Bloody fantastic to see the master and apprentice having a chat here. As a novice hunter that lives for walking them up and the hills I can't get enough.
As I sit at home waiting for the cooler months to get amongst it and start living again 👍

Grouse chat. There was an article in the ADA magazine many years ago where they outlined the “stages of a deer/hunter”.One of the last stages was when a hunter picked up his/her camera/video to take up the bush so that they could take photos/video of the deer and watch the deer walk on.Nice chat gentlemen.

Love your concept of deer hunter's taking up the camera as they age! Gee l was filming back in the 1980s. So that makes me petrified like a stone by now 😉🤣

G’day Reg,unfortunately it isn’t my concept. Many moons ago the article outlined the stages of a hunter progressing from 1)being a novice and searching for deer 2)learning and bumping deer3)harvesting deer sporadically4)focusing on taking a representative stag5)then only stalking and harvesting bigger and bigger trophies6)taking photos/videos of all deer and occasionally taking a meat animal for the table.Back then in the “olden days” I found the concept to be foreign to me.Now after a lot of Winters have come and gone,I get it! With being an ethical deer hunter the respect for the deer and the passion for the hunt drives my desire to learn more about my quarry.PS-Bring on the cooler weather.Cheers,Rob.

Hi Rob, Yeah, it's over time, we all learn more about the behavioural structures of the Sambar deer. It takes time and patience. The Sambar achilles' heel is that they are creatures of habit. At this point, the Sambar deer heavily browsing on bushes because the native grasses are seeding, and it plays havoc with their big ears. They may walk through the grass but make a bee line to the bushes.

Good stuff guys. Interesting chat. Not sure how many episodes you got coming but look forward to the next one. Memories comment a great point, you don’t have to come home with anymore than memories of a good adventure and failures and it’s a great experience.

Great analogy, Matt! The memories keep you younger mentality. The body is OK at this point in time, but you never know what's around the corner?
