases tested were able to fit, however, the top case had its wheels sticking out over the weather strip.........I'm guessing that shot was just for the cool factor, and the cases were adjusted accordingly 😉

    The jcw is way too large an engine for a mini. The sweet spot on this ride is the countryman S front wheel drive (if you don’t live in snow). The all wheel drive is a rough feel if you don’t need it and saves you on the pocket book. Very smooth ride and you’ll save lots of cash. I was a Mercedes Bmw owner for years and this ride stole me. Smoothest drive I’ve ever had. Idk for a family if it’s the best option, but as a single guy with rotating gfs and friends to go to ball games with this car is the best option of all practical everyday SUV use. You can get the occasional scratch and not freak out, or if something happens the price isn’t too steep to fix.

  • @martinjames6942
    @martinjames6942 6 лет назад

    Update having driven for a few months now. The latest BMW 2 litre diesel is a great engine, plenty of torque and at urban mixed driving gives just over 48mpg. The 8 speed automatic is a fantastic smooth gearbox, changes are silky smooth. Rear visibility poor but ok. Drives and turns well, hardly any body roll, good grip although standard tyres are awful on snow, poor in wet and act like perfect gravel scoops on poor roads, so under car gets bombarded with small chippings. Heated windscreen is great, Led headlights and auto lights are really good. BMW combined front and rear camera system is very good. Except for the terrible choice in Bridgestone tyres here are my negatives.. awful tyres, run flats make for harder ride and no spare wheel or space saver.. always prefer to have a spare.. (seriously not good BMW, run flats are not what everyone wants!). Although no body roll, suspension is too firm, ride is too hard and I describe it as fatiguing especially at rear. The hard ride is partly down to run flat tyres but more due to both insufficiant spring travel and poor shock travel or poor standard of shocks.. this is a let down as this standard of car should have better springs and shocks, especially on the rear where fatiguing it is more noticable when driving.. a car like this hits a raised manhole and you really feel it land, with better suspension it would be less tiring.. Also if over 6 foot you may find harder to getting in and out of.

      Peace and Justice A MINI shouldn't be judged on it's size, it should be judged on its character and driving fun. And do you really think that MINI can keep making the 3 door hatch for the rest of its lifetime? In an age of SUV's (or an SAV in this case) MINI have to keep up with the times, how else will they make money?

      Philip Scott 100%. These purists need to remind themselves that these new cars are just alternatives. The brand is not forcing the new CM on everyone. If you want the small 3 door, get the 3 door. If you want more room, get the CM. MINI as a brand has had some rough sales lately and I think this is a smart choice to expand the horizons a bit.

    • @peaceandjustice3575
      @peaceandjustice3575 7 лет назад +2

      Philip Scott I agree with you the company needs to expand its horizons to be better suited for the market. What I'm saying is that because of this, the company no longer lives up to its name. Simple as that I'm not being dumb.

    • @NBASFAN

      Peace and Justice I would completely disagree. The car just gotten better and more high tech over the years. In my opinion, the Mini is still Mini. The size still small and still very easy to park around town, best of all good handling around the city.

    The idea of a mini SUV just shows how the car industry is going in the completely wrong direction. What we need are small, efficient cars to do what we actually need. Not huge cars we don't need and will never use the full capability of. And if you're going to make huge cars, then make them electric or plug-in hybrids to mitigate the damage. But they're still using diesels which are beyond stupid.

    Looks like it's had one too many botox injections.
    And sounds like BMW is avin a larf with a starting price north of £22k and an £8 options list for the car in this video that could otherwise have bought a brand new mid-range Dacia Sandero.

    This car is utterly pointless. What the is the point. If its a city car, itz too big. If its made for travel, and a family its too small...
