A first follow-up to the story of buying a Lobster from the grocery store seafood section and rehabbing it and keeping it as a pet. Leon has touched the hearts of many who see what an interesting creature he is. - Хобби
I love how Leon has an opinion on where the empty shells need to be.
Leon never needs to be reminded to put away the dishes or to clean up after himself! 🙉💕
Sure … but does he prefer garlic and herbs of white wine sauce?

I mean, look at him, he cleans himself, he cleans his tank, he does the dishes, he keeps everything in it's place, such a good boy.
Had you not taken him, healed him he would've ended in a Pot as someones meal. I think it's interesting that all living creatures can heal if a person really gives time and care. I think it's educational and really kind. Thx
When did you say something that you had to say I mean
Except he’s prob really lonely that tank is basically prison and he can’t interact or mate
@@HigherKaiju well he is better than at the grocery shop for sure.
And who knows, maybe having his more basic needs dealt with without effort is good enough and peaceful for him, maybe not.
We can't know how Leon processes this whole thing, we don't know if lobsters have an idea of a "fulfilling life", but he surely improved in health and overall mood since he was bought.

Why can't he live in the sea?
@@ellap6828 been in captivity for probably a long time, plus a weakened lobster straight out of the store would be prey almost instantly
This lobster won the lottery big time 😅
@@ellap6828 to add on to the other comment, most animals that have been in captivity for a while aren’t released into the wild for the same reason. it’s just not safe for them and it would be cruel to release them at that point since you’re basically signing their death warrant. that’s also the case for animals born into captivity and socialised around humans.

I’m from Newfoundland, Canada and growing up my dad would always let me keep pet lobsters too, lol. He bought and sold lobster for a living and had a GIANT aquarium to house them in. I had my own section for the lucky ones I was allowed to save! Leon is definitely 100% a male. We had to know the sex by sight because the females have that delicious orange roe or “cheese” inside people go nuts for. The minute you opened the grocery store box and I saw that narrow tail I said you poor little guy!!! The females have much wider tails to hold all the eggs when they spawn. You never need to flip him over! :) That time when he planted the grass in front of his cave I think he was trying to woo in a female. They are incredible creatures and I enjoyed it as much as you are. I am so in love with Leon!!!! You are letting me relive my childhood and you are so kind to him! Thank you!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Leon is definitely a male Lobster, Im a lobster fisherman from Prince Edward Island. The females look quite different when they reach the size of Leon, very wide tale, and body. with smaller claws and basically 2 pincer claws instead of a large crusher and smaller pincer. they also are usually lighter in colour, with light green and yellow hues.
To really tell, under the tale at the very base are 2 small fins, on a male they are larger and stiff, on a female they are very small and wispy.
You just keep your peepers off our Leon lol

I'm an expert at something too, and I can tell with confidence, that this is indeed a lobster. Just in case anyone needed a confirmation.

Omg he is amazing
A distinguished gentleman
It's incredible how popular this guy has become over the simple act of rescuing and caring for a lobster. A tale both quite relatively mundane yet wildly lovely.
You're cutting Leon short though, it's his personality that makes the show
It seems a lot of people had the same desire to take a supermarket lobster home as a kid.
Not sure how I went from searching for the perfect Asmr video to put me asleep, to becoming emotionally invested in a lobster from the grocery store… but here we are.
Brady’s voiceovers are so chill though, so kinda fits.
I love how you’ve saved this lobster. Look how the colour of his shell has changed! Please, please, with the bigger tank give him an environment! Live plants, a coral box he can hide in, and LIVE fish, clams, etc. Don’t feed him dead stuff. Continue to play with him, maybe some balls or something.
Ooh. Very good suggestions!
When you brought him home, he was depressed, half-dead and likely resigned to his fate that he would soon be gone from this world. But you did something not many of these creatures would ever expect and nurtured him back to health giving him a new lease on life. Leon is very lucky indeed you gave him a new home and a second chance! I am happy that it seems you've decided to keep Leon long term. Thank you for sharing this with all of us!
Well, as we all know, we are happier with a good pal or endearing mate. Have you considered that to be a next Humane step for "Leon"'s emotional life? I myself am very ill, but adopted a 16 LB 1 year old sweet cat, & immediately knew he'd need a friend of his own species since I can't "walk" or play with him. So I put the word out of a ten week old kitten -- Molly loves Juble & Juble seems to really care about Molly!! They'll grow up together & as I hit the drain, they'll never be separated! Maybe a baby lobster for Leon??
Very well said ♥️♥️

And it's clear to see what we put these marine life through just for our satisfaction
Rewatching the Leon series and something that stood out to me was when you mentioned that releasing Leon wasn't practical. You're absolutely right, I just wanted to expand on the why a little more :). In South Carolina, you're actually a little south of the American Lobster's natural range. American Lobsters like cold, rocky water, just like what you'd find in New England down through around Virginia. Being dropped in the sandier sea of the Southeast would be pretty jarring for a species from further away. I grew up in Maine and spent a lot of time out on lobster boats as a kid, so lobsters have a special place in my heart :)
While this is heartwarming, it saddens me to think what happened to all the other lobsters Leon shared the tank with, and all the other lobsters and other animals worldwide who weren't as fortunate as Leon. After all, Leon was picked at random, and could've just as well not been picked to be saved.
Right exactly
I, for one, am never eating lobster again. And going by many other commenters, they're doing the same.
Not animals…literally giant bugs. Pretty sure you wouldn’t get attached to a giant cockroach.
@@scottpayne7575 In one short comment, you demonstrated an incredible illiteracy in both English and biology. That's impressive.
I can't believe I have to say this, but:
1. Bugs are animals.
2. In the phrase "other lobsters and other animals", the "other animals" does NOT refer to lobsters; it refers to OTHER ANIMALS.
@@scottpayne7575 something tells me I’d be more attached to a worm or a dung beetle than you
Leon is almost certainly male, considering the narrowness of the tail. The swimmerets (pleopods) in general are not a good indicator of gender. Only the front two are appreciably different between males and females.
I think he'd also be a lot happier with a cave or other shelter. He's gotta feel pretty insecure out in the open all the time. This will be especially important when it is molting time.
Finally, Leon will also probably be happier if you can chill the water a bit, since 65 deg F is quite close to the stress threshold temperature (68-70 deg F) where his systems will start shutting down. I think he'll also live longer at a cooler temperature. BTW, if you turn him loose in the Carolinas, he will almost certainly die when the ocean water heats up in the summer.
Great info here! Thanks Doc!
I hope he can read this

Being a biologist, I agree that it would be a terrible idea to release him. He seems to be thriving and you're about to get him a bigger tank so I'd say keep him and keep observing him and hopefully we will get to see him shed soon 😇
Ah, shed! Never knew and also, much more intelligent and even charming.
Definitely a good way to study the behavior of a lobster, especially in captivity. I wonder how big this lobster will get. Hopefully not out-live their owner. 😅 Though I don't know for sure, since I'm not a marine biologist.

I think I remember reading something about the genealogy of lobsters making them in theory immortal. I look forward to following Leon’s progress. I love that he was rescued from the grocery store. He’s the luckiest lobster ever!
I watched your first video last night and this update just now. I almost cry watching these, I am so happy that you saved Leon. In my mind, I named him “Lucky.” I tried to do this years ago, bought two lobsters from the grocery store and was going to save them and bring them to the ocean the following day. I put them in the bathtub overnight. I was too young and ignorant back then to realize that they would die without saltwater. Thank you for saving this lobster, you are an absolute hero to me.
Lobsters can live up to 100 years old.
This guy might have just gotten himself into a lifetime commitment.
Wow!!! Yes, I was just wondering how long they live😲…interesting. Thanks for sharing and LOL a lifetime commitment for sure 😂
correcting... this guy just gotten himself a friend for the rest of his life
He could just eat it
I thought lobsters could technically live forever? in terms of being unable to die from old age but will usually eventually pass due to other reasons
@@WALSH_GAMING But he didn't! and I hope he won't eat lobster from now on.
Leon looked like he was ready to die when he got him you can see the life came back into him. This is great!
Yess this lil fella is a game changer 😇
Is it bad that all I can think about is how much better he probably tastes now
@@mauirandall8176 nah just weird
11pm here, and I’m watching this incredible story. Glad to see Leon is doing well. Keep us posted with more videos.
These videos are fascinating! And I love how well Leon is taken care of! I'm learning a lot about lobsters, thanks to this site!
My kids are really attached to this lobster. They ask me every once in a while about how the lobster is doing.
Oh my goodness! That's adorable! I wonder if they'd ever want one, haha!
U should get them one for their birthday or something 😀
Growing up my family and I raised a bright blue lobster named Blue Lady and it was so fun, they’re beautiful creatures
Get them a little crayfish
Like the person above me said, you should get them a little crayfish
You're like... The Bob Ross of Lobsters.
Calming, interesting, good person.

I’ve been watching the new videos of Leon and after looking back from 2 years ago it’s so fun to see how he’s grown. Leon is very entertaining and calming to watch.
He is definitely entertaining. Thanks for watching.
He is so beautiful, thank you for sharing his little life with us. And thank you for sparing him.
maybe it's just me but I feel like he's now more colorful too, especially his antennas! A sign of a great recovery
Yeah, will his shell change colors, I feel like that may be a result of captivity, or it could seem like a natural ocean water thing, as his shell isn't too bright and has a bit of growth on it. Are barnicles a negative thing? Idk

@@Helpadoggoreachsubs youre not funny
Oh no he is. That was immediately noticeable in the first video he made on Leon. With aquatic animals like this, them losing a lot of color is usually a sign of depression, thus why when "rescued" or getting taken in by a caring person, they often will over time brighten up and gain far more prolific colors than they had when first adopted/taken in/rescued, alongside their much happier, more energized behavior. You quite literally save them from their depressions. Of course, also proving again, they do in fact feel and understand complex emotion.
@@Helpadoggoreachsubs DOUCHE
Of note, as he's a Maine Lobster (the kind sold live by grocery stores), Leon's not actually from the ocean environment that you're from. He's from the northern parts of the North Atlantic (Maine, Massachusetts, Conneticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Quebec, and Newfoundland) rather than the more equatorial regions of the southern North Atlantic and the Gulf Coast (Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Carribean, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, and Mississippi). That means that releasing him in the Carolina Coasts would be like setting someone from Europe down in the Phillipines.
I was gonna say, I didn't think they had these kind of lobsters that far south. I've seen some in shallow rocky areas in Maine, if he lived there he could actually release him and give him a good chance
And fun fact, Philippines temperature can go up to 50° C so rip Europeans, even UK people
He should check with a biologist
@@BlazeYT_ As a professional Ireland, I can confirm that we (and Brits) generally can't survive much hotter than Spain or maybe Florida. Humidity in the Nila would kill me :D
@@Noobsaibot21 Florida is crazy humid too you probably wouldn't survive that either lol
I love that you did this!! Whenever I see those lobsters in the tank at the stores I feel so bad for them. Seeing them up close and personal, and all the wonderful things you shared is very inspiring, thank you🙏🏻💕🌻
So glad Leon was saved from the grocery store tank!!! What a eye opener to the before and after rescue of Leon. A whole new creature..... Thank you, kind sir for your constant care of Leon, he looks so happy in his new environment you take such good care of Leon. I will be checking in to see his progress ♥️ watching your videos !

I m at a low point in life, but these videos about Leon cheered me up a little, what a happy little guy he is 😊
Apart from the awesomeness of the whole projects itself The camera work and editing is soooo excellent!!
I have noticed that Leon' s armour has changed, it's brighter and the marking and colours are more vivid...you are looking after Leon very well. Leon is clearly thriving :-)
Yes! ;)
exactly what i was thinking. he looks a lot healthier
I used to see it happen all the time back when I was a kid. I'd catch a yabby (freshwater crayfish) from the local creek and put it in the fish tank. After a few weeks of clean water and good food, the animal's shell would go from murky brown to a beautiful turquoise blue!
The fact that he let's the grabber go when "playing" leads me to believe he understands you're not attacking him seriously.
I agree. Lobsters are apparently very smart. I read some random articles a while back that they are right up there with octopus
The fact of it is he has the brain size of the tip of a ball point pen. It the same size as a grasshopper. I don't think he is thinking a thing. Not one thing. He's instincts tell him to eat and not get eaten. He is grabbing at those togs because he might get eaten by them.
@@patstokes7040 I love the thought of them not having any thoughts themselves
@@patstokes7040 but like most animals they retain the instincts of what is safe. Compare how he reached to the net vs the grabbers. He is much more calm and relaxed with the grabber, vs the fear and wild energy he expressed when the net was introduced.
